Hi everyone and Happy Monday to you!
I thought I’d catch you up on a few things since I’ve been missing in action of a while.
This morning when I was taking care of the hens and picking the tomatoes and cukes off the vines, I found something adorable. It was a very tiny bird’s nest in one of the tomato plants, almost up at the top, with some leaves draping over it. I saw something fly out of the nest but wasn’t sure what kind of bird it was. I looked in the nest and saw 3 tiny little babies sleeping. The momma Wren landed on the fence by the hens and started chirping at me, so I quickly snapped this picture of her babies and left her alone.
My hubby was discharged from the hospital a few days ago and it was nice to finally be back home. 19 days in the hospital was way too long for my hubby to be confined to a bed. Now he’s home and pretty much in his recliner, but it’s still better than being poked and prodded all night in the hospital.
If you missed my previous update, the blockage wasn’t an intestinal blockage but turned out to be a recurrence of the bladder cancer that was discovered 8 years ago. It has apparently been dormant all these years and just since February has made itself known again.
It is Stage 4 this time, so time is of the essence… my hubby had major surgery and most of the ‘replumbing” they had done to make things work, has all been stripped away. He still has the Nephrostomy tubes in this back that are draining his kidneys.
We are in search of an Oncologist who can help him get the right treatment to see if he can get rid of the cancerous tumors they weren’t able to remove in his lower pelvis area. It is quite a daunting task to try and find the right doctor who we think can help save his life. We both are trying to stay positive and trust the Lord to lead us to the right one.
I won’t lie… this is VERY hard to wake up each day and try to do the things that you think will matter the most. We truly do appreciate the prayers that many of you have been praying. We can feel them.
Today Kristoffer came over and pretty much figured out how to get the automatic chicken door figured out and working. We set it to close at 8:00 p.m. and open in the morning at 6:00 a.m. The door closed tonight at 8:00, but some of the hens were still wandering around outside, so I had to wait till about 8:30 and go shoo them in another door and close them up for the night. I will especially LOVE it if the door opens as it is supposed to at 6:00 in the morning. Oh, happy day!!!
I haven’t stepped foot into my sewing room except to get a pair of hemostats to use on one of the Nephrostomy tubes that was stuck when I was trying to flush them tonight.
So, I will have to start using my questions again… I hope you don’t mind.
Have you ever met a Celebrity?
I’ll go first. I didn’t actually meet him and shake his hand, but I was in a fabric store here in town, when someone came in the store and shouted, Red Skelton is next door at 710 Bookstore! I left the counter and went outside to see him. He was outside on the sidewalk and LOTS of people were around him. We used to always watch him on TV and I loved his gentle spirit!

Jeanne, I cannot tell you how relieved I was to see a real update on George in the blog tonight (it’s not even midnight on Sunday as I type this). So relieved, I almost cried. I’ve been so worried.
I will be sure to pass the update along to our prayer group at church; I know they have been really concerned, too.
I’m glad to hear that George is home, and has been for a few days–that part is the good news. The cancer part is not, but we will be praying that you find an oncologist who can help. You have some challenging days/weeks/months ahead of you, for sure.
Oh, my, such a tiny nest, and little baby birds! I wonder what kind of birds they are? Hopefully you’ll get a better look at the parents one of these days, and you can let us know!
Have I met a celebrity?! Several, actually!! First, 1959 at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier: Gene Autry! I was 13, and Paul was almost 12. What a thrill, as we were huge fans of his! We watched his show every Saturday!! I have a picture of Gene with us; maybe I can take a picture of it and send it to you. He was so very nice!
I’ve also met JoAnn Worley and Ann Sothern, after shows they did out here. Then in the early 1980s, I think, I met Debbie Reynolds when she was moderating a fashion show (she represented Leslie Fay Petites). She was very nice!
The highlight, especially for Ron, was meeting Jane Powell and Howard Keel after they did a matinee performance of “I Do! I Do!” at the Fifth Avenue Theater in Seattle. I encouraged him to go to the stage door, just in case they would accept fans/sign autographs, so we did, and they did! Howard Keel came out first, and Ron asked if he’d ever released a record or CD of all his movie songs; he hadn’t, but a couple of years later, he did!
And then….drumroll….Jane Powell. (Ron’s absolute all-time very most favorite actress in the entire world!!) I was trying to get a picture of them together (which didn’t turn out–darn) and he looked at her and said, “I just love you.” (When I told him about it later, he was appalled, and thought “she must have thought I was a masher!” and I said no, I thought she probably thought it was very sweet.)
Anyway, I will tell you, that man did Not drive home that day…he flew, on a rosy pink cloud! It took a week to wipe the grin off his face!! 😂🤣😂 No kidding–I’d look at him sitting on the sofa, staring off into space with this silly grin on his face….
