Here’s a breakfast question for you…

Hi everyone,

Todays question:
If you could only eat one food for breakfast for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I know for George it would be EGGS!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

I like eggs, too, Jeanne, and often have them hard cooked and cold for lunches, or an omelet for supper. But breakfast? I’m a night owl, so the only time I eat breakfast is if I have to be somewhere EARLY, like church, and then it’s just a bowl of cereal. Ron always used to suggest going out for breakfast, but I just can face that much food so early in the day!

However, if I could have just one food for breakfast (when I eat it) for the rest of my life it would be Post’s Blueberry Morning, a Great Grains! cereal which, unfortunately, they stopped making a few years ago. It was The Best cereal I’ve ever had, and it had dried blueberries in it! None of the others in the Great Grains! line tastes nearly as good. I used to love Special K, but they went and made it a “whole grain” cereal (used to be just rice and corn), and that made it taste bitter to me. I suspect it’s something in my taster that is reacting to something they added to the cereal. So, no more Special K for me. Now I have Honey Bunches of Oats with dried strawberries in it–not as good as Blueberry Morning, but it’s palatable.

The other favorite for breakfast for me is Swedish pancakes (I like them with cinnamon and sugar, then rolled up), but I would have to make them myself, and I’m not that awake in the morning!!

I replied to some comments about wisdom teeth in yesterday’s blog.

For those of you who are vacillating on the cataract surgeries: Get Them DONE!! You will be so glad you did! It truly is the easiest surgery you will ever experience. Just be careful to follow the doctor’s instructions about drops and the limits to lifting and bending the first week. I had mine done several years ago, and I was truly surprised how easy it was. Little to no discomfort, no dressings to change, etc.

As far as bucket lists: someone mentioned train travel, and I do enjoy that. I’ve taken two cross-country train trips, one when our son was about 5, he and my girlfriend Joyce and I got two roomettes, and we went back to the midwest, then rented a car and drove up to the UP, and had a lovely time, and the other in about 1996 or so, when I did their “all aboard Amtrak” ticket (three scheduled stops). I went to lower Michigan first for time with my best friend and a sewing convention, then down to Atlanta to visit another friend (and we went to Babyland, Home of the Cabbage Patch Kids!), and the third stop in Minneapolis, where I spent part of a day with my grandma. It was the last time I saw her before she died, and was glad I was able to do that.

    1. pancakes. Yummy. Cinnamon sugar, yes.
I like Honey Bunches of Oats but not the one with almonds. I can add my own almonds.
Train travel sounds kind of fun.
I have never done long journey sleeping car train travel. I have seen a lot of mystery movies involving such a setting 😊

Interesting that you only had two wisdom teeth too! Maybe I got that from my Swedish DNA since we both share that. I’m glad that I only had two. 🙂

Honey Bunches of Oats with Strawberries! Yes!! I don’t eat cereal often but that and Honey Nut Cheerios are two I love when I do. David keeps them on hand because he does eat breakfast but I tend to have them for lunch when he is out of town. I’ve never been a breakfast eater and when we’ve been on trips we tend to either eat a light breakfast at the motel or eat mid-morning if we are on the road.

I think train travel is on my bucket list too. When I lived up north I took the train often to Philly and NYC. I had a friend who lived in northern NJ and her dad worked in NYC so he would meet me at Grand Central Station and take me to their house. I love traveling by train but the opportunities in this part of the country are not easily doable. My sister and her hubby live in southern DE in the summer and FL in the winter. They take the auto train back and forth so they can have their own car with them. But I checked with Amtrak once and they said they had no plans for expanding that idea.

  2. Good morning Jeanne and George and Sofa Sisters near and far.
I hope all is well in Every One of your lives 🥰.
Breakfast. I love breakfast lunch and dinner. I am a grazer through out the day, so is hubbs.
So, my morning breakfast is coffee, and two pieces of toast, OR a bowl of wheat chex dry. Sometimes I will eat a hard boiled egg. I do love eggs. later in the morning I might have a cup of walmart plain greek yogurt or an apple or a kiwi.

