Today is World Doll Day… are you celebrating?

Yesterday, Dorothy left a link to World Doll Day, which is today… and I know some of you don’t see all the comments, so I thought I’d post that link here so you can check out all it has to offer… there are several links at the bottom of that first page… so you might want to check out a few of them too…

World Doll Day

If you aren’t doing anything special with your dolls, why don’t you pick one of your favorites, put a pretty dress on her and have lunch with her sitting at your table… then you can take a “selfie” if you want and share it with us… I’ll post them next week…

If you are going OUT for World Doll Day, like Dorothy is, maybe get a group picture of the ladies with their dolls… :o)

Thank you for sharing the link Dorothy!
Have a wonderful weekend everyone,

See you Monday… MAYBE…
Blessings, Jeanne

Happy World Doll Day to all the sofa sisters! I will make a FB post with a few of my dolls, and the link Dorothy shared (thank you!). I’m glad I didn’t miss it.

Frankly, I need some dolly time. I found out today that my doctor (of 30 or so years) is no longer at the clinic, and the gal who called me (to talk about test results “with your provider, Dr. Mata” (who?! My doctor is Laura!) has only been there a couple of weeks and never met Laura!! Usually they send out a letter announcing a doctor’s retirement or change or practice, but not this time, and apparently this has been since May 6th (less than two weeks after my last appt. with her). Since she said nothing to me about it, it makes me think something traumatic has happened–a car accident, stroke, etc…Her nurse, however, will be back next week, and I asked that she call me, as I’m sure she’ll be able to tell me what happened. I will keep you posted.

That phone call woke me, and of course, I didn’t get much sleep after that, so I’m running on fumes, and heading to bed shortly.

Oh, I wanted to add, in regard to Marilyn’s comment about the “exploding firework” type decoration on Lian’s hat: Perhaps you could name this outfit “fireworks fashion” or “sparkling style” or something like that? Bring in either the 4th or fireworks or sparklers….

    1. Hi Charlotte,
I loved your line, Frankly, I need some dolly time! I hope you found some!!
      Thanks Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Well, World Doll Day isn’t going to be much in the way of dolls today for me! My young grandson is coming to spend the day, and dolls are not his thing! We will be doing “boy stuff”, but that’s OK, since I am also expecting a package from American Girl today!
I need to put away things that I have out that might get “played with” by a little boy!

Hoping to see some pictures next week of some of you with dolls!

My prayers are with you, Jeanne, for a successful knee replacement for George!

    1. Hello there,
I am new here I just posted my first comment today but you all seem like a wonderful group of ladies! I was just wondering if you wouldn’t mind sharing what you got from American Girl?

      1. Charlotte Trayer

Lauren, welcome! You will love this group. One of our members has dubbed us the “sofa sisters”–and there is always room on the sofa for another!! Some of us have gotten to be friends (generally via email, Facebook or another doll group) after first meeting here. So, welcome!!

      2. Linda in St. Louis

Hello Lauren! Welcome to this wonderful doll group! I have been here since Jeanne started and she seems to knock every outfit out of the box every time!
This is my “happy place” to start out my day, and I’m sure it will be yours too!

I got Molly’s “Capture the Flag” set and the Olympic Medal set. I already have Molly, and she is my most spoiled girl, but she does have her friends
Susan and Ruthie to share the fun with, and little Betsy McCall too. I used Ruthie in place of her friend, Linda, since that’s MY name, and Ruthie fits right in.

Before I forget, we all like to know where everyone is from, so how about you?

        1. Hello Linda,
Molly was my very first doll too! I think she is my most spoiled girl too! For my birthday 🥳 I am asking for her birthday, school, and camp, accessories and then her ⛺️ Camp Gowonagin outfit! She will be getting very spoiled this July if I get those things! I think Molly is the Best! Thanks!

    2. Hi Linda
I hope you had a fun day with Willie…maybe no dolls were played with but I bet some memories were made! Maybe even some ice cream was in the mix!!
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Since we’ll still be in the low 90’s today, doubt that I’ll take any dollies outside for a photo. After yesterday’s 102, we’re still recovering from the heat. The coolness of this morning will start to dissipate as soon as the sun appears. Tomorrow though, should be much cooler for the annual family picnic at the home of my cousin north of here.
Be thinking of George, Monday afternoon. Figure you’ll have to spend the night in a hotel. Maybe you can bring along a good read and catch up on the internet as well as some hand sewing. Hope you have that ice machine at home ready for his return. Great that Rebecca/Karn will be around to keep an eye on the critters for you. 🙂

    1. Hi Joy,
I hope your extremely hot weather calms down because that makes the fire threats more likely, doesn’t it?
Yes, we’ve got the ice machine ready for a workout…it’s been a long day and I’m ready for bed..
But have to get a few more things done.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Thank you for the link to the Doll Day activities☺️ I sent it on to my Doll Club members.. I had planned on giving a doll to someone in the neighborhood but can you believe there are no little girls that I know? I’ll try for a pic… nice idea☺️
Best wishes for the surgery. Hope they do send home one of those ice machines… it helps so much. Take care🙏🏻🙏🏻

    1. Hi Kathie,
I was in the Goodwill returning something and saw a little girl about 4 or 5 pick up a Disney Animator doll and ask her mom if she could get it. Her mom said no so she put it back…my mind was on other things, but as soon as I got back out to mt car, I could have kicked myself for not buying it and waiting for them to leave so I could give it to her and wish her Happy World Dolls Day! I missed a wonderful opportunity to bless that little girl…rats!!
      Thanks Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Hi,
I am new here but I love your guys’ blog! I LOVE dolls too and have a little bit of everything from some porcelain Shirley Temple dolls from my grandma, a Ken sized Elvis doll from my Mummy( my other grandmother) I like to say that my Barbie’s didn’t go on dates with Ken they went on dates with Elvis!!!! Then I have one A Girl for All Time Matilda from Tudor England, and my favorites my 18 inch dolls by A Life of Faith, Our Generation, and we can’t forget the girl and her company who started it all Molly McIntire and American Girl!

I think I will celebrate with my dolls in some way today for World Doll Day! I have been reading your post for some time and just got the courage up to post something! Maybe you could call your Fourth of July outfit Firework Flare or Fireworks with Flare! I hope your husband’s’ surgery goes well Jeanne!( that was my Mummy’s)(mom’s mom) name too! I hope to make some new doll friends here though, so a kind hello to all of you from me! Have a good weekend! 🙂

    1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Lauren, welcome. This is a wonderful sisterhood Jeanne has created. We call ourselves the Sofa Sisters. We like to “sit” on Jeanne’s couch and share stories about our lives and our interests. We hope you will share yours with us. Happy World Doll Day!

    2. Joy in northern CA

Welcome. Don’t be shy. Just post when you can. Sounds like you have lots of dolls at your place. 🙂

    3. Sally from Colorado

Hello, Lauren, and a hearty welcome!
What a great day to start posting on this blog…World Doll Day. With this gang of sofa sisters, though, every day is Doll Day. While most of the sisters here sew and are very good at it, there are a few like Dorothy of PA and myself who are great cheerleaders of all the gals here who sew and enjoy buying wonderful creations made by other talented women for our dolly kids.
Do tell us a bit more about yourself when you have a chance, and a Barbie who prefers Elvis to Ken is one smart girl!

    4. HI Lauren,
Thanks for jumping right in and joining in on the fun… especially on World Doll Day! It sounds like you have some wonderful and special dolls.

I’ll be thinking of the title for this next set while I’m playing nursemaid for my hubby… I do like the idea of fireworks in the title somewhere!

Thanks for being brave and commenting… We are a very friendly group and we learn a lot too!
I hope you have a wonderful weekend too!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. annecoldron:outlook.com Anne Coldron in New Zealand

Welcome Lauren everyone here is ultra friendly. Where are you from? As you can see from above I am in New Zealand so everything is opposite here, I am writing this on June 12th at 7.40 am on a cold and windy winter morning!

  7. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, the luncheon was so much fun! The food was delicious and the conversation was delightful.

I even won a doll in the raffle!

Doll expert Elizabeth Coleman made a presentation on fashion dolls.

One of the doll clubs to which I belong meets on Zoom tomorrow. This is truly a weekend of dolly bliss.

    Happy World Doll Day!

    1. Sally from Colorado

      Dear Dorothy,
You won a doll? Fantastic and congratulations! So happy when I read about your doll events and teas. You really make me smile.
Well, old Sal saw that Ed was having a 20% off sale today of things in stock, so I snapped up a 12” Rory Siblie to hang out with Victor. Seemed pretty necessary to me. Then as I trolled my favorite RubyRed Facebook sites, what appeared but a glorious, colorful Oriental ensemble that I knew one of my new Girls of the Orient had to have. We know how that goes, don’t we?! 😁 So that was how I participated in World Doll Day. Sending a hug and big smile.

