Which doll gets the next new dress?

I tried to figure out who I wanted to sew for next and two pair of brown eyes started fluttering beside each other on the dolly shelf. It was Isabelle and Lian who stole my heart this time.

One of the pieces of fabric I bought the other day at Sandi’s was one I had used for Isabelle a few years back. I thought I made it for her Valentine’s dress, but I just checked and it was her EASTER dress in 2010!

I thought I’d try a different style and see if Isabelle liked it as much as her first one… I only have the bodice made but I laid it out and “I’m sure” you are smart enough to figure it out from this…

So that’s it for the dolly part… but if you wanted to see a little something else I did, you might want to read this post. A few ladies alluded to it yesterday when I showed the microphone case I made for my brother. This post featured the biggest alterations project I ever took on. I wrote it the second day after starting my blog and you can see it HERE. This is a sneak preview just in case you need a push to read it!

I hope you enjoy it… again!

See you tomorrow,

I’m sure Isabelle’s new dress out of this fabric is going to be just as pretty as the previous one! I can see how that print could be either Easter or Valentine, although it does look a Bit more “Valentine” to me.

Yes, I remember reading about that huge repair job you took on!! I don’t think I would have been that brave!!

    1. Hi Charlotte,
Well, if things go as planned, I’m hopeful that I’ll have this dress finished for Valentine’s Day and not Easter!!
I guess I figured there was nothing to lose when I tackled that huge slide!
      Thanks,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Yes, there it is, the big project out in the yard!! I remember that, and wonder how long of an extension cord you must have had! It looked like a pleasant day to sew outside, nothing like now! You asked if our snow was gone, no it isn’t at all! We had 10 to 11 inches, and it’s all still there! Snow is piled everywhere! No sun and cold temps have kept it almost just the way it was Saturday! My cousin in Cape said hers is gone too, like yours, and that is just an hour away! More snow is coming Saturday, or so they say!

Isabelle is my favorite LD doll, and she is going to be the belle of the Valentine Ball! I would think this dress will be for Valentine’s Day, surely! And, surely it will have sleeves? I love the way the bodice lace looks so pristine and dainty! This dress will be a winner!

    1. Hi Linda,
I think we used a 100 foot extension cord… t was pretty far out in the yard…
We have just a few patches of snow where it had piled up against the garage and the house…but we might be getting more on Saturday.
Thanks for your sweet compliments on Isabelle AND her dress.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Hi, Isabelle. I’ve missed seeing you! So happy you have a new dress in the works. Your ray of sunshine is certainly welcomed here as we are to have torrential rain today.
Expecting the inspector. We’ll see if he arrives or floats away. 🙂

    1. Hi Joy,
I’ve missed sewing for Isabelle. She was my first Little Darling and holds a special place in my heart.
I hope things went well with your inspector!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Good luck, Joy. My sister is on her way to California to watch her granddaughter. The other grandparents live nearby, so at least they’ll be close to someone who knows the area. They live quite a ways south, so I think it’s supposed to be very wet but probably not dangerous.

Isabelle’s dress is going to be charming, and it is time to think of Valentine’s Day. This dress looks like it will go together quickly — famous last words, aren’t they? But two outfits in a month — that would be wonderful. And time for a second Valentine’s dress — that would be even better.

    1. Thanks Marilyn,
I hope your sister made it, or makes it, okay to California in weather that cooperates.

It IS time to think of Valentine’s dresses and I hope I can get another one made!!
2 dresses in a month doesn’t seem like very much to me. I used to have 2 or 3 or even 4 listings on Ebay at the same…I don’t know what happened? I guess life ha gotten in the way…
      Thanks for your encouragement!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. So Isabelle is the next lucky girl- she and Lian are such pretty dolls. I’d collect them but I have so many American Girl dolls and accessories, and other dolls, I got extremely cold feet thinking of starting another doll type.

Yes, the slide! I like how your sewing machine is sitting there ready to go. Probably the only sewing machine that’s ever enjoyed a day outside!!

