Something old and something new…

I mentioned that I might try and take new pictures of Eden’s red and pink floral dress, but it rained all day…it’s still raining…so they didn’t happen. I turned my thoughts to something else.

Does anyone remember this pretty bright coral and pink corduroy coat I made a while back? There was a pretty white dress with tiny pink flowers that went with it, but only the dress sold. I’ve had the coat ever since. I was going to make a new dress to go with it this past Valentine’s Day, but all that happened with my mom…

So, I decided a pretty pink dress under the coat might be nice… I didn’t get too far on it, but it’s a start. I’m trying to decide what kind of skirt to add to the bodice.. soft gathers, pleated, an a-line?

Here are a few pictures of what it looks like so far…

I’ll keep working…
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

I had forgotten about that coat, Jeanne. It’s lovely!! I’m glad you’re working on something new to go underneath it. I think that pale pink tone-on-tone print is perfect with it. It will be the perfect Easter outfit for someone!! (Hope there’ll be some kind of hat or maybe a little purse to go with it, too!)

By the way, yes, I really like pink a lot, but lavender is actually my favorite color!!

    1. Hello Miss Pink, I mean Charlotte,
I’m hoping I can find a scrap of the corduroy to make a hat. The pink looks really nice with the corduroy….now to get it finished…
      Thanks Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. That candy pink dress will be lovely with the coat and perfect for the spring fashion parade. If this sweetness doesn’t take our minds off of planetary issues, nothing will. I would love to see a pleated skirt on this one. The tailored look would compliment the coat. I can picture cute white frilly socks and white shoes with it too. Maybe a fancy tulle hair bow would top it off.
I hope to start another dress today after filling our the 2020 Census. Hope everyone does this as your descendants will thank you someday. Love family history around here. 🙂

    1. Hi Joy,
I did our Census form so I’m ready to start sewing. I’m glad I work at home…one less thing to be concerned about…
I only hav a small piece of the pink fabric, but I think I can do a pleated skirt…
      Thanks Joy
      Stay safe,

You could always just do a center front pleat, Jeanne–perhaps an inverted box pleat?

  3. Jeanne, I think this would be a really cute housecoat! I don’t think you have ever made one that I can recall, but a sweet nightgown would be cute with it! Maybe some fuzzy slippers too!
Yes, the pink dress will be perfect with the coat, and I will say, that my doll coats from AG don’t work very well with anything much underneath, since they seem to make the coats as tight fitting as a dress, so it is hard to put the coats over a dress. I just hope there is enough room for the dress underneath, but knowing you, I’m sure you will have thought of that!

Just got back from the grocery store, what craziness! No TP to speak of, and I was one of the first to get in! Others went straight to the paper products aisle and cleaned it out! I’m beginning to wonder if the TP shortage is worse than the Coronavirus!

    1. Hi Linda, I didn’t realize AG coats were made so nothing much fits underneath. I only have three- Felicity’s cloak and Samantha’s plaid cape allow any of their outfits underneath.
I also have the Sugarplum coat that I use for my re-wiiged Nellie and her Christmas dress fits.

The TP storage is amazing. If you want a laugh get on eBay where there are more than ten pages of TP offers. I threw this one in my watchlist because it was so ludicrous.

Then there were ones labeled new, unused , just crazy.
Like we survived Y2K, we could have tees that read”I survived the TP crisis of 2020″.
Got to find ways to keep my spirits up. I’ll bet your having fun dressing your dolls for Easter.

      1. Oh my gosh, Laura! They actually sold 4 squares of tp? And it sold out? Crazy!
I’m dressing my dolls, unnoticed for.easter yet. We have a flower stand and are selling flowers!

