Hi everyone,
A few days ago, I asked if anyone had recently learned anything new. I shared a bit of how I had just learned how our zero turn mower worked and then mowed the grass.
Well, Sissy sent me an email about something new she had done. I didn’t share any pictures of my mowing, but she has pictures and they are pretty.
Hi, Jeanne,
Here is something new I did. I have baskets full of orange, yellow, brown and white scallop shells I saved from years of scalloping in Florida. This summer I decided to try to use them in the living room and one in the entry hallway.
Here is the hallway entry in the vase of my dried hydrangeas with the shells.
Next is the one on the dining table in the living room.
The candle holders are ones I made back when I made ceramics using Caladium leaves pressed in the clay.
The rest are also in the living room, one on the table by the couch, and two more on the coffee table in front in the couch.
This is a mermaid Peyton gave me and some porcelain βshellsβ my older son gave me. I hope yβall enjoy my silly fun with scallop shells.
Shells aren’t SILLY Sissy! You took something you found and created something you liked from them.
If Sissy thought her scallop arrangements were silly, wait till you read the poem I wrote…
Sissy thought maybe her shells were silly
Especially the scalloped kind
They came from the beaches of Florida
She marveled at all she could find
Placed in arrangements all over her house
They brightened her rooms so much
I think Sissy has a real special way
I call it the “Sissy Scallop Touch!”
See everyone tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Oh my Sissy, who knew that you are really an artist at heart? What beautiful creatio s you have made with completely natural materials! That is what art should be, and yu certainly bring out the beauty of the shells in the way they are displayed! So original! See now, that is truly art, not copying something! Sissy did you glue the shells together or just lay them among each other?
And Jeanne, that little poem is so sweet, and how original! You are another one of a kind artist! I am constantly amazed at the talents of the Sofa Sisters!
We are off today for my hubbyβs cataract surgery. Hope it goes well!
First, Linda, a prayer going up for your hubby! My Peyton will be having one too. I had both cataracts done, one at a time, and it was fine. God bless!!
Thank you for loving my shells and not thinking they are silly. I didn’t glue them because I may think of a way to decorate for Christmas.
Jeanne, you are so funny! I will take a photo of that poem and put it with one of my shell places!! Thank you so much, you are the best!!
Sissy, Your shells are beautiful. They are beautiful. You know there are many that do not live near the ocean and know these shells are treasures!!
Your arrangements are lovely! I really love them with the other treasured. Perfect displays and the colors are marvelous!
This reminds me of my son in law’s dear Auntie in North Carolina. She used to make/decorate things with shells. I do not recall any images specifically, but daughter Christina received once as a gift, a small straw purse with shells glued to the outside. It was cute and silly at the same time. I understand your feelings on silliness but really, what treasures! I think Christina still has the little purse, of course.
There are all kinds of creative things to make with shells. They are beautiful, each is unique just like a finger print!!
Well done Sissy!
Jeanne, you are a poet! This is a good poem! “high quality positivity!” π₯³π₯°π
I hope both you and George are feeling good and relaxing.
Hubbs and I went to the gym yesterday but they were cleaning the windows so it smelled like an ammonia factory. We did 15 minutes of elliptical and busted out and went for a walk. Then I did a lot of cleaning and sewing.
I took some Rhodes brand frozen dinner yeast rolls out of the freezer last night and left them out to rise over night. They rise up nicely. I will make a pizza for tonight!
Today I am taking my car (little Acura suv-16 years old now) out for some exercise. I am gonna go to the pharmacy in Target to get hubbs special eye drops for glaucoma, then zip over the the pet store and get a few bags of kitty litter with some coupons I have. Then!!! maybe zip over to Wegmans (have not been there in ages) and pick up some crab cakes? or some other prepared dinners perhaps.
Maybe some fresh salmon!
The temp here is supposed to be 71 today. Last evening when I looked at the forecast it said 85ΒΊ. I should have been a weather forecaster for my career. You can be totally WRONG and people will still love you in a cute dress!
I love all of you very much. Keep taking good care of yourselves and each other. πππ
Oh a surprise! I have texted estranged daughter Elizabeth over the past two weeks. Just a cute image “I miss you” She called me yesterday morning-ish. She sounded nice. I asked a lot of questions about the kids, her husband and his parents. We talked a long time. This phone call made my heart content.
She is very busy with her 4 kids but I am thankful that she called me.
I’m so happy you got to talk to your daughter Elizabeth, Rosemary! And the fact that she called you….well, that’s a step in the right direction, I think!!
Oh, the excitement! I absolutely love Sissy’s shell arrangements and fab decorating. That mermaid sculpt from Peyton, tops it all off so well. Each arrangement is amazing. Sissy, has an amazing artistic flair. Wow!
And then, we have that very special talent by our mentor Jeanne. The poem about Sissy’s shells and talent is perfect. The creativity this morning is overwhelming. Love it. Thanks so much Sissy and Jeanne, for sharing.
Here, no talent at all. But, we did come home after other person did a lot of grit sweeping in the garage at the other house and took a break from the heat. There wasn’t any sign around the other house that there had been a new roof installed. So clean. The garage mess, of which we had been warned, isn’t my problem. π Other person has a lot more cleaning to do out there. π But, it started to cool off so I convinced other person to tackle the second oleander out in front here. It was in the shade, but there was a controlled burn at the coast and the smoke was pretty bad blowing in our way. Why have one with a spare the air day and extremes heat, we don’t know. Anyway, the oleander came down, I cut up the pieces and the yard can was stuffed once again. Had time to chat with neighbors and play with little Winnie, the pup from next door too. So glad to get that done. It looks like another very hot one today, but the temperature is slowly going down and by Saturday, maybe into the 70’s. I’ll have to dig out my jacket. π
So happy for you two that the roof is in place and the yard was left in perfect condition. They are hard workers and appreciate the business and referrals!
