Who’s up next for a new doll dress? Find out today!

I went throught my list of dolls who modeled dresses in 2021 and wrote their names down. Then I looked on my dolly shelf and wrote down the names of those who didn’t get their 15 minutes of fame. I had these names on my list…

Rebecca
Nellie
Nora
Nyssa
Noel
Maryellen
Molly
Patsy

I picked one of the girls on that list and you should have seen the flips… (I think she won a gold medal!) :o)

She’s a little cutie pie and has pretty blue eyes, so we began the “somewhat” arduous task of picking a fabric that we both liked…

Since it’s still on the cold side in much of the US, we decided she’d need something with sleeves… not necessarily a dress with long sleeves, but sleeves of some kind…

The doll that you’ll see next was little Noel, a 10″ Boneka doll. She’s very excited and wanted me to get started right away. I did!

The basic dress has been constructed… but no snaps or hem yet… I LOVE LOVE LOVE this wonderful pinwale corduroy with its soft mint/aqua colored background and shades of pink and rose flowers.

It looks good on just about any doll, but then Noel, isn’t just any doll, she’s a sweet little girl who’s going to look mighty fine when we get this finished.

I left her laying on my cutting table but this is what happened a little while ago. We had a great photo shoot… but since I didn’t have many details to show yet, it’s the same picture, just from a few different angles. Stay tuned for more…

We did decide she’d need a jacket and you know what that most likely means… one of my wool felt embroidered jackets. We’ve even gotten it cut out already…

Have fun playing with your dolls today… I’m hoping to be sewing!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

When I started looking at yesterday’s post, to see what comments were made throughout the day, I realized…I forgot to read it last night! (I always read it just before I go to bed–when some of you early birds on the east coast are getting up!) That’s why there were no comments from me. I apologize, and really appreciate everyone’s concern! All is well here, and, in fact, there has been some excitement around here because of a certain package, which arrived in the mail today! We didn’t get the mail until we were on our way out for dinner, so Gigi hasn’t seen it yet. She had fallen asleep on the sofa while we were gone (she and her sisters had been outside all afternoon, playing “tag” and “statues”, and wore herself out!), and barely stirred when I tucked her into bed. She will have a nice surprise in the morning!

Linda, congrats on your Emmy! She is certainly sweet, and I like the name Emmy much better than Emerson. (Who else thinks of “Charles Emerson Winchester the Third” from M*A*S*H when they hear that name?!) I’m sure Betsy is as happy as can be to have a new friend just her size, and I’m sure Ivy is delighted to have a little sister who looks so much like her!

Oh my goodness!! “Swedish Sweetness” has FIVE bids already!! WooHoo!!

Jeanne, I do hope that the roofers can fix whatever it is that is leaking. Nothing like a huge rainstorm to point out the trouble spots!!

My granddaughter had a friend named Emerson when she lived here in Sealy so I was spared the thought of Charles Emerson Winchester until you mentioned it. Glad to hear everything is good with you.

  2. Linda in St. Louis

Well, thank goodness, Charlotte is here, so now I can post something! Glad you are OK, Charlotte, and you will have to share a picture of Gigi in her new outfit!

So Noel is next! I love that beautiful corduroy jumper, Jeanne, but the bright pink on my monitor seems to make the pretty blue a dull gray color when it is paired with the jumper. I guess if it was me sewing, I would have gone with a soft blue jacket with pink ribbon flowers, but you see things as they really are, and you have the perfect touch!

I was surprised to see that among the dolls you have, is a Maryellen? I had no idea you have her!
I hope the water situation gets fixed, since your sewing room is about the most important room in your house! 😉

Again, thank all of you for the wonderful compliments on Emmy. I do think I made the right choice!

I’m glad to see that Noel is getting her turn. I love that soft corduroy fabric. The color is lovely too. It brings out the blue in Noel’s eyes. I’m not so fond of the jacket color though. Seems to wash out the cute model. Maybe you will tone it down with some of the greens/blues in the the print. I wonder if you might have an old fashioned lighter rose color available? I would love to also see a sweet batiste blouse underneath with long sleeves and a two piece collar. 🙂
I was very sorry to hear that your new roofing job apparently has failed and definitely where you do not want it to. Were you able to contact the company and get someone out to see the damage? Maybe your insurance company too? This should not happen on a new roof.
Another day of sun ahead for dry CA. We’re going to have to go back to a bucket in the shower so I can water the potted plants. Ugh.

  4. So glad you are okay, Charlotte, and hope to see a photo of Gigi in her new coat and dress.
Noel must be very excited. The corduroy fabric is so pretty. Since Linda and Joy gave opinions, I guess I will, too. I, also, would have gone with blue wool to match the background of the fabric and Noel’s eyes. love Joy’s idea of a white blouse underneath.
I did remember you have Maryellen, but I think she’s only modeled one dress. You need to update us on which dolls you have again.
Oh, that is just terrible about your roof. That certainly shouldn’t have happened. Something must be amiss in the flashing installation. I hope you have a guarantee.
i do hope you get rain soon, Joy. the weather is rather bizarre here as well. Yesterday we were in the low 50’s and this morning there’s about a half inch of snow on the ground, ice on cars, and it was 21.

Dear Jeanne, what a cutie Noel is. She is going to be adorable in her new dress. I do think she will need her jacket for a bit longer as it is still cold. But May will soon be here!

I love corduroy and this pinwale is really special. I have some pinwale that I haven’t made up yet in some pretty colors but none with a wonderful pattern like this. I like the color of the jacket and can’t wait to see how you embellish it.

The pattern I had trouble with was from Londonberries called “Betsy McCall Goes Dottie”. I looked up their site again, but it says it’s down for maintenance, but I don’t know how long it has been like that. The bodice is done by sewing strips of fabric with the contrast fabric at the waist, middle and top. Sounds easy but the way they tell you to then cut out the bodice is a nightmare. You place the bodice piece on the sewn fabric stripes tracing the seam lines onto the pattern piece using a ruler. After you cut out the front bodice piece, you remove the pattern piece and then match up the back bodice piece to the front and draw lines onto the back piece with a ruler matching the front lines to the back. Sounds easy but when you do this and then put the bodice together things don’t match up well. I ended up with barely any contrast at the waist. Looks more like piping than a band. I love the pattern and am considering just cutting out the bodice pieces themselves and use something such as ribbon (grosgrain would be cute) and get the contrast that way. The reason I’m taking the dress apart rather than just trashing it is I love the fabric and don’t want to waste any of it. Recutting the bodice pieces would take little fabric.

So sorry to hear about your leaky sewing room but things in construction can be dicey sometimes until they are tested, especially roofs. When I worked for Shell they built a new complex. The first rain after we moved in the place leaked like a sieve around the windows. There weren’t enough paper towels to stop the flow. Hopefully you will have the matter rectified quickly. I’m getting closer to getting my leaky sewing room fixed but lately when it’s rained I haven’t had the leaks I had before – after cans of Flex-Seal. I’ll be glad when it’s fixed properly so I don’t feel I have to cover my worktable with plastic whenever rain is predicted.
