Noel is going to start off my Christmas dresses…

I thought the best way to get Christmas dresses started was to use my Christmas girl, Noel. She picked out this pretty burgundy fabric with flecks of gold. It’s a teeny tiny cotton print and VERY pretty. I hope you can see the fabric glistening in my pictures.

This will be one of those “less is more” outfits…but what I have in mind will be very elegant.

I only have a few scraps left so I’ll have to see if there’s enough for a hair bow. If not, I could always make a gold bow. My picture is washed out because I used a flash and this is the only picture that turned out half way decent.

I have a gold shimmery sweater that I’ve used before to cut up and make sweaters/jackets and I’m hoping to make something pretty for Noel.

This is probably the best picture of the shimmery fabric of the sweater and the dress…

I just might have to take things outside to capture how it sparkles. I have always loved this fabric and barely had enough to make this dress…

I’ll see you Monday… well maybe Tuesday, as Monday I’m having cataract surgery. Maybe I’ll find something in the archives for you… :o)
Blessings, Jeanne

Ooh, this is going to be beautiful, I can already tell! I like that it’s something other than the traditional “Christmas red”, too–as it could work well for any festive occasion!

You really didn’t have much fabric left!! I’m glad there was enough for the dress, anyway. If you have some sheer organza ribbon in a gold similar to the sweater, that would work for a hair bow, I would think–or perhaps there’s something else in Ye Stash that would be nice. Burgundy velvet ribbon with a tiny gold button/bead in the center might work, also!!

April Eleanore’s nurse’s uniform is getting close to finished–just have to attach the skirt to the bodice, then do the snaps and hem. And after that Maybe start on some Christmas sewing for my dolls!!

    1. Thanks Charlotte,
It’s much prettier fabric than my pictures show. I hope I can get the sparkles to show up…
I haven’t even looked in “ye stash” but I’m sure i can come up with something.

I bet April Eleanor can hardly wait for nurse outfit!
      Thanks Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Echoing Charlotte, ooh, this is going to be beautiful! I too, love the fact that the red is not the usual “fire engine red” used so much at Christmas, making it more versatile! Oh, that sweater will be fabulous as an addition to the dress! So sparkly and it picks up the gold in the dress material! I echo too, Charlottes idea of a sheer organza ribbon, perhaps used with the few pieces of material to make a pretty sparkly bow.

Maybe you could find some gold tights to take apart to make for her! Put a tiny Christmas ornament in her hands and call it “Christmas Sparkle”!

    1. Hi Linda,
Thanks for the name!! I love Christmas Sparkle and so does Noel!! I hope I can find some minutes here and there to work on it.

I think I do have some shimmery gold fabric for some tights. She will REALLY be rocking the name “Christmas Sparkle” if I make them!!!
      Thanks Linda,
Have a great, wet, cold Saturday!!!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Love Linda’s idea of Christmas Sparkle. Can’t wait to see the finishing.
Hope you didn’t eat too many caramel apples. Can’t remember if it was last night or tonight. I’m sure everyone loved them.
Be thinking of you minus a cataract. Are they doing just one or will you have the other done at a later time? I’ll be in for the same in the future. 🙂
Just to share the agony, our power will be going out this evening maybe as early as 5:00 and won’t return until probably Monday or Tuesday. Winds expected. After having to toss the freezer full of food with the first outage, that generator has really been helpful. No lights, but we have a working refrigerator. 🙂
    Happy weekend.

    1. Hi Joy,
I love the name Christmas Sparkle too, and decided that’s what this set will be called.

The festivities are now Sunday night (changed the date because of all the rain predicted.)
It sounds like you could certainly use our rain!!

I’m having my left eye done Monday and he right eye on November 8th…a Friday. I’m having lenses implanted so I won’t have to wear contacts or glasses…yay!!

So glad you have that generator. We were out of power for 8 days back in 2008 when an inland hurricane went through…we had our generator hooked up to the frig and the computer… :o) I had too…I had listings running!! :o)
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. I think it will be lovely! I like the deep red background of the fabric, and of course, nothing says festive like a shimmery gold.

  5. Hi Carolyn
    You’re so right…shimmer. shimmer, shimmer.
    I’m glad you like it!!!
    Blessings, Jeanne

  6. “Christmas Sparkle”! Definitely fits. I really love the dress fabric and the sweater fabric is going to look great whatever you make from it. If you don’t have any gold stretchy fabric, I noticed the other day Wal-Mart has girl’s tights in both shiny gold and silver.

