Wonderful news… I worked on the Civil War dress…

Can you believe it? Me either… I wondered when the day was going to come when I got back in the swing of things again… and this evening was the time! I’m not going to say it will be a steady thing for a few days as my mom’s house is supposed to close Monday or Tuesday and I’m not sure what all is involved in that and what comes afterward. But anyway…at least it’s a start…

When we last met… I left you with this…

The bodice was started, but I realized I had turned the lace the same way on both of the corners. So I said I’d fix it.. I did, and trimmed it too.

I also didn’t want this just to be any ordinary “brown plaid dress” so I added a little silk ribbon embroidery in the colors of the flowers to the applique on the front of the bodice.

I gathered up the skirt and stitched it in place and now it’s ready to be hemmed.

I think I’m going to make this a shorter Civil War dress, which actually was what any young girl Addy’s age would have worn. Of course there would have to be some pantalettes underneath. And with that boat neck, there must surely be one of (my) Rebecca’s doll necklaces.

My full length picture must have been too large or something, because I tried to upload it and it wouldn’t… SO… I decided to show you another shot of the top of the dress. I used the “Beauty” setting on my camera… can you tell any difference?

Isn’t Rebecca a pretty doll? I just love her!

In other news…did anyone remember that August 1st is my 4 year Anniversary of writing this blog? I can hardly believe it myself! We might have to have a giveaway! :o)

See you soon,
Blessings, Jeanne

Oh, Jeanne, it so good to see you Sewing again! (And I’m sure it feels good to you, also!)

The Civil War dress is coming along nicely; I love the touch of ribbon embroidery on the lace medallion. I think it really is a nice accent!

    Happy sewing!

    1. Thank you Charlotte,
I stayed up late sewing and it felt good! Hopefully I can steal some time away and get it finished…before Rebecca gets tired of standing in it!
      Thanks Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Oh how pretty, Jeanne! Yes, it was a surprise to see that you actually did get back into the sewing room, with all the other activities you are dealing with, and the sale of the house. Well, I’ll take it! Yes, the ribbon embroidery on the lace medallion is just the touch it needed to stand out and give the dress something “extra”! That’s something you are good at, and it does make a difference in the clothes you make. A Jeanne Marie dress is always out of the ordinary!
What? Four years of the blog, already?? I can hardly believe August is starting up shortly! I just made my first batch of pickles yesterday, and that was late for me! I was cutting up cucumbers and wondered if you and George ever started a garden this year. I remember you showing pictures of your garden at various times as it grew in past springs. I guess it kind of took a vacation this year!

    1. Thank you, Linda,
Your compliments are too kind, but thank you.

Yes, I’ve been blabbering away for 4 years and really can’t believe it. It seems impossible for that much time to have gone by.
We never got to the garden this year…first time in a really long time. But our neighbors have been wonderful at giving us cherry tomatoes, sweet corn, squash and cucumbers. It was like we “had” a garden, but just not all the work..
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. I am so glad you are back to sewing. Having the health, house and other things going on right now I can sure understand what you have been up against. Praise God for all his mercies and your wonderful spirit.

  4. Does the Beauty setting intensify the colors? The lace trim does look better when trimmed close to the stitching line. The ribbon embroidery really makes this dress a Jeanne Marie Special, and your Rebecca’s necklace will finish the outfit beautifully. Your accessories are always such charming additions.

    1. HI Susette,
On my computer screen I could tell a difference but on my phone it’s harder to see.
It was nice that I had some silk ribbon in the right colors of the dress. A dear friend brought me some silk ribbon from Japan and I’ve used gobs of it, but still have lots left.
I hope I get the pantalettes and the dress hemmed today… :o)
      Thank you, Susette
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. It’s wonderful that your made it back into the sewing room. That means you can see the dining room table and that the sewing room is back to a reasonably organized shape. That’s a whole lot of good news.
It will be great fun to see the dress full length, maybe later this week, and to see the sleeves that you choose. The embroidery is perfect. The colors look like a perfect match, and the beads add one more lovely touch. This is going to be a dress worth waiting for.
    Happy closing on the house.

    1. HI Marilyn,
I “can” see the top of my dining room table which is a really good thing!!! My sewing room still has a ways to go!
I hope my seeing days will become the norm now…and not the exception!
      Thank you so much, Marilyn,
      Blessings. Jeanne

  6. Hi Jeanne,
I’m doing a little happy dance for you. It must feel so good to spend some time in your sewing studio. The dress is lovely and I can’t wait to see it completed. I love Rebecca too I think it’s her coloring that appeals to me, she’s truly is a very pretty doll.
Congrats and Happy Blogaversary! I’m so glad I happened upon your blog! It’s really been so much fun getting to know you and your sweet family. Reading your blog and all the comments from your blog family is something I look forward to.
    Continued prayers
    Hugs
    Ingrid

    1. HI Ingrid,
I want to see “your” happy dance and see if it’s the same as “mne!” It probably is!! :o)
Thank you for your kind words about my blog. I have been blessed beyond anything I ever could have imagined. So glad you are a part of my little world.
      Blessings to you,
      ~ Jeanne

  7. Great to see the dress progressing. The embroidery on the medallion gives it so much flair.
Love your “beauty” setting. If you look at the old photo, reminds me of a deer in the headlights, and then the beauty setting, it is such a transformation. It may be because the first was just a quick pic, but the recent photos look great. I also like how Rebecca is facing to the side. Really looks like a portrait.
I think those A Girl For All Time 16″ dollies would love some “modern” 1800’s dresses. They would be so cute posing with the American Girls.
Fires raging everywhere in CA. Not here fortunately, but next county north east has evacuated their largest city. Not enough air tankers for retardant drops.
Completely forgot about the blog anniversary. Congrats to you and your successful blog and may you continue for many years to come.

    1. Thank you Joy,
Boy, you’re really trying to “enable” me with those Girl For All Times aren’t you? They are intriguing….I have to admit.
I’m glad your area of CA is safe for now…I hope it continues to stay that way. It was pretty scary hearing about when you had to evacuate before.
As long as I have readers who read what I write, I’ll continue to write so they can read!
      Thanks so much, Joy,
      Stay safe,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Happy to see you back in your sewing room again! Know the dolls have missed you very much!
    Rebecca looks gorgeous!
Can’t wait for the formal photo shoot:)

Closing escrow involves lots of signing of papers.. it will fund the next business day after the formal close . The new owners get their keys and thats it!

    1. Thanks Shara,
We’ll that photo shoot hopefully won’t be too far away. It’s been so long since I’ve been in my sewing room for any length of time, I think my dolls are all in a trance…not much movement from them.
We haven’t gotten a call today so maybe the closing will be tomorrow…
      Thanks for the heads up…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Dorothy in PA

Dear Jeanne, I am glad you are back in the saddle, uh, back at the sewing machine. I must have channeled Dale Evans (smile).
The dress is adorable. I am sure the next one is taking shape in your mind right now.
So happy trails, uh, happy sewing!
Yee hah (Dale, really have to stop – chuckle).

    1. HI Dale (oops, I mean Dorothy) :o)
Right back at cha Dorothy! I enjoyed your little play on words.
I’m glad you like the dress so far…. so does Rebecca, and she thinks she’s going to get to keep it. Yikes!
Well, I better get back in that “saddle” again…
      Thanks Dorothy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. Oh my, I’m so happy you got some sewing time. I love the dress so far; the silk ribbon embroidery really picks up the colors in the fabric. I hope you can get some regular time in your sewing room, and get some of the other priorities behind you.

    1. HI Carolyn,
Well, it looks like the closing on momma’s house is going to be Thursday, instead of tomorrow… maybe I can sneak in some sewing or something else in between.
I’m glad you like the dress so far… there’s still lots to do, but it’s coming along…
      Thanks Carolyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  11. How wonderful to see the next installment on Rebecca’s Civil War dress. That brown plaid is very pretty and the ribbon embroidery on the medallion is a lovely touch. It’s so enjoyable to see those gorgeous Civil War creations. I’m really sad that AG keeps eliminating all the pre-20th century girls.
A fourth anniversary already? I can’t believe August is almost her. I feel as if the summer just started. I’m sure you’re looking forward to closing on the house, one less thing to worry about.

    1. Hi Laura,
I can’t believe it’s already August either… it was just March wasn’t it? The year is really moving quickly…unlike my sewing doll dresses… maybe the 2nd half will be much better than the first half.
It does seem like AG is getting rid of the oldies but goodies to me… too bad… it’s such a fun way to learn history.
      Thanks Laura,
I hope you enjoy the rest of Rebecca’s dress… :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne

  12. Just remembered to look for a new post. I am so glad I did! I might be a little late but that’s okay.
What a beautiful dress! The bodice is so pretty. I’m looking forward to seeing the entire ensemble when it is completed.
Happy Anniversary in advance (just in case).
    Have a good night!
    Take care —

    1. HI Charlotte,
Thank you for being one of my readers. ..even late, you still have such sweet things to say about my dress. I’m glad you like the dress so far…
      Thank you so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  13. Hi Jeanne,

I’m getting your posts a day late, but am so glad just to be getting them.

Rebecca looks stunning in her plaid CW dress. You really can make outfits “sing”. Your work is so beautiful. I look forward to seeing the completed outfit but the way it is now is simply lovely already.

My goodness, your mom’s house sold so quickly. I do hope the closing goes well and you’ll be on your way to new “adventures” afterwards. You’ve had enough for this past year haven’t you?

And, many, many hugs and best wishes for many more years of your wonderful blog. Congrats on this upcoming 4th anniversary.

    Blessings abound.