      1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Sally, we must have passed each other on Ed’s site (laugh). I got a doll carrier that will fit my 18 inch Kaye Wiggs doll. I have one already (a different one) but I don’t feel it’s sturdy enough so I wanted a new one. And getting 20 percent off was a definite incentive.

Do you know that Ed does programs a few times a month about the 1470 doll with Doug James? They are on Zoom.

So a doll and an outfit. You really did celebrate World Doll Day! Have a great rest of the weekend.

      2. HI Sally,
I look at it this way… you were just doing YOUR PART to make the day a success… sounds like it was! :o) Congrats on your new finds too!
        Blessings, Jeanne

    2. Oooooo… Dorothy, a NEW dolly on World Doll Day! How much fun is that? You’ll have to share your new little girl with us soon! I’m so glad you had a nice luncheon and we sure hope you took some pictures!!
I was checking out doll shops in the area where we will be… not that I’ll be able to go… but ….maybe…. :o)
Thanks for keeping us informed about it… my mind was elsewhere! :o(
      Blessings, Jeanne

    3. Charlotte Trayer

Congratulations on your raffle win, Dorothy!! Just sweetened the day for you!

      1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Charlotte, thank you for the good wishes. I usually don’t win so it felt very good.

  8. Debbie in North Carolina

Jeanne, Lian’s patriotic dress is very festive. I am a fan of the tiered dresses for the Little Darlings. The star buttons and the red and white flower are a nice touch. My Little Darling is due this month. It has been a very long wait. Why didn’t I know about them before they were so popular?

Many prayers for George’s knee surgery on Monday. It is good that you have Rebecca and Karn coming to help out and keep your spirits up.

Dorothy, Thank you for sharing the link to World Doll Day. I commemorated the day by reading the history and purpose of this day. I know I didn’t have as much fun as you did! Congratulations on winning one of the raffles.

Lauren, Welcome, I don’t post as much as I read but I love the shared interests and reading about what is going on with the other sisters.

Linda, I hope you and grandson had a good day doing “boy stuff”. Would that American Girl package contain the new Molly doll?

Charlotte, I am sorry you have lost your doctor. They are hard to replace.

    1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Debbie, thank you. I do enjoy spending time with my dolls and doll friends. They truly bring me joy.

      1. Sally from Colorado

        Hi Jeanne,
Well, Lian is looking very snazzy for the 4th. You have truly pulled this set together quite spectacularly which is no surprise to any of us.

Like everyone else, I will be rooting for George that this time the surgery is final and fantastic. Seems overdue.

Also, I have loved the pictures of the birds, and enjoyed Joy’s explanation of the feeding process.

Always great to hear from Anne…sorry you’re shivering as many of us are toasting.

Suzette! Are you all right, I hope? Seems like ages.

Charlotte, that is crushing news to learn, especially in that manner, that your trusted doc of 30 years is no longer practicing. I really hope the new doc turns out to be a good one.

Happy World Doll Day to all the beautiful sofa sisters. Keep your lights shining. 🙌🎈❤️ You’re awesome.

        1. HI Sally,
Good to hear from you again… I was getting a little worried about you, but was hoping you were just in a busy season…
You might be the queen of World Doll Day… at least you are the queen of having the most Ruby Red Fashion Friends of anyone I know… I would LOVE to see a picture of them all at one time… I can’t imagine how much fun it must be to let your eyes drift from one to the next…

          Thanks Sally,
          Blessings, Jeanne

    2. HI Debbie,
Congrats on your new Little Darling coming this month! You will be amazed at how fun they are… and so life-like looking… and if you sew for her, she’s a wonderful size!
It’s fun to have a day just to celebrate dolls, isn’t it! Sounds like you had fun reading up on the history… I read it last night and it was a great story.

      Thanks for your prayers Debbie…
      Blessings, Jeanne

    3. Linda in St. Louis

Debbie, no I didn’t get Molly, I already have her and a gazillion things for her! I bought her Capture the Flag set and the Olympic Medals set. Very happy to have gotten them and very satisfied!
      Thanks for asking!

    4. Linda in St. Louis

Debbie, for some reason, my comment to you is awaiting moderation! Not sure why, but in case it never gets here, no I did not get Molly, since I already have her. I got her Capture the Flag set, which I have been looking for, for some time, and also the Olympic Medal Set. Both are very nice!

      1. Debbie in North Carolina

Linda, Molly has some of my favorite accessories of all the American Girls. They remind me so much of my childhood, later than Molly but things did not change as fast as they do in today’s world. I am glad you found some goodies for your Molly collection. I love the pictures you share.
