How about a few days showing Dolls in Fall outfits!

Hi everyone,
I am in a bit of a quandary over what to do about Rebecca’s Civil War outfit. I SO wanted to take some outside pictures with the Fall leaves on the trees… WELL, first we had rain and things were wet… then it was gloomy and things didn’t look pretty outside, then it got super cold Sunday and Monday, and the wind has just been insane… blowing like crazy… I think Rebecca’s bonnet would have blown off her head. But the worst part is… because I had to wait, the wind has blown the leaves off the trees… and now it looks so stark outside, and my window of opportunity has vanished. So my plan is to wait until maybe Thursday when it’s supposed to be a little warmer and more calm and get a few pictures outside. Maybe I can rake up some leaves and make it look like Fall is still around. Look at the difference 3 days made…

Okay, that’s enough on the leaves… let’s see some past Fall outfits! This will just be in slideshow showing some of the dresses I made in September, October and November… going back to 2015… I’ll show some more tomorrow…

Oh, why, oh why don’t I sew for Ellowyne any more???

Well, that should give you enough to look at for a while… I hope you enjoyed seeing these pretty dresses made about ten years ago. It’s fun for me to look back at what I’ve made and do a little “critiquing” of my work.

Well, I’ll see you tomorrow with some more from September, October and November of some other years.

Blessings, Jeanne

First of all, I want to let you all know I went and replied to everyone’s comments in yesterday’s blog! Thank you for liking my pictures, and to Jeanne for sharing them! I would have done it earlier today, but I was gone pretty much all afternoon, with physical therapy (my back–scheduled some time ago) and then errands, and ran out of time.

Our view around here has changed, too, Jeanne, largely from all the rain we had last week–lots of soggy leaves on the ground! The last couple of days have been nice, and Sunday it actually got up to 63, but of course the leaves were already on the ground and soggy by then.

Well, you have to know my two favorites among this fashion show are the two dresses on Isabelle. I think the purple is my favorite, but I love them both. I also like Kirsten’s outfit with the green vest. I think I remember your making all of those, and most of the others, too!

I saw your comment about the heavy equipment. Sounds like you have all the bases covered in your family. Fireproofing those buildings must be quite a job. I never thought of what it might take to do that. One of the things we take for granted I guess.

Yes, Jeanne, that’s what is going on here too, with the weather and leaves. And it happens so fast when you aren’t looking! Our neighbors have a young sugar maple in their backyard, and one day it is a beautiful red, and the next day it is bare! With all the wind that cold wave sent to us, no wonder!

I love looking g back at your previous dresses, and it is fun to remember the dolls that you used to have, but no more. Josefina comes to mind and the Helen Kish dolls too. One doll that you do get a lot of use of is Rebecca! She seems to be your “go to “ doll every year! Kirsten is also always dressed to the nines in your collection and it is so fun to see what she is wearing. She always has such beautiful and interesting outfits!

What is going on with Laura? I know she has a new computer, but wonder why the name change? I hope she gets it figured out!

    1. Hi Linda, Thank you for missing me! I was locked out of posting here as this appeared where I should put my email and name. zealous22e4d7d3c6 – Logged in via WordPress.com Weird, right??? I could get into Facebook, both doll boards, email, YouTube, any website, just not here. It obviously fixed itself as I’m back in today.

      1. Hi Laura,
I updated your info on Mailchimp yesterday so maybe the glitch was updated and rooted out. I hope so!!

Sorry about the great background leaf failure. I love the before/after pic of the ginko, I thinko. Or whatever tree with the yellow leaves. Fall outfits are great right now, but better hurry and get it listed maybe using an indoor background because everyone appears to be into Christmas already. Skipping Thanksgiving and on to the cold weather items and sweet holiday dresses. I loved seeing the special dress on your Kaye Wiggs girl. I’ve been looking at sailor outfits a lot lately. They work so well for Christmas too. Maybe another of those would be fun for a Ruby Red but in navy?
Well, yesterday, I checked on my latest incoming package with Gofu and it said that it was still in SF. So, we went to the other house and spent time doing pruning and raking. Pin oak and liquid amber leaves everywhere. Finished up and headed home. I was not rushing to head up the steps while we unloaded. However, I should have because as we climbed up, there sitting on the mat was an obvious doll box. Other person saw it first. Horrors. Is that another doll??? Well, yeah. And bla bla bla. But, after I brought the box inside, that was it. 🙂 So, now I need to find some time to open Tyler/Russel’s box. He’s wearing a great sailor outfit, so that is why I’ve been looking for something for one of his female counterparts. When I checked Gofu delivery again, the update finally said out for delivery. But, they had not sent any updates or anything that the package would be delivered on Veterans’ Day. In fact, I did not receive any notification of any kind and had to rely on those from Fuuffy. Don’t you love those company names? Anyway, the box looks to be in great shape, so now I need some time to get the little guy out of his box and dressed in his sailor suit. Maybe I can send other person to the store? 🙂
I really enjoyed seeing the fall dress parade today. Lots of fun ideas there. Thanks Jeanne.
Oh, and like Linda, where is Laura??

