Sundresses for a scorcher of a day…

I told you it was hot yesterday…It was hotter today. Right now, it’s 10:00 Wednesday night and the temp is 84 but the heat index makes it feel 96! Early this afternoon it was 96 with a heat index of 110! Let me tell you, it was hot and muggy and miserable to be out in…so, we did indoor activities…Like talking, laughing, organizing, eating, telling stories, etc… then after dinner, we all went to Cool Spoons! Gotta LOVE that place! If you missed that post, it’s worth taking a look… HERE.

I know I showed my “coolest” dress yesterday and today I have something similar. Last week when I was visiting Deb, we went to a thrift store and it was overwhelming… Too many things to look at. Deb asked me, “If there was one thing you could wear right now, what would it be?” I told her sundresses… I don’t know if summery dresses are in or not…maybe I’m still stuck in my early years of wearing dresses, but I just love comfy, cool, easy going, carefree dresses! I always have…

So, I thought I’d show you a few of my favorite sundresses on my girls… I’m not exactly sure what “constitutes” a sundress, but as I was scrolling through my archives, I could tell in an instant whether or not I considered it one… Maybe it’s a lightweight fabric, a dress that can be worn barefoot and still look good, a dress without too much material around the shoulders, it has to be comfortable, it should blow in the wind, maybe it’s a dress that’s made from a sheer fabric and a slip is a must! I’m not sure, but these are the “sundresses” I picked out for you to see today… I hope you enjoy the slideshow…

If you click on any picture, it will enlarge.

My sisters are leaving Thursday morning and I already miss them… :o( We always have such a great time together…

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Those are beautiful dresses. I love the eyelet trim on Riley’s dress. Janie’s wig is one of her best. Wren always looks great in anything she wears, and your Kaye Wiggs’ doll’s dresses are all perfect for her. The rose one looks especially cool. Lian’s red dress is one of my all time favorites, and Julie is standing here, wearing Z’s skinny jeans and black and white shirt, staring at the screen, hypnotized by her pictures in pretty dresses. I think the lavender dress feels coolest to me, and every single fabric is summer perfect.

I do hope you have a couple of sundresses to wear on these miserable days. It’s just what you need to cheer yourself up. That, and Cool Spoons.

Your sisters are leaving but they’ll be back soon. Something else good will be happening in days, maybe even today, and sometime soon you’ll be back in your sewing room. Take care and stay cool.

    1. Hi Marilyn,
It’s funny, Lian’s red dress was the only one I hesitated on…but I thought she just looked too cute not to show it…
I had to run some errands today and was thinking about my post with all those sundresses. Whenever I saw any dresses, I had to take a quick look… I didn’t see anything I couldn’t live without, but it was fun to look…

We had a short visit together, but it’s always fun no matter how much time I have with my sisters…
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Jeanne, I feel your misery with the weather! I think yesterday (Wednesday) was even worse than last Saturday, when the temp was 108! It was the humidity, I’m sure, and it completely wore me out!

So many pretty dresses! I love them all, and can’t remember seeing more than half of them. The blue and white dress with daisies that Janie (?) is wearing looks especially refreshing. My Molly has a top with that same material! And then farther down, the soft blue print dress on her is especially charming! I love the way you include a little “something” with each outfit to make it unique and special.

Sundresses are just great if you have a waistline, which I seem to be losing a little each year!! So glad you had the time together with your siblings, and I guess you are raring and eager to go, to get back to your sewing room!

    1. Hi Linda,
I think yesterday was only one word…
      miserable… I enjoyed today as it “wasn’t” miserable…
Everytime I do a slides how post, I’m just positive everyone has seen everything in my pictures and surely must be bored… I’m glad you enjoyed the pictures…

I’ve actually made it to my sewing room…finally…but I’m answering comments first…
      Thank you Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. I especially like the ones on Nyssa with the ruffles sewn on the skirts. They are showing that kind of dress with circles of ruffles for real little girls on the Baby Cakes website. It’s an Australian company that sells fancy dresses for little girls to wear to a wedding or special occasion. I simply can’t believe there are still so many dresses that I’m quite sure I haven’t seen before. A book is definitely in order, especially with the wonderful stories you think up to go with each one.

    1. Hi Susette,
I’m so glad you and Linda saw some new dresses… I was sure they’d be repeats for everyone.
I like Nyssa’s ruffled dress too…and I’ll have to check out that Baby Cakes website. I love to look at little baby dresses…
Thanks again for the hint about a book…:o)
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. I marvel at the beauty of the clothing you create, Jeanne. Refreshment entered my heart just seeing your cool dresses for your lovely dolls.

