A sneak peek at one end of my sewing room…

First of all THANK YOU EVERYONE for all the wonderful birthday wishes! I was so thrilled to receive them! My phone was pinging all day long with friends wishing my happy birthday from California to Massachusetts! You were all too kind with your comments, but thank you so much! 63 isn’t too bad, after all! I think I’ll be okay for 64 next year.

A dear friend, Leann, took me out for lunch to a small bakery shop in a nearby town that we had gone to once before…I love the name of it… “Rise Above It Bakery and Café.” We had quiche and it was GOOD! Then we walked the street and hit a few shops and ended up at a coffee shop called Crown Brew. I had strawberry lemonade and she had a ginger tea. It was really fun! She gave me a sweet picture that I think will work on my mantle, but I haven’t had a chance to “play decorator” with it just yet… Thank you Leann!

On my way home I visited with my mom and a few of the ladies there. When I got home it was almost time to go out with Kristoffer. We decided to do dinner with him because Rebecca had to work. We’ll do something on our “trip” tomorrow… so she wasn’t worried at all! :o)

I think I’m all set for tomorrow morning… My hubby said he wants to leave early, so I have to get to bed a little earlier than usual.

I thought I would show you a few pictures of my sewing room just so you could see that I HAVE been working in there… I’m not finished yet… (actually I doubt I will EVER really be finished in there…) but I have gotten a lot done and am loving the open space and clean lines in my room. Leann had a great idea about covering some of my boxes in burlap to make it more the same color scheme all over… I just might do that! I like my fabrics all colorful but not so much all those containers with things showing through. It’s probably just me…

Anyway, here is what I can show you right now…

Remember before?

…and now…

Following along that wall…

Now to the back wall… and the big cabinet my hubby built me about 25 years ago…it looked like he was making a coffin as he built it….

Before…

…and after…

…and just a little bit farther around that area to that funny corner where I added a new bookshelf…

…before…

…and after…

I’m still tweaking things…thinking I like something in one place and then finding it works better in another place… I’ve been concentrating on getting “like things” together and seeing how much space I need to keep it all together… what a chore!

But I’m getting there…
Well, I better get to bed… I’m gonna need my rest for tomorrow…
Thanks again for all your comments… I’m so blessed to have you as friends…
Blessings, Jeanne

It is looking GOOD, Jeanne!! I love how you have all your fabrics so beautifully organized! It just looks so pretty. Lots of my fabrics are large pieces, and many are knits, so I don’t think displaying them like that would work too well–unless I had, oh, maybe TEN of those shelving units!! Yes, I am the Acquisitions Officer of Fabric Collectors Anonymous!! LOL (And I have a magnet and a tote bag to prove it!!)

I’m glad you had such a wonderful birthday. It’s nice when the “celebration” can carry over an extra day or two. I’ll be waiting to hear/see what goodies you found at that big sale!! In the meantime, I have a sewing and a needlework contest to judge!

  2. Jeanne, sounds like you had a great birthday and your sewing room looks great! I would want to stay in there and sew all day it looks so nice. It really looks organized in there and love your Dressmaker sign, mirror, and chair up there.

  3. Oh, you ARE getting there Jeanne! Your sewing room is looking wonderful and so organized and neat! It sounds like your big day yesterday went very well, and that you had a great time with your friend, Leann! Oh, to be 63 again!

I will be thinking of you today as you do your annual trek around the 100 mile yard sale in search of treasures. Are you looking for something in particular, or just “looking”? Either way, you are bound to find something you can use or want!

  4. Looking good. About the burlap for covering boxes, however: I bought three boxes of graduating size that are covered in a kind of burlap. They don’t close very well after a while as the burlap texture is too rough when grazing against the lids, even though the insides of the lids are smooth. It’s okay but something of a slicker texture might be better.

I know you’ll find “wonderful things” during your trek. Surely people don’t think you’re going to do the whole 100 miles! Whew!

  5. This is really good Jeanne, Your office looks about like mine. Well organized with a splash of industriousness here and there.
I love all of your girls standing around in a gaggle
I bet your sisters were highly impressed —- or like mine, speechless haha

  6. Glad you had a nice birthday. Now, on to the sale. 🙂
I can see a couple of your girls laying down on the job on the top shelf. 🙂 Hope you found a place for that cabinet with the furniture props somewhere. I liked being able to see everything inside. Maybe you have it relocated. The cabinet that George made would be a lovely accent in a bedroom or any room. Maybe it can be moved to another location so it can shine? Know you have it full, but maybe the contents can be incorporated elsewhere. I really like the look of it. Good job George. Can’t wait to see the rest of the reorganization. Hope you will share. Gives me inspiration.
Hope your day is filled with wonderful bargains. Think doll furniture for your Etsy shop. 🙂

  7. Wow, you have been busy in the sewing room. I like how organized it looks, and the open space in the middle is a bonus. It’s so much work, and I can tell you have put some time into getting it done. Enjoy your yard sale today and have lots of fun!

Dear Jeanne, your sewing room is really falling into place. I love seeing the fabric all piled up in colorful stacks.

I can’t wait to see what you find on your yard sale trek. There are treasures just waiting for you. Happy hunting!

  9. Wow! You have really accomplished a lot in your sewing room. It looks amazing! I remember when my sister and I were little our enclosed back porch was our playroom. It, not surprisingly, got a bit out of sorts every now and then. My mother would take the two of us in tow and we would all work to clean it up. Once it was neat and tidy we couldn’t wait to get in there and play again. I know you feel like that about your re-organized sewing room. I’ll do some tidying up in mine once I get finished with back-to-school clothes. We will be going on vacation the last two weeks of September. We will be going to western Colorado. By that time we will be in desperate need of some cool weather. Whichever dollies don’t get a back-to-school outfit by the time we leave will be next on the list for winter attire once I return. Then come mid-November it will be on to Christmas finery.

I haven’t mowed my lawn for three weeks until today. Probably wouldn’t have had to today if not for that horrible Bahia grass. An annoyance for lawns in our rural areas. It was so dusty not having had much rain lately. Hope you have fun on your garage sale journey. Can’t wait to see what you find. Gotta go finish Taylor Jane’s school outfit. It’s too cute.

  10. Happy Friday Jeanne! And a Happy Belated Birthday as well!!!
What an adorable picture your sweet Rebecca gave you, I love it, looks like an advertisement from years ago. I hope you enjoy your Birthday celebrations. Dinners out and yard saleing sounds like tons of fun! Your sewing studio is looking awesome, you must be feeling so accomplished. Hope you have a great weekend.
    Hugs
    Ingrid

  11. Happy Belated Birthday Jeanne. Sorry i missed your important day. Life has been crazy….my health has a life of it’s own, downsizing/purging in hopes of moving to a Senior Community and my old grandson came for days.

I hope you had a wonderful birthday and a large really good cake. You room is starting to look great. It strange how what sounds like a small simple project snowballs. I’ve done that twice with my room.

    Blessings
    Sandra L.
