What dolls would you buy if YOU had a million dollars?

Dorothy mentioned in her comments yesterday that in her “free time at home” she had been surfing the internet, looking at dolls. Sounds harmless enough, doesn’t it? Well, one of her next sentences mentioned that she was putting together a folder on her computer to hold the “dolls she would buy if she had a million dollars!” (or maybe she would just rescue if need be…TLC you know…) I thought that was funny and wondered if any of you had any similar ideas for any new dolls coming to your house? Anyone have a doll in mind you’d buy if ONLY your Dolly Dollars Tree would hurry up and bloom???

I’m actually okay right now… no dolly fever for me, just yet. I’m wanting to get my cabinets painted and have been thinking more about that than new dolls.

However I did have some doll pictures saved that I thought at one time I would really LOVE to have… I’ll share them and then we can discuss what you’d like to have…if you had that million dollars! :o)

This is a 10″ Boneka doll, like my Noel and she is so adorable with those gray eyes.

When I was obsessed about getting a Paola Reina doll, I stumbled on this picture and was very much smitten…

This little cutie is one of the My Meadow sculpts and is the same as my Bailey… she’s a Bailey too, but painted by Charlene Smith. I think I have a thing for red heads!

I saw this Little Darling on Vanaline’s blog one time and had her as my favorite when I was waiting for my doll to be painted by Lana Dobbs. I ended up changing my mind and had Emmie painted the way she is. But I always wondered if I made the right choice.

This might be my favorite… a Little Darling that I have pined away over many years. Joyce Mathews painted her for someone and they are surely blessed to have this doll in their collection.

Well, those are some cuties I saved in a folder…thinking one day, I might own them. I have moved on but still think every single one of them is just as adorable as the next.

Now, tell me about the dolls you’ve seen that have stolen your heart…

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

At the moment I can’t think of any that have particularly stolen my heart, although I suppose it’s really just a matter of time! As some of you know, I already have seven Little Darlings, and two Bonekas, so I’m good on that score–for now!! I must admit some of the My Meadow dolls kind of call my name, but so far I have resisted!!

A number of years ago, the doll artist Annette Himstedt did three or four dolls for Mattel–pretty high-end, really. I think there were three babies plus an older girl. The babies were Annchen (a German girl), Taki (a Eurasian girl) and Moe (an African/American boy). I looked and looked at those pictures, and I decided I REALLY wanted Annchen–she looked much like I had when I was a baby, and, since I never had a baby (our son is adopted) I guess I wanted her for that reason. I kept thinking about her.

Then I was doing a doll show, and a dealer had a couple of those dolls, including Annchen! So I asked if I could pick her up, and she said yes. And….nothing. Nope. Not my doll!! I put her back and thanked the lady, and started to walk away, and then….I asked if I could pick Moe up. Yes. I did. “Hi mom, I’ve been waiting for you!” Even though he was really expensive (for me at that time, anyway), I asked if they did layaway, and they did. Hm. I’d have to wait about three months before taking him home. Then, “Do you take Visa?” Yes.

And that is how I got Moe! He is the size of a 6-9 month baby, and has curly black hair and big brown eyes. He is the one doll that even my son thought was pretty cool!!

  2. The only doll I’ve ‘lusted’ after… or maybe, I should say *admired greatly* that my friends have is a My Meadows Stella – but – I’m not really sure I’d want to ‘adopt’ one – they are big and take up lots of space… I normally admire *small* dolls , because I can *have* more of those… however – I suppose Stella *could* HOLD a lot of them in the same amount of ‘space’, right? 😉

  3. My dream doll is one created by Bo Bergemann. I saw this photo a few years ago, and just fell in love with her. I forget now what her name is, but think about her every now and then, and wonder what lucky person owns her. I couldn’t copy a photo in here, so let’s see if this link to the photo works.

Jeanne, did you know you can now get Paola Reina dolls on articulated bodies? I know you disliked the way her arms were so close to her sides because it made her hard to sew for. An articulated body should solve this problem. Just thought I’d tempt you a little! 🙂

    1. I don’t know if you tempted Jeanne, but you sure did me. I have one Paola Reina, Cleo, and I love her to death, but she does have the close-in arms. Hmmm… I think a closer look at the articulated Paola Reina’s is necessary.

      1. I bought a Paola Reina on Amazon a couple of months ago, because I was selling some Little Darling clothes on ebay, and wanted to show how they also fit the Paola Reina dolls. Even though the photo of the doll on Amazon showed the doll with the arms that came out from the shoulder socket a little bit, (which was the style I really wanted) the doll I received has the close-in arms. I found out by asking a Paola Reina dealer on ebay that the close-in arms is actually the newer style body! So to get the one with the arms that come out a little, you pretty much have to find a used doll. Anyway, the articulated body Paola Reina doll can be found on ebay, and the ebay dealer icukla or icuklausa has sold dolls with this body, so I’m pretty sure they are legitimate. Oh, and I’ve actually seen two different types of articulated bodies – one I don’t care for so much, because the wrist joint looks weird to me.

  4. If I had a million, I probably wouldn’t be buying dolls. Maybe a new house though. 🙂
I do like some of the vintage Natterer dolls, especially those by Kathe Kruse. Haven’t come even close to buying one though. They don’t come up often. I suppose it would be nice to have a Zwerganse. There are a lot of cute ones out there. 🙂 More in my range might be a My Meadow doll brother for Stella May and Sophie Mae or a friend her size for Ardyn.
We were waved right inside past the long well spaced line during senior hours at Costco yesterday. Advantage of old age. Everyone kept their distance as we quickly picked up everything we wanted with the exception of that elusive toilet paper. 🙂 Were in and out in record time.
Need to get started on a recycled craft for the dollies. Still trying to figure out what I can make from what we have around here. And have lots of sewing to do as I wait for that blue embroidery thread to arrive.

    1. I’m sure your new house would come complete with a designated dolly room. But maybe you would have a little money left over for another doll, since you would then have the room and need to fill it up.

  5. I would like to have the Little Darling with the smiling face. I smiled back the first time She popped up on the screen and every time since. Riya chose a different face, so I shouldn’t have asked!

I’ve found on the NextDoor group posts that many individuals, nursing homes organizations do want the home sewn masks. They say better than nothing if it comes to that, which apparently it does. Check the internet.

  6. If money were no object, what dolls would I want? My meadow Bailey. Definitely for sure! The adorable chubby cheeks and grin plus the articulation. Sold! 😄

  7. What a difficult question. I would definitely want more Little Darlings, maybe some articulated ones. And a Boneka. I don’t have one of those at all. A Meadow Bailey and Gigi, they both always look so “up”. They remind me of my second cousins’ ten-year old twin girls. They are always smiling and having a good time. Their mom says they truly have “joie de vivre” and it shows. Then I would check out the site of AprilArt Dolls and see what she has. If you haven’t checked this site out you must. Another Paola Reina would be nice. They are more affordable but I can’t make up my mind which I want. Besides, I’m committed to a Magalie LD who should be arriving somewhere around October or November so I probably won’t commit to anything else until after that.

My grandkiddies are here today. I wasn’t for sure they would be here. They’re watching TV at the moment so I can check my e-mail and the blog. Skyy just came and asked if we could play Bingo after lunch. No problem. Then Jaiden came with a book that had projects in it. She wants to make finger pom-pom puppets. I asked her if she brought the stuff to do it, mostly wanting to know if I needed to add anything to it. She said they didn’t have anything to do them. I said well I do. I’ve got it all. Can’t believe there are no craft supplies in their house. I’ll take a look at the rest of the book and see if I can send them home with some raw materials.

    1. Hi Barbara,
Great choice on the my meadow girls… I love my dumpling Giggi and Bailey, those smiles make my day.

  8. If I had a million dollars, I don’t think I would want another doll right now, at least Jeanne! I’m more than happy with my 9 American Girl dolls and one Betsy McCall. I wouldn’t mind having the smiling Little Darling doll to be friends with Betsy, but she is very happy here, and a bit spoiled, if I do say so myself!

All those dolls you have featured are adorable and there’s not one that I would refuse to have!

Oh goodness, I just looked out the window and the sun is out, and there are blue skies! I’m going out there to work in the yard a bit. I’m getting a case of cabin fever I think!

Dear Jeanne, I cannot be believe that my idle ramblings made it to your blog (chuckle).