No doubt you’ll miss your sisters but isn’t it great that you have memories of your sweet times together? I’m glad you’ve had this refreshment in your life, despite the high heat and humidity. How draining that can be.

    Blessings.

    1. Thank you for your sweet compliments on my dresses. I hope you saw a new one or two in the bunch…:o)
The heat and humidity may have kept us inside, which caused us to just visit more…and we all enjoyed that…
      Thanks Becky,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. I love sundresses! I especially love seeing what you sew for the Kaye Wiggs girls because right now that is who I am sewing for most. I love their long legs and slim bodies with a real waistline. I used to sew mostly for the 10″ Iplehouse dolls and similar type bodies but find I can do so much more with the taller Kaye Wiggs 18″ dolls. Anyway, did you draft your own patterns for your Kaye Wiggs girls? I especially like the last dress but have not seen any patterns out there like this (I also love and collect patterns!). I would love to find patterns for your lovely Kaye Wiggs girls. I read your posts every day but seldom comment but love seeing what you do with your sewing skills.

    1. Hi Mary,
Thank you for your kind comments on my doll dresses. I did make up those patterns for Nyssa that you liked so much…
I enjoy sewing for the Wiggs dolls too, but seem to always have some other doll in mind when it comes time to sew for someone… I guess I need to make a list of my dills and truly stick to it…making something for everyone…
      Thank you Mary,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. You have a beautiful collection of sundresses. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have them all in full size? I recognize a couple of the fabrics. For instance, I made a summer nightie for my daughter out of the pink vertical floral stripe. There was a matching one in blue for my other daughter.
Glad you had a wonderful time with your sisters!
    Have a good day.
    Take care.

    1. Hi Charlotte,
I would love to half a dozen of these dresses myself too…especially in this hot sticky weather…
I’ve seen dresses made by other too, out of that pink striped fabric…it’s so pretty.
We did have a good time…thanks!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Simply love Kit’s little blue/white number. First in your photos. Just fresh looking and perfect for hot days and play.
Hoping your high temps and humidity won’t last too long. We have our fog this morning so it’s nice and cool but will probably get up into the 80’s after it lifts.
Hope you have some sewing time for your old dollies and new as well.

    1. Hi Joy,
I actually had a matching little girl’s dress in a size 5, just like Kit’s, but sold it to a friend…
I’m trying to find some sewing time tonight…I hope I’m successful.
      Thank you, Joy.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Those are some of my very favorites and the fabric on the little Kish doll and on the blonde AG doll just speaks to me. Guess I love prints?
So what did you buy on the shopping trip?

    1. Thanks Kathie,
Riley sweet pastel print dress was one of my first ones for her and I always loved how dainty she looked in it.
      My shopping trip today?
My sister Deb, gave me her $10.00 Kohl’s cash last night and it had to used up right away, so I went to see if I could find any bargains… cha-ching…yes I did! For George. I found 4 shirts for him…normally $55 each, but they were on sale and I got them for a total of $12.85!!!! For all 4 of them. .they were $2.51, $3.44, $3.45 and 3.45!!! It was like my best bargains ever!!! When have I ever got a Dockers shirt, 2 Chaps shirts and Van Huesen shirt for this prices? Never!
      It was wonderful!!!
Thanks for asking so I could relive the euphoric feelin again!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. All the sundresses are lovely. I love the first on on Kit. I have always loved blue and white. I have a small service for four set of antique blue and white Wedgewood china that has luncheon plates, bread and butter plates, dessert plates and a square dessert plate with handles that belonged to my great aunt. I love to use it in the summer. I also really like the dress on Nyssa that is the pale mint green with roses and then the blue one below it on Janie.
We’re pretty comfortable here today, only got to low 80’s and now with the heavy shower it’s 72.
Having another round of strawberries and ice cream for dessert tonight. I love summer fruits.
Made it to Hobby Lobby today and found a cute magnifying glass in the jewelry section perfect for PC/AG girls. I have Samantha’s, but this is for my Civil War girls.

    1. Thank you Laura,
I’m glad you enjoyed the slideshow of dresses today. I’m a big fan of blue and white too…
I h as d strawberries and cream cheese for breakfast and bought a wonderfully juicy wayermelon for tonight. I love watermelon when it’s hot!
Don’t you love looking at all the little things Hobby Lobby has for us to use for our dolls?
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne
