What’s your favorite thing to wear for Fall?

Hi everyone,
I am enjoying my sisters and Tom being here, but the fun is still continuing for a few days, so no sewing from me at the moment. Cindy brought Deb and me a big bag of clothes she was weeding out… new and slightly worn…all really nice!!

I received cardigans, blouses, tops and a pair of Clark’s sandals! I am thrilled!!

So what’s your favorite thing to wear for Fall? Do you have any favorite brands?

Who knows what fun we’ll have today…. :o)
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. My standard fall “uniform” (which also carries thru winter and much of spring, since our seasons aren’t truly very distinct most of the time in the Seattle area) is a knit top (I start with 3/4 sleeves, and, as the weather gets cooler switch to long sleeves, and finally turntlenecks), and add a camisole or sleeveless undershirt underneath for extra warmth; I usually wear knit slacks from Land’s End, either the Sport Knit Pants or Sport Knit Cords. They’ve changed the Sport Knit Pants lately, though–made the legs wider and the waist elastic, too, which I don’t like–so the Sport Knit Cords are my favorites. Knit tops are usually Land’s End or Appleseeds–or ones I’ve made myself!

I almost always have a sweater on, too, and if it’s really cold, silk long underwear!

Since I don’t wear (or even much care for) typical “fall” colors (browns, golds, oranges), my color palette stays about the same as for summer, adding in deeper and/or brighter colors, such as red, magenta, bright pink, navy, and purple.

For church, I wear dresses (with long sleeves, of course), or skirts and blouses (long-sleeved), and, of course, a sweater!

I think when you retire and spend most of your days at home or close to it, your wardrobe changes dramatically! At least mine did! Before, when I was working, I was shopping at Macy’s, Dillard’s, and various other smaller stores buying dresses, skirts and such, I now am finding my “go to” outfits are mostly jeans, and denim capris, paired with knits, sweaters and vests. I do not like the unstructured look and feel of sweats. Mostly jeans though, if you live in the Midwest! I love vibrant fall colors too, deep reds, greens, blues and purples. I actually find a lot of those kind of casual clothes at Bass Pro, and very good prices too!

My “clothes fun” nowadays though, is mostly about my dolls. Unlike me, they never get out of shape, and have the most interesting lives, way more than I do!

How fun that you and sisters can share the same sizes. Lots to choose from as well. Around here, as long as I can grab some jeans and a t-shirt, I’m good to go. That’s for fall. In summer, a pair of shorts and again a t-shirt. In late fall, the long sleeved tee is covered with a Columbia fleece. If, it gets colder, all topped with a vintage Eddie Bauer jacket. Works for me. I’m getting ready to dump most everything in the closet which includes shirts, sweaters, etc. that I will never wear again. I’m into comfort. 🙂
Did anyone nab a Halloween Ruby Red Fashion Friends doll over the weekend? They are very cute. 🙂

  4. Wow, looks like you got a nice haul! And the colors are all so pretty for fall! Here in Arizona it might be November before I wear anything with long sleeves, and I got rid of most of my sweaters years ago, ha ha.

Dear Terri, I smiled when I read your comment about sweaters. I have a ton of sweaters. I am always cold. I usually have a sweater with me in the Summer as stores and restaurants are highly air conditioned.

You live in a beautiful state. I love the scenery in Arizona and New Mexico.

Dear Jeanne, I am so happy that the sisters are there! I can’t wait to hear about your adventures.

And wow, you got a bunch of new things to wear. How lovely.

I don’t have any “go to” Fall outfits. I guess I can add non-fashion person to my list of non-s (laugh). It’s a good thing I know about dolls and tea or I would have nothing with which to recommend myself (smile).

If you are talking about the actual season of Fall beginning at the end of September, my preferred outfit would probably be capris, t-shirts and casual sandals. For church it’s usually dressy capris, pretty light-weight tops and dressy sandals or short-sleeved or sleeveless dresses or blouses and skirts. But if we’re talking about dressing for cooler temps that usually occur around here just as winter is about to begin, well then I prefer fleece tops and slacks and walking shoes with socks. When cooler temps occur here it is also usually damp so even heavier cotton or corduroy slacks are not warm enough sometimes so I wear fleece. I’m really thinking about buying some flannel lined jeans or slacks like I used to wear when I was a kid in the northeast. As for colors, well I do look best in the warm colors so that works for me since I love the colors of the autumn leaves. But I also love the deeper pinks. So I do enjoy dressing for fall and winter since I get to wear the colors I love.

I’m supposed to get a new family member today. Bella’s siblie Bailey. Her arrival has been postponed twice so hopefully she will show up today as promised. No, Joy, I did not even go for a Halloween RRFF doll but I would have loved to. They are adorable but I have recently received two dolls and two more are on the way so I decided to put the breaks on for a while.

Well I’m off to reorganize my sewing room in order to set up my new serger. I’m going to send my previous serger to Goodwill. I did not pay that much for it and the machine could be useful to someone else. I have all the parts and instructions so I will be packing that up. I will also be taking down my Singer embroidery machine. I don’t use it but will keep it in case one of my grandchildren would like to join me in sewing someday. Since my new serger is the size of a small sewing machine, it will not fit next to my Singer where I have the current one. The “bundle” that came with my new serger is amazing. Unfortunately I have no idea when it will show up or if all the parts will come at the same time. Oh well, I really don’t mind visiting the quilt shop on a regular basis and for a year I get a 10% discount.

  7. Maybe I’ve told this before but…when I was working there was a little gal from California with a kind of sketchy background but sweet. I tried to get her acquainted with Nebraska and local traditions and places.
One day we were talking clothes…she said ” in Nebraska you have Spring clothes…then summer clothes, Fall clothes and the awful winter clothes…In California you just have CLOTHES!!” It made me laugh. I like the changes here…moving summer to winter items in the closet is a pain though 🙂 I get many of my things at Estate Sales. My favorite place was Christopher Banks…a sad day when they closed. I rarely buy retail but I have to admit to buying a Fall/Winter vest off their website yesterday. Spent way more than usual ..so if it isn’t just perfect it may go back
    have fun with your Sisters!
