Maybe Felicity’s straw hat CAN be worn like this…

Before I show you today’s post, I wanted to share something I found just as I was scrolling through Ebay…I wasn’t looking, but certainly recognized this outfit made by me for the Little Darlings… a lady won it but has since died… her daughters are selling her doll collection…(I know this because she was a neighbor of my grandma’s in a town just a little ways from my house, and the woman emailed me a few times…and then the daughters emailed me.) If anyone is interested… you might want to scoop it up for a nice price. It was one of my favorites…

Here are 4 of “my” pictures when I listed the outfit…

…and here is the link to the daughters selling the set…It looks like the thigh highs and the bear are missing, but they are including a pair of turquoise looking shoes…

Effner Little Darling outfit by I Dream of Jeanne Marie

Linda asked a good question yesterday in her comments… she wondered if Felicity’s straw hat could be worn with the decorated flowers in the front? I think I answered her that I put the spot where the straw on the hat ends and it’s an abrupt area, to the back usually. I always mark that as the spot to go in the back… BUT… I guess I didn’t ever think about it too much, and Linda made me pick my brain and see if it could be worn with the flowers in the front.

I never thought that much about it before… just put it in the back, BUT, I could easily put the area I’m talking about on the side and the ribbons would cover it… It just never occurred to me to do it that way, SO from now on, my hats will be reversible… they can be worn with the flowers in the front or the back… Here is another view of the area where the straw starts… If a trim were along the edge of the hat, it wouldn’t matter at all…

Now, I suppose if I didn’t bother the winner, the hat could be turned either way… and I’ll show you what I mean… and it can be tied in the back or the front, because the ribbon is centered right down the middle of the hat…

You can see the pictures with arrows showing you the place that is usually in the back but now you’ll see it in the front. I guess it’s not really that noticeable… I just “thought” it was… anyway, here you go…

I primed cabinets, so that’s all I have for today… see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

What a pretty outfit that was, that you made for LDs a while back! It’s too bad the lady’s daughters aren’t doll collectors, or at least not interested in these dolls.

I guess I probably would have planned for the spot in Felicity’s hat to be in the back, too. But covering it with trim–either by placing it under the wide ribbon that ties under the chin or by stitching some sort of trim over it–would certainly make it less noticeable. Even so, not everyone will “see” it the way you (and I) do! Whichever way the hat is worn, it’s beautiful!

    1. Charlotte thank you for your advice on my sleeve ruffle questions. I did take another look at the pattern pieces there are some little dash lines, but nothing to say which side gets gathered like normal patterns and no instructions. Since it’s a multiple size pattern book, some pieces will be printed several pages away. Probably meant for a more experienced seamstress. I’m going to try again soon. Thanks again Dorothy L.

      1. Hi Dorothy
I’m going to look back at Charlotte’s comments and see if I can add anything else…

    2. Hi Charlotte
I think this lady’s dolls and more, were these girls inheritance. They have been selling her dolls and outfits for months and if you click on her other items for sale and then her completed sales, you can see some of the dolls they have sold…
I will have to remember to put the start of the hat at the side… I learned something this week…
      Thanks Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Thank you for doing that, Jeanne! I love seeing the flowers in front, and now understand what you were talking aobut where the brim shows the spot where the two sides meet. Oh, I love that bow ties in front too, even with the flowers in front, although at first I thought it would be too much!
Did you see my late comment yesterday about a drawstring bag in matching material for her? You mentioned not having a lot of that fabric, so you wouln’t be making another dress with it, so I thought a little bag might work for her and could be a little something “exrtra” if the dress goes above a certain price.

What a sweet LD dress at a very good price, that will probably only go up as the bids come in! I do remember that dress, and it looks just perfect for somebody’s doll for Easter!

    1. Thank you for asking that question Linda…it turned out good for both of us…
Yes, I did see your comment about a drawstring bag and I do have enough fabric for a drawstring bag if the winner wanted one…
I loved that dress set and almost kept my mouth shut and bought it myself…:o) but decided to just tell everyone about it…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Putting the joining place under the ribbon ties is a great idea, and easily done. Priming cabinets is also a great idea, but not as easy. However, you have already demonstrated that they will be beautiful. Your work will be rewarded every single day.

    1. Hi Marilyn,
I had big plans to paint more today, but I woke up with a dreadful head cold…and an awful headache… but I’m hoping to do “something!”
      Thanks Marilyn
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Glad you found the outfit to share, but sorry that it has to be sold from the estate. I wonder if they are selling her dolls also? That wig on your LD is so cute. Love that style.
So many cabinets. So little time. But, they will be all completed soon. πŸ™‚
Spring is here and we’re expecting the temp to hit 80 in the next few days. Nice, but we will be on drought patrol soon.
Tell George we have a flock of fan tailed pigeons/doves in the neighborhood. This will be their third year. They love the oak woodlands and make the cutest calls. They have taken to standing on the top of our bird feeder metal crook and eyeing the seed in the feeder out of their reach. The songbirds are busy below getting seed, but they are too big.

