First things first again… Happy Grandparents Day to all you out there with grandchildren. You are very special in the eyes of those little ones you’re around. Keep up the good (hard) work!
Our Anniversary trip out of town was very nice… the weather cooperated and didn’t rain; it was slightly overcast so no sunglasses were needed; and the temperature was only in the mid 70’s! We hit lots of places, but my favorite place today was a little quilt shop called “Quilter’s Alley.” It’s just a quaint little shop down by the riverfront in Paducah, Kentucky. If you’ve ever been fortunate enough to come to the Quilt Show in Paducah, I’m sure you’ve been to Quilter’s Alley. They have more packed in this tiny shop than you can imagine. It goes all the way up to the ceiling and there are samples and ideas galore hanging everywhere. They teach classes in the back and are the friendliest people around.
This little cabinet is my favorite place to dig around in in the whole store. They keep their Swiss embroidery and heirloom laces in here and I can usually find a treasure or two.
I did find a few things and managed to do $62.00 worth of damage… OUCH!
I wasn’t the only one who ended up with a bag…. my hubby also found a few treasures at Harbor Freight tools and was just as happy as I was.
How come his bag was bigger though?….
Here’s a simple sewing tip… if you already know this, you’ll think, “Oh, everybody knows that!” But if you don’t know it, you’ll wonder how something so simple can be so wonderful.
Ever have trouble threading your sewing machine needle? All that chrome seems to just blend in together and it’s hard to tell where the eye of the needle is. Well, if you’ll take a small piece of white paper and just hold it behind the needle, it makes the eye of the needle just pop out and threading your needle is a snap. Sorry my pics aren’t the greatest… I’m being photographer and prop person at the same time. I think you get the idea though.

Oh how many treasures I could have found… too bad “my” treasures are on the expensive side. It would have been fun to have come home with a bigger bag. Oh well, I’m happy!

Jeanne, you and I share more than just the spelling of our first name ! I love to shop all types of fabric stores and my husband is a Harbor Freight nut !!!! He collects their coupons and heads up there a couple times a week to garner the free items as well as cruising the aisles to admire all the “man goodies”. He also drags me along to use an extra coupon on the freebies. We give all those away as we already have PLENTY on the workbench. Sort of like my fabric stash!!!
I would love for you to give us {me} a lesson using the beautiful embroidered endrudeaux.
I have just bought some of different widths and I am not sure how to use it ie} finish off those double raw edges so they stay nice and flat.

That’s funny about your hubby liking Harbor Freight Tools too. My hubby loves to shop with the coupons too. I’ve even found a few things for my sewing supplies too…organization trays, compartment organizers, hemostats, etc. Never know what you might find in there. I was tempted the last time I was in there to get one of those mats you stand on to keep your legs from getting tired… but didn’t.
I guess I’ll have to do a little demo on the entredeux lace sometime. It’s not hard, Jeannie.

What a fun trip you must have had! I don’t think I have ever gone into a quilting shop, since I don’t quilt, but that certainly was an adorable place! I would take hours just looking around! Where are the Harbor Freight pictures?? LOl My hubby also goes there once in awhile, we have one very close to us. Has your hubby ever gone to Grizzly Tool store in Springfield, MO? Very large, and lots of woodworking tools there.

Oh Linda, you must give it a try sometime! Even for non-sewers there are things to have!!!
I guess the Harbor Freight pictures will have to come next time. I got dropped off then he went to HF so I never saw the inside of HF this trip. Then he picked me up when I called him. That usually works best as I can usually spend the longer time in the shop than him… although he has been known to take his sweet time.
Yes I know of the one by you, in Fairview Heights? Is that the one you mean? We were just there and once again I was dropped off at Jackman’s Fabric store… same story on the pick up! And yes…Ahhh… Grizzly Tool in Springfield… my sister lives in Spfd and he has certainly been there.

Oh, Jeanne, I don’t live by Fairview Heights, but the newest Harbor Freight store is located in Arnold, MO, right across the Meramec Riiver in Jefferson County. Takes about 5 minutes to get there from here. Michael goes there sometimes. I just wonder where a quilting shop is that I could drive to. I’d love to go sometime!

Glad you had a good trip and came home with some goodies! You have such a great range of craft shops in the US….we have ‘old fashioned’ haberdasheries which are brilliant but everything is behind the counter and you have to ask for it, so you can’t have a good old root through the stuff before you choose! Plus it’s mega expensive to buy the quilters cottons because they are generally imported from outside of Spain. Having said that, we do have some lovely lovely handmade lace here and it’s not expensive as well as gorgeous pique fabric, so I really shouldn’t complain!