    2. Hi Linda,
I do have a very cute housecoat/robe pattern, but I’ve never made it…guess I should sometime.
This coat is finished on the inside but its unlined. A dress firs under it very easily…hope you’ll like it.
No TP around here either…but we bought s big box at Sam’s a few weeks ago, so we are ok on that.
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. I don’t think I saw that coat the first time. I love it, pink you know! 💕💖💞

    1. Thank you Julia,
It was pouring down rain last night so I had to do my post straight from my phone and wasn’t able to include a picture of the original dess. I’ll try to show it tomorrow.
      Thanks Julia,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Good Morning Jeanne,
The pink and blue dresses are just lovely. Sewn impeccably, the lines of the fabric placed perfectly on the bodice and sleeves, buttons also placed and sewn perfectly. One can see they are made by someone who knows what they’re doing. Lovely work Jeanne! Good luck on the auctions!
I do remember the coat, its so cute. The pink you selected for the dress is a perfect choice. I agree with Joy, a pleated skirt would look darling underneath the coat.
    Happy Friday everyone… stay healthy

    1. Thank you for your glowing review of the Easter dresses, Ingrid.
I think a pleated skirt is in order…
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. I do remember that coat, didn’t realize it hadn’t sold. It’s very pretty Fine wale corduroy must have been popular when I was an infant (late sixties. I still have the robin’s egg blue fine wale corduroy coat and bonnet I must have worn on my second Easter. It has double breasted tiny pearl buttons. I also had a peach coat when I was maybe two or three. It was one of those faux wool spongy fabrics, but they disintegrate over time.
Linda’s right, it does look a little like a housecoat, slightly like Samantha’s, but I don’t had that so I’m not sure. Quilted housecoats (robes) for little girls were popular in the 1970’s. I still have one of mine that is a pretty pink, blue, and yellow flowered patchwork with eyelet trim. I had a Hollie Hobbie one as well, both gifts from my grandparents, but the Holly Hobbie one wore out.

    1. Forgot to comment again on Samantha’s and Nellie sweet Easter dresses So nice to have this blog and the boards to get away from the doom and gloom mindset . Couldn’t help but think of something funny. I was remember you turquoise Edwardian dress you made one Easter for an Easter Egg roll ( my suggestion, so I would remember 🙂 . Instead of an egg roll Sama and Nellie could be on a TP dash. LOL

        1. Thanks, Joy. I have to find fun things to lift my spirits. I’ll bet your little Ardyn is getting a Easter dress sometime soon.

      1. Hi Laura,
I thought your idea of a TP Roll instead of an Easter Egg Roll was funny.
I love this featherwale corduroy too…
No, it didn’t sell the first time, but I’m hoping it will this time. It was listed as a Victorian set before…t might be for Mlly this time. I saw her “eyeing” it from the dolly shelf…
        Thanks Laura,
        Blessings, Jeanne

Dear Jeanne, you can’t go wrong with pink for a little girl’s outfit.

I echo Linda D, AG coats and 18 inch doll coats in general don’t allow for an outfit underneath.

Did you see that Giant is allowing seniors (60+) to shop between 6 and 7 am before the other shoppers are admitted? I think Karns is doing this also. What a great gesture.

    1. Hi Dorothy,
I hate a tight fitting coat! My girls will never have that issue as long as they wear a coat I’ve made!
I did see on the news that some stores were having shopping times for seniors only…
      Great idea!!
      Blessings, Jeanne

    2. Oh, .Dorothy, believe me, I did the senior thing this morning, and it was crazy! All the seniors came at the same time, and that was no good at all! You are better off to go sometime in the middle of the day during the week! It was absolutely crazy!

  8. The print on the coat is so cute and the idea of the light pink dress underneath is perfect. A fuller A-line skirt would be cute with it.
I hope the coat will have a generous Easter hat ?
. Remember how many Easters we had to wear a coat over our Easter dresses? I know I sure do …and if it was a year I didn’t have a Spring coat the heavy dark winter coat wasn’t so lovely with a hidden Easter dress and Easter bonnet. One year I made Easter coats and bonnets for the 4 granddaughters. One saved it so it’s still available if we have great granddaughters!
    Stay well!

    1. Hi Kathie
I’m hoping I can find a scrap of the corduroy big enough for a hat…
It seems like we were always up late the night before Easter…still sewing on our Easter dresses. Many times we had what we now call “cake” hats. Seriously they did look like a cake on top of our heads.. we had lots of Eadter coats too. I’ll have to see if I can find some pictures…
      Blessings, Jeanne
