Susette to the rescue one more time as I’m working in my sewing room…

I’m thrilled that Susette sent me some pictures of what she’s been doing with the red fabric I sent her. American Girl, Kit is the recipient this time and her dress is wonderful. I hope you enjoy seeing Molly in the dress Susette made first and now this one for Kit.

I know Molly was supposed to be “Prom Queen” but I think Kit looks like a “Hollywood Movie Star!” Don’t you?

I’m still working getting my sewing room put back together and will finish up the school dresses from the archives. Then we’ll move on to something else. Hope you’ll hang around…

If you have any questions, ask in the comments below and maybe Susette can answer them…Thanks SO much Susette… Kit looks beautiful and I see you did the same thing with the straps on Kit’s dress… put them right over the seam… which makes the dress look 100% better than if that seam shows! Well done again!

I think this picture must be of the girls laying on the floor exhausted… Susette said she was tired of scooting around on the floor too!

Now Susette has 2 girls who have Christmas dresses all finished? Anyone else working on Christmas dresses? :o)

Well, I’ll be back tomorrow with maybe the last of the school dresses…

See you then,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Beautiful, Susette! You have given Kit a whole new look and I can never think of her as a poor little girl who has to work to supplement her family’s income again!! I love what you did with her dress, or maybe it is a two piece outfit? Love, love, love the fur boa! Just the perfect touch for added glamour! The picture of the girls admiring them selves in the mirror with Bennett looking on is adorable!

The sparkly silver shoes, necklace and barrette give the outfit extra glamour too! You did an excellent job of turning that piece of material into something to be proud of! Both Molly and Kit will be the belles of the ball!

    1. The red, sparkly fabric was 5” x 15”, just enough to make two bodices which are interchangeable. The shoes, necklace and barrette are from a Marilyn Monroe set I found on eBay.

  2. Another gorgeous ensemble, Suzette! All your elegant accessories are perfect with both dresses. I had fun looking at the various bedroom pieces and accessories, too. Did we get to see what shoes Molly wore with her gown? I’ll have to go back and look.

My next project has kind of stalled out so maybe, just maybe, I’ll get to the Christmas dress I have waiting. We shall see. 👁👁

    1. Molly’s shoes are patent leather Mary Janes. I love seeing things that other followers make. Thanks.

  3. What a treat ! How very glamorous Kit and Molly look. Absolutely stunning. I bet little girls would love to have outfits this glam for their dolls! Your detail is wonderful and complete in every way.

The wardrobe is Molly’s correct? Is the background book Molly’s as well?

    1. Yes, the wardrobe is Molly’s. I never thought she would have one, but I found one at a reasonable price on eBay and was able to meet the seller in a coffee shop parking lot in Pasadena to pick it up. Shipping would have been prohibitive and I didn’t want it to be damaged. Very lucky buy!

  4. Oh how fun! Just what I needed to see on this soon to be very warm morning. Suzette, you have outdone yourself on the lovely dresses and exciting staging. I was trying to pick a favorite photo. I think it is the second to the last where Kit is doing a mirror check with Molly looking on. It is so realistic especially with Bennett up on the bed also giving his two cents. 🙂 And then there is the photo of what’s left of the fabric from Kit’s new glitter top. Love it. And of course, the last with the girls exhausted from their photo shoot. Loved seeing the close ups of the wonderful fashions as well as the set up from afar. Maybe next time we’ll see the girls standing around the Christmas tree drinking punch and eating decorated cookies wearing their so beautifully made frocks. Thank you for sharing.
Jeanne, know you’re on the sewing room right now, but how is the kitchen coming along? I’d love one cabinet painted to see the color effect with the handles. Need a push to do something around here.

  5. I included the picture of the dolls fallen over because that’s the position they were in most of the time. I appreciate Jeanne’s pictures even more realizing how hard it is to get them to stand up. Now I know why she has to take so many to get the usable ones. Jeanne has pictures from past years of my dolls at Christmas, so I’ll be ahead of the game.

Wish we were there to help with the cabinet painting.

  6. Susette,
Those are just spectacular pictures. Both of them look so “ Hollywood” . Each dress has its own look but I guess I like the ruffled one best…I had a prom dress like that too!
Your background looks great. Love the pic of the dolls on the floor…you probably felt like that too!
    Have a good week!

  7. Oh my, Susette! What beautiful outfits! You have done an amazing job on both of them. Such lucky dollies you have. And the setting is amazing. So many props to complete the picture. The girls have my sympathy on being tuckered out after such a lengthy photo shoot. Hopefully they have recovered and are ready for more. Keep the pictures coming. I’m totally enjoying the adventure.

I’m finally collecting some scenery, etc., so I will be doing more pictures in the future. I managed to find both a Samantha and a Molly scene book for great prices and reasonable shipping. Having never seen these before, after receiving Samantha’s book I realized how really good the shipping was. It’s huge and heavy. I actually found the classroom scene I was looking for at a great price and some added features which I really didn’t think I could find. I have three more back-to-school outfits to complete – and a few more props to receive – before I take pictures. I have an end-of-the-season beach scene I need to send too. The grandkids are back in school now so I will have more time to sew and photograph. When they’re here my photo studio, the kitchen table, becomes the game table. I need to be able to keep the scenes and props up until I’m totally satisfied, so I probably need more than a day at a time.

Jeanne, will we get to see pictures of your newly organized sewing room when you are finished? We’ve been waiting in anxious anticipation. Also looking forward to more back-to-school pictures. So many pretty things.

    1. I used the bodice from Simplicity 1392 piece 8 for the ruffle on the sleeves, piece 14 and rounded the middle to make the heart neckline. I added a little over a 1/4” to piece 15, the back, as it was to supposed to have grommets on both sides as it needed to overlap for the snap closures for both bodices. I made straight straps and added the ruffles for Molly’s dress. I used 14 as it was for Kit’s dress. For Kit’s skirt I used Simplicity 3551 piece 26 and just made it longer. I always seem to make things complicated by altering patterns. The hardest part was getting the straps to cover the seams at the right angle at the shoulders. Sew, rip, sew, rip . . . Thanks for the interest.

I am forever changing patterns, too, Susette! I particularly have to alter them for myself, because I am off-the-chart short (4′ 6″), but I’m always changing details, too, on both my clothes and my dolls’. After all, that’s part of the fun of sewing!!

  8. Love all the pictures and of course the red dresses. Everything looks better in red! Susette has some cute props too! Well done!

  9. Hi, it’s me…finally.
I had a busy day so I’m thrilled Susette was able to comment and answer your questions today.
I knew you all would love seeing Susette’s new dress for Kit. I thought her pictures were just too cute not to share.
    Thanks Susette!
I’ll be back tomorrow with the last of my school dresses!
    See you then,
    Blessings, Jeanne
