Kudos to Kevin and Keith…for Keen Kountertops…

I know countertops is spelled with a “C” but I wanted to see if you were awake! Now that you are….

I looked up the word “kudos” just to make sure it was the one I wanted to use…

KUDOS – “praise · commendation · applause · salutes · honor · acclaim · tribute · cheers · ovation · accolade · plaudits · approval · admiration · compliments · adulation · homage · a pat on the back · eulogy · bouquets · laurels · testimonial · extolment”
plus a few other “big” words, but I decided to keep it to these easy to understand ones! I didn’t want you to have to look up something and miss the point I was trying to make!

THE GUYS DID WONDERS IN MY KITCHEN TONIGHT and deserve to have every single one of these words used to describe their accomplishments! Our house, being 126 years old, is NOT the easiest thing to work on…(right guys?) You can’t just come in and expect everything is going to work out perfectly! I really mean “perfectly square.” You know that old nursery rhyme… “There was a crooked man…”

There was a crooked man, and he walked a crooked mile.
He found a crooked sixpence upon a crooked stile.
He bought a crooked cat, which caught a crooked mouse,
And they all lived together in a little crooked house.

…well, that’s our house in a nutshell… crooked as crooked can be… and the kitchen is probably the worst…nothing is straight and you have to be a “skilled carpenter” or a crazy couple like us to figure things out in it…Fortunately tonight we had the help of 2 skilled friends! I’m so excited and just had to show you what’s been done since the last time you saw my kitchen…

The plan for tonight was to work on the countertops… however my “little crooked house” decided to give Kevin and Keith a bit of grief tonight… those crooked walls again…

…”Let’s see… if we do this… maybe this will work… no… maybe this”…

Sometimes they all had a part to play…checking it out from every possible angle…

Sometimes they were flat on their back…

Sometimes glue was dripping in their hair…(sorry Keith)

Sometimes they were ironing… (Kevin is using an old iron of mine to heat up the edges of the countertop trim)

Sometimes it took all 3 of them to make something work…

…but eventually this is what the countertops looked like…

The corner joints are glued and drying and the big piece is just resting on my cabinet bases. The sink hole hasn’t been cut yet, but I have LOTS of countertop space now… I better make use of it while I can. The stove can’t be pushed in yet because the countertop end piece to the left hasn’t been finished off yet!

We even had pizza and Pepsi and they left with a smile on their faces… of course it probably faded away as they drove out my driveway… but as my sister Cindy just texted me… “bit by bit” my kitchen is coming along! I think so TOO and it looks SO PRETTY!

I listed my cast iron sink, my “wall” oven that used to sit on my countertop, and my cooktop stove on Craigslist today. I hope they sell
quickly as I have my eye on a new faucet! :o)

Thank you SO SO much, Kevin and Keith and my hubby!

See you when I can,
Blessings, Jeanne

Oh, Jeanne, that new countertop looks SO nice!! And the chandelier in the kitchen–was that there the last time you posted pictures? I don’t remember. Of course, it’s been a crazy week or so for me with my last cataract surgery last Wed., and then losing my cousin Gail this past Wed., and getting ready for the ladies’ luncheon at our church….and, of course, regular “life”, too!

Anyway, your kitchen is coming along so beautifully, and you are going to have a kitchen worthy of any home dec magazine when you’re done!!

    Prayers continue.

    1. Hi Charlotte,
No, your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you…Chandi has been hanging up there for a couple weeks now!!
I know what you mean about being busy…I’m meeting myself going out the back door and coming in the front!
I’m not sure my kitchen will be magazine worthy but it sure seems pretty to me.
      Thanks so much, Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Jeanne, your dream of a beautiful kitchen is coming true! Are you sure this is the same kitchen you used to have? I can’t believe what a difference there is now, and I bet it is a joy to wake up, and see what a beautiful place you have, or will have soon, to bake, cook and enjoy!
Those are some hard-working men who know their “stuff”! Kudos, indeed!

    1. Hi Linda,
I know…I can hardly believe it’s the same room. When I see how pretty this one is becoming, it makes me cringe to think back about the old one. How did I ever stand it???
      $$$…that’s how!
I mentioned to the guys last night…”I wonder what this would have looked like if George and I had done it all…” Then I said, “we’d probably still be working on it at Christmas.” Kevin laughed and said, “We aren’t done yet!!”
Whenever it’s done, I’ll be happy, they both have jobs and then come over here “after” working all day! Ugh!! Poor guys!
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. How very wonderful your kitchen looks…step by step…I’m so glad there is elation in your life too, Jeanne and George….Philippians 4:8.

