My weekend… and what I made…

Hi everyone,
It’s that time again when all little girls in my house who model dolly clothes, must relinquish the outfit they’ve been standing in all week and let the winner have it. Yes, it’s the end of another Ebay auction from me tonight. This time it’s American Girl Molly who must take off that sweet “fruity forties” dress I called “Picnic Fun” and get back on the dolly shelf.

If you missed seeing this fun dress set, I hope you’ll take a peek on Ebay to see if you have a doll who needs it. You can click the picture at the right side bar or you can click HERE. I’ll be watching to see if I know which little dolly is going to get it! :o)

I hope all the mother’s out there had a wonderful time being with family, if possible. I’ll show you what my kids got me for Mother’s Day:
Rebecca sent me a gift card along with her sweet card and then… what else… fabric! :o) This time it was something she picked up for me at her Joann Fabric’s store in PA that was going out of business. Look at this really pretty white with tiny pink flocked hearts tulle. I see LOTS of darling little slips in my future. There are 2 yards and it’s 54″ wide… YAY… plenty to make lots of slips!

Kristoffer drew this picture for me using a Sharpie pen… and he said this was about his 14th try. He kept making little mistakes and you know Sharpie markers…they are permanent. Then he framed it but he “knew” I’d have some gold ribbon, so we added the gold ribbon trim along the edges today when he came over… It’s in a stand up frame or I can hang it on my wall. It’s very nice!

Okay, do you want to know what I did this weekend? I played with a Barbie I found at the Goodwill. Well, actually, truth be told, I only played with her shoes. They are little clog like shoes and when I saw them, I thought, “I think these would work for Ten Ping… not for her foot to fit “inside” them, but for me to wet-mold my leather shoes around them. And you know what? I was right… they were an absolute perfect fit when they dried and were removed from the shoe mold. This is what I mean… Here is the Barbie with the tiny little rubber shoes on…

This is what I mean by using them for a shoe mold… The leather was wet and then molded around the “outside” of the shoe… and it was a great fit… for each pair of made… These shoes will fit the 8″ Ten Ping and Gigi dolls as well as the Mini Ruby Red Fashion Friend dolls like Sara, Hannah, Bella, Frieda, and maybe others I’ve forgotten.

Here are the 4 pair I made… (Yes, Ten Ping’s dress is about 2 sizes too small, but it was better than being nekkid! :o)

The pink ones were first… They are more like a clog… the toe was cut a little further back than the others. I had fun decorating them with some punched out leather flowers and beads. They were a very soft, thin leather so they look a bit more comfy on the feet.

The burgundy shoes were next… They were a little bit stiffer leather, but still soft… they molded VERY nicely.

Next I made a pair of mint green shoes… They are a really pretty color but my camera didn’t pick up how nice they look.

Each time I made a pair I tried to make it better than the one before. I should have wiped them off before I took my pictures. I see little pieces of fluff on them. Here are the metallic light gold or maybe platinum shoes… they asked for a bow on them! :o)

Well, that’s how I had fun this weekend… what did you do?

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

What thoughtful children you have! They know just what you would like. Yes, that tulle will be wonderful for dolly slips, or you could even use it as the overlay on a party dress, and maybe make the sleeves sheer. (Hint hint)

TenPing’s shoes turned out very nicely. I know someone who thinks she Needs the pink ones!! 😂 Are you going to make outfits to go with these shoes, or just put them in your Etsy shop? Inquiring minds want to know!

Hope everyone had a nice Mother’s Day. I did, although it was a quiet one. I did post on yesterday’s blog.

Some year ahead of Mother’s Day, you should ask for pictures of our mothers–that might make a fun post on a day when you don’t have time to sew, perhaps?

    1. Oh yes, that would be nice. And fathers.
I just found a three page long write up (answering questions for my daughters writing assignment) my father typed up.
My parents were incredible. They truly were the greatest generation
I thought about you this week-end Charlotte.
I often do. I am so glad you have a lot of support and loving care from friends and famliy.

We did have a beautiful day weather wise, Jeanne, for once! Sunny and warm, just right! I know how hard it is for some people to try to accomplish seeing their mothers, and mother-in-law’s, especially while working, so I told my daughter to spend time with her children and we will go out for lunch when school is over. She did bring me flowers at church, since we go to the same church, and then our so. Called from Denver for a nice long chat. It was nice to just relax and sit outside on the patio, and enjoy not having to do anything! Oh, I forgot to mention that I made a cherry pie just because I haven’t had one for so long!

