A few more vintage hankies used as “aprons” for my dolls…

Welcome to June!
My yesterday was too long… my hubby “needed” me for lots of things and then I was packaging up all the slips sold and Stella’s romper. I need to write a post, but I didn’t get any sewing done, there are no cabinets left to paint, I didn’t take any pretty outside pictures, I’ve spent time doing things getting ready for the roofers (that “might” come this week or next!) and so I thought I’d just share a few more pictures of dolls in vintage hankies…

Kirsten might get the whole post to herself. I can’t begin to think how many dirndl’s I have made her using vintage hankies as her apron…

I hope you don’t mind seeing a few more of her…

I have at least 5 more sets of Kirsten, but for some reason I couldn’t get the pictures to transfer to my blog…

Sorry, but I’ve got to get to bed… this “hankie thing” will continue another time…

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

First of all, I need to clarify something. Yesterday I said Uncle Ed was killed in 1945, the year I was born. I’m sure my parents would have been surprised to read that! I was actually born the year After he died! Sorry about that! I should do better proofreading!

Hope everyone had a good weekend. I thought I’d share something I saw in a FB ad for our local sewing machine place: “Here’s wishing you a MEANINGFUL Memorial Day.” I like that, since on Memorial Day we are remembering “those who never made it out of their uniform”, which isn’t always a “happy” kind of day, in the traditional sense of the word.

What fun, to see more Kirsten outfits! I’m sure my Kirsten is going to be leaving notes as to what she’d like me to make for her next!! I think my favorites are the two in the first picture (esp. the right-hand one) and, of course, the blue plaid one. I didn’t remember seeing that first picture, but I do remember the plaid one, and how pretty I thought it was. My Kirsten is definitely a pink-and-blue girl, so I know she’d love it, too!

    1. HI Charlotte,
I hope you don’t get bombarded with notes from your Kirsten telling you she needs a new dress! That’s what lots of ladies tell me… their dolls want a “copy-cat” dress! :o)
I need to count all the hankies I’ve used JUST for Kirsten… it’s quite a few. Glad you enjoyed seeing the pictures today…and sorry it wasn’t more…

You are killing me, Jeanne, with all these absolutely darling outfits for Kirsten! Since I now have a Kirsten, they are really making me take notice of what she “really” needs!! I love the long puffed sleeves on some of the dresses, and yes, all those darling aprons!

That first apron is especially pretty, and the last two outfits are my favorites! I love the red and white outfit, it looks like a Christmas outfit to me, and the last one, with the blue and green plaid, reminds me of a skirt I had many moons ago with those very colors!

Wasn’t the weather so nice yesterday? We got a lot of work done in the yard, for one thing! Did a lot of sitting outside too, and barbecuing!

    1. HI Linda,
Well, I can honestly say, I really didn’t remember you were still in the honeymoon phase with your new Kirsten doll… I’m guessing you are really loving her? It sounds like it. She is such a pretty doll. When they made her, they got it right…
Yesterday was fabulous… unlike today, which is a total wash here! What an absolutely dreary day… I’m in my sewing room today… I think I earned it from yesterday. I didn’t get to bed until 5 minutes till 2:00… so that’s why the short post…
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Nice seeing Kirsten and some of her pretty outfits/aprons. I really like the first red/green outfits. Pretty for the holidays or anytime in winter.
Cooler today, happily, so the plants will be happier. Still trying to figure out how I want to decorate the dress I’m making from the sewalong. Of course, nothing here seems to work as I wish. Might have to head to Joann’s yet again. Want to get it done as the next pattern comes out on Thursday. Behind again.

    1. HI Joy,
That first picture was from a couple years and years ago… the hubby emailed me and wanted me to surprise his wife with some Kirsten dresses… I think I still might have the letter they wrote me when they received them. He had just bought her a Kirsten doll for Christmas and they were OVER THE MOON with those dresses… I’ll have to see if I can’t find that letter…
I looked up the Sew Along, but decided with the roof coming and already somewhat behind on things, I would have to pass this time…
      What’s an “extra” trip to Joann’s? :o)
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Dear Jeanne, wow, you really had a busy day. I hope you were able to get some rest.

    Happy June 1!

    1. HI Dorothy,
I DID have a busy day and didn’t get to bed till right before 2:00 this morning… then I woke up at 8:00 because my hubby had a doctor’s appt and needed his shoes tied… (It’s easier if I do it so his ostomy bag doesn’t start leaking)… then I went back to bed and slept till 9:45… what a deadhead I was!
But I’m better now, and it’s been raining all day. I made it to the Post Office to mail Stella’s outfit and the slips and I’ve been spending the day in my sewing room…
Happy June 1st to you too!
      Blessings, Jeanne

Jeanne, you might try looking for elastic laces for your husband’s shoes. They have them in brown and black (and I suppose other colors, too) and look like regular shoelaces, only they stretch. You tie them, and then he can just slip the shoes off and on. We have them on Ron’s shoes; he also has a long-handled expandable shoehorn, as he can’t bend down any more. It gives him a little independence in that way. (I still have to clip his toenails and put his socks on him, though.)

  5. Vintage hankie doll aprons are always a delight! The apron in pic 3 had blue flowers that were removable, I believe? You used snaps in a really clever way and I still intend to try that.

    1. HI Julia,
Yes, those little blue flowers snapped on and off… I have only done it that one time… maybe I need to try it again…
I’m glad you enjoyed seeing the aprons again…
      Thanks Julia,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Sweet outfit for Kirsten. Like Julia, I remember those removable flowers, a really neat idea.
My favorites are number 4 and 3. I also like 5 and 2. Kirsten needs blue.

    1. Hi Laura,
Well, if my calculations are correct, you REALLY like the blue dresses! So do I and so does Kirsten… it doesn’t matter what color blue, just so it’s “blue!”
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Marilyn from Colorado

With the 6 new old dolls out, I’d love to see inspiring pictures of all 6, preferably like you are doing, one doll at a time. I’m very fond of the picture second from the top and the one second from the bottom. The sunbonnets are very nice, but the caps are my very favorites on her. They are also surprisingly nice for Lindsay.

    1. HI Marilyn,
Well, I AM going to make outfits for all the new dolls out from AG… Kirsten was first and then _______ will be next… still deciding…
And then I’m going to follow up with a few posts of their special dress with some of my favorites from that doll from my archives… it’s a good thing I had all those dolls…
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne
