Another Thanksgiving holiday has come and gone!

My yesterday was too busy and I was too tired to start anything new, so I just have a few tidbits to share with you today…

Ten Ping approved this candy to go along with her dress set…it looks yummy, doesn’t it?

Joy sent this wonderful picture of their Thanksgiving family get together… complete with turkey hats. She said her daughter picked them up somewhere… aren’t they funny??

Jean and Bithar decided because of Covid they wouldn’t come over…but I had already bought the stuff for dinner so I told them I would still make dinner and bring it over to their house. My hubby decided this year he didn’t want turkey, but BBQ chicken…so that’s what I made. ..along with corn casserole, sweet potato souffle, mashed potatoes, crescent rolls, chocolate pie, red velvet cupcakes and chocolate chip cookies.

I thought I’d just be dropping it off outside and they would come and get it…but Jean met me in the parking lot and carried one of the boxes inside. So I followed with the other. He asked me to come inside and see the kids…so I did…and Bithar too…

I had put together a little game with some prizes and the kids wanted me to stay and play it with them…so I did…
Then they wanted me to take their picture at the table with their food…so I did that too…

I decided it was time to leave and as I did, I was a bit confused…as to what just happened…oh well, they were happy with the food and I came home and did dishes…

Here is a picture of them…

We’re going to have our family Thanksgiving with the kids Saturday… (Rebecca had to work Thursday) so I’ve got to get “our” dinner planned… and see if I have forgotten anything on my list.

I asked my hubby about the baby chicks and he said he has Isa Browns, Golden Comets, which are both great cold weather chickens (meaning they lay during the winter months, and they are good egg layers!) He also has one Barred Rock and that one big black guy is called a Black Sex Link… that’s all I know for now…

…and one last tidbit…I talked with my sister, Deb, tonight and she has a new piano composition you can listen to if you like. I listened to it last week, but forgot to post it on here so others could hear it. She is QUITE talented!!! This is how she introduced it for listeners…
“One of the highlights of my year has been creating this little waltz as a gift for my daughter Molly. It is a bittersweet remembrance of her at the piano and how very quickly time flies away. I used a little ditty she always played as my inspiration. (Portrait by her dad.)

Don’t forget to turn up your volume. :o)

Well, I’m calling this 2020 Thanksgiving Day done! Hope yours was as good as it could be… *sigh*

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Oh, boy, I agree with Ten Ping. That candy looks wonderful! I’m going to have to see if I can find some around here, although lately I have been scarfing down peppermint bark, and don’t know that I really Need those extra calories! Ha!!

Loved Joy’s family picture. What fun those turkey hats are!

So nice to see the picture of Jean and Bithar–how the children have grown! I’m glad you got to spend some time with them even if they didn’t come over. I didn’t see a picture of the new baby, though?

Deb’s music is lovely. Thanks for sharing.

I fixed a 6 pound turkey breast for our dinner today, and I have to say, I think it was as perfect as any turkey I’ve ever fixed. Golden brown on the outside, and juicy and tender on the inside. Ron said it just melted in his mouth, and I think he was right! Won’t have to cook much for the next couple of days, though–lots of leftovers!

    1. HI Charlotte,
I haven’t ever had that candy before, but just going on look, how can you go wrong?
Glad you like the Turkey hats. I’ve never seen anything like that before! Joy said they will probably make it a yearly tradition. I sure would!

Little David was sleeping so he wasn’t in the picture, but my yes, those kids have certainly grown…even since I last saw them.
I’m glad you enjoyed Deb’s music. She works SO hard at what she loves…and I think it shows! :o)
Good for you on getting the turkey “just right!” Sounds like you nailed it!
      Thanks Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Thanks for the chicken variety update. Should make a fine flock. 🙂
It was so kind of you to make that special dinner for your friends. I’m sure they all appreciated it. I can’t imagine doing distance learning with all of the kids. Bithar must work miracles to keep them all on task.
Sounds like a delicious meal for you and George. Hopefully, no cooking today, and then your get together with family tomorrow. Should be wonderful. I did make your corn casserole, which everyone loves. 🙂

    1. HI Joy,
I can’t imagine doing school with all those kids either. I called her Super Woman yesterday… It was something for me to watch her JUST doing the girls hair when I was there. It would have taken me all afternoon to just do that one thing… let alone keeping them on task with homework!
Yes, I’m back in the kitchen again… I just cooked for them yesterday…and now I’m doing OUR stuff today… some of it is a repeat of yesterday, but I’m doing a few different dishes for us… There’s no pressure, just time in the kitchen… and I’ll be done before you know it…
I AM making corn casserole…it’s always a given.
Thanks for the great turkey hats picture…that was wonderful.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. What a great choice for the candy. It would certainly give anyone incentive to bid on the outfit. It looks amazing!