Our neighbors had a crawfish boil yesterday outside, but oh gosh, that is not for me at all! Of course, they are from New Orleans, so I guess that’s a normal thing there. Their two children gave me a pretty African Violet plant and Mother’s Day card. They are the sweetest family!

I love the gifts you got from your children, who know you very well I love the pretty pink hearts on the tulle you got from Rebecca. Kristoffer is really a talented artist, why isn’t he an art teacher?? He would be wonderful with high schoolers!

The shoes are darling, and I could not figure out at first why you got a Barbie! That is the last doll I would ever get!🤣. But you knew all along what you were going to do with her!
Those shoes are just darling, and they will be a hit with the smaller dolls, who I am sure, don’t have a lot of shoes to pick from.

Yes, Linda that is what we do in the spring – eat crawfish! Especially on Easter and Mother’s Day. While the rest of the country is tucking into ham and potato salad we are peeling crawfish! Well that used to be me as I no longer live in south Louisiana. My son did improvise on that experience for me with a low country boil on Mother’s Day. You have a sweet family too!

So funny, the name given to those beasts. Well, to me anyway. We always called them crawdads out here when I was little. But, when I taught 3rd grade, one of our science units was on Crayfish. We actually raised them for a month in the classroom. The kids were adept at picking them up from the back so they wouldn’t be pinched. The table groups would bring them to their tables in a tub and then they would feed them dry cat food. They kept journals and wrote about them as they molted. They of course, had names. At the end of our unit, I would draw names from notes from home signed by a parent as we sent them on their way. I remember some lived for several years in a guest bathroom bathtub. 🙂 We did talk about some people eating them, but I don’t think they would have considered this with their pets. 🙂

O60 h,Jeanne, what sweet tiny shoes! So good to see you working again. We will be heading out for the Y, water aerobics for me and the treadmill for Peyton. His hand doc still doesn’t want him to get in the pool. The treadmill has been good for his walking, though. We can see that he is walking better.
I got my 3 month back shot last week, it really helps.
My Mother’s Day was lovely. My sons called me together and we had a lovely talk in the car all the way to church. They sent flowers, tulips, which came on Saturday. I also received a face time with my 13 year old granddaughter. Her dad is my older son who will be 60, this month. His wife is 11 years younger. He traveled a LOT before settling down to getting married.
I hope each and every one of you had a lovely day.

    1. Sissy, you had a lovely week-end. I am glad Peyton is improving.
You received a lot of loving attention from your boys, how sweet.

    2. Anne Coldron in Christchurch NZ

Sissy, my son will be 60 in January and has a 14 yrs old daughter as well as a 35 yr old daughter and a 31 yr old son! His oldest grandaughter is only a yr or so younger than her niece. They were both in their 40’s when he married his second partner and Wendy was quite a surprise as Robyn didn’t think she would be able to have children.

  5. you picked up a Barbie just for her shoes. … haha nice.
These shoes turned out super super cute, all of them. Wow! Each time you get better and better. Kind of like when I was a figure skater and to learn certain moves you really had to do it a “million times” I was not a professional but my friends would ask, how did you get so good at that, and that was my answer, do it a million times. Isn’t that kind of like every thing in life? yeah.
Well, I had a quiet Mother’s day week-end. I cleaned up and tended to my gardens because the weather was cool in the morning.
I got a mother’s day card from my youngest daughter (Elizabeth), She married a controlling guy and I have not seen her in three years… 4 babies,…. call it “estranged” because that is what it is…. I miss them. Anyway, I got this large envelope in the mail and did not know what it was, and then I saw some label and thought my oldest daughter has sent me something cute, Christina is so so loving and caring, and that is what I was thinking as I opened the envelope and found this huge card that you push the bottom and make 3-D tulips in a basket. The card was from Elizabeth! I cried for 15 minutes. I try to temper my hope. That whole bit of drama in my life is like a car crash. I just have to move on. She does this “rarely/sometimes” and I have been conditioned to not over react,
Anyway, then…. OH! I found a Marie Calendars Dutch Apple Pie in the little freezer!!! wowww
I popped it in the oven and we had pie! It turned out okay. yes, yummy, so much sugar!!
I painted the door to the garage so it looks nice.
I “relocated” some zinnias (store bought) in the gardens because they looked sad where they were. I trimmed some trees.
Today is going to be a great day!
Jeanne, your son is very very artistic, that picture is beautiful! I love it.
Now you have some shoes that will certainly give you some inspiration!
Happy Monday to all of you.
I need to pack some more stuff. Remember though, we do not have to move out immediately, but on Thursday when we get the keys (settlement is late in the day in Vienna Virginia 45 mins away) You know I will be bringing ALL of my sewing stuff first to the new place. It is going to be a mess. I am making a list to try to be a bit organized about essentials.
My oldest daughter is coming in June when school is out. She will bring the girls so it will be helpful and a bit wild.
Just a bit of sadness…. Miles my cornish rex red mackerel Tabby is 15 and he is doing very poorly. I am a good nurse, but it is difficult. Miles always adored my husband (also named Rex Raymond) so I am just going to support him and let him decide. Having pets is so wonderful until they get decrepit and then it is difficult because we love them so much.

