Caulking and Spackling and Trim, Oh My!

I think I was going to show a couple of pictures from Dorothy in PA, but I totally forgot! So… I will show them today! She went to the UFDC (United Federation of Doll Clubs) and had a wonderful time!

If you missed her link to the UFDC on Facebook, you can see it here again…

This was Dorothy’s email to me…

“I am attaching a photo that you might want to share with the Sofa Sisters. I asked my friend Ed from Happily Ever After if he would let me take a photo that I could share. He agreed. I told him how much the group likes his dollies.”

Thanks Dorothy, I have chatted with Ed online and it’s nice to put a face with that name… He was always wonderfully nice to me. It looks like he is holding a 14″ or so Ten Ping doll with Yu Ping on her back… Do you know what doll that is?

Then Dorothy shared another picture…
“A friend and I went to a tea room called Emma’s Tea Spot. I took a photo of my travel doll Safia (in the pink dress on the left) and my friend’s travel doll Julie Ann.”

That looks like a delicious, I mean delightful place to visit! Thanks Dorothy!

Today was kind of a wrap up day… my hubby put in 5 new outlets (he had already gotten the wires ready to be attached) and 2 new light switches in the room…

…then we started on the trim around the window…(my walls are wavy, but not THIS wavy… I took a panoramic shot so you could see from wall to wall in the shot.) I like doing them like this, as it’s easier on people who struggle with angles and miter cuts… this farmhouse look works for both of us! :o) You can also see we didn’t get to the bifold doors yet…they look so creamy and a bit out of place in this new looking room. We didn’t get to the trim around the doors yet either… man this takes a long time for these little jobs!

Because we added that extra layer of new paneling, the wall pushed out a little bit farther than we thought it might… so it made the window trim about 1/4″ away from the window itself… no problem… my hubby just put a bead of caulk in this crack…

…and now they look like they were supposed to have this groove in them…

He put the glass cover back on the ceiling light, and then we started screwing the baseboard trim for around the floor. You can see it was getting dark. Yes, it was another long day… we stopped about 8:00…

Then he caulked (again) to fill in the cracks left by the (sort of wavy walls) and it looks wonderful and straight and hardly noticeable that it was ever crooked. Here’s a picture of his infamous caulk gun…

The nails holes around the window and baseboard were set with a nail punch and now the Spackle Queen does her thing… filling all those little holes and tomorrow they will be sanded lightly and touched up with paint.

The grates were wire brushed and then spray painted a bronze metallic paint and they look SO much better…

Joy mentioned what were we doing with the bathroom flooring…we remodeled the bathrooms in 2013… and here is a picture of the bathroom floor, but the lighting is really off in this picture. It’s a really nice thick linoleum by Mannington and it looks like tile… It has held up wonderfully and looks pretty nice with the new floor. The bar across the two is a sort of bronze color.

We are hoping to get some of the furniture moved in Thursday… I’m hoping to leave a few pieces out… but trying to decide how to do that… :o)

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

It looks wonderful Jeanne! Just those little touches make a BIG difference! Although I cannot for the life of me see gray on the walls, (it’s beige for me), I certainly think it is an improvement over the way it used to be! The trim around the windows and the floor finish it off so well.

I am anxious to see what you are going to do “without” in there! Any ideas on window covering yet?

Dorothy, you doll is darling, and what a fun time you must have had! Thank you for the pictures and the link to the convention!

I was so happy to hear from Ingrid on the blog yesterday! Take care, Ingrid and there are a lot of us pulling for you!

    1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Linda, I did have fun! I am already thinking about next year.

  2. Charlotte Trayer, north of Seattle,

First of all, thanks, Dorothy, for sharing those pictures! Yes, it’s nice to put a face with a name. I suspect the doll he’s holding is from the Ruby Red Galleria, rather than RRFF, but I didn’t see anything like hat on the Galleria web site. Maybe someone else can tell us?

The picture of Safia and Julie Ann is so sweet! I think we’d all like to help ourselves from the tray of goodies behind them!!

Jeanne, your bedroom is coming together so nicely! It’s going to be really beautiful when it’s done. I hope you’ll be able to get your bed moved back in there soon!! I’m sure sleeping in your sewing room (and George in his recliner) is getting old!!

I see the “reply” issue hasn’t been resolved yet; hopefully your computer gurus will be able to figure it out soon! Not to worry; I think we’re getting used to it being this way, but it’ll be nice when it’s back to normal again!

Dear Charlotte, I am not sure which two dolls are in the photo. I know they are from the Ruby Red Galleria line. I will find out from Ed.

I got a Lia from the line at a meal event but I am not going to keep her as I don’t collect those dolls.

The Madame Alexander Doll Club convention is in Spokane, Washington next year!

