I REALLY miss my “jewelry maker!”

My goodness, you all were chatty today… I had some things I had to take care of and when I looked at the comments, there were 34! I had to stop for a few minutes and read through them…and found lots of chatter about names… (yes, I’m still debating about Freida’s name!) but I see we have more Ann’s than just about any other name… well, at least that’s what it looked like to me…

Barbara, I am so sorry about the loss in your family… We will lift your family up in prayer as you go through this difficult time.

Back to my title… I “really” miss my jewelry maker. So many times, if I needed something, I just went to Rebecca’s room, knocked softly on her door, and asked, “Is there any way you could make me a necklace for this outfit?”…and 9 times out of ten, she’d say, sure, what do you need? Well, I sure could have used her help today… I just wanted to find a simple charm or some kind of dangly piece of jewelry to make a necklace and put it on a chain or a strand of beads.

First off, I had a hard time finding what I wanted… I basically had 4 colors to pick from… coral, pink, lime green and white. I don’t really know if I have a theme to this set, but I just thought I’d know the “charm” when I saw it… well, after about the 5th time going around the 2 aisles at our Hobby Lobby, I realized I was spending WAY TOO MUCH TIME trying to find something, so I just went back to this leaf I had seen and picked it…I figured how hard could it be to run a strand of small gold beads and then loop this leaf onto the strand? Well, easier said than done… I forgot to pick up some magnetic clasps in gold, and so I had to use snaps on the ends… which is okay, but just not how Rebecca would have made it. Anyway, about 2 hours later, I had it done…

Then I decided since a few of you mentioned shortening the skirt, I’d do that…and raised it up probably 1/2″ or so.

I also took a few pictures of the “boot socks” as Joy, so appropriately called them… (not “calf leggins”) :o)

Freida was really getting into the modeling this evening…

I rebraided Freida’s braids and moved them a little bit forward and put three coral rubber bands on each braid.

Well, I’ll have to check in the morning and see if I think we are done… :o)

See you then,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Very cute! The leaf is perfect, I love that color on Freida! She does look like Liz Taylor except for the eyes. She is adorable!

    1. Thank you Sylvia,
I’m glad you like the necklace… Still debating about names… good grief… I didn’t think this would be so hard! :o)

My first thought was, yup, she’s wishing Rebecca was still there!! But you managed to put something together anyway! (Just be sure to put magnetic clasps on your list for next time! Haha)

My second thought was, hm, that leaf is hanging a little too low. But then I got to the picture of her with the jacket on, and I see why you made it that length–so the leaf would show! And it does pick up the color from the skirt nicely, and also keeps the outfit from looking too “Barbie pinkish”, so I think I do like it quite a lot.

    1. I think the next time Rebecca comes home, I’ll have her give me a few simple lessons on how to do things the way she did! I certainly did NOT!
If the winner wants to make the necklace shorter, they can just pull it down a little bit in the back… but yes, I wanted the leaf to show under all that fluff on the jacket.
      Thanks Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Very nice finish to the outfit, Jeanne, I too, thought the leaf was hanging a bit low, but then the picture with her wearing the jacket helped to show that it is in the perfect place! Maybe just pushing the necklace back a bit when not wearing the jacket would work for just the blouse and skirt. The color of the leaf is perfect, and I think that Freida is the perfect doll to show off those bright colors,

So your personal jewelry maker is no longer living with you, but now you might be able to add “jewelry maker” to your resume! You can make shoes, so why not jewelry too? I see no problem with that considering your artistic abilities

Those boot toppers are genius! The scalloped edge gives it a feminine vibe! You have a winner here!

    1. HI Linda,
Freida REALLY looks pretty in this in person… I took her outside to get some natural light pictures and she is stunning in the daylight… too bad it was such a cold day… we had to hurry!
I might be able to wing it but I’m NO REBECCA! She was SO good at it! I’m hoping for lessons for Mother’s Day! :o)
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

It looks like Freida got into momma’s jewelry box. 🙂 Seems a bit large to me, but the color matches the skirt perfectly.
Dawn arrived last evening under the cover of darkness escaping the prying eyes of other person and security lighting. Hoping to have a grand unveiling of her today. 🙂
I wonder what Susette has been up to? Haven’t heard from her in awhile.

Joy, you made me smile.. I won’t tell my dad because I’m hoping he starts down sizing his “collection “ mums the word!

Maybe he should do some pricing of the items and sell locally on Nextdoor or Craigs List. Just a thought. I’m with him. Some of those old electronics are priceless. I should know. We have most of my dad’s old HAM equipment and various stereo components. Some are worth a lot. 🙂

    2. HI Joy,
It was literally the only thing I could find yesterday… I did find one small lime green and black bumblebee, but it didn’t look right next to my fabric… right color… wrong motif!
Great save on getting Dawn in the door in the the dark! Now you’ll be hoping for more “after dark” deliveries! :o)
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

So Frieda is ready to go out looking for spring. If I could get out, I’d be looking for snow because it’s predicted and, from the looks of the sky, extremely likely.

