I finally have a pretty bedroom window…

Let’s do like I did yesterday and show something dolly related since this is “supposed” to be a blog about sewing for dolls… This time the seamstress is Sissy… She knew I was busy and wasn’t able to sew…so she sent me something to share. (I can’t even stand in front of my cutting table because a twin box spring and mattress is in there while we are working on the bedroom…)

Sissy sent a photo with 3 of her dolls modeling their Summer Romper outfits. She got the pattern on Pixie Fair, and it was for AG dolls, so she had a lot of work changing the pattern 3 times to fit My Meadow dolls, 20” Ardyn, 18” Bailey, and 15” Mae, which was the hardest one.

It is a really cute pattern, but she said the ruffles flair out so much she had to add panties underneath for modesty, LOL! Then she also added the hair bow ties. The girls in the sea shell print are carrying buckets of shells she picked up on beaches in Florida. Ardyn’s print is sea creatures and she has a little wooden fish that matches her colors.

Thank you Sissy… they are SWEET, SWEET, SWEET!

If you click on any picture, it will enlarge.

Okay, now back to the home improvement project at hand… Several of you commented that the walls looked beige so I did a quick google and found this picture, which explains it pretty well. The big window in the bedroom faces west, so the sunlight that comes in is making the color look a bit on the beigy side…but when you look at the wall opposite the window it has more of that warm gray color to it… however my phone just can’t quite capture the color. I just know I love how it looks when I walk into the room now. VERY MUCH! :o)

We finished the second coat on the walls this morning and let it dry while we took measurements for the window trim… and yes, you’re right…we measured 2 or 3 times before we cut… my hubby had most of the wood in his “stash” (kind of like my fabric stash…you never know what you might find in there!) :o)

First cut was from a piece of 1/4″ luan plywood… it had to be thin on the sides to accommodate the faux wood blinds I have for the window. The windows were slanted at the tops and bottoms so we had to make them level…

Just adding that luan made a 100% difference in the way they looked.

When we got the top and sill boards cut and nailed in, I almost cried… It was actually going to happen… after all these years of living with the window the way it was when we put it in, it was now smooth and almost pretty…

Next I primed it…

I tried to show you the true colors of the walls in this picture by lightening it… but now it looks too cold… it’s a very warm gray color…

We got the trim boards cut for the window and they have been primed and painted…

Since it was “ONLY” 10:30, I decided my primer was dry and so I painted my window the first coat of Snowbound… It’s looking awfully sweet to me! :o)

So tomorrow the trim will most likely go up and my hubby wants to start on the floor! I might not be able to contain myself when I see that go down… 17 years of walking on plywood and now I’m getting new vinyl plank flooring! Be still my heart! :o)

Tomorrow I’ll share 2 pictures from Dorothy, who just got back from the UFDC (Doll Convention) in Baltimore.

Well, this painter is pooped and that bed in my sewing room is calling my name!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Charlotte Trayer, north of Seattle,

First of all, thanks to everyone for your lovely comments about my girls’ new dresses. Sally, the counted cross-stitch/pulled thread thing is a little centerpiece, but I also have a card table-sized table cloth done the same way. I think it was in a box of stuff a lady in my dad’s church gave me years ago, when she heard my girlfriend and I were planning to get our first apartment–back in 1970! I’ve had it practically forever! Both pieces really are lovely, and, although I do do counted cross-stitch, I can’t take credit for these.

Kathie, I like the shorter length, too–may have to make some “grow tucks” in that longest dress! I don’t think I want to try picking off the ribbon and redoing the hem!

Dorothy, thanks for the link to the UFDC Facebook page. I just clicked on a picture that was posted, started clicking that right arrow, and clicked my way thru a bajillion pictures! Such fun!! I saw a Molly in the pilot’s outfit (which I also own), as well as a blonde ponytail Barbie in the “Busy Gal” outfit (ditto–and I even still have the fashion sketches!).

Sissy, those rompers are just adorable! I also had to alter a pattern–the dress pattern I used for the RRFF dresses you saw yesterday was designed for a doll more the size of the Little Darlings, so I adjusted it. Since it’s a fairly simple pattern, it was pretty straightforward to alter.