When oh when will the reply problem be fixed? I just lost my reply when I looked at Ed’s picture enlarged. Maybe that feature should be removed until the problem is repaired?? So, a quick reply. Good job on the redo. Almost there.
Thanks for the photo Dorothy. So neat to see the RRFF dolls behind. Wish I could have been there to nab one of the limited convention dolls.
If anyone is interested, Samantha’s Dolls has a limited new yesterday, RRFF Alice in Wonderland with a cute rabbit that is on preorder. So sweet.
So, after finishing the bedroom details and the move back in, what’s next? Flooring in the other rooms without? Just thinking ahead. 🙂
Still doing a little sewing as I can fit it in. Have two dresses done and an romper/overall. Working on a blouse to go with it. Finished Luca’s car shirt and shorts too. So many whiney dolls wanting a change in costume. 🙂

Dear Joy, many of the dolls went up for sale on ebay as soon as the convention ended. I bet you could find one now.

      1. Joy in northern CA

Many buy at conventions to resell. Pays for their convention. Thanks, I saw them on ebay. I believe that one was $500.00. More than I wanted to pay. I’m sure there will be others I like in the future at more reasonable prices, although, the girls and boy here are happy with their numbers. 🙂

    2. Theresa in Indiana

Oh, Joy, that Alice in Wonderland is adorable! If I hadn’t just gotten the limited Anaelle from RRFF, I would be very tempted! I never should have gotten on their mailing list… lol

It’s fun watching your bedroom reno evolution. It’s true that the “finishing touches” seem to take forever but they are so necessary. I’ll be glad to get the flooring in my study at some point so the threshold piece between the kitchen and study will finally be put on. But we’re getting closer. My son, Sean, is like me in not considering a project finished until all is truly done. We notice details. He’s invaluable in that regard. David likes doing the big challenging stuff but seems to lose interest when it’s time for the finer details. They make a great team.

I know Dorothy had a really fun time at the UFDC. Dorothy, thanks for sharing and thanks Jeanne for posting the pictures. They are great pictures. What kind of doll is Safia? She is lovely and a very manageable size for traveling. I’m sure she enjoyed the trip and the tea room and visiting with her friend Julie Ann. The goodies look so yummy. When we used to go to the Scottish Highland Games near Temple, TX, they had a tea room that served High Tea. Then one year we went and asked for High Tea and the owner hadn’t a clue. It was a new owner and they didn’t do that. Very disappointing.

I’ve completed organizing my study and my guest room and hope to get to my sewing machine next week. David and Sean will be leaving town to complete the job they’ve been working on that got put on hold due to rain. I plan on sewing from morning till night and only stopping when I feel the need for nourishment. I’ve got one dress cut out for my AGAT and another on the drawing board for my Paola Reina, Cleo. And I’m anxious to get to some other patterns I’ve recently bought. I can relate to what Joy is going through with the whiney dolls wanting new wearing attire. They can get noisy.

    1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Barbara, Safia is an 8-inch Madame Alexander doll, as is her friend Julie Ann. She is a great travel doll. She fits in a small travel case and she stands nicely on tables. Many folks have travel dolls (some quite big) and they take them along to conventions.

  5. Marilyn from Colorado

I loved Joy’s comment about her whiney dolls.

I’m on Happily’s email list — nice people — or person, if that’s the case. Seeing new dolls every week is interesting.

I agreed with Jeanne’s crossed out “delicious” about the picture with the tea tray — I’d like a description of the contents. Or just mail me the complete 3 tier tray,

You bedroom looks beautiful. Somehow we think of “painting the room” as painting it — we forget the time-consuming prep and the time-consuming finishing details. But we also forget how nice it is to have a dust-free, perfectly clean room. It’s going to feel so good to move back in.

Dear Jeanne, thanks for sharing my photos with the Sofa Sisters. I am happy to share doll information as I don’t craft or cook or sew (laugh).

Your windows are lovely. I like how the extra calking makes the windows look pretty.

  7. Debbie in Tennessee

Caulk King and Spackle Queen! Your bedroom looks amazing! I enjoy your home reno posts much more than the diy shows on cable. I shared the post of the floor going down with my son. He tells me he wants to put the new vinyl in his home. I wanted him to see exactly what is involved; your post will either convince him he can do this…or not. : )

Thank you for sharing Dorothy’s photos from the convention. Dorothy, Those By the Sea RRFF look so much better through your lens than the publicity photos. And thanks to Ed for allowing you to photograph him. He is a pleasure to do business with at Happily Ever After.

    1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Debbie, thanks for your kind words about my photographs. I am known for cutting off people’s heads (laugh).

Ed is a very nice guy. I just sent him an email to ask who the dolls were that he is holding. Duh on me, I should have asked that myself. I will make a comment when I have the information.