Yesterday was kind of busy. I mentioned on Monday I received an email that I had joined a Lemoyne Star block sewing group.I forgot. So every day I have been rushing to get each block done to share at the end of the day. Lucky me, I do not have any other commitments this week so each day worked out great. I need to take better photos of each result.
The first day we did Y seams, second day foundation paper piecing, yesterday was um, oh regular piecing with a circle around the star, today is applique, and tomorrow… 🧐can’t remember. I am using patriotic fabrics so I can use them in my American Sweetie quilt.

House selling is different now. (probably changes made because of stupid covid) Hubbs and I went to the settlement company yesterday morning and signed all of the papers. This is the first time we received the stack of documents the day before and could carefully read all of the pages and not waste time at Champion Title. It was done and done in about 1 hour. Nice. The buyers go to settlement tomorrow. We have not met the buyers, that is okay. Did I tell you the buyers already bought a house just up the street and discovered some development on the property behind their small yard might happen? So they were mortified and that is what spurred their urgency to buy our house and a very high offer! 11K over selling price. So, now they have two houses. They will sell the other house. I will be interested to view the house tour on zillow when that happens. I know it will be soon.
Anyway, our old house is nicer 😂

I am going to craft group today. I hope everyone has a productive day full of success and
excellent progress. Or if you are feeling lazy, that is okay too 🥰
I will come and look at comments again when I come home at 1:30
    Love, Rosemary

We love breakfast and it is hard not to have a real one when we leave to go to the Y. So every home breakfast is very good. Today I made Peyton’s fave Eggs Benedict, tomorrow is the Y and I have a banana before I leave. On Saturday he will make my fave, fried eggs with cheese grits. Every breakfast we have toast with some of my home made jam, so you can see it would be hard to pick just ONE thing for our breakfast. If I had to pick one it would be either fried eggs or toast and jam.

It is interesting to me that some of you still eat cereal. I had that for breakfast almost every morning when I was a kid. I guess that is why I don’t eat it now.

I know Jeanne and George will be so happy when they can come home. I wonder if any thing has said about it yet? Prayers keep going up.

And, it’s Thursday. Another week almost in the basket. Hoping that we hear a word from Jeanne/George very soon. But, it is wonderful to have the blog still going in Jeanne’s absence.
Being very set in my ways, breakfast for me is always some plain yogurt in a small bowl and some oatmeal in a bowl beside it. I always eat the yogurt first while reading the funnies and then the oatmeal. Gets me through to lunch. Other person has cereal with some banana sliced on top. 🙂
Yesterday, it was hot once again, but I found that went I went out late to water a second time, there was a breeze and not bad in the shade. But, I just didn’t feel like doing any yardwork, so I came back inside and vegetated. Earlier, we did get in a walk and a trip to Target to stock up on cat food.
The highlight of the day was around 7:00. We had all of the windows open to let in the breezes and other person had journeyed down to the garbage can when I heard little Winnie, from next door making her excited little cries. Apparently, she had decided to take herself for a walk and saw other person and hoped that he would give her a tiny milk bone half. Knowing that something wasn’t right, I threw on my shoes and ran out in front with a milk bone, of course. Winnie was dancing around and had no leash trailing. That was unusual. So, I picked her up and carried her back to the dividing retaining wall and put her down by the path. Other person was ahead of me and had scaled the wall, so I followed behind. He had already reached the front door of Becky’s house when I caught up. She has two doorbells, so I rang both a couple of times. Winnie was right with us and very pleased with herself that she had gone on a walk alone. Becky look horrified when she opened the door and saw Winnie prancing around. Apparently, smart little Winnie knows how to push open the big backyard gate and let herself out on the side of the house. So, she was in big trouble. But safe. I think we’ll take a look at the gate today and see if it can be repaired.

    1. Boy, Lucky Winnie was discovered, yikes that is just too scary to think about.
I am glad you could possibly make a fix to that fence.
After craft club, I am feeling kind of vegetative but running on fumes.
Making Stouffers swedish meatballs for dinner!