I am glad to know the temps are coming down. By October, we are all sick of the hots.
So happy you got some socializing fit in at the end of the day
Sissy, your shell arrangements are really creative! It is very interesting how you displayed them! What fascinating shells too- some Iβve never seen before. And so lovely that you found places and ways to use them.
Jeanne, your poem was great- another great talent of yours.
Joy- I think you are very talented. All the gardening and arranging you do around your homes. And, not to mention your enjoyable sense of humor.
Another hot day but it might cool off and give us some much needed rain.
Love the poem, Jeanne. It definitely says it all. So clever.
Sissy, I love your scallop shell arrangements. You have some really pretty specimens, and you’ve displayed them so well.
After my chiro appointment yesterday I am really looking forward to my massage today. Straightening my body has been a process and each visit to the chiropractor seems to produce a different result. Can’t wait till everything is realigned. He seemed very pleased with my half mile walk the other day and said for me to try to do that at least two times a week. Weather cooperating, I have no problem with that. Right now the days are still in the high 80s, but the humidity is lower and with the storm in the Gulf we will be getting a northerly breeze for awhile. Great for walking.
Sissy….your shell arrangements are wonderful!! I have many of the same shells you used as I collected (or purchased) them when we visited Florida when I was a teenager. I thought I wanted to be a “Conchologist” or a Marine Biologist when I grew up…I was so fascinated with shells! But I lived in Indiana then and my life took a different path, so it is what it is. But I do still have those shells….some in a large wire basket and some in a bowl in the bathroom, along with shell art work on the walls! But nothing like your beautiful arrangements!
Thank you to those who responded to my venting yesterday about the HOA in our community. I did email the company to “quietly” point out the amount of non-stop rain we had prevented our lawn care person from mowing and edging. They responded today thanking me for my concerns and stated that if we have circumstances that delay our lawn care, we could contact them and they will make a note for the inspector and it would avoid a “violation” notice. I’m pretty sure the HOA committee members get the same weather news as everyone else! Evidently they have someone who checks properties every two weeks on the same day. Well, my daughter arranged for our lawn man to come mow this morning, and the yard looks great again and the sun is shining! However, as I mentioned to my daughter….I want to pull the weeds this Saturday from the front garden areas around the bushes (when she is here, in case I fall in the yard!). They might send us an email about the weeds, if they noticed the grass.
My youngest daughter and her hubby live in a beautiful upscale community 7-8 minutes from us, and they had been contacted by their HOA that the trees were overgrown at the lower branches and so my daughter and her hubby had tree trimmers come and trim, for $600. They have a home on the corner so have three trees total whereas most homes have just one or two trees. Their HOA also has rules about the fencing around all of the yards….they are to be kept stained or painted and in the same color as HOA recommended. Not everyone does this and there are some who used a dark brown stain rather than the redwood color-family….and some folks have neglected keeping up with the fence appearance and the fences needs re-coating. The HOA seems to do a “hit and miss” type of inspection.
We could look into becoming a committee member that would entail meetings, etc., but with folks working M-F jobs, and for myself,….I am retired but don’t have a car or drive anymore…it becomes a matter of time and choice. The HOA is open to suggestions by email and say they will take them into consideration at one of their meetings. (Makes me want to say “la-di-da” without being sarcastic!)
I REALLY need to spend more time in my art/sewing room! That is a happy place! I have a TV in there too, on top of a small credenza that holds greeting-card supplies, doll patterns, and such. I have several of my favorite Hallmark movies on a wish-list and can watch or even just listen to a repeated movie while I work on projects! We also have BritBox now and I started watching “The Other Bennet Sister”, and my daughter and I have been watching “Ludwig”, “Tommy & Tuppence”, and “Silent Witness”….which was started years ago and has 29 seasons!
What I am now missing though is “The Great British Sewing Bee” on the Roku channel. I was in the middle of re-watching the first ten seasons that the US carried, and then a few days ago went to find it and it is gone! I googled the issue and apparently sometimes it is dropped or just not available for a while? I used to catch a couple of episodes late at night, since you can turn it off at any time and come back to it another night…unlike watching a movie to see how it ends. Has anyone else experienced the loss of “The Great British Sewing Bee”? And here I was waiting for the latest season to appear in the US and they take away all of them!
Good morning everyone
First off, Marilyn to answer your question from yesterday, calling my quilt “my Alice quilt” is just short for my Alice’s Wonderland quilt. It is a book by Alice Caroline with all the patterns for the 100 blocks and instructions how to construct the blocks. Saturday
Sissy I love all your arrangements with the shells, how clever you are. Jeanne your little poem was very clever. What a fun post.
Joy, was it you who said about the flowers blooming in the desert? I looked it up and they are spectacular. Just goes to show how important water is to the planet.
Our TV is fixed so I should be able to watch the games this weekend. Rugby, Canterbury are playing a quarter final in the NPC on Sunday, the All Blacks are playing Australia in the first leg of the Bledisloe Cup (which we have held for decades) on Saturday and I think the Australian football (soccer) league starts this weekend as well and NZ has two teams playing. Not Christchurch though, Auckland and Wellington. I support the Wellington Phoenix. Cricket starts soon as well so a plethora of pleasure to come.
I tried to send the quilt show photos but my g mail isn’t working today for some reason so will have to try through outlook.
It was 24C yesterday but only 16C today
have a good day everyone
I love all your shell designs, Sissy! All so pretty! I like your mermaid as well. Fun poem Jeanne wrote for you.
