Can you help me decide “Who wears the Regency Dress best?”

Well, I made some headway on the Regency dress and got the lace sewn on the front, it’s hemmed and the snaps are on the back. It still needs to be “embellished” and a silk ribbon added… Rebecca is going to make me a pretty Regency style necklace to go with it…and I still have to figure out a head piece for this dress. When I get it all finished, I may decide it needs a pair of fingerless gloves…we’ll see…

As I mentioned yesterday, I started out fitting the dress on Rebecca, but thought maybe it might look nice on my raven haired Eden and then Marilyn suggested she would like to see it on Elizabeth. So I did just that… I tried the dress on all 3 of my girls who could work for the Regency period. Now I’m more confused than ever…it looks good on all of them, but maybe there is one doll who wears it that stands out to you more than the others. Keep in mind that their hair has not been done yet and there is no headpiece yet or added finishing touches to the dress, but let me know who you like it best on and leave me a comment or send me an email…

I want to get it on the right doll before I list it on eBay.

Okay, so here are some pictures for you to see… If you click on them they will enlarge.

Here’s the dress on Elizabeth…

I tweaked the back of my Regency dress pattern and made the train a little longer and wider so now it’s the nicest train I’ve ever had on a dress. It drags on the floor and puddles very nicely!

Next up modeling the dress is Rebecca…

…and here’s Eden in it…

I found this piece of trim in my stash and just had to loop it around Eden’s neck to see how a necklace is going to look… It is pretty but one of Rebecca’s necklaces will be nicer…

Okay, so here’s a collage of the 3 girls again. Who do you think wears it best?

Can’t believe I’m actually the first to leave a comment, Jeanne! Usually I don’t see it until many people have already commented.

Anyway, it’s lovely on all three, but I like it best on Elizabeth; we blonds look good in purple!! 😉

    1. Thanks Charlotte,
Actually I was hoping it would be Elizabeth. When I first put it on her, I wasn’t sold, but when I got the rest of the dress finished, I loved her in it…and she has the best hair to style…
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Good morning, Jeanne! It looks like I will be the one starting the voting! Well, after much thought, I pick Elizabeth! Actually, it looks good on all three, but I think with Elizabeth’s light hair, it actually makes the outfit look more like “spring/summer”. Also I love how you do her hair up, (I know it isn’t really fixed here) and I think any hairpiece you make will show up better on her hair than the darker hair. So that’s what I think, although I’m sure others will have a different take on it.

Did you see the little girl from Carbondale on “Little Big Shots” last night? So cute and very funny! Do you know her? That is the cutest show!

    1. Excuse me Charlotte, but your reply was not showing up when I wrote mine! We must have been on at the same time—you win!

That’s okay, Linda. I’m in the Seattle area, so it was 3 in the morning when I posted, just before I headed to bed!!

Anyway, it seems that great minds think alike!!

    2. HI Linda,
Thanks for voting for Elizabeth. She has a longer neck and it makes her seem like she’s standing up taller so the dress looks sleeker on her… As I’ve glanced down through the comments, it looks like Elizabeth wins it hands down… how’s that for being snubbed from the start and then brought back?
Elizabeth does have the best hair for me to fix up so we’ll see…

I just saw part of the show… but didn’t notice where the kids were from. What did the little girl from Carbondale do? maybe I did see her… It is a cute show… is it new? I’ve never seen it before.
      Thanks Linda,
      blessings, Jeanne

      1. The little girl from Carbondale was featured on you tube and danced with her mother. I think it was more of the second half of the show, she was really cute, and had her front teeth missing! Steve Harvey spent time talking with her on the couch, so funny! Yes, it is a fairly new show, maybe on now abut 4 weeks. I never miss it!

    1. Thank you Ann,
You were straight to the point… Elizabeth it is for your vote!

At this point, Elizabeth wears it best, but I think some of what I like is her hair style. Now I want to see it on all three girls, but with their hair up. I do see that asking you to take time out to completely style all three dolls with hair, hair accessories, necklaces, and gloves would mean slowing you down considerably, which is not fair.
I just went back and reviewed the whole set of pictures. I think you’ve found a color and style that is universally becoming. I’m looking forward to see what you do today to finish it.

Cicadas are back in the news. Surely you won’t have more this spring or summer? The article mentioned Ohio and nearby states. You have a one state buffer, and states are pretty big. How are the ladybugs? We also need a chicken update, and a foot update. But no more pictures of bugs, and the sensible woman who dislikes them — Jan? Jena? — should skip your answer to me, being warned in advance, and I promise not to ask again for at least two weeks.

    1. Hi Marilyn,
I love ladybugs and they even come in sometimes. I just put them in a container with a damp paper towel and when I’ve caught the five or six that make it in for the day… out they go to the garden. I live in Ohio and I hope we will be somehow bypassed by the cicadas. We are already planning how to save the cherry and apple tress as well as the redbud as they can do a lot of damage. My mom mentioned the ones that were here in 1970. She said in some places they were six inches deep and the street sweepers would come and collect them. Yuck!!

