Look at this cutie in camo…

Before I show Stella in her new duds, I wanted to show you a few pictures from the winner of the Sock Monkey dress. She told me when she saw she was the winner, she was thrilled to have won this because it would go with her “collection!” I was guessing she meant her “sock monkey” collection, but wasn’t sure… UNTIL I received her pictures this evening. She also told me she bought Betsy McCall and her “friends” when she first retired from teaching… but NOW SHE HAS TOO MANY TO COUNT! How many of you can relate? Anyway, here are her sweet pictures!

I’m sorry some of you didn’t care for the camouflage romper I made for Stella. I just wanted to do something different and Stella was egging me on. I finished taking some pictures of her in the set, and after we were all done, I glanced over and saw something I had bought for an accessory and will have to take more pictures… but it will be worth the wait…

So, let’s see what I got accomplished yesterday…

A green knit tee… Whenever I find a nice tee somewhere like Goodwill or a yard sale, I buy it because I never know when I might need a knit top to go with something. I opened my box of tops I have and this was laying on top… the absolute perfect color and just what I was hoping to find in there. This has Ultrasoft Velcro in the back and doesn’t catch on the dolls hair… I left the bottom with a lettuce edge to reduce the bulk that has to be tucked into her romper.

Here is what it looks like with the tee underneath the romper…

I made her a pair of camo flip flops… this time a bit wider ribbon was used because the color was better…

And of course, she HAD to have a hat…that’s what she told me… Some of my pictures of her were really nice and clear and the exact color it truly is.

Now one last thing… I found this little patch in my stash of appliques and things, and laid it on the bib of her romper (it’s NOT sewn on) Just wondering what you think… should I show it in my Ebay listing but leave it up to the winner if they want it sewn on or left off? I wasn’t sure on this… I think I kind of like it without it…

Well, that’s my camo girl… you’ll have to come back tomorrow and find out what she’s going to be doing with her “special accessory!”

See you then,
Blessings, Jeanne

Linda McCall looks just perfect in your sock monkey dress, Jeanne, and fits right in with all the lady’s other sock monkey things! I’m so glad she allowed you to share her pictures. Thank you!!

Well, you know how it is, whatever fabric you choose, there’s liable to be at least one person who, for some reason, isn’t partial to it. On the other hand, there are always going to be some who are so glad you “Finally” made something with (insert color/print here)!! My son loved camo and wore a lot of it all thru elementary school; our granddaughter went thru a “pink camo” phase when she was a little girl.

That green t-shirt is perfect, though, and I love that you left the lettuce edge–she can wear it with a skirt or plain shorts, too, if she wants! And of course the flipflops are wonderful, as always!

I kind of like that patch! I would leave it as an option; maybe even try it on the hat, too, just to see.

Oh, Barbara, I meant to say, we had to replace our fridge a few years ago. I had a side-by-side that I just LOVED, but wasn’t able to find one that fit into the space available so I had to settle for a top freezer one. As short as I am, a top freezer isn’t very handy for me; I have to stand on a stool to see anything beyond what’s right in front! Plus it isn’t nearly as big a freezer space as I had in my beloved side-by-side. The only thing that is better, to my mind, is that it is WHITE! My side-by-side was brown! 😝 (bought so it would “match” my stove and DW…)

To each her own, I guess!

LOL I guess appliances are like fabric, it’s in the eye of the beholder. But that’s good or we would not have the choices we do. Since you are short, I can see why you might like the side-by-side. Most of the shelves are within your reach. Sorry you could not have a repeat performance with your new one. I’m not as short as you, about 5’3″, but it still seems everything is above my reach. But I have some tall guys in and out all day so I just snag one of them if I can. My side-by-side is black but my new one is stainless like my dishwasher, oven and microwave.

So that is Linda McCall? I was wondering why her hair was blonde, not like my Betsy, with her brown hair! Such a cute line up of dolls and monkeys! No wonder she just had to buy that outfit!

The top is perfect for the romper, Jeanne! I too, love the lettuce edging on it, and I think this outfit can even work for a boy, although those darling braids give Stella “tomboy” vibe! That patch would be perfect if a boy was wearing it, and maybe you could wait to see who buys it and what they say, like you mentioned. The hat and flip flops just add to the cuteness! I don’t know what kind of accessory you have there, but I think a cute little fishing pole and pail would tell the story! Can’t wait for tomorrow!