What I cannot believe even more is that you have posted photos of the one doll I have wanted since I saw her! It is the last doll featured in your pictures, the Little Darling. I commissioned a doll to be made like her. I even named her Sally. I waited and waited (as you know, one usually waits a year for a Little Darling). When the doll arrived, she was not Sally. She did not look like Sally or have the essence of Sally. I was devastated. The new doll was “nice” but not Sally. Alas, I was sad and the new doll was sad. We did not belong together. I was thinking about re-homing her. I decided instead to change her name. Now she is Selah. She is sister to my first Little Darling, Charlotte Noelle, who is my little imp.

I have not given up on Sally. One day, I will find her. Sally, if you are out there, come home!

Jeanne, I am sorry if this is TMI but I just cannot believe that you have Sally on your list.

  10. If I had a million dollars I definitely wouldn’t be buying dolls either. I would put it away for kitty care, a vacation back to Prince Edward Island, future expenses, things like that. I do like the last doll you have pictured, but would want her with gray eyes. She is quite lovely. I saw Dorothy’s comment… maybe the artist can never paint two dolls precisely the same.
The only doll I would like to have isn’t possible… yet. I want an Elizabeth Taylor doll in AG form- violet blue DECAL eyes, black-brown loose curls to her waist… either MG or Josefina mold and either lightest of fair skin, I’d need to see the options of what looks best .
As far as a new dolly coming to my house, I do have one and I didn’t pay a cent for her. I won THE QUEEN’s TREASURES March Giveaway. I got the email and entered. I always look at their emails and enjoy seeing what they have, but I haven’t been able to afford a single item, even with their sales. Some things I liked are sold out now. I thought why not enter, but knew tons of people would be. Did anyone on here enter?? If you didn’t see it , it was for the Mary Ingalls doll, her accessories (think Kirsten’s school items) and the pony, saddle, and blanket. My Felicity is jumping up and down as she finally gets a horse. I’ll need to think of a name as Penny won’t match the color. My other girls are excited to get to learn to ride as well. I love LHOTP, but will probably rename Mary and have her time travel among my preferred eras- Colonial, Edwardian, Pioneer, Civil War, and perhaps even Great Depression. I got the email that the items shipped today. BTW, I haven’t forgotten about the dollhouse/Renwal furniture. The professor whose camera my mom borrowed was on sabbatical and then too busy with classes and now it’s all shut down.

Other than the lovely lace slip I won from you, Jeanne, I’ve never won a contest.

    1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Laura, congratulations on your win! I did see the contest but didn’t enter.

Our local doll club was planning an outing to the Queens Treasures warehouse in August. It’s only a couple of hours away. We are probably not going to be able to go now, though.

Please send Jeanne a photo of your new doll, when she arrives, we would love to see her.

    2. Charlotte Trayer

Congratulations, Laura! I know you (and your other girls) will enjoy having Mary and her horse in your home! Lots of fun times ahead!

  11. Congrats, Laura, although I have already congratulated you twice in the other blogs! You are so deserving, and I am sure your dolls will love taking turns riding the pony! I have the AG Paint Filly, and it certainly gets a workout here! They fit in with every timeline!
So congratulations to you! It couldn’t happen to a nicer person!

  12. Hi Jeanne,
What a fun blog to read. I enjoyed reading what everyone would do with their Million.
I’m not sure if you ever received the email I sent you a while back. I enclosed a photo of my most recent dolls. You and some of the ladies wanted to see pictures, I sent you the best one… I’m terrible at taking dolly pictures. I definitely need better lighting and more patience posing my girls.
Anywho if my dolly budget were suddenly to increase I think I’d like to add a My Meadow Mae and a twinkle (maybe Patty, I love smiling dolls) to my collection. There is something so sweet about her chubby little tummy and legs.

Jeanne I had a laugh about your mouse story. Too funny, I don’t think I would have stayed around to find out what and where the noise was coming from. I’m a coward unless I’m armed with a shovel or at least a big LONG stick! lol
    Hugs
    Ingrid

  13. Thank you Dorothy, Ingrid, and Linda, I’m thinking of possible names for her and her horse.
Oh, Dorothy, I do hope you get to go to the QT warehouse. I really think their accessories are very nice. I don’t have any… until soon, but they remind me of the Pleasant Company accessories. I want to send I photo, but I’ll have to see if the digital camera I borrowed is compatible with my laptop. I don’t currently have a cell phone.
I didn’t remember you had a different horse, Linda. i though you had Felicity’s Penny. i do agree horses and the other pets are timeless.
