Another few hours in my sewing room… Freida is thrilled!

I managed to do a little more sewing today… Freida is now wearing a coral colored fuzzy jacket to go with her white peasant top and coral and white print skirt. This isn’t a faux “fur” but just a fuzzy fabric that makes the most wonderful jackets.

It’s just a loose fitting jacket that is open in the front. The lining is made from tulle which makes it as light as a feather… no bulk and no tugging to get it on. Just put the dolls arms facing backward behind her and slide it on… ]

I’ve also started another “item” for this set and hope to have it finished by tomorrow to show you…no hints but you won’t want to miss it! :o)

See you tomorrow,
I’m heading to bed…
Blessings, Jeanne

OH, how pretty! I can’t imagine what else you can add that would make this outfit any more lovely! Freida is drooling all over the keyboard as we speak!

Update: I ***FINALLY*** finished the smocked dress for Delaney, one of my Little Darlings dolls. I will try to get some pictures taken and posted by the end of this week (I/we have several appts)

I looked over yesterday’s replies, and have replied to some of them. Paula, Joy and Barbara–I replied to each of you. (Barbara, I included some info on your grandma’s names.) Ingrid, it’s good to see you back on the list; hope you will be back to full health soon!!

I think Anne said something about some kind of trip or vacation or something, so that may be why we haven’t heard from her in the last few days. I hope I’m remembering correctly, and it’s nothing serious!!

Jeanne, I am glad you have are feeling well enough to sew. This is just the right combination of Valentine and cold weather. The coral looks lovely with Freida’s complexion. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings.

Charlotte, I would love to see your smocked dress on Delaney. The Little Darlings are so well suited to smocked dresses. I believe it is their sweet expressions.

We are still very cold here in North Carolina with the threat of more of the white stuff on Friday. I personally have seen enough this winter.

Reading daily, posting some days. We are still unpacking and updating so the girl talk is just the right distraction. All doll boxes have found a new home but display furniture has been repurposed for now so I am enjoying reading about and looking at all of your doll scenes.

    Stay well everyone!

I thought the fuzzy pink over the puffy sleeves might make Freida look like the world’s daintiest football player, but it worked! Congratulations. Now for some fuzzy pink boots.

We are getting heavy snow here, but the flakes are tiny so there not a lot of accumulation.
    stay warm, everyone.

Hmmm. I’m thinking maybe a pair of shoes or boots to go on Freida’s feet? You must be so happy to be back sewing. Yay!

Ingrid. What’s the latest on that house you showed us?

    Anne, hope you’re ok.

Alina. Is all well with you?

Debbie, still unpacking? As my DIL would say, “Uffda!” Stay warm and hope a generator is in your future!

This is how I live, but with us, i.e. in Poland, 10% of the population in quarantines. Fortunately, Omikron bypasses me, but there are also other diseases. My dolls have more and more sweaters and dresses. I don’t have time to sew. I am glad that Jeanne is already recovering, maybe she will inspire you to new sewing. Greetings.

Hi Sally, It is complicated. There is a pass through between the kitchen and dining area that has to be closed in to make room for the china cabinet. Then…I will be able to empty all the boxes. I did tear into a tall box yesterday looking for plates. We have been using the same 2 plates for 8 weeks! Enough! Let there be plates!

Humm. Maybe Freida needs a belt? or something to tie everything together? The colors do match, but the textures are off to me. But, that is just me. I can’t see a hat for Valentine’s Day, but maybe something light made of ribbons? Of course, if you have snow, then it would all work for an outdoor scene. Freida wears pink so well. Love the colors.
Pulled weeds yesterday, and you would never know it. So many more to go. Other person cut back bushes. I have to be out there, or I wouldn’t have any flowers this year with the way the wacker attacks plants. 🙁 When we were done for the day, it was mentioned that concrete would be nice. Ack!!

Loving this jacket, can’t wait for tomorrow. Another name suggestion “Francie”? Keeps the Fr beginning and adds fancy. Close to Francesca. And Remember Dear Abby and her twin Ann Landers whose name was “Eppie”.
Have a good day all and bundle up.

Oh how pretty Freida looks in these colors, Jeanne! I think fuzzy pink boots would be nice too, but is the hem on the dress finished? It might have to be a bit shorter to snow off the boots. Also have to make sure the boots, if you do make any, don’t look like slippers! But good save with that jacket! This can be so versatile as a winter or spring/summer outfit.

