HOW DID MY SEWING ROOM GET IN SUCH A MESS???

I’m not sure how things got so messy in my sewing room when “I AM” the only one in here. My hubby doesn’t come in and get my fabrics out and spread them all over, he doesn’t get into my trims and leave them on the ironing board, so I guess this mess must be TOTALLY MY FAULT!! I hate to admit it, but it IS!!!

Rebecca brought me some stuff and I didn’t really have a home for it, so it just got put “somewhere”….”anywhere” where it would fit… and after this happens a few times, you have a mess starting…then you add some pants that needed altering for someone…and then another pair for someone else, and it starts getting messier.

I have been seeing things in my room, too, that I want to sell, but I’m trying to figure out how to do it. I wish I could put all the things I want to sell on a table, like an indoor yard sale, put the price on the item, take a few pictures, and ask if anyone would like to buy anything they see…

This is an example of some things I want to sell…

The problem is…how do I make it fair for everyone? Clearly the people on the east coast will see things first because of the time difference across the US…

I’ve thought about putting things in lots and selling the whole group as a bundle deal for one set price. But I’m concerned that I would have people asking to have this doll put in that lot or I really only want the books and not the rest…hmmm…

What I have, and want to sell, isn’t necessarily handmade, so that kind of leaves Etsy out. I just want to move it out quickly and fairly for everyone.

So if anyone has any thoughts or suggestions, I am listening!! :o)

I’m continuing to work in my room this evening, but you sure can’t see where I’ve made any progress!!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Oh Jeanne, I think your problem is that you are just a human, like we all are! Creative minds always have this disarray before anything is produced! I am one of those that always is worried about what things “look” like while I am doing them, such as cooking, rearranging, etc. You should see my doll room when I am in the midst of changing their clothes and scenes! A complete mess! But I do love to straighten things up and make them pretty again, and you could spend a day just doing that, and not worry about anything else. You will feel like you have accomplished something, and your room will be perfect! Besides, it is going to be raining here all day, plus tomorrow too!

I noticed something funny about one of the pictures, the second to last one with your sewing machine in it. Check out the drawers on the left. All the drawers are “smiling”, except the one on the bottom! Poor guy!

What nice things you have to sell! Why not have a silent auction, and give everyone a week to make a bid? At the end of the week, the highest bid wins! Let’s see what others think or others suggest.

The handle is just stuck in the upturned position, Linda. Our antique barrelfront desk has similar handles on the drawers. i do like that you said the drawers are smiling. They are happy to be seeing all the lovely clothes.

Actually, compared to my sewing room, yours is neat as a pin, Jeanne! I am by nature very cluttery, I’m afraid, and I also have to have stuff “out” where I can see it, otherwise I forget what I have. That’s my excuse, anyway!! LOL (For example, today I went thru a kitchen drawer that holds small pieces of Tupperware, and found some things I’d completely forgotten about!!)

As to how to sell some of your items thru your blog, maybe suggest a minimum amount (particularly on the AG sets and the Ginny doll) and give 24 hours for everyone interested to email (privately) you with her best bid. Whoever gives the highest bid, wins the item. In the case of a tie, you could maybe draw straws? That way, everyone would have a chance to send you a bid (but it would have to be via email, to keep the amounts private from other bidders, I would think). You’d also need to decide on whether you would charge shipping or include it in the minimum bid. Just my ideas….

Oh, I meant to add two things:

Congrats to Karen and family on another little girl! My best friend is one of five girls (the middle one, in fact), and a nicer family you could never hope to find. Her parents were my “second parents”, and her mom was the one who taught me to sew in 4H! Loved them dearly.

Joy, I am so jealous of your Siblie Ten Ping! I didn’t find out about her until she was completely sold out. I hadn’t been too enticed by the Silbies up to that point, but she is lovely, and I know I would enjoy having one. Hopefully they will bring out another version of her in the future.

Thank you very much, Charlotte! May our family be as kind as your dear friends are!! <3

  4. Thanks a lot Jeanne ! I thought I was the only one with a messy sewing room !
I don’t know how that happens. I tidy up regularly but the mess comes back without me noticing it ! There are certainly plenty of pretty things in your « bazaar » I would like to get but from France, it’s a little bit difficult. Hope you’ll find the right way to organize your sales.
    Have a nice day.

I’m sure you have enough of us here to sell your goodies quickly. How you decide to do it is up to you, but personally, I wouldn’t want to buy the whole lot of items when I only wanted something specifically. To avoid a lot of back and forth with bidding, I’d set a price with shipping included, and then the names of those interested would go into a drawing. The winner buys the item. If the winner fails to buy in a timely manner, then it goes to the next in line. 🙂 You would probably quickly find out if you had fair pricing or not. ) Put me down for the pink couch. I’ve been looking for one since you showed it the first time. Ha ha

Dear Jeanne, your sewing room looks like my whole house (smile). Where is Hillary Farr (Love It Or List TV decorating show) when I need her? Honestly, I could use her help (laugh).

I bet some of your dollies are to blame also. I think our doll children come out to play when we sleep. Ann Martin writes about this in her Doll People series.

Dear Jeanne, I forgot to say Happy Cinco de Mayo to any of the Sofa Sisters who celebrate it!

  8. Laura in Ohio

I think Dorothy is right, the dollies are to blame. They get fabric and trims out while others eye the props.
All the selling suggestions are great. It will be fun to see what all you are selling.

Now I know who I should blame for the mess in my sewing room at the moment. Thirty plus little ladies who’ve obviously been going through the fabrics and patterns trying to get a leg up on who’s next in line for a new outfit. And they’ve pulled out several of the trim bins. But I’m still trying to figure out how they managed to take the big plastic storage box containing the plastic canvas off the top of the box containing the plastic canvas yarn and put it on the floor. It’s really heavy. Must have taken all of them. So now I have things everywhere, including on the floor to the point where I can barely walk in there. All I know is I had nothing to do with the mess but I’m sure I’ll be the one having to clean it all up.

As for your lightening your load, well I see a couple things I’d like to have. Maybe you could list the items with descriptions, and we all tell you privately which we’d like to have, you put our names for that item in a hat and draw a name. Kind of like you do for the slips and things. It would be fair and we would never have to know who won, only that we didn’t.

The Maypole pictures are on the way along with some pictures of Easter finery. Enjoy!

I forgot to mention listing prices along with the descriptions. I think bidding on the items could get really complicated.

  11. Garage Sales are always a lot of work…no matter what or how you do it. 😵‍💫 I’d spread all the items out on a table and put big numbers on the items, or group of items, with the price. Figure shipping after they commit. If you post the pics at 5:00 Central time it takes in Eastern and Pacific times that are not too early or late. If item is bought by two or more the earliest email would win. Pull the item at the end of the day it sells. Re group and take new pics of each table. Groupings would remain together…otherwise you would drive yourself crazy.😳🥰 Good Luck
