Some Saturday Smiles…

My Friday couldn’t have been any busier…and it just didn’t stop…(mostly roofing stuff!) SO I’m having to show you a few things on the back burner…

BUT FIRST… Let there be MINT GREEN on Isabelle…not aqua, but mint green! Yesterday Sebastian and Sylvia came over and we had a nice photo session and lots of talk about my dolls and props and “accessories!” The pictures he took were too dark and too shadowy… so last night, after he had played around with the pictures, he asked if he could come back over again this morning for another session… and he thought he had it figured out… Well, lookie here… It is about as good as it’s going to get and I can’t thank him enough… I knew you’d want to see a few of the pictures… I need to get the others unzipped and cropped and ready for Ebay…

First up… I may have forgotten to show these pictures of Charlotte’s girls at Christmas… a BIG WHOOPS from me… I searched and couldn’t find where I had shown them before, and I’m not sure if I saw them from Charlotte’s email but never got them on my blog, but I really don’t remember seeing them. It doesn’t matter… they are being shown today… this is what Charlotte said…

“The first one is my Little Darlings. Top row, left to right, Cora, Heather, Pearl, Maisie. Bottom row, left to right, Patty, Mariko, and Delaney. This bad mommy has put away some of their Christmas outfits Really Well, and can’t remember where!! So we had to improvise for a couple of them. The outfits on Cora, Patty and Mariko are ones I made; the ones on Heather, Pearl and Maisie were ones received in swaps over the years. (Pearl wants you to know that she has SILVER shoes on!! They go with her flower girl dress, that she decided would make a good Christmas dress, too!!) As you see, Mariko still loves her bunny that Santa brought her last Christmas!

The other two pictures are Gigi in the wonderful outfit you made. In the second one, she wants everyone to see that she has a “big girl” petticoat on under her pretty dress!!

Merry Christmas to you and yours. Hugs, Charlotte”

Next Joy sent me something I skipped over accidentally! This is her Rose BBflocking Wrascal! This is what she said…

“Here’s my blue Wrascal. Very tiny thing and blue too. 🙂
I made her a felt dress, but think she really wants overalls and a t shirt.
Joy”

…just to make you smile a little more.. Joy also sent this… it certainly made me smile…

Too many Girl Scout cookies…

Linda sent this to me… It seems we are ALL thinking about Mint green vs. Aqua blue… I was in the grocery store and happened to see some Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream in the freezers and immediately thought of Isabelle’s dress… Linda was thinking about colors too… when she said this…

“Here is a picture of Betsy wearing her mint green overalls. I was wondering if this color looks any different than the dress you say is mint green. Does this appear aqua or green to you? I am wondering if your dress and jacket seem more aqua than this.. Looking at these overalls, there is no aqua in them at all, they are true mint green.. So confusing with the pictures!! I hope you can get it figured out!”

Betsy’s overalls look perfectly minty to me… no aqua there, at least to me! She’s adorable…

Well, that’s going to be it for me today… I hope I did show you something to make you smile!

See you Monday,
Blessings, Jeanne

Hooray for mint green, and for Sebastian’s talent for fixing the color in your pictures!! It really is a true mint green now, and Isabelle looks so pretty in it!!

Thanks for posting my pictures, Jeanne. I was pretty sure I hadn’t seen them in an earlier blog, so I’m glad I said something to you. You reversed the order of the two of Gigi, so it’s the First picture in which she is showing off her “big girl” petticoat!! I’m sure everyone figured that out! LOL

Thanks for sharing pictures of your Wrascal, Joy. I don’t think I’ve ever seen those before. Her hair is long enough, she could be Rapunzel in the school play!

Oh, yeah…good old Kermit! I’ve seen that one, too. Sadly, I did not get any G.S. cookies this year. There’s someone on the next block who had a sign out for a couple of weeks, and I kept thinking I’d stop “later”, but never did. With the pandemic, no one had tables out in front of the grocery store this year.

Linda, your Betsy is so cute in her overalls! I love that they are trimmed with the blouse fabric. Did you make them?