Linda’s right — of course you can make the jewelry you want — the trick will be finding the supplies you’ll need, and then the hard part — finding a place to store them that’s easily accessible and out of your way. Making the jewelry you want should be much easier than making the shoes you want, and these gold boots are winners for sure, especially with the cute boot tops.

And there it is — the snow has started. I think there’s definitely time for another coat — and hat — and muff, and boots — and a snow shovel.

    1. HI Marilyn,
It was actually spitting snow as I was getting things ready to go outside. It only did that for about 30 minutes and none of it accumulated to anything… I’m still hoping that “maybe” we will get some snow and if we do, I’m going to make another coat!

I actually already do have a bead and jewelry findings drawer… just a small one, but I sure needed Rebecca’s stash for this girl!

I got a bunch of leather scraps from a lady and there is some silver and copper in there too… I am trying to get my pattern perfected. I made a drawing of the silver boots that came on Freida… I’d like to get my boots a little more streamlined in the middle section of her foot and not so boxy… we’ll see…

If it starts snowing here again, I’m dragging out my fur again… I’ll have to check our forecast…
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Stay safe and warm,
      blessings, Jeanne

  6. The leaf is very cute and pulls the outfit together nicely. It looks very bright and cheerful. The boot toppers and gold boots are very sweet. Freida looks pleased as punch with the outfit.

So sorry about your dizziness, Ingrid. My grandfather was tested for Ménière’s disease after experiencing dizzy spells, but then they went away, praying yours do, too.

    1. Ingrid B in Western NY

Hi Laura, thanks for your kind words. My dizziness is due to a bad sinus infection that involved my left ear. The infection is finally gone but my ear is still plugged, there’s no more pain but still lots of pressure. It’s causing dizziness. I feel nauseated when the room is spinning so the doctor gave me meds to help with the vertigo. Loved your suggestion about making my girls name necklaces. That would work wonderfully! Hope all is well with you.

    2. HI Laura,
Freida IS pleased with this set and was being a bit braggadocious about getting such a bright and fun set! I’m glad you like it too…
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

What a stunning and fun outfit! I’m not a big jewelry person myself even though I have a ton of it so I tend to not think of jewelry as a finishing touch to an outfit. So glad you do! The leaf, especially the color, really add a lot to the outfit. I’m sure there will be a bidding war on this one.

Thanks so much to everyone for your prayers for Shana and our family. Back in 1978 I lost a man I had been dating for six years right before Christmas. He was killed in an auto accident one morning on his way to work by a man who had a fight with his wife that morning and was driving like a fool. When I got the call from his brother I was at work. I equated it to walking full tilt into a brick wall. This has been another like experience. Sudden deaths leave so much hanging and are hard to process.

Jason (David’s son from his first marriage) has taken it the worst. He tried for years to reconcile the girls with their Dad, especially after their mother passed away a few years ago, to no avail. So he blames himself that Shana passed away without his efforts reaching fruition. So David had to put aside his grief yesterday for a few hours to try to convince Jason it was never his job to repair family relationships. Jason created some of the problem himself after we got custody of him at seven and he started telling the girls and their mother lies about us. Years later when he tried to untell them, the girls didn’t want to hear it and sadly that never changed. David is a great dad and definitely deserves better.

It is a beautiful day here today. Considering how this week has been and the weather matched the mood, seeing the sun and blue sky is definitely uplifting to the spirit.

    1. You certainly added just the right color leaf. I see that the length is just right as well. Next pictures for the Auction. They will be cute…are you going to add hearts somewhere to tie it to Valentines Day?
Barbara, Hope your hubby and family will get through this awful time🥲❤️

      1. HI Kathie,
I’m glad you like the necklace… and my story line ties in with Spring AND Valentine’s Day… It’s going on Ebay in about an hour…
        Thanks so much,
        Blessings, Jeanne

    2. Thanks Barbara,
I’ve got quite a few of my mom’s necklaces and yet, so many times I forget to put one of them on when it would look great with something… I think I’m kind of like you in that way.

I am so sorry about your family going through this… It’s rough and I hope you AND your hubby will find solace in the arms of the Lord. He loves to carry us when we can’t even walk on our own…

Thanks for still taking time to check in with us…
      Blessings, Jeanne

    1. HI Ingrid,
It has been scheduled to go on Ebay in about an hour… Who’s next? Who knows… I guess I better figure that out!
      Thanks Ingrid!
      Blessings, Jeanne