    Blessings and virtual hug,

    1. Hi Becky,
      Thanks for the hug!!!
It’s almost been a blessing to be this busy with things while we are “waiting” for things to start happening…
      Thank you Becky,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Wonderful! Thank goodness for these experts. Not possible without lots of hard-earned experience. My kitchen has that kind of edging on the countertop and I really like it. Everything is coming together beautifully. It won’t be long now! Hurray!

    1. Hi Susette,
I honestly don’t know what we would have done without Kevin and Keith’s help…they have made my dreams come true…
I was working on some shelves for the pantry so I could bring my pans and a few other things back in the kitchen. One more coat of polycrylic and they’ll be done.
I liked the wrap around edges on the countertops too! Makes it a little dressier!
      Thanks Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Oh, they look wonderful! You truly have wonderful friends. You are truly blessed.
    Have a good day.
    Take care -‘

    1. Hi Charlotte,
Oh I’m so glad you like them…me too!
Oh my goodness, yes, we are truly blessed to have such great help…especially now!
      Thanks Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Well, doesn’t that gray on the ship lap look lovely with your new counter top. Really nice. Looked for the cabinet color choice, but didn’t see. Anxiously awaiting when you get to painting. And that hardware? Any decision on type/color? I wonder how long you will be without water in the kitchen? Just like camping eh? Lots to keep you busy around your place.
Don’t forget to take a break once in awhile. 🙂 And have a wonderful rest of the weekend.

    1. Hi Joy,
The color on the shiplap is called Agreeable Gray, but it’s really a very pretty and warmish beige like color. When I look at it it doesn’t read gray at all to me…just soft neutral warmth. I’m glad Deb recommended it as it goes perfectly with my countertops.

Snowbound is a Sherwin Williams paint color and you can see a few pictures of it on Pinterest…I have a little piece of wood painted with it and so far I’ve liked it all times and lighting of the day.
Washing the dishes in a rubbermaid tub in the bathtub IS just like camping! I’m not sure how long we’ll be without water…but we’re managing…
I’m taking a break right now…answering comments… back to my polycrylic shelves in a bit..
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Absolutely fabulous. It is really coming together in color and scheme. I love it and find it so exciting that you are closer and closer to having it finished. It will be beautiful and like Linda said, you will be enjoying it soon to bake and cook in. Your whole house has had many dramatic wonderful changes.
Keep us posted on updates !!
    Enjoy your weekend !!

    1. Hi Paula,
Oh good…I’m glad you like my new kitchen. Ts kind of scary making choices with everyone looking over your shoulder…especially when I feel like I don’t know what I’m doing. I am researching a lot and reading tons of articles/blog posts/ reviews…just to make sure I get things right!
I will continue to keep you posted…it’s “all consuming” right now…we eat, drink, sleep, talk, and dream about kitchen plans! It’s going to be finished one of these days and I just might be sad….but maybe not! :o)
      Thanks so much Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Hi Jeanne,
The guys did an awesome job! I really like the colors; the floor, the counter, the shiplap… everything looks like it was put together by a designer. Great job, I’m so excited for you!
    Have a lovely weekend
    Hugs
    Ingrid

    1. HI Ingrid,
They REALLY did do a great job… there are still some obstacles to solve with the countertop next to my new wall… the wall is bowed so the countertop doesn’t fit up next to it, so something will have to be worked out… not sure what, but I’m sure they’ll figure it out… Cindy suggested a giant shim… I had to laugh!
If you think it looks like a designer put it together, it might be The Master Designer! :o)

      Thanks Ingrid,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. Your kitchen is becoming truly beautiful. I’m so glad this is working so well and I’m so thankful for your wonderful kitchen help. It’s funny what you can get used to, isn’t it? Your old kitchen was fine until the new kitchen started to come together and then you couldn’t imagine how you managed in the old one. I am still impressed by the new ceiling — I’m not getting used to it and not noticing how beautiful it is. The countertops are wonderful. The pantry is going to give you so much space. Everything keeps coming together and making everything else look still better.
You and George deserve this, but how many people get what they deserve? I’m glad for you.

    1. Thanks so much Marilyn,
I saw Kevin this morning at church and told him in a million million years I never could have imagined my kitchen could be this beautiful!!!
My neighbor came over today and brought me a beautiful bouquet of likacs. I asked her if she’d like to see my kitchen so far. She came in and oohhed and aahhed and said it’s hard to remember what it used to loo like. She really liked the ceiling too.
I got the shelves in my pantry today, so my pots and pans and crock pots all have a new home.
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne
