Mae received LOTS of extras today…

Hi everyone,
My hubby went to get plumbing and chicken feed in a town about 30 minutes away but I stayed home. I kind of had the sniffles again today, so I stayed in.

I did get a few things finished up for Mae that will make her dress set even better…

She needed a pair of thigh high’s so I found a very sheer, cream sparkle fabric in my stash that worked wonderfully! It was hard to show the sparkle in them, but maybe you can see it.

Then I thought she might like a pretty pearl bracelet with a pink flocked heart and 2 gold charms added. She DID like it…

Then I moved onto her shoes. I had one small piece of rose colored leather that I decided to make into a pair of mary jane’s. I just knew they were going to be perfect… the rose leather was a great match to the print of her dress.

I got them stitched up, wet them and used just a little bit of watered down stiffner on the inside and fit them into my shoe molds… then sat them near a heater so they would dry faster. I put a rubber band around them so they’d hold the strap in the right place…

Then I decided I was going to go ahead and make Mae a cream colored bonnet. I got it going and it turned out really pretty… it isn’t decorated, but will be soon. I haven’t checked my parchment flowers yet, but hope I have what I need.

Then I checked on my shoes and they were dry, but “something” happened to them. When I took the rubber band off there were marks for some reason. It looked like water marks too… and the back of the heel was sort of scrunched up. I wanted to cry… the leather was so soft and pretty and now it was all stiff and spotty-like.

I have glued the sole on and will see what I might be able to do tomorrow.

“Don’t cry mommy… it will be okay!”

My sweet Mae might have the prettiest dress in the room, but her shoes might not be. I hope an idea to fix them comes to me as I’m sleeping tonight.

I’ll see you Monday,
Blessings, Jeanne

Wow, you got quite a lot done on Mae’s outfit! I especially like her little bracelet. What little girl doesn’t like a nice piece of jewelry?!

I’m not sure what to suggest for her shoes, though. I’d say try wetting them again, but you’ve already glued the soles in place. Frankly, *I* didn’t see anything much wrong with them. a bit splotchy, maybe, but not all that bad, I don’t think.

Joy, some suggestions for Ady’s twin: perhaps Adam, or Arne (AR-nee)? Or Adrian?

I have my camera back upstairs now, so will try to get that picture of my purse prototype onto my computer and sent to Jeanne, for those of you who asked. I still have to cut one out from my challenge fabric yet. However, I did start sewing my boiled-wool blend jacket, which was our challenge in 2020, but then the pandemic started….Tonya and I are both determined we Are going to get that one done this year, too!

How sweet .Mae looks now with all those cute “extra’s”, Jeanne! The thigh highs, are the perfect color, not too white, and that sweet little bracelet! I can see her snowing it off to anyone who would look!

The bonnet is perfect for Easter, and little flowers with a bow on it would work just fine!
Her shoes are just what I envisioned, and really, from my monitor, I can’t see much wrong with them, but again, I can not see them in person. Maybe putting a flower or bow on them would help disguise the discolored part?

Joy, did you ever think of your boy doll being named Andy? Ady and Andy sound cute together!

  3. Okay, I went back and read Joys post. You should name your boy Aden.
Anyway…. naked!!! I thought I was the only person with a naked doll! (I gave the clothes to this “glitter girl” that my daughter gave me as a model to make clothes. so I gave the clothes to Lauren my grand girl.
Good morning everyone, Friday!!! And it is going to be very cold today… and tomorrrow we are expecting bitter cold and a beastly wind – but just Saturday! I am staying inside all day.
Today I will make some brownies and give them to some neighbors just to get rid of some eggs! but mostly to make friends happy.
I sewed all day yesterday, took a break to snuggle my kitty and also wash sheets… but really…. sewed all day and listened to XM radio Classical music. It was heavenly.
Jeanne, this outfit looks terrific. Give a bit more time for the shoes to dry and see what the irregularities look like, I bet they look good today. You could also try to rewet as Charlotte suggested.
All of it is hand crafted by a very skilled artisan, Missie Jeanne Marie!
I love the little bracelet and the hat is gonna be super cute. I am excited about this outfit! I just love the fabric of this dress.
Jeanne, the sniffles. Yes, it lingers. This is the first winter I have had …. ever since the first “cold thing” after Christmas, continuing sniffles and very dry nose. I think I need to drink more. …and I have been consuming too many cookies. I will cut up some apples today.
Jeanne, I love the pink shoes. Just what I was “dreaming” of!! See what a bit of simple treatment will do.
And… she needs a candy bar.
I hope everyone has a super nice day today, happy Friday. Stay hydrated.
    Enjoy your week-end too.

Can’t wait to see the flowers added to Mae’s new hat. And the bracelet is adorable. As to the shoes, if they were mine, I’d probably try some saddle soap on the leather all over and even out the bleed through from the wet leather. The stuff works wonders. Maybe if the shoes are wet again, the toes can be rounded up a bit more from the stitching as well? I would also not use anything rubber, like rubber bands, on the leather. It can interact and cause stains. If you have some silicone bands, they might be okay. Or cover the rubber bands with plastic wrap. And perhaps, when the shoes are fully dry, I suppose that you could try some shoe polish which would definitely cover up any imperfections. I know that they used to make white polish. It was used on my old white oxfords from grammar school. 🙂 I suppose that some coloring could be added to it and then it would work. Hope they an be saved.
Thanks everyone for the great A name suggestions. I was actually able to add a few of my own from a great grandfather and father in law. So, still deciding at this point. I even looked at some Mae overall patterns yesterday that might work to make some twin outfits. We’ll see. Poor boy still needs undies though. Right now, I’m still playing with the horse blanket. 🙂 I need to make a bridle too and finish the ribbon decorations for the pony’s legs.
Latest report is there will be no rain here for the Super Bowl. They were afraid that some sprinkles might move in. Should be fun to watch the entertainment, and I’ll definitely catch the Puppy Bowl too. 🙂
Have a wonderful weekend everyone and, Jeanne, take care of those sniffles. We don’t want a relapse.

    1. Aiden, spelled differently than the Aden above.

Joy, I replied to your question yesterday about the cast.

    2. Hi Joy,
Thanks for all your leather tips… I don’t have any saddle soap but maybe George does…
I thought of another boy “A” name… there is a little boy at church named Asher… it means happy or blessed! :o)

  5. Such a sweet dress, the print is the perfect size and the color goes so nicely with and compliments her cheeks. Like others have said I can’t see the shoe problem either but when leather shoes get water marks white vinegar was my grandmas solution. Has anyone else ever used it? I hope something saves these really pretty pink MJ’s.
Have a good weekend all, stay warm.

I’ve heard that vinegar and water can really remove stains on leather, but haven’t tried it. I’m sure your grandmother was correct. 🙂

  6. Jeanne, Mae’s outfit is adorable! From her hat to her shoes and in between!! Her little bracelet is perfect. The hat will be pretty with some flowers ( and band maybe. )
Hope you can figure out what you want to do with her pink shoes although I too wouldn’t worry about them. But you are a perfectionist and I know you’ll find a solution.
Looking forward to the Super Bowl. Even though I’m a Chiefs fan ( sure was a not so good year for them.😕) I’m going to cheer on the Seahawks.

Jeanne, take of yourself and rest if you’re starting to cough again.
    Everyone have a great weekend!!

    1. Hi Paula,
We are Chiefs fan too, and I decided during the playoffs, I was going for the Seahawks too! Let’s hope they win!!
I did finish the shoes as best I could… Mae thinks they are fine!!
Thank you for your prayers… I had a little relapse Thursday afternoon but I am slightly better today. I HAVE to be because tomorrow is surgery day for my hubby. I’m his driver home..
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Hi everyone,
Just thought I’d let you know… the shoes looked just the same this morning… awful, in my opinion…so, I took my finger and dipped it in water and tried smoothing out the shoes on the inside, trying to maybe dilute the stiffner I had used. After the inside was all smoothed out a little better, I did the same thing on the outside, wetting my fingers and smoothing out the wrinkles. I put my shoe molds back in and smoothed the leather as best I could. Now they are drying in the sun…
    I’ll keep you posted…

Jeanne, wishing for a good weekend without sniffing and I still praying for George’s surgery.

Little Mae will be the bell of anywhere she is in that outfit. The shoes look fine to me, but I am sure you can see them better than I. If you decide they are not worthy to sell, just send the to me and I will paint them to go with my Mae’s sweater, LOL!

I know the hat will be adorable too.

We went to the Y and ran errands, got home and was busy. We woke up to ice on every thing and things in the yard keep getting brown. Coldest winter ever since with moved here.

Hoping for good weekends for all and stay warm.

Interesting — I think Jeanne and Rosemary and I all have the same cold. It seems to leave and then sneaks back.

I am a big fan of Jeanne Marie hats and hat decorations, so I’m looking forward to what you do for this one. The glitter in the tights fabric does show and makes a nice detail. Keep us up on the shoes and make a note of the solution to keep with the shoe patterns. 3 years from now you may have a similar problem and you’ll want to remember the solution. The problem doesn’t show in the pictures, but when a Jeanne Marie original arrives, it always looks perfect.

Jeanne, I sent you an email showing photos of some of the things I made with the fabrics I showed you.

You definitely have made great progress on Mae’s outfit. I think the little shoes don’t look bad so I don’t think you should give up on them. The bracelet is so sweet and girlie. And I can see the sparkles in her thigh highs. All-in-all and really cute outfit.