    1. Hi Paula,
I know that feeling in your heart of wanting to have all the dolls you see. But just can’t. Sometimes they live at my house for just a while and then they’re gone…SO I BUY MORE!!
Silly, I know, but I enjoy them at least for a while.
Sometimes I think how easy it would be if I only had one type of doll to sew for…but I look at Ten Ping and Navi and Patsy and the thought goes away!
I think k my sewing machine did enjoy a day under the trees! :o)
      Thanks Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Dear Jeanne, Isabelle is adorable. I love her beautiful eyes. Who painted her?
Hmmm, what is going on with the slide? Why is the sewing machine outside? I can’t wait to see.

    1. Hi Dorothy,
Isabelle was a gift to me from a doll customer several years ago. She was painted by Dianna Effner herself. It was before they became so popular and had such s long wait to receive one.
I hope you enjoyed my slide story!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. I missed the last two days. Well I read the posts and comments but was trying to catch up on things neglected during the holidays so I never got back to commenting. So I’ll start off with that. I love Addy’s story. It reminded me of a scene from one of the “Christmas Carol” movies or it might have been “An American Christmas Carol” but the woman that Ebenezer Scrooge thru over for gain is taking care of injured soldiers. Next I want to say your microphone case is very clever. I think it will work very well for your brother.

I too have a family that thinks I can fix anything, but they’ve never come to me with anything like the water slide/swimming pool. Thank Heaven. The worst I get is my son’s jeans with holes (significant) in the crotch area where his legs rub together. He wants them for work jeans so he doesn’t care how they look just that they are durable. I’m not fond of mending but I do understand the need to get as many miles out of clothing as possible. I tried several methods but the one that actually fit the need, worked best and lasted the longest was a piece of stabilizer and the darning stitch on my machine.

Isabelle, the doll I drool over. I would love to have her, but every time I check out the Dianna Effner website they are not taking orders. Since I do better with Magalie Dawson, I checked out her website the other day. Since I would get to pick the hair color, style and eye color, the coloring is no problem, but I’m not sure exactly what sculpt she is. My Geri Uribe “Claire” is I think a #1, and my Fallon from Magalie is a #2. I think Isabelle is a #1 but I can’t find out from the website. Her dress, which does look Valentineish, is going to be lovely. Can’t wait to see he finished product.

I finally finished a dress yesterday for one of my H4H dolls. All five have different likes and dislikes, and while they’ll share shoes, they turn their noses up at sharing clothes. It has been on the drawing board for weeks because I was having a problem understanding exactly what Nahji wanted the dress to look like. We finally agreed on the trim, but that was only half the battle. This is the second time I made the dress and was not 100% fond of the finished product either time. I should have quit while I was ahead. They give two ways of finishing the neckline, neither of which I totally liked. Cute dress, should have been very easy, but wasn’t. If I make it again the neckline gets a design overhaul.

    1. Hi Barbara,
I could use a few days off to catchup…I got behind and can’t seem to get caught up.
Sometime knowing how to do things can get you in trouble… timewise!

I do as fair amount of patching jeans and doing alterations for my family…it seems there is as always something that needs mending.

I was fortunate to get my Isabelle before the long wait of having a doll painted. She is a very sweet doll and I just love her. She is a #1 and Lian is my only #2. Janie and Emmie are #1’s as well.
Congrats on getting some sewing done..I haven’t made it into my sewing room yet…but I’m still hoping to.

Hope you got that neckline figured out…
      Thanks Barbara,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Love the way you doubled that cute eyelet. It says Valentines all over to me. Short puffy sleeves? Plain skirt? And what goes on her hair? All will be sweet I’m sure.
I changed my pink angel tree to a pink Valentine tree after a trip to Hobby Lobby and saw all the valentine ornaments. My granddaughters love the pink tree too.
The picture of your yard in the summer looks so inviting…..let’s see 4.5 months to roses. Blooming…if we have a halfway early spring.
Have fun creating the rest of her dress….she is smiling you know.?

    1. Hi Kathie,
Thanks for your kind compliments on Isabelle’s dress. So far..so good!

I saw all those Eadter things at Hobby Lobby too. Bet your pink tree is beautiful… pics? :o)

4 or so months doesn’t sound like too long to wait for flowers!! I’m counting down the days!
      Thanks Kathie,
      Blessings ,Jeanne
