American Girl Molly, in her “cherry checked” dress…

HI everyone,

Look what we got today…

…about 3 inches of the white stuff! It is 24 degrees right now with a wind chill factor of 11… so it’s not going anywhere until probably Sunday! BRRRR!

We didn’t get much done on the floor in my hubby’s office, but you can at least “see” the floor now… his office is only about 9 feet by 10 feet and is pretty small, considering what all is in there… the washer and dryer take up almost 1/4 of the space…

I took some pictures of just the floor… which was peel and stick tile we put down when we first moved in 18 years ago. It was from Big Lots and was pretty cheap…

The black pattern in the floor is where the top layer of the cheap tiles wore off… see, he really needs a new floor.

Here’s a short 10 second video of his office… just the floor…

It took him all day to get everything out except the washer and dryer (he thinks we can work around them and then get them in place without having to move them out of the room.)

When I got home from the Food Pantry, he was still working and when I changed clothes and said I was ready to start laying planks, he said he was too tired and we’d have to wait till Saturday… so we did… and guess what I did? I sewed for Molly…

I made some progress on her new dress… see what you think…it’s NOT hemmed yet…

I tried to mimic the cherries in the print with some buttons…

I added a second row of that cluny trim and then put together some felt flowers and more buttons for another accent on her dress…
Don’t hate me Kathie, I know you weren’t crazy about the trim…

Here is a close up… actually my pictures aren’t picking up the right color of the trim… it’s a nice match to the cherries…

Here is the collar all finished and in place…

I’m getting there…

The dress still has to have the snaps sewn on the back and probably buttons sewn on. The skirt still has to be hemmed as well…

I hope this holds you over till Monday…
See you then… have a nice weekend.
Blessings, Jeanne

The trim looks great and the felt flowers! The whole outfit makes me feel happy!🤗

Jeanne, you got what we were expecting, all that snow, but that’s OK, since we got a whole inch, and that was enough for us!!! Enjoy it while you can, since I bet this is the last snow we will get that is measurable. So pretty!

Oh my, what I would give to have had that dress as a little girl! I loved cherries and lace! Those sleeves are exactly the way a lot of sleeves were back then, and are those little French knots on the buttons? So cute! You nailed it!

I like it that the dress isn’t overly full, since we really didn’t have full dresses back then, and yes, it should be shorter, but not too short! I always remember my mother buying dresses that we could “grow into”, meaning they were a bit big when they were new. I don’t see that anymore, and dresses always had to have a hem that could be taken down later! However, I don’t think Molly will be growing much at all, so you can make a dress that fits perfectly!! And that’s your expertise!!

Linda, if you are on FB, you should join Metal Doll Houses from the 40’s through the 80’s. You would love it. Some amazing houses and furniture, but yours is the masterpiece. 🙂

I’m glad you said something about the lace not showing up as the correct color, because it looked pretty “dusty” to me, rather than vivid. I’m with Kathie, on the lace; I would probably have gone with rickrack. BUT…you don’t always know for sure until you start putting things together in the planning stages, whether what you Think is going to work, really will!!

That collar turned out just perfectly, Jeanne. I am definitely going to have to try your method!! I also love the sleeve detail. Can’t wait to see what’s next!!

Linda, Molly was My first AG doll, also! And, I still have her. She has a huge wardrobe!!

I see that several of us asked the burning question yesterday (which I didn’t see answered yet): Did you clip the curves, or just trim the seam allowances? I am always clipping curves, even if I trim the SAs.

I made a little progress on my jacket tonight–hopefully it’ll be done soon so I can get back to Freida’s dress (which, she would gladly tell you, is Far more important!!)

    The dress looks nice! 🙂

Last night we went to Church and it was starting to snow. When we came back home a little more than an hour later, the ground was covered in the fluffy white stuff. Earlier this year when it snowed, it seemed to take longer to cover the ground.

My Amaryllis has two shoots shooting up 🙂

Karen from Kentucky — that’s my grandmother’s home state, so I like hearing about it and the Paducah quilt show — Paducah was the big town the family sometimes got to visit. My great-grandmother had a wandering foot, so they moved on…and on.

George’s office is going to be much improved with its new floor. It’s going to be fun to see what you do to make this small space interesting. There’s a lot of current interest in well-used small spaces.

Molly’s dress is perfect — we were wearing similar ones in the 50’s, though some skirts did get wider, to be worn with Maryellen petticoats, but Linda’s comment is on-target, and I think the proportions on this dress are exactly right. It’s not my favorite era, but this dress is lovely — every detail is right. There are a lot of Molly fans — this dress should do very well.

