I’ll be NICE & show you what I did on the Regency dress…

I found some time to work on Elizabeth’s Blue dress today. She doesn’t know it but Caroline will get all the credit in the title line on Ebay since she’s the American Girl Regency period doll. Poor Elizabeth… although she did get the honors of modeling it, where Caroline didn’t! :o)

I had to do a lot of “behind the scenes” things on the dress today… snaps sewn on, the handwork on the inside, the dress hemmed, etc.

I did get her fan made and added an elastic loop so she can hold it. I’ll give the winner directions for the best way to hook it on her fingers to make it lay the best.

If you click any picture it will enlarge.

Instead of a ruffle out of the fabric, I added a lace that was slightly gathered up and stitched it about 4 inches above the hem of the dress. Then I added a row of cotton lace to cover up the seam. A little spray of flowers was added on that lace.

I decided not to make the white silk ribbon go all the way around the dress, but just tied it in a bow in front and let it dangle down. There was just enough fabric to make the train drag the floor a little bit.

I still have the gloves and the head piece to make and I think I’ll be all done! Bit by bit, this one is getting finished.

I have been mulling over the names and it just might come down to how many spaces I have left in my title line on Ebay. You are give 55 spaces (I think) to describe your item and I have to use certain ones… American Girl, Caroline, Regency, Dress, Set, so we’ll see how many are left over when I get ready to list it.

Have a wonderful Saturday,
See you Monday morning,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Oh how beautiful Elizabeth looks, Jeanne! I absolutely LOVE that gorgeous lace ruffle along the bottom of the dress! That second to last picture shows the dress to perfection, with the little train in the back. Such an exquisite fan too! Whoever wins this is going to be one lucky lady, for sure!
I think you made the right call when you decided to just attach a white bow on the front on front of the dress, since it would cut the dress in half, at least to me.
Can’t wait to see what goodies are coming next for this beautiful outfit!
Have a wonderful day, Jeanne, and enjoy the summer weather, just take the humidity out!! (if you can!)

    1. Thank you Linda,
I only have a little bit of the lace left that I used on the bottom of Elizabeth’s dress. It was discontinued at Hobby Lobby and I was so sad! It’s really a very nice lace and very fluid!
You thought the exact same thing I did about the bow… it did sort of cut the looks of the dress in half and there were enough horizontal lines on it anyway.
George and I painted the spindles for all the stairways at church today…there were a lot and it was grueling. I just got out of the shower and am enjoying my wet head! It was 86 degrees when we came home just a little while ago… I don’t know if it made it to 90 or not…
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Love the details and how the train flows. Just looks so water like. 🙂
Fog is in this morning, but should lift early.
    Have a wonderful weekend.

    1. Thank you Joy,
I’m glad you like the train. I wish I had had more fabric and could have made it a bit longer…
Our weekend has started out pretty hot…and I think it’s supposed to stay hot…
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Elizabeth’s dress was lovely yesterday, but oh my goodness, the addition of the deep lace at the hem took it to a new level! Lest I betray my preference for Regency gowns, this one with the train is simply breathtaking, and I love how the flowers at the hem echo those on the bodice and sleeves. It’s those little details that make your ensembles so special, Jeanne, and your designer’s eye always ties things together so well, creating the perfect balance. The little fan is such a charming addition with all the blue beading, and as noted previously, Rebecca’s necklace looks so pretty on Elizabeth’s lovely long neck, calling attention both to her beautiful blue eyes and the beaded bodice of her dress. Whatever name you choose, Jeanne, this outfit is truly a masterpiece!

Looking forward to Monday and the finishing touches on Elizabeth’s dress set. Wishing you a wonderful weekend filled with pleasurable pastimes, including sewing, of course!

    1. Thank you so much Anne!
What sweet things you shared about Elizabeth’s dress. I’m so glad you like it…me too!
Well I’ll take the “pleasurable” activity of sewing…but we did painting on the church stair rails today. It was far from pleasurable…but needed done.
      Thanks Anne,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. That style is so flattering and the pretty blue and laces are giving it an individual look all of its own. I just know whatever you make for her head will set it off!

    1. Thank you Kathie,
I thought her dress looked pretty flattering on her body too! Glad you noticed it!
I better get on that head piece.
      Thank you Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Elizabeth looks beautiful in this ensemble. The fan is extra fancy and I love the edging of lace around the bottom of the dress. All the beading and necklace really make it sparkle. Well, I guess you have to list it as for Caroline because of people looking for AG period clothing. Personally, I think Elizabeth makes a great Regency girl and as you know, I have made my renamed Caroline Civil War. I really like the idea of freeing a doll from her collection and creating her to be any imaginary character you wish. I can’t seem to do that with the original PC girls ( Kirsten, Samantha, Molly, Felicity, Addy and Josefina ) because of reading the books often, but with those that came later it’s very easy. Since Elizabeth doesn’t look like book Elizabeth, I never could connect her to Felicity anyway, but I get past it for the movie.
Hope you’re having a wonderful weekend.

    1. Thank you Laura,
I’m glad you are liking the way Elizabeth’s dress is coming along…
I have been looking at Caroline dolls but I really don’t need her. I do like the way Elizabeth looks in my dresses.
      Thank you for your compliments,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. I love this lovely dress too. I agree that Elizabeth is a fine stand in for Caroline.
I wonder if after all that painting, you’ll end up in the sewing room creating a lovely hair ornament to go with this dress. I, for one, intend to check in tomorrow just to see if you’ve left us a picture. Don’t feel obligated. You’ve done more than enough for one day.
Our weather today is just about ideal. Humidity is not really a Colorado thing.
Take care, and have a very nice Sunday.

    1. Hi Marilyn,
I don’t think you’ll find a post tomorrow as there has been no activity in my sewing room. We both took a shower, had a salad for dinner and now we are vegging on the couch watching “The Magnificent Seven.” It’s a western show that we sometimes watch…
      Have a happy Sunday…
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. Here I am on Sunday morning, checking to see what you ended up doing. It was a worthy choice, don’t you think?
Happy Sunday to you and your family and anyone else who checks in.

  7. I’m taking another peek at this lovely Regency gown, too, Marilyn! Sunday blessings to all!