Oh, Jeanne, your window is looking SO Pretty!! I can understand happy tears. You have waited a long, long time for this, girl!!

Dear Charlotte, I am glad you had a chance to look at the photos. The convention was so much fun. I did a Google search to see how far St. Louis is from PA. It’s only 12 hours. Maybe I can convince some of my club members to drive there for next year’s convention.

      Wishing you a lovely week.

Dear Jeanne, your window transformation is amazing! I watch the decorating shows and I like to see what they do. You are showing us a more detailed version and it is wonderful to get the actual step-by-step instructions.

When all of your renovations are completed, I think you should have a house warming. I think that would make your house (and you) smile.

Oh, Sissy, your Meadow girls in their shell collecting outfits look like they just arrived directly from the beach. Adorable. Thanks Sissy and Jeanne for sharing. 🙂
Isn’t it amazing what light and time of day will do for paint colors. I think Agreeable Gray is a great choice along with the Snowbound for the trim. Every time I hear that name, it makes me think of the time long ago when a train was stuck in the snow for several days in the Sierra’s until rescuers could snowshoe in and dig out the train. 🙂
Another plus for the room remodel is the lovely finishing of the window interior. Can’t wait to see the trim installed too. I’m almost positive that the newly trimmed window will help with saving energy as there shouldn’t be any places left for cold/hot air to enter your room. Keep up the good work!
Annaelle arrived yesterday morning. Love her blush colored outfit, but she might need a slip as the skirt is so sheer. Although, she said that it keeps her very cool on warm days. 🙂
Trying to get in a little sewing done each day. Working on outfits for the RRFF kids, but there just isn’t enough time to do much. Jeanne, however always has time for everything. Or so it seams. (Intentional misspelling) 🙂

Those little sunsuits are just adorable, Sissy! I absolutely love the ruffles and the hair bows.
The fish and buckets of seashells are perfect accessories.

Your window is going to be just lovely, Jeanne. I’m sure you can hardly wait to have the whole room finished.

  5. Barbara in SE Texas

I love the adorable rompers on Sissy’s three girls. I know they had a wonderful time on the beach collecting sea shells in their little buckets. I thought Ardyn might need a bucket too for her fish, but then I remembered it was wooden.

Jeanne your finished window trim is going to really complete your bedroom. I’ve experienced the thrill of completed window trimming myself. When we put the new windows in our house several years ago my husband and his work crew did the work but it seems no one had any intentions of doing the inside finishing work. Finally I guess I fussed so much it was done to quiet me down. But when it all was finished I made sure to make a big fuss over how nice it looked.

It looks like my bathroom vanity is nearing completion and thus the bathroom that has been in flux for about twenty-five years will finally reach fruition. My new bathroom flooring will be installed along with the vanity and I’m really excited about that. It matches my kitchen and breezeway flooring. My study (off the kitchen) will have the same flooring hopefully soon now that I’ve tidied up the room so moving furniture is not so big a deal. Then my next project for Sean and David is the louvered doors on the double-wide pantry in my kitchen. They need painting and the latches installed. That will pretty much complete the kitchen.

Looks like you’re getting close to moving your bedstead out of the sewing room, but I can’t imagine a nicer place to hang out while you’re updating your bedroom. You sewing room is a very special place on its own.

Sissy your rompers are outstanding! I’ve got to start remembering to check that pattern site on Fridays☺️ Your choices of fabric are so perfect too.
The luan plywood made a HUGE difference in the look of the window. Looks like a brand new house and white trim will be so pretty next to the agreeable gray. This room is coming along so quick…but then you have done similar work in other rooms and re almost professionals. Once the floor is finished you will be….dare I say “done?”

  7. Susette from Southern California

The rompers are so cute and the sizes and expressions on the dolls’ faces really suit their “ages.” The fabric patterns are so cute.

I’m glad your house will finally be finished soon. The color for walls years ago was Swiss Coffee. Anyone remember that? I guess I’m showing my age!