I couldn’t weigh in on the things I’m thankful for yesterday because my internet was down again. Second time in a little over a week. Our previous provider has been taken over and I’m not impressed so far. When it goes out it’s both the cable and internet and it’s all day. Never had this before. Living where we do we have not had a lot of choices but we are getting more all the time, so if this doesn’t stop I’ll be looking around.

Joy’s picture of her family was great and I love the hats. Her family does seem to really enjoy life.

I’m thankful for my family and the fact that while our Texas family has had COVID we all recovered well. But then a few weeks later my poor hubby came down with shingles. It was definitely worse than his experience with COVID. He had the kind the affects the eye. His eyesight did not suffer because we did all that was recommended to see this didn’t happen, but he still has problems with spasms. They say this could go on for a long time. I pray not. The “must have” eye drops were unavailable locally but CVS checked other locations and found them for me. Not close but still a drivable distance. I was relieved and very thankful to find them.

We got the cutest video of our 3-year old Colorado grandson singing “King of the Road” yesterday. Really added to our Thanksgiving celebration. There was just hubby and self, youngest son, daughter-in-law and two grandkids and our oldest son, but for us that is pretty much the usual anyway, so we didn’t notice the difference this year as many did.

Sorry you couldn’t enjoy dinner with Bithar and her family but how nice of you to make sure they had a good Thanksgiving meal. Your meal tomorrow sounds really yummy. Have you ever posted the recipe for you mom’s pineapple cake?

My son used to raise chickens. Not sure what kind but definitely laying hens who did a fine job. Watching them I definitely learned what they mean by pecking order. Really mean. He had a few bantams too. They were so cute.

I think we have some winter-like weather heading in starting today. Lots of cold rain anticipated so I guess I won’t be able to go walk for a couple days. And just in time for the Fantasy of Lights parade tomorrow. Bummer! Over the years we’ve had everything from summer-like to so cold and damp even bundling up didn’t help, but usually it has been pleasant for watching the parade. Now that Thanksgiving is over, time to move on to Christmas. Much to do in that area. Weird as the year has been, it seems I’m more on top of the Christmas season than usual. I’m about to do my Christmas letter and cards. Last year I ran out of time and never got that done. I do feel this year it’s more important than ever to let people know how we’re doing and encourage them to do the same, especially our 102 year-old friend who lives with her daughter and walks the block every day with her walker for exercise. Amazing lady! She drove until she was 98.

    1. HI Barbara,
I don’t even have to guess that that candy is good… I can taste it through the box! :o)
Sorry to hear about your hubby getting shingles… how awful!
I heard so many stories from friends who were supposed to have 20 and it ended up being just their family, and another friend told me 11 were supposed to come over and they had just their family. I guess Thanksgiving wasn’t the same for lots of families, but we can hope this time next year, it will all be just a bad memory!

No, I don’t think I’ve ever posted my mom’s pineapple sheet cake recipe, but I just might have to do that. It’s wonderful… Kristoffer asked me to make it… I made it for the nurses who took care of my mom and they raved over it…

It’s 39 degrees right now for us, and tonight it’s supposed to get down to 31… tomorrow night, 30 and Sunday night 29! BRRRR… I’m not ready yet for cold weather…

Well, I better get on to some more ladies comments. I’ve got to get up early for “our” dinner with the kids…
      Thanks Barbara,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Thanksgiving this year….”as good as it could be” is exactly right. My kids 4 families and us all exchanged our food wrapped for each family in the morning in our garage and stood around and visited in the yard. It was chilly but everyone was cheery and we all took home all the “fixins” to make at our own homes. My oldest daughter said she wasnt going to have us be alone and since we see them pretty often we felt OK at their house. It was wonderful but the others were not to know….so I’m pretty darn sure they don’t read Jeanne’s Doll blog. LOL!
I’m going to get “the girls” in their Christmas outfits this week. This year casual or Christmas costumes…it’s not a Fancy Christmas this year needless to say.
Joy, the turkey hats are a hoot! It shoukd be an annual photo.
Enjoy your Thanksgiving with your Kids on Saturday Jeanne