Dear Joy, another caper, well almost undetected. Yes, I think a trip to the grocery or hardware store is in order (smile).

    2. Hi Joy, Thank you for missing me! I was locked out of posting here as this appeared where I should put my email and name. zealous22e4d7d3c6 – Logged in via WordPress.com Weird, right??? Congrats on Tyler/ Russell. He looks very cute. Loved the sailor suit.
Yes, people here also seem to be already on to Christmas as well. FB doll clothing listings are Christmas and our garden/ gift store is having Christmas open house this weekend. The little downtown antique and other shops have Christmas in the windows.

      1. Joy in northern CA

Glad whatever happened is fixed. So frustrating, I’m sure. Tks on T/R. Still in the box as we went for a walk before the rain and ran into our friend so time flew. Had a few sprinkles, but got home in time for other person to get the leaves out of the gutters once again. Lots more up there though. High winds expected, so we’ll see a huge mess I’m sure in the next few days. 🙂

    3. Hi Joy,
I did take what you said about getting Rebecca’s dress listed quickly as time was running out. I took some inside pictures and they’ll have to do. I am hoping to find time to get the dress set listed tomorrow… between cleaning house and doing anything my hubby needs done.
Thanks for the kick in the pants to get me moving on doing it.
      Blessings, Jeanne

Doesn’t it make you feel good to look back and see the beautiful work you’ve done? It must also inspire you to see a color combination you haven’t used for a while or a doll you haven’t dressed recently.

Is there any way you could enlarge photos from your yard and make them big enough to be backgrounds for you photos of dolls?

    1. Hi Marilyn,
Yes, it does make me feel good to look back at my past work. You are right, too, it does inspire me and I do see those dolls I haven’t made anything for lately… like Nyssa and Ellowyne… someone asked if I still had Ellowyne… yes, I do! I don’t think I’ve ever made anything I didn’t like on her.
I’ve never checked into making background pictures from my own yard, but that’s a thought… someone asked too, about Addy’s Scenes and Settings big book… I used to have it, but only have Samantha’s now. I have been thinking about some new backgrounds. I see several I really like… maybe….
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, I love the parade of dolls. There are so many pretty ensembles.

Here’s an idea for an indoor photo shoot. Don’t you have some of the American Girl Sets and Scenes? I kind of remember that years ago you did. I thought you had the one for Addy. That could definitely work for the Civil War period as that is the era in which she lived.

Or as Marilyn suggested, you could use photo-shop to put the doll into a scene. I don’t know how to do this but I bet one of the Sofa Sisters does.

    1. Oh, Dorothy, it was you who suggested the AG scenes… I forgot and just answered Marilyn about them, but now I see it was you! I sold my Addy book, and only have Samantha’s now. boo hoo…
      Blessings, Jeanne

Jeanne, I always love your fashion slideshows. I take it you don’t still have your Ellowynne. Every outfit you made for her is gorgeous. I have one now and tons of patterns for her but haven’t made up any of them yet. I always seem to be working on clothes for the “younger” girls. I always love the clothes you make for your Kaye Wiggs dolls. They always look so stylish and wear clothes so well.

I managed to walk 1/2 mile the other day. It was using my Rollator but whatever works. It was beautiful out and the air cool but not cold. I will go again this afternoon but it will be much warmer but still not real hot and if I go late in the afternoon the sun is already going down so it will be getting cooler. I have to go to the Little League ballpark and walk the dirt path which goes around a lake, but there is no really pretty to place to walk around here so I’ll take what I can get. Another place I could walk has a concrete path but my shins don’t like that much even though it would be easier for the Rollator.

What a difference a day makes, at least for your tree with the golden leaves. You didn’t really have time to enjoy them. Well our trees still have lots of leaves because it’s not late enough in the season for them to drop and we haven’t had any real wind lately. Sadly they don’t turn pretty before they drop and the tree across the street is a Live Oak so not much action going on there. I just talked to my daughter this morning. She lives in Maine and has snow on the ground. As does my sister in West Virginia. Evidently my sister, who spends fall and winter in Florida, is having some unusual cold weather. Her gif pictures are hilarious.

Hubby just returned from seeing the audiologist. He will be getting some form of hearing aids, but he did find out that while cleaning his ears the other day they managed to puncture his eardrum making matters worse. The doctor swore that didn’t happen but his inner ear may have been so swollen he didn’t notice. So it’s on to an ENT specialist.

    1. Oh my gosh, so sorry about your hubby’s eardrum! I do hope
there is a good treatment for him.
I am in Northern Virginia and we did have a few snow flakes for about 5 minutes here in Loudoun County 35 miles west of the “swamp” AKA the US Capital

    2. Joy in northern CA

Oh, sorry about your husband’s ear puncture. Sure hope that he has some antibiotics or something to help it heal.
And that’s great on getting in a walk. Always so nice to be out and enjoy the scenery. We’ve gotten a few drops of rain so far this morning, but the big storm is headed in probably overnight and tomorrow. Then, I guess that you will get it. 🙂

    3. Hi Barbara, I DO still have this Ellowyne. I had several others but this one I just couldn’t let go of. She is the first Ellowyne to have real glass eyes and I think she is very pretty! Seeing her in these archived pictures makes me want to make something for her…it’s been years since I made something that fit her. maybe it’s time…
      Thanks for asking…
So sorry about your hubby’s hearing… that’s a bit scary and I hope they get things figured out for him.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. I’ve been locked out of posting for the past few days. Not sure what was wrong, but it appears I am back in. Yes, our leaves were on the trees and now on the ground as well.

I enjoyed seeing Dorothy’s Charlotte Noelle with the glint in her eye. Also You Charlotte with your grandson, wife, and great- grandson. The construction crew costumes were great.

Picking favorite today is a piece of cake – Addy’s, both of Kirsten’s, and both of Rebecca’s. The last one on Rebecca is absolutely gorgeous!!

  8. Eye candy!! There are too many outfits I love- especially all of the American Girl outfits. I love the green dress on the fourth doll down, everything about it, but I don’t recognize what type of doll she is. and I love Elowyne’s dress even though I never had that doll.
All of your creations Jeanne, are just beautiful and it’s always neat to see the ones you did long ago.

I agree with you, Dorothy on naming dolls and coming up with stories that include the era they live in and their friends and their teachers, etc.
I have always done that my whole life — in my younger years when I actually played with them as a child, and still I like to have names and the stories between them and I love staging if I’d ever get to it. I always love seeing anyone staging with their dolls.
Of course, our cars had and have names. Our dogs have conversations that we make up about them all the time. Like Holly, my nieces red toy poodle who is 13 and now has diabetes. I may have mentioned that she calls it “Padunkaditis “ and Holly gets a lot of attention because of that, So that makes our black toy Poodle, Gidget, who is three, jealous of all the attention so Gidget wants to have padunkaditis too. 😂 We tried to tell her that that’s not what she really wants and she does get a lot of attention on her own. She’s just jealous.
All our doggies had nicknames too -throughout their lives- One of our Doberladies name was Schatton, which is German for shadow and as an example, when I made spaghetti or we had pizza with a good hot sauce, Her name became “ Schattoni pepperoni.”

On the news of my ablation yesterday, It went well And hopefully it will help me not have to deal with a fib for a while. I am hoarse and a little sore, but I have a few papers given to me by the cardiologist and the nurses to show what I can and cannot do.
I have the best doctors and nurses in the world and that makes a big big difference. All of my caretakers, staff, take such good care of me.
Thank you for wishing me well yesterday.

    1. Joy in northern CA

Well, very happy to hear all went well yesterday. Hope you can get some rest so you can heal quickly. Take care.

    2. Paula, such great news regarding your procedure. I hope you have a speedy recovery.
I love that you make your animals talk and also have cute silly names. I am the same in all respects.
When i was raising my daughters we always had our dolls talk and have discussions, also stuffed animals, and teddy bears

    3. Hi Paula,
So glad to hear the ablation went well… and so glad you had such good care where you were at. Take it very easy and follow those doctor’s orders!
That doll in the green pleated dress is Nyssa, by Kaye Wiggs in Australia. This doll was one of my doll customers in CA. She had just received her and when she discovered I made clothes for dolls, she SENT me her doll so I could use her until I found a Nyssa of my very own. I think I had her Nyssa for about 2 months before I found one and sent hers back. Her Nyssa was the tan version and I found a fair skinned one. I have a few pictures of hers when I was making patterns and a few with her doll and mine together. I sent her doll back as soon as I took a few pictures with them. She ultimately wanted some clothes for her doll, so that’s why she sent me her doll. It was very kind of her to do that… especially the fact that she paid $1800 for her Nyssa. I was totally blessed and was super careful with her doll.
      Thanks Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Jeanne, Your parade of dolls is always so beautiful, I always love seeing them!

