A new wig for a new look…

First of all, I wanted to thank you again for your kind words about my cupcakes… I had never decorated anything like that before…usually just flowers on top of cupcakes, but never dog heads. Well, it was all worth it when I took them over to Sara and saw the look on her face. It was priceless. She hugged me several times and kept saying thank you, thank you! Her dad asked her to take the saran wrap off so he could film them. I think he was doing a little video of them…going round and round the pan, making sure he got every one of them. Well, I left there knowing I had succeeded and Sara was happy with them. Her party was going to be at 4:30 and she could hardly wait for the kids to get there.
Her mom was still at school, but Sara took a picture and sent it to her… Well, I got a phone call, and her mom was stunned. She had no idea I was going to make them like this.. she thought maybe a few dog looking cupcakes and the rest just iced. She showed her boss the picture Sara had sent and her boss wanted to know if she could hire me to make some “kitty” cupcakes for her daughter’s birthday party. Oh my… I think I’ll stick with dolls…

Anyway, when Alba got home she sent me this picture…with this little note…”Look what Sara did, she hid/reserved or booked these for herself.”

Then a few minutes later, I got this text from Sara’s mom… “To tell you the truth, I also helped.” I had to laugh! What a great start to my day!

Then later on in the afternoon, I received this picture… Oh how sweet, isn’t it?

~~~~~
Last week I won an auction on Ebay for a bobbed wig because I thought Janie needed one in red. She has a long red wig with the banana curls but she needed something new and fun for Spring. I got it for a really good price too! That always helps! Here it is on Janie… she looks great in it, because she has those peachy tones in her skin. She liked modeling it for me…
Now isn’t she sweet in it? Well, I got to thinking how fun it would be if Noel could join her with a red headed wig of her own for when I make a sister set. I didn’t have the right size wig for Noel (she wears a 5/6 and this is a 7/8) but I put it on her anyway just for looks…
…and when I saw how cute they could be together, I thought, maybe I better find a red wig for Noel in the right size. That got me to thinking about what fabric would look best with the wigs and their coloring. I held Janie up to my blue and green fabrics and decided with their blue eyes, the blues won out.
Well, it just so happened that last week I was thinking about those “sister sets” and wondered if I could make my own hat mold like the one I use for my Little Darling dolls. I bought the hat mold for them, but decided to pick up some Sculpey (it’s like a modeling clay that you bake and it hardens), and try my hand at sculpting a hat mold. I fashioned it as best I could, baked it and let it cool. I could hardly wait to see if it was the right size for Noel after I made a hat. Well, it worked!!! It made a perfect little hat, so now I can easy go forward with hats for both girls to go with whatever dresses I make.
I had this blue fabric that I’ve used for Janie before, but it was several years ago. I also had some little paper roses that were a PERFECT match to the fabric. I’m not sure this set will be next, but it’s “coming up soon!” I might have to find the perfect wig for Noel… but then it will be a go!
My pictures make the hat look a little pale, but it’s just a pretty light blue.
Now won’t that make a sweet sister set? I can hardly wait to see it made up.
Okay, one last thing… Eden’s 1950’s dress ends Sunday evening. I may put a reminder post up tomorrow, but just didn’t want you to forget…
  1. Sometimes all the different things you do just leave me speechless, Jeanne! Oh, I know Sara and her friends AND family just loved those darling cupcakes! So cute that they saved some for themselves for after the party! I’d do that too! And I’m with you for not doing the kitty cupcakes, although it WOULD be darling! But—-your kitchen!!
    Love Janie’s new wig! I am confused, how is Isabelle different than Janie? They are both LD dolls, but ??
    I too, think that the blue fabric looks sweet, and will be perfect for the sister sets, although Janie and Noel would look like little Irish girls in the green! On to the next holiday!!
    It is lightly snowing now, and the grass and shrubs are covered, but so far, the roads are clear!
    1. HI Linda,
      It’s funny… I just got another text from Sara’s mom… She showed the cupcakes to her Brazilian neighbor and she asked if she could hire me to make cupcakes in July for her daughter’s 1st birthday! I think there’s a need for cupcake people around here! :o)
      The Little Darling dolls come blank… they are just a mold and then the artists paint them. Dianna has 3 different sculpts… the #1 sculpt is like Isabelle and Janie, with bigger eyes… The #2 sculpt is like Lian and the more squinty eyed dolls… and the #3 sculpt is a smiling doll face. All of the Little Darlings you see are one of these 3 sculpts… just painted differently. It really is amazing how one particular sculpt can be painted so many different ways and look like so many different dolls.
      Here is one I saw last week on Ebay. This blank doll sold for $600. The lady who sold it had planned on painting it, but never got around to it. So now the new owner can paint it however they like.
      My girls would have looked great in green together, too bad I was too busy for St. Patrick’s day dresses. Maybe next year!
      It’s been lightly snowing here today too… more for later they say.
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne
  2. I just knew Sara would love the cupcakes, but I don’t blame you for not wanting to make them for everyone. It would certainly cut into your sewing time. Janie’s new wig is adorable on her, and that is absolutely one of my favorite styles on the LD’s. I recently got one just like from eBay but in an ash blond. I don’t think I have any wigs in the carrot red, but maybe I should keep it in mind next time I am shopping. The blue fabric will be very pretty on both girls and will be a good spring color. I smiled at the part about Sculpey clay. The reference is kind of ironic because I have plans today to get some at Hobby Lobby. I want to see if I can make some little “chocolate” bunnies for dolly Easter baskets. Have a good weekend!
    1. HI Carolyn,
      Yes, Sara and her mom and dad really liked the cupcakes! You are right…making cupcakes would certainly cut into my sewing time and we can’t have that, can we? :o)
      I love the little bob wigs too… they look dressy but they aren’t too overwhelming on the dolls either! It’s not quite as orangy as it appears. In fact, last night when I was looking at reddish wigs, I wondered if this one was auburn or carrot…fortunately the lady who sent it to me had the tag with it… and it was carrot.
      Sculpey is fun to work with and I hope to make another hat mold again. I enjoyed trying it… If you get your bunnies made, let’s see them okay?
      Blessings, Jeanne
  3. Jeanne, it was wonderful to see those creatively cute cupcakes that you made for Sara. Who wouldn’t be overjoyed to view such artwork and done with so much care in the process.
    Your little dolls are going to look so special in their new wigs/hats/dresses. Creative cupcakes, sumptuous sister sets…come to IDreamofJeanneMarie to see “it all”…or alot anyway!
    Trusting your weekend is blessed.
    1. HI Becky,
      I’m glad you enjoyed seeing the cupcakes for Sara. I enjoyed making them and it was the highlight of my morning taking them to her. It’s all about memories while they are here in the US.
      You are too kind with your compliments… I appreciate you being part of my little “blog family!” I wish we could all get together somehow… *sigh*
      I hope you have a great weekend too.
      Blessings, Jeanne
  4. I’m so glad the “pupcakes” were well received. It makes all the work worthwhile to see their happy faces.
    Janie’s new little wig is so cute! I agree that you need one for Noel too (correct size, of course).
    Oh my gosh! Look at all the beautiful fabrics!! Your choice with the little blue roses is perfect. The hat you made is great! On my monitor, I can see it is a pale blue. It will be a great accessory with the dresses. Overall, you will have a beautiful sister set.
    Hope you have a great day.
    Take care.
    1. HI Charllotte,
      I think “well received” might be an understatement. I’m sure it will be a memory for them for a long time. I hope so. They are a very special family! I can’t even imagine how I’m going to feel when they go back to Columbia when Sara’s mom finishes school.
      I think I’m going to get the same wig for Noel as I have for Janie. I was debating about getting a different style, but I think matching wigs might be cute.
      The fabric, the roses, the hat braid, is all a perfect match. I was more than pleased to pull this set together. It will be sister time soon!
      Thanks Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne
  5. I’m so glad they had more cupcakes than they needed so that they could share some and keep some for themselves. Doesn’t it make you feel good to have your work so appreciated. You did so much work, and baking disappears so quickly. You do have all the pictures — yours and theirs — and all the memories, and you know Sara will remember the cupcakes forever. This also helps balance the anti-immigrant behavior that we read about every day.
    In Women’s Studies we considered that every decision was important — the demand for organic food means we all have more access to it — the reception Pleasant Rowland got for dolls that looked like girls and had empowering stories meant that girls learned more about girls and their history — when women show up in the millions to march, possibilities become realities. You made one girl happy, and her family, and yours, and all of us. We can move in the direction of good — or not good. You are part of the movement in the right direction, and who knows what will come of it?
    Do keep Janie and Noel in mind for St. Patrick’s Day next year — Linda is right that they’d be lovely Irish sisters. This year they can celebrate spring together. While you are getting a red wig for Noel, maybe you should consider a brown one so Noel can also be sisters with Isabel. Does Janie wear a 7/8 wig? With or without a wig cap? Sophie definitely needs a new wig.