Back to the winter wonderland. It is beautiful! 🙂
Molly’s dress sleeve detail is very cute. She will be dressed so spiffy for the opening of the botanic gardens. She might even be able to catch the cherry trees is blossom.
Is that a closet in George’s office? If so, I’d put the desk or the washer/dryer in there and have more space. Maybe he’ll decide that a lot of stuff really isn’t needed, because new flooring will make all of the difference. I would also move out the w/d because it will make putting down the floor so much easier. 🙂 Just my take, but you two have the experience putting in floors for sure. Oh, and are you going to paint the walls? A lighter color will definitely make the room seem larger as well. Oh, there I go remodeling again. Can’t wait to see the progress with the Jeanne and George show. 🙂
Here, it’s 33 and clear and sunny. Have to remember the time change is tonight. Not going to like that first few days getting up an hour earlier. 🙁

      Hi Joy
To answer your question from yesterday Omicrom has really taken hold, we have over 200,000 cases currently (that they actually know of, but many people are using the Rapid Antigen test at home and not necessarily reporting a positive result) with about 800 in hospital. Less than 20 of those are in ICU. In the whole two years we have had around 100+ deaths but not all due to the virus. They are reported as having died with Covid but not necessarily from it. The country is over 98% vaccinated (over 18’s) and a majority have also had the booster shot. They attribute the low ICU rate to this high vaccination rate.
From a personal level, My older son, his wife and two (adult) children have it, My younger son is isolating at home as his housemate has it (though my son had a very severe cold last week and took three RA tests all negative). Ashley’s school hasn’t had a huge surge of cases and so far seems to be fine, Kai now has a classmate (at college) who has it so Sam and I are being cautious. We aren’t isolating but we are trying to get enough supplies in case we have to. We have decided not to go to church as at least one of our friends is very immuno-compromised and we aren’t going to our normal coffee morning on Tuesday to protect the same friend though she probably won’t go anyway. Otherwise we are fine.

So glad you are okay, but sounds like so many in your area are contracting it. Glad for the high vaccination rates. Here, masks are coming off, but still using in schools for now. If the numbers are good, looks like the kids will be able to remove the masks at some point. Fingers crossed you don’t get it. Stay safe.

  7. I imagine by now, you and George are well into working on the office floor. I hope it goes smoothly and with it being cold outside with that beautiful layer of snow, redoing the office floor is a good project.

Molly’s dress is coming along and what a clever and cute way to accent the sleeves with pink buttons that look like cherries. The white crisp collar and the white trim on the sleeves set off the checked print so well.
    What a sweet dress!

Dear Jeanne, I had to laugh when I saw the photo of the office floor. I watch way too many crime/detective shows because the black area on the floor made me think of the outline of a body that one always sees on these shows.

As for the dress, it is lovely. I want to sing the line for the old song, “Good Golly Miss Molly.”

It’s snowing here in PA right now. We are supposed to get up to 3 inches. Come on May!!!

    1. Barbara in SE Texas

Dorothy, where exactly do you live in PA? Will you be getting that really bad storm with the high winds? I can’t remember exactly what it’s called. We never had that when I was growing up in PA but I think they’ve had several in the last few years.

  9. Barbara in SE Texas

Oh, I really love Molly’s dress and it does remind me of some of my first school dresses. Clever idea with the buttons. I wasn’t too fond of the embellishments when you just had them pinned on, but I find I do like them after all.

No snow here but we sure did have a cold one yesterday. Cloudy, cold and really windy. I haven’t been outside yet today, but it is sunny and bright and looks like the wind has calmed down. But I do love the snow pictures. Brings back memories of my days in PA.

Hi Everyone! Greetings from Sunny Colorado Springs, CO. Our snow is starting to melt and it will be 55 degrees today and 59 tomorrow. I miss the pure white snow. So beautiful. I love the dress you are making for Molly, Jeanne. So adorable for her time period. It brightens up her face and make me smile. I just got an email from Lee and Pearl doll clothes designers and they are giving away for free a Ukrainian transfer of a Sunflower and the Ukrainian flag as a design if you wish to transfer it to a doll’s tee shirt. It is to show solidarity for them over there. The website is http://www.leeandpearl.com . Hope everyone is well. Miss all of you.

    1. Charlotte Trayer

Elaine, thank you for the link to Lee and Pearl; looks like an interesting site. I will have to spend a little time there tomorrow night! For now, I need to finish up and get to bed–time change, and teaching Sunday School in the morning!!

  11. Snow for us as well, though only an inch. It is 24 degrees here with a real feel of 17. It hit me in the face when I went out to feed etc. the porch kitties, birds, and other furry critters.

Molly’s dress is so cute. i love the cherry button detail on the sleeves. Cluny lace most certainly existed in the 1940’s because I found this.
    1862
Cluny guipure, French bobbin lace first made in the mid-19th century. It is called Cluny because it was inspired by examples of 16th- and 17th-century scalloped lace with geometric patterns displayed in the Cluny Museum, Paris. Cluny guipure was made from about 1862 in Lorraine.
That means it could even be on Civil War gowns. I do understand about wanting things accurate for the time. i would always make sure a trim exist for a historical dress just as I make sure an accessory exist before I place it with a doll in a certain era. Of course, as long as it was before it is fair game for anything later.
I do think rick rack is more iconic to the 1930’s and 1940’s in people’s minds. Hopefully you will get George’s floor finished over the weekend.

  12. Never would hate you Jeanne…it would take way more than a differing opinion on lace😳🤔🤗
It is such a cute dress…so perfect for the time of too. Something about those felt flowers and sleeve trim gives it that “Jeanne touch’.
Good luck with the floor…it will be so fresh and stylish and needless to say match the rest of the house too. When we moved into our farmhouse, that was the same age as yours, we laid a vinyl floor with a pretty design pressed into it..kind of looked like a snowflake….little did I realize that dirt and food would get in those grooves and stick like glue! Ugh….used ammonia and a stiff brush to clean those groves😜
For some reason we have missed most of the storms this winter..but I do remember lots of snow in March🥴 though. Spring Can’t be too far away now!☘️
