Guess what I just added to my Sewing Room?

I hadn’t planned on it… in fact, I didn’t even see it… but my hubby pointed it out to me and that was all she wrote! :o) We were at a thrift store the other day in a town about 25 miles away. I was looking at the clothes while my hubby was wandering around looking at the furniture. I looked up once and saw him looking at this massive chest and immediately I went over where he was. A lady who worked there saw us looking at it and told us a man had wanted it but it was too heavy for him to move by himself and so he had to pass on it… They put it back out on the floor and now it was my chance at it. It was solid wood and heavy as a tank. They even left it on the furniture rollers so they wouldn’t have to lift it again when someone new bought it.

I looked at the tag of when it came in and it was on my birthday, August 29th! So I’m just believing the Lord was holding this beauty for me! :o) It has 21 drawers and I decided it would be great in my sewing room… My hubby asked “where?” and I said, “I’ll find a place!”

It’s really big… taller than me by a few inches… 65″ tall and 52″ wide! Every part of it is solid wood…inch thick on the main parts and the corners are all dove tailed. See that missing knob on the third drawer on the left? It was taped inside that drawer in a baggie!

We were in the RAV so we had to come home and get the truck to bring it home. All the way home, I was praying, “Oh Lord, please let it fit… somewhere!” I had decided I would move out the lower bookshelf that is right behind my back when I’m sewing, move my taller bookshelf with my dolls on it to that spot and put the new chest in the place where my dolls are right now…

So I moved my dolls here…

…and I moved the new chest where my dolls were… here…

It actually looks kind of pretty there, but it was too large and stuck out too much! I’d have to sleep on it and decide the next day…

When I got up, I saw my dolls with the sunlight shining on them and realized that wasn’t a good spot for them, as the sun will make some vinyl and especially resin skin turn darker… I didn’t want that, so I had to break the news to my hubby that I’d be moving things again… poor guy! (I actually did most of the moving myself.) I put towels down on the floor and scooted back and forth until they were under each piece. I got the 2 tall bookcases out of the room all by myself! I moved my shorter bookshelf all by myself and even the taller oak bookshelf that my dolls are on all by myself. But I’ve gotten a workout last night and today! :o)

I decided to move the new chest over to the back side of my sewing room (where it won’t be seen by anyone but me) boo hoo, but it will be a better fit. But first I had to move out the 2 particle board bookcases back there against the wall… It’s kind of hard to see, because I had SO MUCH STUFF in the front that I couldn’t get back far enough…

It has been a DISASTER in my sewing room since yesterday, but it’s coming along… although you probably won’t believe me when you see my pictures…

There are piles and stacks of like items everywhere. My hubby has decided to take the 2 tall bookcases to the church and see if they could use them for anything… if not, he’ll take them to Goodwill.

I have emptied a few drawers in my long 13 drawer dresser and put the contents in one of the drawers in the new chest where things fit better.

Props on the floor…

…and MORE piles…

So far, I’m loving having a designated drawer for all my “littles” and hope I have enough drawers for all my “groupings!”

My dolls are standing around watching every move I make…

I’ve already made some progress since my last picture was taken, so just hang on a bit and you’ll see the end result soon!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Wow, that is one gorgeous piece of furniture! You are so fortunate to have been able to get it–and that you were able to rearrange and move things around so you could fit it into your sewing room. Can’t wait to see the “after” pictures!

For those of you who follow me on FB, i finally got some pictures of Ten Ping Siblie and Gigi Siblie posted there; I will try to remember to send them to you in the next day or two. I really need to get to bed now, though!!

We have seen you do moves like this before, so we have faith. By the weekend, the room will shine and you’ll have designed a new outfit, maybe a twenties one. Or maybe a second one for Violette, since she’s new. You’ll pick up one of those fabrics and suddenly know just what you want to do with it.

The first thing I thought when I saw that chest of drawers was, “Jeanne will never be able to find a match to replace the missing knob.” But, I was wrong. So glad it was taped inside. 🙂
That’s a lot of moving around, but glad you are able to ditch a few things to make more room. I’m sure it will all come together. Since it is so tall, I would guess you’ll have to have a stool to see inside the top drawers? I’m sure you will figure it out. Maybe you will need little hanging tags on the handles that tell what is inside each drawer? That might be cute. 🙂
A new RRFF girl will soon be on her way here from the Czech Republic. Hope her journey is swift. 🙂

  4. Well we will see where my comment ends up today… the last one ended up with another sofa sisters comment even though it was as the bottom of the list of comments when I added it? 😉
That is an fantastic piece of furniture. How will you decide where to put everything? What fun that will be deciding. Yes, you may need some kind of label with that many drawers. Something easily changed until you get everything where you want it. Thank goodness you have strong backs💪 and arms. The treasurers you find are amazing.
My friend told me about a fabric sale and I went. Omgosh.. she was a quilter and there were 4 rooms of fabric. One room was fat quarters and bundles….one general fabric….one holiday…one just kits. The majority were from quilt stores…especially the kits. I bought my sisters BD and Christmas presents…she is taking quilting lessons. Most everything was 2.00 a yard🤗 I do so wish you all could have been there.😍

    1. That sale sounds fabulous, Kathie! I’m sure Ron was just as glad I was Not there!! 😂🤣😂

What a beautiful piece of furniture. I would love to have something like that but I’d have to give up two bookcases to fit it and I need the shelves. The chest was quite a find.

  6. Wow! That’s a fabulous piece! I do feel a bit sorry for the man that couldn’t move it himself 🙁
We NEVER have anything that nice in OUR thrift stores around here – ESPECIALLY Goodwill!! and the prices aren’t that great either! AAMOF, I think there are generally better pieces, better quality and better prices at the independent thrift stores. Just out of curiosity, if you don’t mind if I ask, what did your pay for the piece?