    1. HI Kathie,
I promise not to tell your other kids where you were for Thanksgiving! I hope you all had a nice time.
I’ve been too busy this week to even think about sewing… maybe by Monday I’ll be back to things… as usual.
Please send some pictures when you get your girls all fancied up for Christmas…casual or not… we want to see them.
      Thanks Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. It was lovely of you to take the food around for Bithar and her family but it was a bit strange. Maybe as long as they don’t go to someone’s house they are social distancing! Lovely photos though.
I had a lovely surprise yesterday, my friend who is hosting the Garden Party market tomorrow gave me a lovely box of all sorts of goodies. I gave gave her the wall hanging I made for the quilt exhibition, the one of the sheep eating the flowers, as she loved it so much and she gave me the gift in return. I haven’t had a good look at it yet but there is lots of chocolate.
I have to finish the Christmas Play I am organising, fortunately I don’t expect everyone to learn their lines. not very long till the first performance, we are doing two, one for all of Delta on 22nd and one for our combined service on Christmas Eve. The Delta one is in the afternoon so some who are doing the Christmas Eve performance can’t do the 22nd as they will be at work. Should be fun. The theme is ‘How would today’s media have handled the events of Christmas?’ So we are having a Jerusalem News Special Broadcast
Enjoy today (Saturday) with your family Jeanne

    1. HI Anne,
I didn’t try to stew over what happened, but just enjoyed my little bit of time with them anyway.
Oh how fun to receive a gift from your friend like what you are describing… She was blessed and you in turn were blessed too! I love that! Chocolate is ALWAYS a good gift! :o)

It sounds like you are in Busy Mode again for a while… You amaze me at all the things you are involved in or help out with or DO! :o)
I got several things made today so tomorrow should be pretty leisurely!
      Thanks Anne,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. The Pecan Toffee looks yummy and the winner should be very pleased.
Joy’s photo is hysterical with the turkey hats. Those and the masks will make that photo one to remember. So glad you were able to get together.
It was nice that you could visit with Jean, Bithar, and the kids. I would be a bit confused as well since they didn’t want to come, but then you came in and spent time anyway.
I’ll listen to Deb’s music later as I have to do some things first.
My dear friend was just diagnosed with COVID19 on Wednesday evening. We haven’t seen each other this year in person. Her daughter is caring for her and I’m calling to check up.
She has a prior lung condition (sarcoidosis) that is inherited or sometimes triggered by a virus. I would appreciate prayers for a swift recovery.

    1. HI Laura,
Yes, aren’t those turkey hats the most ingenious things you’ve ever seen… I wonder if they are rubbery like…it’s hard to tell. Yes,with those masks on, it certainly won’t be a Thanksgiving to forget! Maybe next year they’ll just have the hats on… let’s HOPE so!

Yes, I will keep your friend in prayer too… a lung condition is not a good thing to have right now!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. I finally got to listen to Deb’s waltz. Really beautiful. As I was listening to it parts of the song from the movie “Charade” kept running through my head. Wonder if there is any connection?

I also enlarged the picture of Joy’s family and really got a good look at the turkey hats. They are hilarious. I’ve never seen anything like them and I get a lot of catalogs.

    1. HI Barbara,
I’m glad you enjoyed Deb’s music… I don’t know the movie Charade and I’m pretty sure Deb hasn’t seen it… They don’t usually watch TV… they’re book readers!
      Thanks Barbara,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    2. Charlotte Trayer

I knew Deb’s music reminded me of something, Barbara! The theme song from Charades is it, I’m sure. Just lovely!

Jeanne, you may not know the Movie, but I’ll bet you’ve heard the song. It starts out “When we played our charades….”

  8. Today when I went to Ebay, there was a row of Christmas plates, all hoping I’d buy just one more. But the first picture in the row was Ten Ping, sitting demurely on her white bench in front of a green and leafy background. She was so cute that I had my hand ready to bid when I realized that no Ten Ping lives here.
Several people are relaxing for this holiday and deciding that their big dinner will be today, tomorrow, or Sunday. It’s nice not to have to rush.

    1. HI Marilyn,
I did quite a bit of my baking and getting things ready for tomorrow, but it IS nice to not have any stress over this dinner… my kids are easy and we’ll eat when it’s all ready…
Tomorrow it should be just like getting ready for a nice lunch, as my house is pretty well cleaned up since I thought Jean and Bithar were coming over…
Oh well, I’ll have more time to just sit and visit!
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Thanks for the pic of Jean, Bithar, and all their children. Even seeing them in a picture is encouraging! 🙂 Also love the story or what happened to the ‘dinner’. 🙂