As far as refrigerators go, my one complaint against French door refrigerators is that bottom drawer freezer. I am not a fan of digging through packages to find anything. Most of my boxes and containers are on the smaller side, so that doesn’t work well for me. My side by side does, although it could be wider in the freezer section. I only have so much room for the refrigerator, so can only get a certain size.

    1. Barbara in SE Texas

I love getting others’ opinions. What one loves the other may not. I like the idea of the freezer on the bottom and although there is one drawer it has separate sections so hopefully things won’t get lost. Dionne loves hers and she has a lot of small stuff in the drawer, but they do have a small chest freezer for meat because they stock up on that when there is a sale. What I love about the French Door is I can open my fridge and see everything in front of me well lit. I get things lost in the back of the one I have and when I finally find it it’s unrecognizable. I always thought my side-by-side could use a wider freezer but, as you said, size is usually a problem when the space has already been designated.

    Good morning.

In all fairness, your pieces for this outfit are excellent, Jeanne. Maybe a backpack? One of our sons served in the army, and the army paid for his med school. I know a lot of children have a parent serving and probably love having a uniform for their dolls. A lot of folks think camo is just plain “cool.” To me, it’s war and training for war. Not for my sweet Ruby girls. But this IS a cute set, when all is said and done, and “right” for someone. ☺️

Lovely to see Monkey Business (2) is perfect for the winner. Congratulations! This camo set has the shortalls of my Monkey Business (1) and they are fantastic. One of my Shai custom girls has chosen to wear that set for always as it looks so good on her and it is one of my very favorite JM outfits ever. ❤️

Poor Charlotte! I am so sorry about your plumbing, that you have to replace all the piping in your house. Big, fat ugh. You are right, though, that it’s better to take care of that now and not wait for a potential disaster. All my best thoughts coming your way that it is taken care of soon and goes smoothly.

Love my French door fridge. Easier for me to stoop to get my ice cream. 😎 Whenever I went to a home or rented a place with a side by side, I got frustrated trying to get things in the back of the shelves because there was so little room to jockey the things in front around to get to them. Made me grumpy! Again, so nice to have choices in refrigerators, sewing machines, doll clothes, you name it. 🥰

Have a wonderful day. Joy, stay smoke free.

  4. Hi Jeanne, I wasn’t too sure about the camo romper at first but now with the T shirt and hat it is adorable! I would love to see more romper outfits, they would make such cute “going to summer camp” clothes!

  5. I read a lot more than comment, but I wanted to pop in and say that the green/camo is perfect for Stella! Really brings out her eyes. I would leave the patch as an option for the buyer.

  6. Marilyn in Colorado

I wanted something “girly” for this outfit — those pretty matching hair ribbons are perfect. I like the “Born to be Wild” addition, but have you considered adding it to a camo market shopping bag? Or even on a “natural” colored one? You are right in choosing the sandals instead of boots, especially during this heatwave (though this morning, it’s lovely here.) The short sleeves are right for summer too. The greens are lovely with Stella’s coloring. You came through, as you always do.

And didn’t your monkey dress find the perfect home?

  7. Joy in northern CA

Somehow, it slipped by me that Betsy/Barbara can share clothes with the Siblies. I knew about the shoes, but not outfits as well. Great photo of the sock monkey brigade. 🙂
Charlotte, I certainly hope that you are getting multiple bids for repiping, because there are a lot of unscrupulous companies out there. I would definitely steer clear of those that carry the “BigBook”, from which they quote prices. I seriously doubt that your whole house needs replacement pipes. At most, it may be a main line. Don’t believe what the first people tell you. Go to at least five other companies before you do anything. There may be a much simpler fix. Our house is over 70 years old and so far, we have only needed to patch the water line. My husband’s parents, without our knowledge, decided to have their pipes relined. $10,000.00 later, the company had only done the main line not the interior and managed to cut off all of the exterior water faucets. Please be careful with who you choose to do your repairs.
I’m doing all I can to keep quiet about the so popular camo fabric some choose to wear. No hunting, paint ball, or war going on here except with the blackberry brambles in the backyard. 🙂

    1. Hi Joy,
Only hunting going on here is for a lost kitty toy. I have been waging war with the weeds though. I’m fighting hard, but they are definitely winning. They have the heat on their side.
One comment i did think of is maybe Stella is on the hunt for Luca and wants to sneak up on him. I’m really trying…