I’m still liking Francesca for her name. Have you decided yet?

Brrr, it is cold out this morning! Winter has us all in it’s grips!

  8. Glad to see you back, Ingrid, and hope you’re on the mend. As to remembering your girl’s names… I just thought that you could buy alphabet beads and make them each a necklace to wear.

I do recall Anne was going on some sort of vacation, so I hope that’s why she’s MIA.

Freida looks lovely in that pink jacket . It’s a great color choice for her. Looking forward to what she gets next.

Sun shining brightly and makes the snow look like it has diamonds all over it. beautiful! We got ourselves plowed out yesterday and then received about three more inches overnight.

    1. Love the pink jacket on Frieda! Her whole outfit is adorable. Wonder how you’ll finish it. She really is a beautiful doll. I think her hair is a bit too long but it looks better with two braids.

    2. Love your reference to seeing diamonds in the snow! Adrian sent me a video of the snowfall yesterday. While the sun wasn’t shining for diamonds, the snowflakes were huge! Loved it.

    3. Barbara in SE Texas

We have some friends (David’s childhood friend) who just moved to Ohio from North Carolina. They couldn’t resist sending us a picture of their backyard covered in snow. So beautiful.

  9. That pink jacket is just the right color for her. It makes a darling Valentine themed outfit…so she may need something heart shaped for an accessory? ❤️🥰
Had a zoom doll meeting and watched a video by Florence Theirault showing French Juneau and other French dolls. It is worth your time and so educational. I wish I was more techy to put a link but if you go to the Theriaults site on UTube there are 5 videos that are wonderful. She describes the dolls, the dresses, the history and the manufacturers. The dolls are from the sale called
“One thing leads to another” Wonderful videos to watch on a cold snowy day!

    Hello all
Jeanne I love the pink outfit I am looking forward to seeing your ‘surprise’.

Sorry I have been MIA yes we did go on holiday, we went down south to Dunedin and then on to The Catlins which is a particularly picturesque part of NZ., especially the beaches. I must send some photos. The weather wasn’t the best in Dunedin and it didn’t help that the car was out of action from Tuesday to Friday night and we left Saturday morning. It turned out to be an electrical fault in the starter motor. The auto electrician they finally sent it to found the fault and fixed it straight away but they didn’t send it there until Friday afternoon. Wednesday the weather was really nasty, lots of showers but all were heavy rain and a very cold wind so had to stay cooped up in the motel room, Thursday was better so used public transport to get to the museum and spent the afternoon there, Friday Ashley and Sam went to the beach. Saturday and Sunday were glorious which is just as well as there isn’t much to do in The Catlins if it rains! We spent Sunday afternoon at Purakaunui Falls. I must get Sam to send her photos to me so I can share them. Ashley loved it. My hip was playing up badly so wasn’t sure I would make it to the bottom as it was pretty steep but it wasn’t too bad so long as I took my time. It was a good path (not quite enough hand rails especially near the bottom, Had to use the odd tree to hold on to in some places! The falls are so pretty (don’t think Niagara, they are nothing like that lol). We would love to go again and spend longer in the area.

Yesterday we went into Red on our new traffic light system. We now have Omicrom in the community. That means no gatherings of more than 100 people (the PM has had to cancel her wedding). we have to wear a mask everywhere except at home unless eating and drinking), Children over 4 have to wear masks as well, including at school (previously they didn’t have to). We also have to show our vaccine passes everywhere except retail stores. Technically no one should be able to go to pubs, cafes or restaurants (or any other public events) without a vaccine passport and it is a $20000 fine for businesses who don’t follow the rules. We do have over 90% of the population double vaxed now so hopefully that will help keep the hospital numbers down. I had my booster yesterday (left me feeling very tired) Sam will get hers today or tomorrow and Ashley is booked in for Saturday for her first jab. She has to go to the Doctor for hers as she is under 12. I’m over this (along with the rest of the world!!!). At the moment the cases are confined to the North Island and the far north of the South Island but I guess it won’t be long before it gets down here.

