A sneak peek at Nellie and Samantha and something else green…

HI everyone,
I’m sorry I didn’t get to your comments today, but I see you all chatted and commented on each others comments! Thanks for doing that!
I had another super busy day, and I’ll spare you the details about it… too many, BUT I did get some pictures taken of my girls…. OUTSIDE! They were pretty good models, but I had no idea how to get the pictures off my phone and onto my desktop, where my program is for listing things on Ebay. I did the ones for Emmie a few weeks ago, but it took me almost 5 hours to figure it out. So… Kristoffer said he’d come over and help me. Well…that turned into a 2 hour session. And, they were just loaded onto my computer. I still had to get them ready for my program! Kristoffer said I have TOO MANY PICTURES and I have got to find something else to use. I didn’t get them ready for my listing on Ebay …hopefully that will come tomorrow, but I thought I’d share a few of my favorites with you…to hold you over till then! :o)

Samantha is first in her pretty pink dress…

…then Nellie in the blue…

Well, do you have a favorite color dress?

Kathie sent this sweet email to me, and while the green hats might be ONE day too late, who cares???
“Should have taken these pictures yesterday…but not too late to wish you St Pats Day greeting from the girls!”

Then she said this:
“I actually took time to work on my own dolls this week. The antique doll was given to me by one of my customers hubby. She wanted the head put on a different body and the body painted but passed before she could pick it up. Her hubby said to keep it to remember her by and I do think of her every time I look at her. Have had the dress for years…the dress is a repro but made so well.

The compo baby is an Effanbee with side glancing eyes…she needed her arms repainted and her dress and bonnet I have also had for years and not had a doll the right size…the bonnet was always too small . I was determined to use it though so took it apart and opened the back. Love the vintage compo dolls….oh heck…I love all dolls!”

Thanks Kathie… Love them all too!

See everyone tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Well, of course I still like the pink dress better!! Blue was my momma’s favorite color, so she would have chosen that one, I’m sure. I love pinks, lavenders, etc., so definitely the pink!

Thanks to Kathie for sharing her pictures! Your girls look darling in their glittery green hats! I see they all stood nicely, without too much wiggling!

Your vintage dolls are lovely, too, and dressed so appropriately!! Good for you, to figure out a way to make the bonnet work for your baby!

    1. Hi Charlotte,
I’m still on the fence about which dress I like the best. Maybe I like them equally the best.
They are some of my very prettiest dresses I have ever made. The fabrics in both of them are just the nicest, sweetest ones I have used in a really long time.
      Thanks Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Oh Jeanne, those darling dresses look so dainty and feminine! I love the way they stand out with the crinolines underneath! I thought I loved the blue one best, but the pink is right up there with it now! No way would I be able to pick just one! I love the pictures taken in the yard! Right now ours is a patchwork of different grasses, getting green at different times. I think I see sweet gum balls in your grass!!!!

Oh Kathie, your dolls are so pretty and look so well kept. Well, of course, if they belong to Kathie! It is different to see antique dolls in new looking dresses, and I now see how pretty they were when new. Most of the time you see them in faded, stained, and wrinkled clothes. Your first picture is adorable! It looks like they are waiting for the parade to start!

And thank you to all who commented on my dolls! Aren’t we lucky to have dolls to keep us focused on happier things now? Time to change everybody now! 🙂

    1. Hi Linda,
The dresses REALLY are dainty and feminine…I just love how they look and feel…

Yes, you do see lots of gumballs in the yard…and there are just as many still left on the tree….ugh…we need to rake them before the grass gets any taller around them.

Our dolls do keep us occupied..its a good thing!
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. The photos are wonderful! Love seeing the spring outdoor colors. The dresses are so perfect for spring walk which is all that we are allowed to do right now.
Kathie’s girls look like they enjoyed a great green day. Such cuties. And her vintage dolls are displayed so nicely. Fun to see.
Good thing I was able to make a fast trip to Joann’s yesterday. Picked up some Easter and other crafts for the grands which I will have to see about mailing because it doesn’t look like we will be able to see them in person any time soon. While I was there, I found that hummingbird fabric I used for Ardyn’s dress also comes in two other colors. Of course, I had to get some. Figure since we will be stuck at home, I might be able to make something for another one of the girls. While I was there, I asked about the store staying open, and they said they would be open until the county said to close. Well, not an hour later, the word came down. Everything will be closed except essential things like grocery stores, pharmacy, bank. But, they did say, that we will be able to order from Joann’s online and drive over and they will bring out your order. We’ll see how that goes. I’ve heard that Kohl’s and Penny’s will also be closed. Maybe they will do online too. Going to be very interesting times. But, necessary to stunt the virus.
Hoped to get a photo of Ardyn’s new St. Patrick’s dress. Just when I finished it yesterday, it started raining which is a good thing around here. So, as soon as it dries out, I’ll get a picture and send it to Jeanne.
    Stay safe everyone. 🙂