    2. HI Marilyn,
Yes, I think I can make Elizabeth’s hair into the prettiest styles and she has that extra long neck that makes her seem taller to me…
I don’t know if I can get all 3 girls dressed up or not, but I might give it a try…

Oh no… not the cicada’s again… I pity the people who have them this time…
George is working on a fly pen for the new little chicks… I’ll update soon… and my foot is still doing okay. I’m still very careful when I walk outside, but it’s going to be okay, I think…
      Thanks Marilyn,
      blessings, Jeanne

    1. HI Connie,
Well, there must just be something special about Elizabeth in that dress… she has always been my go to girl for Regency dresses and I guess it seems she always will be!
      Blessings, Jeanne

    1. Thanks for your vote for Elizabeth or Rebecca, Christine. It looks like Elizabeth is the true favorite from my readers…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Hi Jeanne,

The dress is very lovely in purple and I vote for Elizabeth. Her coloring looks so nice with the purple.
Now that I’m back, I’ve been working hard in my doll room. It is very hard knowing how to place furniture that will enable me to enjoy my dolls even more as well as work in a long skinny room. I’m sorting through dolls (not the American Girls) and using the method of “keep, maybe, or donate”. I’m having fun.
    Blessings!

    1. Hi Paula,
I have been obsessed with finding a new cabinet/dresser/chest of drawers to use in place in my cutting table. I want something with lots of little drawers to organize my things in. I have so many small categories of things and would like to be able to pull out a drawer and see it all in one place…
I hope you’re having fun organizing in your doll room… sounds like fun to me…
Thanks for your vote for Elizabeth,
      blessings, Jeanne

  5. The Regency dress is beautiful. I love the longer, wider train you’ve created. All three look lovely in it, but I think Elizabeth with her longer hair and tendrils wears it the best.
The trim you have on Eden’s neck is pretty. Perhaps you could use it on the headpiece.
Can’t wait to see the finished dress. You are just cranking them out one after another and that is really fun to watch.
As I wrote to Marilyn, the cicadas are coming our way.. ladybugs are fine, cicadas NO!

    1. Thanks Laura,
I have had the trim around Eden’s neck draped in Elizabeth’s hair and may use it on the headpiece… I wish Rebecca would hurry up and get home so I could see what kind of necklace she plans on making for this dress.
I have been busy… trying to get that root canal and crown paid off! :o)
      Thanks for your vote Laura,
      blessings, Jeanne

  6. I must have Hawaii on the brain, but I can see the outfit on any of the girls. Hair down long. Flower behind the left ear and a traditional Hawaiian lei. Maybe an arm extended holding extra leis for greeting guests.

    1. HI Joy,
I think you’ve got “Hawaiian Fever” maybe… If I had time I’d create a little Hawaiian photo shoot just for you! :o)
Sometimes when you see something one way, you can’t see it any other way…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Do you ever show a dress on three different dolls to widen the buyer pool in case someone does not have an imagination. Since it is designated a Regency dress, the hair should be up like Elizabeth’s and it would look great on any of the three.

    1. HI Susette,
Depending on my time, I might try and make all the girls get in at least one picture so people can see the dress on another doll besides Elizabeth… you’re right, some people with no imagination can’t see it on any doll except the one it’s on…
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. I think Elizabeth is winning by a landslide! I actually like the purple on her despite her light hair. I think once you have the hair up and a headpiece, it will look lovely on any model!!

    1. HI Karen,
Thanks so much for your kind words about the dress set. I hope to make Elizabeth a stunning Regency girl by the end of the day…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Jeannie B. in TX

Eden all the way. The color contract with her dark hair makes the dress stand out.
I think the blonde and medium brunette hair does not have the same impact.
    imho
    Love the purple !!

    1. HI Jeannie,
Well, I hate to say it, but you’ve been outvoted from everyone else… It appears it’s a hands down win for Elizabeth… I think I’ll have to try again sometime with Eden as my Regency but not “ask” just show the picture with Eden wearing the dress.
Thanks for your input though… I love this purple fabric too…
      blessings, Jeanne

  10. Happy Monday !
I like both Eden and Elizabeth in purple
If I had to choose one then I think Elizabeth!
The changes on the train are wonderful ….it just lays so well and the width is good too. The green with the purple will make the perfect necklace all in all it is going to be stunning?

    1. Thank you Kathie,
I think Elizabeth gets to be the model on eBay…she got way more votes than I expected…
I do like the new train better too…nothing worse than a skimpy train!
      Thanks so much Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  11. I really like Eden in it best. She’ll need a
trip to the stylist for an up do. Just my thoughts

    1. HI Lynne,
Well, Eden certainly looks pretty in it, but I’m afraid Elizabeth won out this time… maybe next time Eden can be my model… Of course she’d have to have her hair put up…
      Thanks for your comments…
      Blessings, Jeanne