I finally got our corned beef and cabbage made today, so we are set for meals for a few days now. I find it’s difficult to “cook small” for the two of us, so we usually end up with 2-4 days of meals and/or stuff in the freezer!

  2. Well, done, Jeanne. or maybe Sebastian! I DO see mint green now with Isabelle’s dress! What a difference, and I sure you are more than thrilled! That picture of her looking in the mirror is just darling! I hope you put that on the listing.

Well goodness me, Charlotte, you lucky girl to have ALL those Little Darlings! You are way too spoiled! LOL Who would know they all don’t have their Christmas dresses on? You did a great job getting them all ready for Santa! Gigi looks like Ten Ping, she is adorable!

Joy’s litle Wrascal looks so prim and proper there in her chair, it is hard to believe she wants to wear overalls and a tee shirt!

That frog, …..didn’t you recognize that it’s me???LOL

Charlotte, no, I did NOT make that overalls set! They were given to me by a friend, who told me they were made by a lady who lives in Canada. They are more of Jeanne’s type of professional sewing than anything I could ever do!!

It’s great to have a friend who was able to fix the Mint Green Mystery. Now that is true mint.
I played around with one of the imposters, of Aqua, images and never got a true mint but pretty close. Sorry so much has been going out in my family that I closed my program and just now found out that I didn’t save it. Grrr. Did he tell you what adjustments he made so if this comes up again you know what to adjust.

Ladies you are all spoiled with your doll collections and clothing. I am in awe.

Charlotte Trayer…..I hear you about cooking small portions. It is just me and unless you make several servings it isn’t worth the time and mess to cook for one.

Ladies have a great weekend. I am off to my sewing room to create a very special dress for a little girl who got her first American Girl doll. She is so excited.

    1. How exciting, Sandra and how very sweet of you to make that very special first dress. I hope you share a picture of the finished project. Which doll did she choose?

    2. Charlotte Trayer

What an exciting project to have this weekend, Sandra! The first AG doll is always the most special, I think–whatever your age!

And, yes, when I cook large portions now, I always have an eye to how much space I have in the freezer for leftovers! LOL Last May, when I had that bad fall and everything was in lockdown except for takeout, I was sure glad to have a few “homemade” things in the freezer, because I couldn’t stand long enough to fry an egg!

  4. Well, well, minty green, but with the loss of sharpness, clarity, and a bit overexposed too. I know your friend tried, but your photos are crisp, and I especially liked the close up without shadows that you showed one time. Maybe include one of these for the color, but use your pretty photos. They will sell the outfit. 🙂
Thanks for sharing Charlottes girls. What a wonderful bunch. Gigi too. Charlotte’s photos are perfect in color resolution. 🙂
Linda’s photo of Betsy in that adorable true mint outfit is so sweet! Love the strawberries.
My photo of a Wrascal is a perfect example of not enough light which gives the photo’s subject a muddy appearance.
I’m excited to see what is happening with the chimney demolition. Hope you’re taking some photos to share. 🙂
I just had to go to Joann’s. Haven’t been in ages. Ended up getting another of those ArtBin divided plastic boxes so I can continue sorting and labeling dolly shoes. Definitely will take a look at those fishing lure boxes when I get to the lace around here though. 🙂
    Have a fun weekend everyone.

    1. Charlotte Trayer

Thank you, Joy. I just have a little Nikon Coolpix L30 camera, nothing fancy. My husband is the one that “needs” different lenses, etc.! But it works for me, and most of my pictures aren’t too bad, so I’m happy. (It really helped when I finally learned how to “frame” a picture in my viewfinder/lens, too! I stopped cutting off heads, or including vast expanses of sky! LOL)

  5. Yes, now the outfit is definitely mint. But either way, mint or aqua, it’s still a lovely outfit. Wow Charlotte sure has a lot of Little Darlings. I had no idea. They all look so lovely. I really like Delaney’s dress. I have a thing for Christmas plaid. Like her name too.

Joy’s Wrascal is really cute. I never heard of this doll. The felt dress is really cute too, but, if she’s anything like my girls jeans, shorts, capris and a t-shirt is what they prefer wearing. I like making the fancy stuff but they’ll only give in to that at Christmas and Easter. Right now they’re picking out patterns and fabrics for their summer go-to-the-beach clothes. They are a wee bit disappointed that Camp Meadow is not fully open this year so they are not allowing full capacity. Legacy wins out so all the campers from last year got first dibs and the allowed number was reached quickly. I didn’t think Joy would appreciate a box-load of “campers” showing up on her doorstep. But I would have paid return postage.

Betsy’s outfit is really sweet. I love making shirts and overalls where the shirt fabric is used for the cuffs of the overalls. I really like coordinated things. When my kids were small all their outfits were coordinated pieces. It made dressing easier for several years. No conflicts. I just asked if they wanted to wear the blue, yellow or red outfit. They got to choose what they wore but it was always something I could live with. Later it was just jeans and t-shirts and I was out of the mix. All that coordinated stuff drives my daughter crazy. When I send my grandson an “outfit” she makes sure the two pieces are never worn together. My daughter-in-law does the same thing. I’ve never been able to figure out their problem with it and probably never will because what seems a way to make things easier to me seems to put pressure on them. These days I send gift cards.

Joy mentioned the ArtBins. I love those and have several (no exaggeration) of them. I use them for many things and one holds my small props. I usually buy them on sale because they are a bit pricey. Using them for doll shoes is a great idea.

Well the sod has arrived so they will be setting up for the Easter Tea Party today. A week late, but it’s still the Easter season. I was really pleased with the “grass”. It’s actually a table runner I got from a tablecloth company. It’s made to set things on so it is flat but textured so it doesn’t look like it. I was worried that it might be hard to stand the girls on but I think things will be fine. The runner was $20.00 but I got a discount for a first purchase but I splurged to get it quickly, something I don’t usually do, so I’m keeping the shipping cost to myself. I’m off to make some macarons for the Tea Party. I actually got them from the shop at the Virtual Doll Convention. Really realistic looking.

    1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Barbara, a tea party, what fun. My Little Darlings Charlotte Noelle and Selah would like to know if they can attend. We love tea parties in my house.

    2. Everyone is welcome at Camp Meadow. 🙂 Just put up a sign and you’re there. 🙂 This makes me think that I really do need to work on those life jackets for the campers boating excursion. 🙂
Rose BBFlockling (just Google) has lots of dolls. Like the Meadow kids, they are available once in awhile on preorder. In fact, she has twins coming up tomorrow I believe. The Wrascals ate pretty small. About 6 1/2″. Others are larger. 🙂

    3. Charlotte Trayer

Hi Barbara, yes, the LDs sort of multiplied once I got started! LOL I haven’t ordered one for 2-3 years now, but have gotten other dolls! Not sure if I’ll get a boy LD or not–I’ve thought about it, but after 40+ years of boys (one son, four nephews, four grandsons, now a great-nephew, and only one granddaughter), I am just enjoying all the “girly” sewing!

I adopted Delaney from another collector, and changed her name. (Her full name is Lydia Delaney, but she likes her middle name best!) The outfit she’s wearing came with her, and she and I both love it, too!

I like coordinated outfits, too, but when our son was little, we relied more on things like those Garanimals, where the kids could just match the tags–remember those? Most of the time, however, his pants/shorts were denim or solid colors, so it didn’t matter too much what shirt he picked out. When he wore his HeeHaw overalls (handed down from a friend–I absolutely LOVED them, my husband, not so much! LOL) however, I did insist on a solid-colored shirt with those! The old 4-H training, you know, about not mixing prints!

  6. Jeanne, I think your friends got it this time. Honestly though, the Aqua looked minty to me, but now I see the difference. You must be happy about that finally!

So much fun seeing all the girls in their finery!
Charlotte, your girls are adorable in their pretty dresses! Interesting names for your girls. Were some named after someone you know and or just names you liked? Seems to me, you once told us a few were named after someone?