Great to see you back, Laura!

Barbara, I can look around soon and see if I still have a few things for Riley. I could text photos of them to you. Send me an email and I will send you my phone number so we can text. My email Is marshrat@darientel.net
I hope your Hubs ears are ok.

Paula, I am so glad you ablation was a success, still sending prayers for continued better health.

    1. Thank you Sissy. It’s good to get that over with – just have a few things ahead and hope I’m done for awhile.

  10. Late Wednesday greetings dear ones.
I got tangled up in a few chores this morning, so I had no time to comment.
I really enjoyed looking at all of these adorable dresses while eating breakfast and then again at lunch time.
Jeanne, this is a nice look down Autumnal memories for the girls. They are beautiful and thank you for sharing these especially since there were quite a few years I left the fold here to care for my dear mom and dad until 2023.
Gosh, I won’t pick a favorite because that is impossible.
The incredible amount of detail, the decorative and also your workmanship
is just perfect absolute perfection, Jeanne
I have not read the comments here yet, so I will do that too, to see if I have missed any important news.
My fingers are a bit freezing because I created a raised garden and planted some small bushes in my front yard, and then planted about 18 tulip bulbs. I have 10 more (super cheap ones from Lidl) I have decided to put in the garden right at the front porch. It is super windy here still (the past three days has been very windy from the north west – landing right here in my partly sunny front yard and blowing my mop hair around. So I might plant those last 10 tomorrow after we come home from taking Princess kitty to the cardiologist!
Now here is a dance party we can all join in on, right? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=REPPgPcw4hk

  11. Anne Coldron in Christchurch NZ

I love seeing your fashion parades Jeanne. I didn’t join till 2019 so I quite often haven’t seen them before. I loved Ellowynne, I am not sure I have seen her before but she really is lovely and the outfits you made for her are beautiful.
We are finally getting warmer weather but today it is raining. I think the storm was almost world wide, We had it the week before you and lots of places south of here had snow. We mainly had wind which finished off most of the blossom on the trees rather than your trees losing their leaves. I don’t have the problem of leaves in my garden since the people who we bought the house from planted lots of natives and all NZ trees are evergreen. We do have lots of deciduous trees in the city but they are all exotic, mostly planted by settlers who wanted to create a piece of England in their new homeland.
This week is Show Week in Christchurch. Every Province has it’s own special week, the Show is very agricultural, there used to be lots of competitions in all sorts of categories but I think that has pretty well vanished now. Tuesday was Cup Day so everyone dresses up and there is a fashion show for ladies but also one for the men as well! Wednesday (yesterday) was School Day where the primary school kids come to see all the different animals etc then Opening Day is today and tomorrow is Show Day (a public holiday) with the Grand Parade of all the prize winning animals. The have a lot of other things going on as well like the wood chopping exhibition. I haven’t been for years it has got too expensive and too crowded for me. I am not big on crowds these days. I think the rain is a bit upsetting for them but at least it is not as cold or windy as it was last week.
I had planned to do some work on my pot plants today but the rain has put a stop to that. My deck may be covered but the rain blows underneath so not very pleasant.
    I had better go now
    Have a great day

    1. Joy in northern CA

Rain is coming in here, so I guess the heaviest will be tomorrow. Just a few drops so far, and we got in a walk so that is good.
That Show Week sounds like fun. Maybe a little like the fair that we have here in the summer. Although, now days there isn’t as much to see, and we no longer have horse racing either. The last is probably good as I found it distressing.

      1. I’m with you Joy in finding horse racing distressing! On the other hand I enjoy watching dressage at our fair.

      2. I agree with you – horse racing and greyhound racing- not good. The greyhound racing in our country is pretty much over compared to years ago. I belonged to a group in Indiana and we rescued greyhounds from several racetracks. I font think horse racing will ever quit – so sad.
I have a collection of Secretariat keepsakes but I fell in love with him but did not agree to racing- even dine riding stables are pathetic. Some people just don’t need to have animals!

    2. Anne, thank you for sharing your update on Christchurch NZ.
Yes, you are rolling into Summer in a few months!
Sadly, the wind can wipe out a seasonal “party” in just a few days, flowers and leaves gone. I am always sad when the flowers are blown off but oh well.
Thanks for explaining such a great time as Show week and all of the proceedings that transpire over the days. That is special, it is interesting how in just one life time some of the traditions fade away. It is good that you remember it for what it was. Change is …. funny.