    1. HI Marilyn,
      I got to thinking… I wonder how long they will just “look” at the cupcakes before eating them….maybe just a few days… I bet these cupcakes have had the biggest photo shoot of any cupcakes ever. And I’m sure they have been sent to Columbia too! :o)
      Who knows what cupcakes can accomplish? *sigh*
      It was my total pleasure to make these for Sara…
      I will keep the girls in mind for St. Patrick’s Day next year… especially when I get a new red wig for Noel. I should have been thinking ahead…
      I think a brown wig might be in order too, so she can model with Isabelle. A girl can never have too many wigs! :o)
      Yes, Janie wears a size 7/8 wig. Noel can wear a 5/6 or some 6/7’s… depending on how much you want to pull and tug to get them on. I personally don’t like too much hair on the dolls, so I tend to go with the smaller size as long as it has an elasticized wig cap band.
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Have a wonderful day,
      Blessings, Jeanne
  6. From cupcakes to hat molds. Love it!
    The measurements I have for Boneka/Effner dolls are:
    Head size
    Monday-6.7
    Tuesday-6.29
    Thursday-6.5
    So, I was under the impression that they wore a size 6/7 wig? I know LD’s wear a 7/8.
    Anyway, the girls are a couple of cuties in those red wigs.
    In the first photo of the fabric (lovely) I like the one on her left 6 from the bottom. Sort of a zig zag with red roses. Looks very interesting.
    The new fabric/hats/flowers for an upcoming outfit will be exciting too. Love the blues and those sister outfits.
    Hope the weekend treats you well.
    1. HI Joy,
      The little wig that came on Noel is a 5/6 and it fits her perfectly. There is no name on the wig, so I’m not certain what company made it. I might look at the 6/7’s and see if there are any more choices before I buy one.
      The fabric you are referring to can be see in both pictures… it’s red and blue and white in the “blue” shot and green and white and burgundy in the “green” shot. Here are 2 pics when I used the red and blue…
      Kirsten in blue diamonds
      Elin in blue diamonds
      Thanks Joy,
      Have a great weekend,
      Blessings, Jeanne
      1. Wow, now I like that fabric even more. Thank you so much for the photos! Picnic/4th of July sister sets?
        Wasn’t trying to second guess you on the wigs, but I too have been looking at wigs for a future Effner/Boneka and thought they wore the 6/7, but I’m guessing that if they have that stretchy cap they would work in a 5/6. I don’t like the big hair either.
        1. Hi Joy,
          I checked Ten Ping’s Doris wig and it is a 5/6 and I can’t get it on Noel’s head so I decided to get the Doris wig in the 6/7 size…just wanted to let you know.
  7. The red wigs on the “sisters” are so pretty. What a vibrant red too. I love that color of hair. The material looks beautiful up next to the girls and would make lovely matching dresses.
    I can’t believe how neat your stash of the blue materials are in the one picture. I don’t know how to sew at all but I sure like looking at material and envisioning what it could become in an outfit.
    Little Sara was certainly happy with her cupcakes. Maybe some day she’ll learn to decorate cupcakes or cakes. (and sewing). Besides her parents, she has you as such a wonderful role model. ; )
    1. HI Paula,
      Both dolls have great skin tones that lean toward the peachy colors, so these red wigs look lovely on both of them.
      I think they will look very pretty in the blue fabric too!
      I like looking at fabric stashes too… you’ll find me doing that quite often when I see a picture of someone’s fabric… guess it’s just the seamstress in me.
      She made cupcakes at my house for the first time in her life 2 years ago. It was really fun having her and her mom over and making them. They are very special to me…
      Thanks Paula,
      I hope your weekend is fun filled!
  8. I’m so glad Sara and her family have you and your family as special friends. They are special people as well. Love the pupcakes. You are something else in the creativity department. The hats are just amazing as well.
    Thanks for the tutorial on the Diana Effner sculpts for the dolls. The wigs make the same sculpt look so completely different. Lian is my favorite after my LD doll, so it’s wonderful to think I could actually have a Lian someday. I didn’t realize that she was the #2 until just the other day. There are not many Asian dolls available and Riya’s Auntie Suemae is Chinese, so it would be fun to have a Lian doll. I copied all of the info about wigs into one email to myself so I could find it easily. Thanks, Joy and Marilyn, for the questions and Jeanne for the answers.
    1. Hi Susette,
      We are the ones who are blessed so much by Sara and her family. I got another text from Sara’s mom today saying they were out and ran into a friend of theirs. Well, they ended up seeing the cupcakes too, and thought they were great. Apparently, the fun just keeps going on and on for them. I have something fun to share about this on Monday… It’s so sweet!
      Maybe some day you will have your Asian doll… I sure do love my Lian and she’d be one of my very last to go if I ever had to sell them.
      I got 2 wigs ordered for Noel today. I found that carrot one and a brown one… someone put it in my ear that I should get a brown one so she could model with Isabelle.. *sigh* I had to get it! But it will have to be restyled as it’s a sausage curls one…
      Well, I better get in the shower… we never got any more snow today than just a light dusting and I was happy!
      Thanks Susette,
      blessings, Jeanne