      1. Joy in northern CA

Well, that sounds good. In fact, we haven’t had meatballs in some time. Should pop open the bag of them from Costco that we have in the freezer. Add some sauce/parmesan and dinner is ready. Will also make great sandwiches tomorrow. 🙂

Definitely a banana and a cup of coffee everyday! I also usually have Aldi’s Crispy Rice Cereal and their Marbled-Cinnamon Bread, toasted. Also really love the Maple Frosted yeast Donut that Walmart sells in a 2-pack box! That is a treat…or a piece of raspberry coffeecake heated up in the microwave with a little spreadable butter! Love oatmeal too, but it does take longer to make than having a bowl of cold cereal and this is Texas….so haven’t made a lot of oatmeal in the summertime!

Pancakes and scrambled eggs are a favorite here and we often have that for a dinner, sometimes once a week. Daughter likes to bake her bacon in the oven to go with pancakes…. last week she made maple, pepper encrusted bacon and left it in the oven for a bit too long. It was okay to eat…just extra crispy….but oh my goodness….the entire house smelled like a bacon-manufacturing plant or a bacon restaurant for a day and a half!

I am not sure that I would like the exact same thing for breakfast everyday, since I have something different just about every day. I always have a cup of coffee and a piece of grain and seeds bread, while reading the morning paper. But that isn’t breakfast for me, because that is around 3:30 in the morning! I have whatever I am feeling like having and if I want to make something that is an easy clean up or something that requires several ingredients and more clean up afterwards! Some days I have cereal, usually whole grain bran flakes, sometimes oatmeal, sometimes an omelet or scrambled eggs. Then again, sometimes frozen waffles that I put in the toaster. Sometimes yogurt and fruit. I really don’t know which of these I would prefer all the time. One thing is certain. Though, I ALWAYS have breakfast!

We got our early voting over with this morning, Since our primary is this coming Tuesday, we decided to go vote early and get it over with, plus beat the crowds. We got there at 8, right when it opened, and there were maybe a dozen people in line, but it went very fast, and we were out by 8:15. We got home and I worked in the yard a bit, and am now having lunch and will go out again to finish what I started, since that area is now in the shade. Just as my impatiens were doing a wonderful job of blooming, we must have had some “visitors” last night and they are now pretty much gone! Should have sprayed with Liquid Fence!

    1. Joy in northern CA

Oh those deer! If that is what got the impatiens. We seem to have had a lot this year. Moms and their fawns especially. I haven’t had any impatiens for several years, but I should put some in again. Love the color out in front on the brick patio. Usually, the deer don’t come up there, but they did nip my agapanthus this year.

I love eggs and would be fine with having them every morning, if I ate breakfast. Around here eggs tend to be for supper. I love to make kind of a hash with diced potatoes, eggs and cheese. If I have meat left over from another meal I sometimes add that but mostly just the eggs are the protein. And we usually have garlic toast with it. Makes for a good meal and easy clean-up.

We are lunching early today because I have a video chat scheduled with our daughter. Her life is so busy I have to wait till she’s facing a lull. Fortunately I’m more flexible so we manage to connect every few weeks. But she is an hour ahead of me and when she said 2 p.m. I forgot that would be 1 p.m. for me, hence an early lunch.

  8. Anne Coldron in Christchurch NZ

I love eggs too and often have them for lunch or maybe omelettes for dinner occasionally. I don’t often have them for breakfast because I eat breakfast as I am checking my e mails and reading the blog and it is hard to eat eggs and toast or whatever at my desk. Though I did use to make an omelette a while ago, I could eat that with just a fork. Before I went to England and while I was there I would have two toasted crumpets for breakfast. The Warburton’s thick crumpets I had in UK were delicous, so tasty in fact that when I came home the NZ ones were a complete let down. Now I have oats with oat milk and salt (no sugar) and have a mashed banana in it. I soak the oats in the milk and salt overnight and cook them in the morning, takes 4 mins in the winter and 3 and a half in the summer in the microwave.
Sam is helping take care of a 5 yr old for three days. Her friend and her partner have had to go to the N.Island, Auckland I think, for a funeral. He has been staying with another friend overnight but Sam picked him up to take him to school since it is not far from here and picked him up from school and took him back to the friend for the night. but today she is picking him up and he is staying with us for the night. Terri-Anne comes back tomorrow evening.
She is home now from the school run so we are going to watch the netball. Have a good day everyone