The blog today helped me solve a dilemma I was dealing with this morning. I am planning to make a Christmas dress for Lolla Rose. All of my Christmasy patterned fabric has patterns too large for her so I need to go in another direction. I, of course, was thinking of Christmas red and green. After reading the comments I’m now thinking more in terms of “festive” rather than just “Christmas”. Thanks Jeanne for pointing me in another direction and to everyone who thought something other than red and green was great for Christmas too.

It never reached 60 degrees here yesterday. Today it will be in the 60s, 70s tomorrow and Monday then 80 degrees Tuesday and Wednesday. Then another front to cool things off the rest of the week. Hallelujah!!! Fall has arrived in southeast Texas. Well at least our interpretation of Fall.

Joy’s power situation seems to fall under cruel and unusual punishment and the people committed no crime. When my aunt and uncle lived in the LA area in the 1950s and 60s they loved it. They lived in Riverside and San Bernardino. They said the pollution from LA was becoming a problem but I don’t remember them ever having problems with fires like now. When they lived there, everyone wanted to live in California. I know I did. I visited once on vacation and loved it. Now people are leaving. So sad.

I had the most amazing day yesterday. I was “kicked” out of the house because David and Sean were installing my vent hood designed and built by my hubby and finished by both hubby and son. They wanted it to be a surprise and I was kept from viewing it until it was finished and installed. It was four years in the making but definitely worth the wait. I was told I had to leave before lunch because Sean had to leave at three to pick up the grandkids at school. Oh darn! A whole day to do whatever I wanted, including lunch. I started at the AG store. Great place to start. I bought Melody’s piano. Thanks Linda for sharing. It is amazing, and I haven’t even put the batteries in yet. I probably wouldn’t have found out about it until they were all gone. I also bought two mini AGs, Julie and Molly. I ate my lunch in the AG bistro. The AG people were a lot of fun. So I wouldn’t have to eat by myself, they had me pick out a doll to join me at my table, complete with chair to attach to the table. She also had a placemat, plate and cup that I got to keep. I never did get her name, but we had a great time. I took pictures. Then I spent forever at Hobby Lobby. I did buy some of the “grass” mats and am nearly ready to do some fall pictures. I just went up and down the aisles picking up this and that, and unfortunately some remnants and fat quarters that I really didn’t need but couldn’t resist. Then I went to Bamboo Massage for a half hour massage. Lolla Rose latched onto the piano as soon as it arrived. She’s busily practicing away as I write this.

    1. Barbara, so nice to hear that you also got the piano! Be sure to try it out so that you know it works. I have heard that a few don’t work, so they were able to return them for one that does.

    2. Hi Barbara
Thanks for the compliments on Noel’s dress.
I’m also glad you found a way to make a Christmas dress that is specifically Only Christmas. I actually prefer these kinds of fabric better. They are more versatile.

Oh your day sounds like so much fun. A little of this and some of that. I’m glad I’m not the only one who goes shopping and “things” jump in my cart! :o)
      Thanks Barbara,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Barbara, your day sounds perfectly lovely!! I’m so jealous–our AG bistro only does birthday parties now. My girlfriend Marika and I used to love to go there for lunch! We always bring our own dolls, though, and would get the use of “treat seats” (what those dolly seats are called) for our dolls. Our (now defunct) doll club went there for lunch once, several years ago, and those who didn’t have AG dolls got to have “loaners” to sit next to them. One lady celebrated her 80-something birthday, and they made a big fuss over her, and took a picture of our group for our club to have, too!

I’m going to have to check out that piano; Marika and I will be at the AG store on Halloween, then lunch at a nearby restaurant–with our dolls!

  7. Good luck with the surgery. Please let us know how it goes. I need both eyes done kinda scared as we only get one set of eyes

    1. Hi Lynn,
I know what you mean about only getting one go at this…I’m putting my trust in the Lord!!
I will let you know how it goes.
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. Cataract surgery is the safest kind of surgery if you have to have surgery at all. It makes such a difference! I had cataracts developing slowly for years but they got much worse over the last six months before surgery. No need put it off for fear of it.

  8. Rosemary Bolton

Very sweet. I love the new fabrics with the gold bits
Do you wash and iron your fabrics before you make the clothes?
I do not for making quilts and such, but for doll clothes I do.
    I guess you do too
    Happy Sunday

  9. Instead of a Christmas dress, it could be a Festivas dress! “Festivas for the rest of us!” The doll dress I cut out last year is still unfinished pieces. But that’s okay. I keep making things for me. I hadn’t had any me made clothes in decades. It’s fun to be doing it again. My goal is a capsule wardrobe, all me made.

Charlotte, I’m so jealous of your real life doll friend. I would love to do dolly things together!

My Saturday was sunny and in the 50s so I’m saying warm. I went for a nice long bike ride. Today is cloudy, cold, and windy. Glad I took advantage of yesterday.
