A sneak peek at the guest room…

Rozen is still in the red plaid dress, laying on my cutting table and Kendall is laying nude beside her. I may take another look at her buttons…and Joy, the shoes they were sharing are a pair of shoes I used for Nyssa. They are too big in the heels for each doll but when you look at them from the front, they aren’t too noticeable.

Usually when I have something to show, I like to wait until it’s done or almost done. I’m not quite finished in the guest room but decided I’d show you anyway…

I don’t have any pillows on the bed and the two dressers I’m using are still piled with things I might use… this would be a piece of cake for my sisters, Cindy and Deb… but I don’t have their decorating gene.

Oh, before I forget, my sweet sister, Cindy, sent me an Amaryllis in the mail today. In about 3-6 weeks it will bloom into the prettiest flower…I’ll keep you posted! :o)

The biggest change in the room since you last saw it is the rug. I found it at Ross’ and Cindy helped me pick it out all the way from Pennsylvania…(using my phone!) It has little blue flowers in the design and looks really pretty with the aqua blue-like quilt.

I got the absolutely humongous pillow shams cut down to a normal sized pillow and made new ones that fit the bed now.
I have never seen such huge shams in my life. You can see how big they were with the one I made smaller on top. The shams weren’t cut to be mirror images of each other from the factory, so I could only make them like this…not exactly alike, but it’s the best I could do…

I decided to use a flash on my camera and finally captured the color of the quilt better. Here the shams are on the bed looking much better. Now for some pillows…

I had a piece of upholstery fabric (Cindy sent it to me) upstairs that I brought down to use at the foot of the bed until I can find one that’s in my price range. (uh… that would be “budget!”) I’ve gone over already in here, but I have enjoyed making it into a pretty room for guests. I’ll just have to sell more dresses! :o)

I had a couple of wedding pictures enlarged and put them in frames…and George bought some Dove chocolates and put them in a basket I had sitting in the room. (Who says he can’t decorate?)

See you Monday,
Blessings, Jeanne

Your guest room is turning out beautifully, Jeanne!! It’s funny, but in a couple of the pictures, the colors look a little washed out to me, but in the next-to-last one I can see the rich colors in the rug, and how the “throw” at the end of the bed accents the colors in the rugs. Some day you will find the right throw for it, but for now, this looks really wonderful. Good job!

Oh, I meant to add: Anne, when you look at the possible side-effects for the tablets the doctor gave you, keep in mind those are only POSSIBLE side effects! Most people don’t get any of them at all, but when drugs are tested prior to being approved for use (at least here in the US), they are required to list every side effect that anyone testing the drug experienced–even if only one person experienced it!

I for one am very thankful for medications that our doctors prescribed; I’ve taken thyroid since I was 9 (and I’m 75 now), and have added several others since then. My husband now takes several meds, too. Yes, I do read thru the possible side effects when I get the information from the pharmacy, and try to keep them in mind, just in case (and I do keep the info to refer to, also), but for the most part, there’s only one med I had to stop because of side effects (and three due to allergies, but that’s different).

Looking good. I might suggest leaving space on the desk and bookcase for guests to put their phones, keys and other small items. The shams must have been made for a king-size bed. Nice job. Itโ€™s now a very inviting room. Have a wonderful time with Rebecca, Karn and Kristopher.

The rug is beautiful, Jeanne and anchors the bed so well! Everything is really coming together and like Susette, I would go with less on the table and bookcase next to the bed, for the visitors to put their things. Too many little things give it a cluttered look.

I’m kind of confused about the guest bedroom! Was it Rebecca’s old room, or another room altogether? Then you also have the sitting room?

Have a wonderful visit with family, and know that we will still be here when you decide to come back, if you take off at all.

    1. Hi Linda
Yes, the guest room is Rebecca’s old room…when you are standing at my kitchen sink, turn left and go down the hallway. The first room on the right is the bathroom, then a few steps past it is our bedroom on the left and my hubby’s office just across the hallway on the right. Back out in the hallway a few steps and you are in the big open sitting room…at the end of the sitting room is the guest room on the left…the big picture window is on the right and my little computer nook is on the same wall as the big window at the end of the house.

I had a quilt that grew faded but was otherwise fine. I took 2 flat sheets and made a cover — actually 2 of them. so I could change the look with the seasons. It’s hard to find an ideal quilt but easy to find pretty sheets. It’s much easier tostore 2 quilt covers than 2 quilts.

In the AG world, it’s time for Wool Week, a celebration of wool and traditional sheep breeds put together by Sarah and Elizabeth Garcia and their mother, Janis. The Garcias have 40-plus dolls and do an elaborate set up of fair booths. This year Sarah said they took 2500 photos — and I thought Jeanne sometimes went overboard. The story will run for 16 days on AG Dollhouse and AGPT, but also on the Islandshire Gazette https://islandshiregazette.weebly.com/buntys-wool-shows/wool-week-2021-part-1-off-to-a-bad-start
which is open to all. The series is full of cute details. In the first chapter, note Eliot’s stocking feet (he’s ready for an easy day) compared to Bunty’s “never-stop-working” shoes. The TV screen shows Pride and Prejudice.
Here on Jeanne’s blog, we mostly enjoy period clothes. Wool Week features contemporary casual on, in many cases, customized dolls. This year two of my dolls are attending. Watch for my Carlotta (Evette) and Georgiana (a duplicate of the M-G Sarah customized for me). One of my favorites is Mabel, a customized light Addy-mold.