    1. Hi Joy,
My hope is to get the cabinets finished next week, but I woke up with a cruddy cold, so I’ve felt like rot today.. no painting so far today and it’s 5:00… :o(
I WILL tell my hubby about the pigeons…he’ll smile!!
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

        1. I’ll tell my hubby…he told me he didn’t think there would be a group of wild fan tails…

  5. How wonderful that the hat can be worn with the flowers and the bow to the front. I like the bow to the front myself and I also like the flowers to the front so that’s a win-win. Funny how we have certain ways of doing things and then one day someone mentions something we hadn’t thought of and it turns out to be a great idea. They say attitude is everything but I think it’s really flexibility. Keeps the blood pressure under control.

I think my Hubby is not too keen on my LD girls. He says they always look sad. He likes the Fashion Friends because they always look so happy. Guess I’ll be forced to make my next LD purchase a Sculpt #3 so he’ll be pleased with at least one of the LD girls. Probably not, but it does sound like a good excuse to buy another LD. But I’m sure his thinking will be you already have four with that expression. And I am so running out of room on the dolly shelves.

    1. Hi Barbara,
Yes, it’s funny…all the hats I’ve made and I always thought the only way to make them was to put that starting spot to the back…didn’t ever consider putting the seam edge under the ribbons on the side… but I will NOW!!
My hubby said exactly what yours did.. he LOVES the smiles on the RRFF dolls…and thinks many of my other dolls look too sad!!
      Thanks Barbara
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. I remember that outfit very clearly. I guess the lady’s daughters aren’t doll people or don’t care for the LDs.
Oh, I love the flowers and the bow in the front. More is definitely the way to go. Hiding the joining under the ribbon is the perfect way to make all hats reversible.
It sounds like you will be ready to paint those last cabinets very soon.

    1. Hi Laura,
I think the dolls are the daugters inheritance.. and their mom gad MORE than you can imagine…they have been selling their moms dolls for months!!
I had big plans for painting today but woke up with a terrible cold so I’ve been sidelined today… maybe tomorrow…
      Thanks Laura
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. I think I like the flowers at the front best. It can obviously be worn both ways so if the buyer notices the end of the straw she can have it at the back. For myself it is so small and the flowers big enough to draw the eye that I think she will not even notice.
I remember seeing that outfit when you were showing some photos of your past creations. I love the LD’s I know they aren’t smiley smiley but I think they have cute and very pretty faces.

I made a couple more bags, this time a cheetah and a tiger. I am hoping to have time for a couple of fashion bags for the market on Sunday. I really hope other people like them all enough to part with their money lol. I had a look on Trade Me (our local auction site) and there is nothing like them on there for sale so I may start putting some on there as well.

I went to my grandson’s 18th birthday party last night. His sister’s 21st is in July, where does the time go! It seems no time at all when we were all worried about the Millennium affecting our computers, and now here we are in 2021!

    1. Hi Anne,
I guess I could try gluing the ends of the straw and pulling it up so it doesn’t look loose…

I guess I never paid that much attention to the Little Darlings and other dolls that aren’t “smiley” dolls…I just thought they were sweet…

I hope your bags sell out quickly…is your market set up with tables and each vendor has a booth area? That’s generally the way craft fairs are done here…

Yes, those kiddos do grow up fast!!
      Thanks Anne,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. We didn’t have any internet this a.m. When they said “tower down” I suspect the thing hadn’t actually fallen over!

Putting the end under the ribbon tie is the perfect solution and makes Felicity’s hat more versatile.

I feel for the daughters that must do something with their mother’s collection. I think about this often. Ultimately my son gets stuck with it and so I have sold almost all my duplicate dolls. Even if the daughters kept a few each, there still might be more than they want personally. When I think about things my husband and son have accumulated like radio controlled race cars, I would not know where to start! I think having something like a collection to find new homes for can be overwhelming! My mom collected blue glass. We’ve given sooo much away and still have more! I will probably sell her Fostoria. I have the Fenton I gave her. She said for years that anything we gave her we would get back. I quit giving her blue glass! So often on Craig’s list I see someone try to unload “collectible” porcelain dolls. They can hardly give those away. I’ve seen huge collections of cherished teddies that are being sold as one lot. Are they kidding? Even if I collected them, I wouldn’t spend $1000 plus for a hundred plus at one time! Half the fun of collecting is the hunt and I’m not looking for a huge number all at once! Those are my thoughts on that subject! Any questions? LOL! πŸ˜„πŸ˜πŸ˜†

    1. Hi Julia
Glad they “got the tower back up!” :o)

I sometimes wonder about all the stuff in my sewing room..dolls, props, fabric, trims, laces, notions, patterns, etc. and wonder what anyone would think when the would go through all my stuff. Let’s don’t go there…
      Thanks Julia,
      Blessings, Jeanne