    1. I never thought much about the department stores. Since my back is not keen on what I call the mall crawl (moving slowly among a lot of people), I tend to do most of my shopping online anyway, except for Wal-Mart. My son said the lobby of his bank is closed, not sure about ours here because I usually drop my deposits in the night depository anyway. I know Kohl’s and Penny’s have online. I don’t know if that means they will bring it out to you or it will come from a warehouse to your door. Can’t wait to see the picture of Ardyn’s St. Patrick’s dress. She is such a lovely doll.

    2. HI Joy,
I got interrupted before I was able to finish my comments… so here goes…
We went through town today and it was eerily empty…there were cars but not nearly as many as there should have been. It was the weirdest seeing the restaurants closed but several of them had their drive thru open.
I don’t know if our Joann’s is open or not, but one thing’s for certain… I DON”T NEED ANY MORE FABRIC for a while… I have plenty to keep me busy.
I received your latest dress for Ardyn, and I’m going to show it tomorrow… It’s adorable! I love her looks… she is such a cutie.
      Thanks Joy,
Stay safe and sane, if you can…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. The dresses are so cute. I do remember dresses like that from childhood. Love seeing the older dolls. I’m old enough to have gotten one for Christmas like the one with the cleverly altered bonnet, bald like me at birth. Thanks so much for sharing the pictures of the dolls.

Everything is closed here in Orange 🍊 County, California, Joy, except the necessities. Not quite as drastic but one step down from San Francisco. Thanks for continuing the bright spot of receiving the blog as usual ❤️.

    1. HI Susette,
I’m trying to remember if I ever had a composition doll or not… sometimes I see ones that look like maybe something I had. I should ask my sister, Cindy, and see if she remembers us having like them.
I managed to get the dresses listed on ebay a few minutes ago. They are really pretty in person. I think I’m going to hate to see them go… they look so sweet together.
As long as they don’t close down my computer satellite, I’ll be here sewing and chatting with you all…
      Thanks Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Yesterday I sent my comment prematurely because the grandkids arrived. When I went back later in the day to reread my comment I realized I had left out comments on Sissy and Linda’s adorable outfits. I was just beginning to add a comment when poof the internet was gone. I have cable and everything was gone. Oh yay! Now I’m isolated without TV or internet. But it was back on this morning so I’m good to go.

Sissy your precious pinafore dresses are the best and Mae is definitely one of the cutest dolls to outfit. And Gigi always makes me smile. She looks so cute in her pinafore dress. Linda, your girls always look so sweet and your settings are wonderful. I don’t have any PC/AG dolls but I have a Betsy and she and I, and Taylor Jane, do love seeing what your Betsy is wearing. Always so cute.

Now for today, I won’t even try to pick a favorite of these two dresses. My feeling is that if the dress fits, buy it in every color. These dresses remind me so much of some of the Easter dresses I wore as a child. I like the simple bows in the hair.

Kathie, I love your sweet pictures. The St. Patrick’s Day hats are great. I think one of the dolls is a Paola Reina and the rest look like Little Darlings. Did I miss anyone? Pretty wreath. Your antique dolls look so special and you take such good care of them.

Most of the restaurants here in the Houston area are drive-thru or take-out only. This works for me. I freaked out at the thought of having to cook every meal. I’d rather be sewing. Starbuck’s is open here in Sealy because people usually get it to go anyway. David heard today that Kansas schools are ending the school year. I can’t figure out what that means for next year. How are the children going to make up for the lost lessons since there are requirements for each year. So far mid-April has been decided for going back here with Bryan/College Station going back April 6. It will be interesting to see if and when all this ends. I have my opinions on that.

I was going to mow today but the belt for the mower hasn’t arrived, so I think I’ll sew instead. Tomorrow and Friday I’m spending with the grandkids at their place. They have more to do there and it saves me a trip back and forth. Since Sean will be on a job I would have to meet my daughter-in-law in Katy and bring the kids back then take them back and meet up with her at the end of the day – I do this in summer sometimes because they don’t have access to a pool. This way I only have one round-trip instead of two. And I get a choice of more restaurants so I’ll be bringing something home with me for dinner. We have so few choices here. Some are stressing about TP. I’m stressing about food choices. lol

  6. Both dresses are lovely, but, yes, I still prefer the blue just a tiny bit more if only having one. Of course, if you have both, well then, matching styles in different colors are perfect!. They look so pretty in their matching shoes and self fabric hairbow are the crowning touch. I have and like both Nellie’s meet and her spring party dress, but I like her meet a little more.
Kathie, nothing wrong with two St. Patrick’s days doll dress up in a row. I love your little green hats. The dress on the dark haired doll on the left is really lovely in such a neutral color scheme. I like your wreath also. I’m guessing that is made of fabric and are those shamrock shaped pieces?
Your two dolls look so darling together. It seems like big sister is caring for her baby sister.
The antique doll looks like one of those French Bebe’s, but I’m not positive.
The baby’s bonnet looks fine that way. I’ve seen antique baby bonnets that have a hole in the back cinched up with ribbon.

    1. Thanks Laura. It was fun to fuss with my own dolls….as a repair person it is always someone else’s dolls that come first. Next I have a 27 inch Shirley that has a broken leg and needs a dress. That should really be fun!
The two on the left are Paola Reina and the other 3 are Little Darlings.

    2. Hi Laura,
I’m still not certain I have a favorite of these dresses, but you are right…that blue one is awfully pretty. It is the perfect shade of blue.

I’m going to show another St. Patrick’s Day dress tomorrow too. Joy finished one for Ardyn and I want to show everyone how cute it is.

I thought the same thing as you about Kathie’s dolls. The big sister taking care of her little sister. They are so sweet.
      Thank you Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Spring is just in the air and the outside pictures almost look fake…love all the shades of green. The pink is my favorite…always has been, but the two of them together make it so hard to choose. They are just so classic “Jeanne Marie”! The slips make the skirts just the right fullness, the bows are sweet.
Thanks for all the nice comments on the pictures☺️ My girls are blushing after hearing me read to them…and Mike said I should have cropped his hand off the pic…he is a good helper when the doll wouldn’t sit by herself😊
    Stay well!

    1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Kathy, the Little Darlings and friends are adorable in their green hats. I imagine that after the photo was taken they took off the hats and threw them in the air in celebration just like Mary Tyler Moore used to do at the opening of her show. What fun!

The baby dolls are so sweet. They just make you want to give them a hug. Thanks for sharing your lovely dolls with us.

    2. HI Kathie,
I am SO glad I added that extra length to the skirt piece. It is just the right fullness and would have really been too skimpy to suit me if I hadn’t.

I didn’t even notice your hubby’s hand in the picture. I had to go back and look… it was fine… tell him he did a GOOD JOB of holding that baby doll up! :o)
Hope you are doing okay there in Omaha…
      Thanks Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, thank you for writing this blog. It is both educational and entertaining. It is also friendship building, which is just as important, I think.

In these very challenging times, it is nice to have a place to go where one can escape for a bit and be among friends and look at pretty dolls and doll things. I am glad the sofa is still “open.” I am sending dolly hugs to you and all of my “sister” readers. Virtual hugs are alright to give, I am told.

    1. AMEN!!!!! It’s definitely my special place right now. The blog is such a positive place in my life I come here to calm down. Even at this difficult time everyone here is so positive.

    2. HI Dorothy,
I’m glad you and all the other ladies enjoy being together so much! We’ve shared just about everything between us, haven’t we? It’s fun! The only thing we haven’t done is have a virtual slumber party… guess we’ll leave that to the “girls.” I’m too old for that… although some nights I do get to bed in the wee hours of the morning.
      Thanks Dorothy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. I will always pick the pink one of anything! 💖🌸 The St. Paddy’s day hats and outfits are so cute. My dolls don’t have much green at all. One green print that looked old fashioned so I made a Bunny Bear pattern.
Our county now has two cases so that has ramped up my anxiety even more. I had an appointment tomorrow that I have canceled.
My bank has the drive up open but the lobby is closed. If you need to talk to an individual you can make an appoint and I guess someone let’s you in. I would think everything could be done online or over the phone. I do it all online.

    1. HI Julia,
I hope if you just keep coming back here… your anxiety level will go down. We will be here as long as my computer stays on and my satellite works. I’ll try to keep things on the happy side as much as possible…
Stay inside and stay safe… this. will. end.
The dresses are on Ebay now… so go take a look and take a deep breath!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. No time to read yesterday’s kind comments about my St. Pat’s pinafore dresses until now. Thank you all so much for your kind remarks. The pinafores take a lot of time and hand sewing, but that is what I like to do when hub’s and I watch tv in the evenings. Wishing each of you good health and happy times.

    1. Thank you again, Sissy, for sharing those photos with me. I knew everyone would love them… They are all adorable and you can tell they take time and thinking to get the patterns just right! Thanks for bailing me out yesterday, when my day was too busy to get anything done.
      Blessings, Jeanne