Joy, even though your girl looks cold, she has a pretty dress and nice that it’s one of your creations. Sounds like you have another outfit in mind to make.
The Kermit pictures are funny! I get it – I’ve got a small stash in our pantry!
Linda, your Betsy looks so sweet in her cute outfit. Yes, I would say it’s definitely mint. Her face is so cute- reminds me of a happy mischievous little girl. Have you ever seen a doll created after Linda, Betsy’s cousin? Every once in awhile the McCall magazine would add Linda or Sandy to the featured Betsy’s paper doll page. I cut them out all the time. I put some in a picture frame and these were ones I bought from Ebay.

    1. Oh yes, Paula, I know all about Betsy’s cousin, Linda! I also cut out the paper dolls from the McCall magazine. It is very hard to find Linda on EBay, but I do look every once in awhile.

      1. Linda and Paula, I have Barbara McCall, Betsy’s friend Dru, and I think it is her cousin Jimmy as well as 10″ Linda McCall. I think my Linda has the blue eye turning purple problem. Oh well. 🙂

    2. Charlotte Trayer

      Hi Paula,

Thanks! Let’s see, the one doll that was named for someone was Heather Melissa. She was named after a little girl we knew (who was Heather Marie), who was born with three heart defects, and only lived not quite 3 years. She was the most beautiful baby I have ever seen–curly red hair, big blue eyes, skin like porcelain. I was the only one, other than family, that she would allow to take care of her. Since she was so fragile, I would take her into an empty Sunday School room and take care of her while her mom and dad went to church, those Sundays they were able to attend.

Cora came with her name, as did Patty. Patty belonged to my friend Pat; I had introduced to my first LD, and she fell in love, and ordered one of her own. Pat was fairly ill at the time, and her stepdaughter talked to the artist to straighten one issue out, told about the illness, and the artist facilitated the completion of Patty so that Pat could enjoy her for as long as possible. Patty even went to the hospital with Pat, the last time. She really loved that doll. After she died, her husband gave Patty to me, saying he thought Pat would want me to have her.

As to the others, Maisie was my first order, and as I thought about ordering one, the name Maisie kept floating into my mind, so that’s what I named her. Cora was ordered from the website, and already named Cora; she’s Cora Sophia. I renamed Delaney (she’s Lydia Delaney, formerly Lyra), and I also chose Pearl’s name, when I was thinking about an Asian girl. I think it really suits her. I rehomed Mariko from someone else, and she came with her name. I have thought I really should choose an “American” name for part of her name (keeping Mariko, also), and I also still need to choose Pearl’s name–poor thing has been waiting a long time!

Thanks for asking. (I love names–I own at least 10 baby name books!)

  7. Yep, I’m seeing mint green on Isabelle. How wonderful you finally have the color correct for the listing. I absolutely love that little dressing table you have for her. That has to be one of the best props. I like the little perfume bottle on top as well. I have a couple of very tiny perfume bottles that work for my PC/AG girls as well. They were samples that I saved long before I had dolls just because the bottles were pretty.
Of course we don’t mind seeing Christmas pictures late. Charlotte, all your dolls look wonderful and what a great job you did on the dresses you made. I’m a bit partial to Heather, love her long red curls. I hope you find the missing Christmas dresses. And now, I can’t help myself, (imitating Julie Andrews on the Sound of Music) “Seven Little Darlings? Seven? Gigi is certainly your spoiled one, Charlotte, getting to have two photos and all by herself. LOL
Sweet dress on your blue Wrascal, Joy. Wow, does she have long hair. LOL Kermit certainly has had too many Girl scout cookies..
Linda, Betsy looks so cute in her blouse and overalls. I always like things that coordinate, on my daughter, on myself, then and now. In high school in the 1980’s we always pulled our outfits together color-wise. I even wore pantyhose that matched ( i.e. a tan, cream and gray plaid skirt, gray sweater and gray patterned, yes, patterned hose and gray flats. And then there were the Twist a Beads where you chose at least three colors that went with your outfit.

    1. You and I would have got along very well in high school except it was the 1960s for me. I had a friend that we did opposites. I wore a blue skirt and pink top and she wore pink skirt and blue top, etc. Most of my clothes were hand-me-downs but I still managed to make “outfits” out of what I received. By the time my daughter got to high school in the 1990s it was blue jeans and t-shirts for both my son and daughter.

    2. Charlotte Trayer

Thank you Laura. I did find one of the missing Christmas dresses. Walked past it numerous times before I noticed it! Of course, it was sort of covered up in my sewing room….still haven’t found the other Christmas outfit, but I haven’t really looked lately, been busy with other projects! Thanks for asking.

  8. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, I think you have achieved mint green. Isabelle looks very pleased.

Thanks for sharing the photos from the Sofa Sisters. I always like to see what my doll nieces and nephews are doing.

  9. I have decided I hate it when the clocks go back, I struggle to stay awake during the evening then (after falling asleep anyway) I can’t sleep when I go to bed so then I wake up late in the morning. OK if I have nothing planned but difficult if I have to be somewhere early. Like this morning, I am not sure if I will have time to take the dog out before Church and he didn’t get a walk yesterday even if I would have had time since it rained for the first time in weeks! by the time the rain had stopped I had too many places to be to take him.
First place I went was my friends garage sale, I didn’t mean to spend any money but I did buy a good quality plastic container without a lid because I thought I had a spare orphan lid at home but unfortunately it didn’t fit so I still have a spare lid but now a spare box as well. I also bought a porcelain doll! I thought Caitlin might like it, it is a Promenade Collection doll, Beatrice which actually aren’t highly collectible lol. My sister sent me a doll for Christmas years ago (before the PO started charging an arm and a leg for parcels) so I looked at the label on her and she was from the Leonardo Collection and her name is Hannah. She has always been in a glass fronted cabinet so is still in perfect condition but the one one I got yesterday isn’t quite so perfect.
Yesterday was our Canterbury Patchwork and Quilting meeting and I picked up some more fabric from the free table that I really don’t need!!!! but couldn’t resist. There was a huge bolt, must have been 10 metres at least of a fairly ugly fabric that I think might work for backing for a quilt and/or bags or bag lining and another fabric that will be lovely for the dolls, about 5 metres I think. There will be enough as well to make something for my new baby great-granddaughter who is due next month. It is a pity we can’t buy extra hours at a garage sale, I’d be up for that.
Jeanne the outfit is definitely mint green now. I still like the aqua better but of course that isn’t helpful if it only looks aqua in the photos lol. I would be interested in what he did to get the colour right.
It was great to see Charlotte’s dolls all dressed up for Christmas, she does have a lot of Little Darlings. I do like them and of course I recognised Gigi’s outfit immediately as one you made.
I had never seen the Little Wrascal dolls she is very cute and so tiny!
I haven’t had time to send the pictures Sam took on Friday but will make time tomorrow morning. I really must get ready for Church now. No rain today and back to 25C Summer isn’t quite ready to let go yet.

  10. Well! Will wonders never cease! MINT green after all!
It looks so pretty! What great ensemble! It should do very well at auction.
Good luck with the roof…..we just got done fixing the roof area over the front porch. What seems like a small job seems to always turn into a huge one. Of course you have age working in the mix too.
Can’t wait to see it on eBay
Oh,BTW MY sis told me about a new show on HG called “everything but the house”.Folks who want to simplify use this service..the auctioneers take what they think will sell and photograph it and set it up for on line auction. Everything starts at a dollar. I’m not sure of all the details…how much the seller and auction people split but the episode I watched was very entertaining…when you get to watch the end of the auction it shows bidders from all over the country on a map as the auction ends trying to outbid each other.

  11. Hi everyone,
I’m sorry I can’t join in on your Saturday chattering…my hubby and Kristoffer have been working on taking down the chimney and I was the “gopher girl”…you know, go fer this and go fer that!! I was also the lunch and dinner cook, the cheerleader, the person who had to write down the measurements for openings, AND the clean up girl…on the stairs…they cleaned up all the brick pieces on the roof…
Well. Gotta go…but somehow in the few minutes I was “given” here and there, I managed to get my listing put together…it took me all day, but it’s scheduled to go on this evening…
    Bye…Jeanne
