Some pictures from my readers…

HI everyone,
I am still not great, but fortunately, Charlotte and Joy sent me a few pictures to use! Perfect timing ladies! Thank you! Linda sent some too, and I plan to use them tomorrow!

As promised, here are pictures of the two purses I recently made. I will send this in two parts, and will add comments.

The first picture shows the exterior of the purse I made for my doctor/ARNP. I’ve been seeing her for many years; my old doctor recommended her to me (they were in the same clinic). Because I like her so well, I keep going to her, even though the clinic is about 40 minutes from my home, and there are Many other clinics much closer!

The second picture shows some of the interior pockets. It was fun choosing fabrics to coordinate with the main print (fish).

This is the purse I made for myself. For both purses I used the pattern, “A Cute Bag” by WonderWoman Quilts. I made the first one several years ago (and it’s about worn out now!), and had a number of questions about the directions while I was making it. Ginnie (the lady who designed the pattern) was very patient and answered all my emails, and even changed some of her pattern directions because of my questions (and gave me an edited copy!).

I am sending pictures of both sides of my purse, because the main fabric (the sewing print) is a little different on each side (on purpose)! The batik I chose for the second section has fine metallic-gold lines run thru it, which adds some depth and richness, I think.

The third picture shows one of the interior pockets. She called this the “cell phone pocket”, but it truly isn’t big enough for most of the smart phones people have today! It was designed for the smaller ones people had when she designed the purse. I use this pocket for pens and pencils, my comb, and things like that. The other pockets (shown in the first email) are made from a single piece, with a sewn vertical line dividing it into two. One half of it (as well as this cell phone pocket) is gusseted.

Okay, there you have it! I have also completed three more Wee Care gowns, but they’re somewhat similar to others I’ve made and shown you, so I won’t send those unless requested. In the meantime, I’m trying to get Delaney’s little smocked dress finished, and then I can send you pictures of that!

Thanks Charlotte… cloth purses are fun to sew and fun to carry! Great job on them!

Now, here’s something from Joy… this isn’t a picture of her, but she saw this box turned into a “storage” piece for dolls.

Saw this wardrobe that someone made from a Joann’s box with a magnetic flap. Would be a fun project and also a photo prop. ๐Ÿ™‚ Just in case you’re feeling better. Hope so. They used a dowel and two wheels to make a rod. Good idea.

See you tomorrow,

I hope you are feeling at least Some better, Jeanne!

I’m glad you were able to use my pictures. The bags were fun to make, but also a lot of work, and the straps are many thicknesses, but very sturdy! I noticed on the picture of the inside of my own purse, you can really see the gold lines on the batik pocket.

Joy, thanks for sharing that picture and idea! I would never have thought to use those big boxes like that! I always have loved some of the pretty prints they come in, but really didn’t think I “needed” one of them! Now I’m rethinking that idea!!

Oh, I wanted to let you know, my Frieda has made it as far as Kent, WA (south of Seattle), and now the projected delivery date is SATURDAY!!! Woohoo!!

Great purses Charlotte. You have so much talent!
Well, this morning, my UPS package, the Anniversary Couple RRFF, has made it north to the facility and is being prepared for delivery today by 9:00PM. What do they have to do? Shake the box before throwing it onto the truck? So, we’ll see how it goes. So glad your girl is to arrive Saturday. ๐Ÿ™‚

Dear Charlotte, what a lovely tote! My mind immediately jumped to “hmmm, you could carry a doll in that.” I have several different size totes that I use to carry my dolls.

I do hope you turn it around soon Jeanne, with whatever you have. It’s nice that you have readers who can send in picutres of what is going on at their house to fill in for you occasionally.

Charlotte, your purses are so unique! That’s a great way to use up pieces of material that really can’t be used for bigger items! I can imagine sewing through all those layers can be a struggle sometimes, but you did a great job! Thanks for sending in those photos!

Those pretty boxes from Joanne and even Michael’s are so well made, they can do double duty for a lot of things! Great idea, Joy!

Maybe we will see snow tonight and tomorrow like they are saying. I hope the dolls on the way to their homes don’t get caught up in it!

  3. Karen from Kentucky

I love the purse! It has pretty colors and cool pictures and interesting pockets! The little doll closet is neat, too!

Thanks for posting yesterday. It was neat that you gave us a post saying that you weren’t going to do a post (but we got a post anyway ๐Ÿ™‚ ) I hope you will feel better soon. <3

I saw that photo of the box on another site and do not know the person who made it, but thought it would be a fun craft. I have seen the boxes at Joann’s, but they are also available at other craft places like HL and Michael’s. They come in lots of colors/patterns too. I was thinking that it would be a cute photo prop/background as well as useful too. Maybe paint the rod to match and add some scrapbook paper to cover a storage box at the bottom for shoes? or it might even store a doll as well as her clothing. I think a tiny doll would appreciate one in a small size too.
Hope Jeanne rallies and can join the force again soon. ๐Ÿ™‚

The person who had a doll missing in the mail for a year and found out she had been inadvertently put in a pantry closet was not me. Maybe it was Paula? Not sure. I would love to hear that story again. ๐Ÿ™‚

I keep thinking it was Suzette who found her long lost doll in a Swiffer WetJet box in her pantry..

        1. Yes, it was me that had an Ebay ordered doll put away in a Swifter WetJet box in our cost/storage closet for a year. The biggest mystery in my life!! My dear son thought he was helping by putting the โ€œnewโ€ swifter away for me. I still laugh at that!

          1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Paula, thanks so much for solving that mystery. Whenever I cannot find a doll (honestly I think that they hide from me sometimes), I think of your story and chuckle.

I am so glad you shared the story. I never know what fun stories I will hear while sitting on Jeanne’s sofa.

  5. Beautiful purses, Charlotte. I love the bright and cheerful fabric you chose.
What a fun storage idea, Joy,
Hope you’re feeling somewhat better, Jeanne, and getting lots of rest.

    1. Glad to know you are feeling a bit better, Jeanne. Take it easy and donโ€™t rush it.

Charlotte, how I admire people who can sew. Your purses are pretty and a great way to use up scraps of material unless you bought the material just for the look of the handbags. They look like the perfect purse to carry all the needful things we girls like whether it be out running errands or for a special look.
      Thank you for sharing.
At least your girls are closer- although who can figure out the hold up on delivery?

Joy, the box idea is great- so glad you sent a picture. I love those boxes and have used them for putting doll clothes in also but not like the one shown in the picture. Great idea! I put a few special Christmas decorations in a couple of those boxes for extra protection in the Christmas bins. One is a beautiful holly print box from Home Goods. I canโ€™t resist those boxes and have several. So tonight youโ€™ll have your new dolls! Yay!

  6. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, we all hope that you are doing better now. You had so many projects throughout 2021 so you probably are due for a bit of a rest.

Don’t worry about us here on the sofa. We can talk among ourselves.

  7. Jeanne, I hope you are on the mend today. Thanks for thinking of us and providing entertainment anyway! Charlotte, those bags are exquisitely done! I bet your doctor loved her fish-themed one. The box/wardrobe is cute. I have a “problem” (according to hubby) with buying storage pieces, and containers of any ilk appeal to me. I do try to only buy clear containers and bins and rolling carts (long story), but USING them is a whole other story.

I have been absent because, among other things, I am awaiting further testing for an irregular mammogram. This is on top of worrying about hubby who, last May 1, had a brain bleed/stroke/emergency surgery that led to a 10-day stay in ICU and a summer of PT and recuperation. (He is all better now–back to teaching full-time. He did learn to stress less and enjoy life more). But life has been busy, to say the least. Whew!