I love your idea for the sheet quilt covers and it would allow me to buy more sheets. I see so many pretty ones. This idea would be perfect for my guest room. I always liked the idea of seasonal decor, but the storage would be a nightmare since I have no attic or basement for storage. Your idea would definitely solve the problem.

Thanks for the link. I will be checking it out and watching for Carlotta and Georgiana.

So, thanks for the shoe info. I was under the impression that their feet were not exactly the same size. Is that true? The Wellie wider and RRFF longer. When you ever get a chance, I’d like to see their feet together with measurements in mm. It is very hard to buy shoes because those advertised as fitting both often do not. ๐Ÿ™
Love the rug. It looks like browns, but maybe gray? The blue flowers are beautiful too. Perfect choice. Will you have regular pillows underneath the Ashley decorative ones for guests? Because, some here, were discolored from hair products. Then where do the decorative ones and throw go while the bed is in use? A chair? Bench? Floor? Just from experience at our place, everything ends up in a pile on the floor. ๐Ÿ™‚ I agree about leaving space by the bed on tables for accessories and maybe a glass of water. ๐Ÿ™‚ George’s candy is a special touch. Love the room remake. I’m sure guests will enjoy the amenities. ๐Ÿ™‚
The amaryllis here, just like yours, from last year is still sitting on the table and puts out some new green every once in awhile. I did harvest the seed pods and do need to get them planted in the garage soon. They can’t take the cold outside here. Probably should release the poor thing from it’s wax home, but I never seem to have time. ๐Ÿ™‚
Bad me. A new RRFF girl is headed here. Going to take some time for her arrival, but here’s a hint. She’s a redhead and not Rozen or Stella. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Sally from Colorado

Sitting here scratching my head, wondering who this redhead might be that is coming from afar?? Gee, Joy, the way the postal service is operating these days, more and more, sometimes the next town over if โ€œfrom afar.โ€ Canโ€™t wait. Meanwhile, By the Sea kiddos are coming in last week, this, and next. Mine will be here next, supposedly. The other special editions will be here later this month or by the middle of next. The fate of poor Alice? On a container ship somewhere. Maybe seasick. ๐Ÿ˜ข

      1. Joy in northern CA

Can’t wait to see those By the Sea kids. They are so fun. And poor little Alice. Hope she brought along her seasick medication. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve already heard that the redhead is in the mail system. I’m estimating three to four weeks, but with the holiday package crunch, probably longer. I think that mine might be airsick rather than seasick though. Or so I hope. ๐Ÿ™‚

The picture of the bed pillows really shows off the pretty color. Guests will be so comfy in that room. I would stand in the doorway and just smile at the wonderful job you have done. ๐Ÿค—

    1. Hi Kathie,
Silly me, I have been standing at the doorway looking at the room more times than I care to tell…

Your guest room is looking cozier every day. I love the rug! The pillow shams look great. I’m assuming the bed is a double bed so king size shams would have definitely not worked. I like your “throw” at the foot of the bed. Really adds color. I have a book on making quilted runners for the foot of the bed. My guest room bedspread is off-white purposely bought so the seasonal runners I make would not clash. Well that was the plan a few years ago but I never got any of them even started. I have a folded quilt from the previous decor at the foot now. Maybe I’ll try Marilyn’s idea and cover it with sheets.

  9. Jeanne, the rug looks beautiful with the bedspread. The third picture from the bottom does it justice in the colors. What a lovely warm and inviting room.
Sometimes it takes awhile to find the right pictures for the wall, but Iโ€™m sure youโ€™ll find some if you and Cindy havenโ€™t already.
I have an L shape closet that has a nice and sturdy bench where our guests put their suitcases and bags on. I forget the layout of your room but if you have room, a bench or collapsible suitcase rack would be an idea.
The whole room is coming together. You and George have done a great job. His chocolate doves are a very sweet touch too!

  10. Sally from Colorado

Jeanne, this guest room is very, very inviting. I like the way George thinks, too!

I agree, though, that the bedside tables need fewer things on them to make them more useable for guestsโ€ฆwater glass, tissues, chocolates/mints, and I would recommend a small lamp on each. Very often one person wants to read in bed. And if room, a chair is helpful as is a folding luggage rack. Still, congratulations on getting this together so nicely. ๐Ÿ‘

As so many suggested, why donโ€™t you shut down this coming week and maybe toss us some family pics of the visit and holiday on the 29th? Just slow down a bit to enjoy the moments with family and with yourself. ๐ŸŒบ We will all just do fine. ๐Ÿ˜Š