        1. Kathie from Omaha

Had Doll club today so just got to read a bit of the comments… will read more later. Your followers are the best… all kinds of good advice.
That T shirt is exactly the right color 😊and several others had the back back idea too. I have a yellow one the right size but it’s too light. The appliqué would be just the thing for a back pack.
Oh.. I stopped at Joanne Fabric today and they had rolls of Liberty of London prints! Just the right size too. I took some pics… will send them. 🤗

  8. Cheryl Mahoney

That little camo outfit is perfect for camping or a dolly nature walk! The hat and sandals are perfect!! Also love Marilyn’s idea of adding the patch to a bag or backpack. Or leaving it loose for the lucky winner to decide where it goes. Cute, cute, cute!

  9. Barbara in SE Texas

This camo outfit just keeps getting cuter and cuter. I would leave the patch as an option. Love the hat. The tee is perfect. Did the original shirt have the lettuce edge? When I repurpose a shirt that has a lettuce edge I use it for the bottom of the new shirt. I’ve never been able to perfect the technique myself.

How nice that the winner of the sock monkey dress sent pictures. Wonderful sock monkey collection. So that’s Linda McCall. I knew there was one but I don’t believe I have ever seen a picture of her. I know they have Sandy too.

Right now my new fridge is in the garage and there is a lot of contemplation about how to get it into the house. Taking the fridge doors off is an option but a tentative one because of things in the door. In a newer house the doors would be a standard size but all the outside doors in this house are different sizes and none of them the right size. One possibility would involve taking apart the flower garden alongside the walk from the driveway and bringing it straight into the kitchen. We want to remove that anyway, but it wasn’t on the current “to do” list. How soon I will be able to use my new acquisition is up in the air at the moment. Not to mention that the hose for the ice maker was not available and David is having to check around town to see if he can make one. Seems like buying the refrigerator was the easy part.

    1. Joy in northern CA

Wouldn’t you know that of all things the water hose isn’t available at the moment. And the doors. What a dilemma. I’m sure you will figure it all out. It will be so nice to have your refrigerator in the kitchen. It will save so many steps. 🙂

  10. Okay, I can’t change my opinion on this one. I guess it’s from having family that served and that I see the fabric as war. The lady I know in the Ukraine won’t be able to offer some of her handmade items in certain colors because she has no way to replenish her yarn. I’ll say the two positives I can and leave it at that. I like lettuce edging on tees and I like iridescent ribbon.

  11. Jeanne, as soon as I saw that cute little sign right under the buttons I thought, “Why not put little thin loops on it to go over the buttons?” . That would make it easy to put on or take off. Anyway, I love the outfit, all of it! And “Born to be Wild” was my younger son’s theme song!

  12. Stella’s outfit is really cute but when your trying to learn how to take pictures of wildlife, you have to position yourself in hidden places. I think Stella would like to get pictures of birds too… so she has to be really quiet and hide but yet get a good view of the wildlife and birds in her camera.
Perhaps her dad is teaching her about taking good photograph’s? Like Aunt Jeanne takes good pictures of her models!

    1. Laura in Ohio

That’s it, Paula!! You just found the positive spin this outfit is needing. I can see it now. Maybe I actually can try to associate camo with something else. You’re right, Stella is trying to photograph the birds and other wildlife around her home and she has to blend with nature to get the best pictures. Maybe there’s a contest for the best photograph or rarest sighting. I’ll bet Kit’s camera and maybe even Samantha’s bird watching binoculars would work with the Rubies. I’ll have to get out mine and see.

      1. Great additional ideas! Thanks Laura for the extra ideas!
Jeanne, do you have a little camera or binoculars as Laura suggested? 😊
The sofa sisters had some great ideas too!
It’s fun when everyone comes up with ideas.

    2. Joy in northern CA

Love this take on the camo. The other day all I could think of was being a chameleon in the garden. 🙂 Photographing wildlife is a fantastic idea. Hope Jeanne goes for it. If no camera or binoculars are available, maybe Stella, can be building a birdhouse? I’m sure George could come up with something. 🙂

  13. Meant to add, her outfit is perfect for hiding behind bushes and trees. Blending in so to speak.

    1. Sally from Colorado

You have a great mind, Paula. You have helped several of us make a turnaround on this camouflage business. Thank you! ☺️
