Samantha’s Valentine dress is cut out…but it’s a puzzle…

QUICK REMINDER: Samantha and Nellie’s Blue Dress and Coat set ends this evening on Ebay. You can see it by clicking the picture at the right side bar or click HERE.

I counted, and starting tomorrow, it’s 21 days till Valentine’s Day…which makes me sad…I’m behind and I haven’t even gotten started yet. :o( Didn’t that just happen to me at Christmas? Well, such as it is, I did a little figuring… I need to allow 5 days for an auction to run on Ebay…and 4 days for it to be mailed safely to the winner, so that knocks off 9 days, and I need to knock off one more day, because the outfit needs to arrive at least ONE day before Valentine’s Day… so that makes 10 days…and if I’m counting correctly, I have 12 days to get my Valentine dresses finished… Ladies this is not going well…

Whenever I come up against something I have no control over but still want to press on, I always remember a silly saying a friend of ours in the Air Force said about their garden, “We eat what we can, and what we can’t, we can!” I don’t know why that always pops in my head, when something seems like it’s never going to work, or it seems impossible, and I’m not even sure how it relates to my sewing, but it just seems optimistic to me…somehow…I’ll do what I’m able to do and what doesn’t get finished will just not get finished. I guess it will get saved till next year!

Anyway, enough on that… I decided what I was going to do for Samantha… but you’ll really have to use your imaginations on this one… it’s just laid out on the cutting table in the best way I could show you. *I hope you like it!*
I’ll see what you “imagine” in your comments… It is a pretty “almost” hot pink corduroy…

This corduroy is fabulous and so very soft… I even used it for 7 1/2″ Riley one time… and it wasn’t bulky at all…

Well, Happy guessing on Samantha’s Valentine set… :o)

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Very pretty fabrics! They seem perfect for Valentine’s Day. I’m looking forward to seeing them once they have more construction.
Hope you have a good day.
    Take care —

    1. Hi Charlotte,
Thanks for the compliments on the fabrics. These two pieces have been some of my very favorites over the years. I love both of them and have quite a bit of the corduroy left but the delicate pink is almost gone.
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Very pretty and Valentine-like, Jeanne! Love the drop waist on the dress, so Victorian looking, and such a cheery, sweet print too! Oh, the coat! It IS coat, isn’t it? So pretty in pink! Yes, you can find very easy to sew and soft corduroy, that makes wonderful doll clothes, and it looks like you just did! I, too, can’t wait to see what transpires in the next 24 hours!

    1. Hi Linda,
Yes, that is a coat on the left. I’m working on it today and hope to share what I managed to get done in tomorrow’s post…maybe if I crank ’em out one each day, I can get a few made. :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. All looks very pretty and bright…hope of Spring coming is creeping into your work! The “pop” of the pink in the corduroy is really eye catching. I too will be eager to see what you come up with. I know it will be spectacular.

    Blessings.

    1. Well, Becky, stay tuned for what tomorrow might behold! If things keep going smoothly, I just might finish the coat!! :o)
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. These are going to be gorgeous. I love the corduroy. It has always been one of my favorite fabrics especially the soft small designs. I can’t wait to see what you have came up with but then again I’ve yet to see something you’ve sewn that was no beautiful.

    1. Awwww, thanks very much, Sandra.
I love small print quality corduroy too…
Thanks so much for your kind words about my sewing!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. The little coat top is matched so well, I wasn’t sure if it was a coat or not. But I don’t see a front opening for the bottom front piece. So, can’t wait to see how it all comes together. Definitely colorful and with the soft pink companion piece, it could go for Easter too. Fun.

    1. Hi Joy,
Yes, it’s a coat and if you look closer, you’ll see there “are” 2 pieces on the bottom.
It would make a nice Easter set, too…thanks!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Dear Jeanne, I am guessing that it will be a coat and dress, but I am the non-sewer so I might be wrong (smile). I love Riley’s outfit. I am sure you will get the new outfit completed way in advance. Some doll Mama is going to be thrilled.

    1. Hi Dorothy,
Well, you got it right this time, it IS going to be a coat. I am making pretty good progress on the coat today and I’m hoping to finish it…
      I’m hoping for a happy winner…like I always do!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. I’m glad to hear that a professional seamstress takes time to decide on what to sew. I seem to spend far more time thinking about what I’m going to make next than it actually takes to do it. I spent a bit of time on eBay and Etsy yesterday and finally did find what might have been the last pair of the darling little boots. I’ve got to get to Hobby Lobby more often. Those were a real find and no postage or California tax, ha, ha. I’ll be looking forward to seeing the finished outfit you’re making this time. Really cute.

    1. Hi Suzette,
Seriously, I’m just like you in that sometimes it does take me longer to decide what to make than it does to make the thing.
I’m glad you found some boots and when they arrive you’ll be amazed at them. They really are sweet…and so detailed.
      Thanks Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. What a charming fabric pairing, Jeanne! The corduroy is cheery and bright, and seems as if it will drape very well. Love the Peter Pan collar, one of my favorites. The dress fabric is so sweet and delicate, and looks like it has a beautiful hand. The stand-up collar and sash are lovely period features. Wishing you time in your studio to bring this Victorian Valentine ensemble to life smoothly. Can’t wait to see Samantha’s debut!

    1. Hi Anne,
Thanks so much for your kind thoughts on Samantha’s dress. I finished the coat and just took pictures of it for tomorrow’s post.
The corduroy is very easy to work with and I’m glad I picked it to sew up first. The dress will be a little more tedious.
Maybe I can make a nice start on the dress tomorrow…let’s hope so…
      Thanks Anne,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Well, late again. What sweet fabric you have chosen. My daughter had a number of printed corduroy clothing items as a child- dresses, jumpers, pants and overalls.
Samantha will look lovely in her dress and spring coat to attend a Valentine tea. I’ll enjoy seeing this one come together.
That’s to bad about being behind in sewing Valentine dresses, but I’m sure you will have plenty of time to sew other exquisite dresses for other holidays. seasons this year. If you do have time to sew an additional dress prior to Valentine’s Day, might I suggest Molly since she will be coming out of the archives later this month? I’m hoping Kirsten won’t be far behind. She’s the only one that has been archived and not returned of the original PC girls. Samantha, Felicity and now Molly have returned from the archives, Addy went straight to cubing and Josefina is still active. I’m still slightly miffed that Samantha got a huge welcome back collection although I have to admit I didn’t buy any of it because of plastic and non- period accurateness, but with Felicity there wasn’t even the opportunity. To be honest, plastic in Colonial era would have been even more ridiculous. ( more ramblings- smile)

    1. Thank you Laura,
Late or not, it’s always nice to hear your thoughts.
I finished the coat this evening so you’ll see it tomorrow… it really is a pretty corduroy.

Good suggestion about making a dress for Molly…I hadn’t thought of that…

I know what you mean about looking at the original Pleasant Company catalogs and seeing all the accurate and authentically looking accessories. There was just something about all the things that “used” to be made “the right way.”
I’m definitely not a big fan of plastic stuff either!
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne
