Zipping through the summer posts in a slide show…for Marilyn!

Marilyn has been away since the middle of July due to some unforeseen circumstances and yesterday was her first day back. It was wonderful to see her comments and she mentioned she needed a slideshow of the summer things she’s missed in the last 78 days. Well, I aim to please, so in honor of her, I’m doing a quick (well, sort of quick…depending on how fast you scroll through them) slideshow of what’s happened since she disappeared… I think I’ll only show the “new” things that she missed… maybe YOU missed a few too!

Back in July we saw some new ruffled slips for the AG dolls…

I did a post on my boutique overalls and it got me interested in trying to make some for the Effner dolls. I bought a pattern but had to tweak it just a bit to make it fit the way I wanted them too…This was a fun 12 piece set with lots of mixing and matching possibilities…

Navi got a dress called “Christmas in July!’

Next was a dress for Eden…she was the Schoolmarm in Gettysburg…

Next up was a few pictures of Sara back in Colombia, South America. She made the cake for her mom’s birthday…and the bicycle was the one she had when she came to the U.S. I miss them…

Next was a bit of a shopping spree for me. A fabric store that’s been around for 25 years was going out of business…the fabrics were $2.00/yard. I HAD to support them… *wink* *wink*

Susette won a slip in a Giveaway and I sent her the slip and some things to embellish it the way she wanted… this is what she came up with…

She then made a beautiful dress for her Kit doll…

I did a little rearranging in my sewing room because we gained a bookshelf… I HAD to squeeze it back in the corner… I’m still working on getting my sewing room organized for a reveal…

Then we went on the 100 mile yard sale and here are a few things we saw…and bought… the little flamingo was found by Rebecca… Navi claimed it…

I did a Sew Along and made a little girls jumper for my nephew’s little girl…

Lian got to model the next dress. It was a pretty blue print and my hubby picked the color pink to accent it!

Next is a Sylvia Natterer doll named Madleine, that I sold… She was naked and I made her a new dress for her new mommy.

Here are a few Back to School outfits Barbara made for her dolls.

Cindy helped me create a Gallery Wall (by texting, no less) in my sewing room using things I had made for my mom and myself. Cindy made the wreath, the joy picture and the picture in the shadow box was from my Aunt Bonnie.

A friend who used to buy little girls dresses from me at our local Farmer’s Market, invited me and 2 other ladies over for tea… then we looked at her dolls. She is QUITE the doll collector…

Next was Linda’s girls dressed up for an outing to the Pumpkin Patch…

Susette showed us how to use lace on top of “flannel” to keep the lace from sliding around…. perfect decorating tip.

Kathie got a new Kestner doll and we had a contest to see what to name her… She picked the name Emma Kate…

Moving onto my first Fall dress of the season, Addy won out, and here she is in a pretty orange, black and green plaid dress…along with her basket of chocolate cakes for the Fall Festival.

And just last week, I made a dress for Bailey again… it’s a sweet Fall print and we had a wonderful time taking pictures outside.

I went back through things and discovered a few on my phone… Bithar and her new baby girl, Grace Anastasia Victoria Elveus!

I’m sure I missed some things that I opened on my phone, but I need to stop. I have no idea how many pictures this is, but it’s a LOT!!

Marilyn, I hope you enjoyed these last 78 days while you were gone…welcome back!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Wow, I had forgotten just how busy your summer was, Jeanne!! Lots of fun seeing pictures again. And a big welcome back to Marilyn!

Thank you all for the nice comments on the things I made for Rurik, our new (and only) great-nephew. I did have a lot of fun making those things.

Some of you asked about his name. I think (if I remember correctly) it’s a Russian/Old Norse name, and was the name of a Viking prince, and founder of the Rurik dynasty. (according to Wikipedia and Britannica) I believe it means “new fortification” or “new city”, from what I’ve been able to find.

His mom and dad both did a lot of studies in Russian language in college and are very interested in that sort of thing, and his dad (my nephew) is half Swedish. So, it fits with their backgrounds, somewhat, anyway!

    1. Hi Charlotte,
I had forgotten how busy I was too!! A lot has happened this summer
..but not enough doll dresses made.

I like it when you pick a name that has a special meaning for you!
      Thanks Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Wow, you did certainly have a summer full of various activities and lots of fun, Jeanne! I’m sure Marilyn will enjoy this slide show, as I have, even though I was with you every day!

One little, and I do mean little thing, my girls featured are not going to school! They are at the pumpkin patch! LOL Maybe it was a field trip!! 🙂

Thank you , Charlotte, for the explanation of Rurik’s name!

    1. Hi Linda,
I changed the comments about your girls from school clothes to visiting the Pumpkin Patch!!

Thanks for being such a long time reader, Linda!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Hi Jeanne,

This was a Blog Marathon! Oh la la, the red tulle slip is to die for and loved the top, pearls and white gloves. Now that would be perfect for Christmas. I also have my eyes on the gorgeous red Christmas plaid and wonder what and who you make that for? Seriously love the red tulle!

    1. Hi Laureen,
It WAS a blog Marathon, wasn’t it? Glad you enjoyed it…especially that red tulle slip!
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Loved the show! Thank you. Funny how quickly we forget and move on to the next thing. Might be fun to do a quarterly show and an Old Year Review.
I’m sure Marilyn will enjoy seeing this. So glad she is back.

    1. Hi Joy,
As I looked back over the past 80 days or so, it does look like a lot happened, but I wish it was more.
I wish I could say it was simple to pull up the pictures and plug them into my post, but in actuality, it took me about 2 1/2 hours to do that. If I did it again, I’d have to figure out a quicker way…
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Jeanne, maybe you could set up a file with something like “year in review” or “quarterly review” as the title, and put a few select photos of each blog entry in it, with brief comments. Then it would be just a matter of double checking to make sure the comments are phrased as you want them, and presto! Your blog entry would be done.

        Just a thought, for what it’s worth….

  5. Glad to see Marilyn is back. I know she enjoyed seeing all that went on while she was away. I really enjoyed it too. But I want to give a shout out to you, Jeanne, because the first picture of my back-to-school fashion show is mainly a picture of outfits you created, except for the orange and turquoise top and the white blouse. Wanted to make sure you got the credit you deserve. A lot of work went into those.

I’m back from Colorado. It was in the 60s when we left and we watched the temperatures climb as we drove south to a grand total of 97 here. But we are expecting a front Sunday night so part of next week at least should be in the 80s rather than 90s with low humidity. We take what we can get.

I did catch up on the posts I missed while traveling and enjoyed them. I should have reviewed them before commenting here because I can’t remember everything I wanted to comment on, but everything was wonderful. But I do remember Susette’s idea for multi-size patterns. I do that too. I used to trace each size and create a new pattern but I have a pattern for shorts for my granddaughter I really love. It goes from an infant size up to a size 12. I’ve already made the size 4, 6 and 8, and realized quickly that if I kept copying the sizes it would become a very bulky pattern package, so I did what Susette does because I’ve got the size 10 and 12 yet to go. It works great and the pattern package never gets any bigger.

Could use a little downtime after vacation but that’s not to be. Tomorrow is the Fall Festival at church and both David and I have booths, so we have to get ready for that. On top of that the A/C stopped working yesterday in the parish hall where many booths will be and David and sons handle the A/C work at church so they are there today working to at least get something up and running or it could be a miserably hot day for some of the vendors. My booth is outside, right next to my son and daughter-in-law who will be selling Real Time Pain Relief – I love that stuff. So it will be a fun day hanging out with family and seeing the grandkids for the first time in two weeks.

    1. Hi Barbara,
Not to worry about who gets the credits on the doll clothes…YOU dressed the girls and saged them for pictures! That’s a lot of work too!!

I’m glad you are safely back home… it will soon be cooler weather most places…hang on a little bit longer…

I’m glad to see Susette’s pattern tip in action already!!

I hope you have s fun day at your Fall Festival AND I hope your hubby gets that AC fixed in time!!
      Thanks Barbara,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, thank you for this retrospect. I think I saw all of the photos except the one of Susette’s dolls all dressed in red (I think it’s red but my computer monitor sometimes changes colors). I love the gowns she made and the setting she used.

I will be taking tea with friends tomorrow and then my doll club has its doll show and sale on Sunday. Much excitement brewing!

    1. Hi Dorothy,
Well, I’m glad you got to see Susette’s girls dressed up so fanciful! They really were beautiful dresses!
      Oh how fun
      .
Tea time and a dolly show all in one weekend! Hooe you have a really nice time!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. What a wonderful catch-up post for Marilyn, and what a lot of work that was, but we all got to enjoy it too. I got to use my clipped pattern very quickly as a shirt I was making got to looking smaller and smaller as I seamed it up. So I made another one to take to Krish for his birthday. Thanks for the compliments on the red dresses and to Jeanne for sewing the best part. Everyone’s pictures are so much fun.

    1. Hi Susette,
It was even fun for me to see what had happened this summer!
I’m SO proud of you for making those 2 red dresses for your dolls! They really were outstanding!!!
Thanks for all your contributions to this blog…
I’m so blessed to have such wonderful readers!
      Thanks Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. I was in such a rush to just comment last night and get on to things that needed to be done that I didn’t read a single other comment. I rarely do that unless I don’t make it to comment at all. Welcome back, Marilyn. So nice that you have returned. I missed seeing your comments.
That was fun, seeing all that happened a the past 2 1/2 months in a a whirlwind of pictures.
Thanks for explaining Rurik’s name. I actually went and look it up on a name site I use. I’m one of those that like to know the meaning behind the name, hence the site I use.
    https://www.behindthename.com/
I Fall has certainly arrived here. We went from in the 90’s yesterday, to low 60’s this morning, to 41 tonight. brrr . I’m going to miss summer.

    1. Hi Laura,
I’m glad everyone enjoyed the pictures today… I never did count how many there were, but it was definitely the most ever used a post!! It’s so much fun to have readers who participate as well as read .
I will check out your link to the names…

Fall made its introduction here today too..
It got down to 54 last night and this morning it was quite a shock compared to the way it has been!!!
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    2. Charlotte Trayer

I like to know the meanings of names, too, Laura–which explains why I own 9-10 baby name books!! Thanks for the link to that site. I didn’t realize Rurik was related to Roderick, although it certainly makes sense!