If you remember I was saying that my cat Luna wasn’t coming into the house at all after Sam moving in with two more cats and a dog. Well she does seem to remember now that this is her house and where she gets fed, however she doesn’t seem to have forgiven me for letting this happen. She won’t let me stroke or pet her, never sits on my lap or sits with me on the chair, has only slept on the bed once (but that might be more that it is summer, the once was when it was raining) though she does sleep on Sam’s bed sometimes even when Snowy is on the bed.. She is eating well so that is a relief and Gizmo doesn’t seem to worry her as much. I try to give her one of the tubes of cat treats every day, she loves them and comes running as soon as she sees it in my hand but as soon as it is finished she jumps off and won’t let me stroke her. I find it very sad she used to be such an affectionate cat. Ah well she might come round eventually.

I’d better get on and start my day. Louis will need his walk.

Your trip sounds absolutely delightful in spite of the weather. I’ve had friends that once lived in NZ and they always said it was a beautiful place to live.

    2. Joy in northern CA

So sorry about the Omicron. It’s everywhere and doesn’t want to go away. 🙁
Your trip seems to have had ups and downs, but I’m sure it will be well remembered. Hope to see the photos.
Sure sounds like your kitty is trying to punish you. I’m sure she will come around. They don’t take well to changes do they? Keep up the treats. If anything, that will work. 🙂

I love the addition to Freida’s outfit. Can’t imagine what else you will put with it but I’m waiting with anxious anticipation. So glad you are back on your feet and apparently staying there.

Glad to hear that Anne was just off having a good time, in spite of the weather, and nothing more. I was concerned that the volcano/tsunami may have put paid to that. I still can’t wrap my head around what is where in New Zealand. I need to get back to doing some research.

Thanks, Charlotte, for your name research. I always check the comments from the previous day before I go on to today. I find I miss a lot by not doing that. You mentioned the name Leotie, my grandmother’s nickname was Odie. I always thought it was Otie because my grandfather called her “Oat”, but I’ve been in touch with a cousin who still lives in PA and she had a note from my grandmother signed “Aunt Odie”. I did discover that Leota is a derivative of a German name and my grandmother’s mother’s family were German so it may have come from the family. I’ve learned a lot about her family but when it came to names, they’re all over the map. It could have come from her mother’s BFF.

I was named after a good friend of my mothers, my sister Beth was named after my mother’s Godmother, my next sister was named after a friend my mother worked with while an Army nurse. Thus we had Barbara, Beth, and Beatrice but my parents wanted to keep the “B” trend with my youngest sister. Our neighbor and my sister’s Godmother was named Betty Jean. Everyone called her B.J.. Since Beth’s full name is Elizabethanna (I would have loved this one), but she was Beth because my mother didn’t want her called Liz, Betty was out so my sister became Beverly Jean (aka Little B.J.). She ended up being the only “B” my parents did deliberately. As for Liz, well my sister (whose floors you can eat off today) was the worst roommate ever. I was a neat freak and she was my alter ego so I nicknamed her Lazy Lizzie. The name no longer fits so she is once again Beth, one of my favorite names but I don’t have one doll with that name. Guess I will just have to buy another doll.

I would really love to see Charlotte’s Delaney’s smocked dress. I have several dress patterns for smocking and I have done some in the past, so I really need to pick one and just get to it. Once started I’m fine, it’s the getting started that is sometimes a problem.

The weather here is cold and rainy some days and cold and sunny others, but mostly it’s been a pretty tolerable winter. I hope to someday live once again where there is snow, but that is probably a few years away. So I’ll just live vicariously through those of you who do.

Dawn is coming tomorrow! The doll that is. I haven’t heard a word since RRFFToys let me know she had shipped. This afternoon, there was an update from UPS that they were delivering her tomorrow. Must stage a plan for her arrival! 🙂

  13. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, I am glad you are doing better.

The outfit is perfect for her coloring. I don’t think she is going to want to give it up. You may have to come up with a bribe (laugh).

    Hi jeanne,
I guessed correctly … loving the fuzzy jacket… so adorable. This is going to be quick because the room is spinning. Taking Meclizine twice daily but it’s not working right now

Sally, the house is still available and hubby is very interested. When I talked to mom and dad earlier this month they said they would like to see it. With me still under the weather they dont want to be around me. Wonder what they will do when we are under the same roof. My parent are germophobes!

    Hugs
    Ingrid