Very sorry to hear of your kitty’s health problems. Hoping for the best, but it is so hard.

    2. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

Thank you for your kind reply, Rosemary.
I can imagine that receiving that card from your youngest daughter brought joy and sadness all at once. I am so sorry that she and her family are estranged from you.
My younger sons daughters are pretty much that way to me. They have always lived in Washington state. We would fly there twice a year to visit. When they were small there was so much love from them, we had such good times. As they got older they grew more distant. When I was going to have my 80’th birthday I mention to my son that I guessed I would never see them again. He brought them to visit for my birthday. That was almost 6 years ago now, and I have never seen them since and doubt if I ever will. I didn’t even get a text from the Christmas gifts this year. They are in their 20’s now. At least I have videos of the happy times with them long ago.

I can relate Sissy. My oldest grandchildren (the parents of my two great grandaughters) live in the North Island, not as far away as Washington but far enough. They never visit and any greetings are usually via Facebook. These days not even that.

        1. Joy in northern CA

Well, I’m with Rosemary, Sissy, and Anne. We have not heard from our oldest daughter in over 20 years. Once she moved out after college and out of town, we did hear from her occasionally, but then not so much. She wanted to do her own thing and has. We occasionally do a search for her, so we have a general idea of what she’s doing, but no communication. She missed out on both sets of grandparents who loved her dearly as they aged and would ask how she was doing. I had no answer for them, and they are now all deceased. It’s sad, but life goes on.

Great gifts, Jeanne. Love that heart tulle. Might be cute as a tiny little dress too. 🙂
We had a lovely day with the grands. Cards received and a sweet little handmade by middle grand trinket dish. Everyone brought salads and son in law barbecued the most delicious chicken. We had fun touring the house being flipped next door. It has come so far already. Previously owned by slightly deranged woman. A hoarder of sorts who even collected water barrels, all full if you can believe. The diving pool, it is deep, is being refurbished as well. Hopefully, the nesting owls in the palm tree out in front will remain. 🙂
Some news this morning on tariffs. Will be interesting to see how things play out in the doll world. 🙂

I love anything on your Ten Ping. Those shoes will make a nice addition to anything you decide to sew for her. I agree, the tulle with the pink hearts will make very nice slips for some lucky dolls. Kristoffer is very talented. I am impressed that her created that picture with a permanent marker! Sad news about Joann’s. We just heard that the one in our county will be closing soon.

  8. Barbara in SE Texas

I love all those cute little shoes and if you ever decide to make and sell them by themselves I know of several little dolly girls here who would love a pair. Maybe you could make some for the Boneka dolls since dolls that wear that size shoes seem to have been forgotten since the company that used to make them no longer does and all my go-to shoe shops don’t carry their size any longer.

Your gifts from Rebecca and Kristoffer were so thoughtful. The picture is really special and I love the tulle. I had a lovely Mother’s Day. After church Sean and his family, Jason and Stephanie and David and I met at our favorite hibachi restaurant, Atami. We do that for Father’s Day too since we all love it and its affordable and fun. Andrea and I have scheduled a video chat for next Sunday since after attending choir rehearsal, church and then lunch on Mother’s Day I am usually exhausted when I get home. Talking/seeing her next Sunday will allow me to totally focus on what’s been going on in her life, which is very busy and full since she and her family moved to Maine.

I’m late checking in with the blog because I wanted to jump on finishing the twin’s pinafores today. I will finish them up as soon as I’m finished here. I don’t think I’m going to make any of their like-size dolly friends pinafores any time soon. I don’t think any of the prom dresses I’ve made stressed me out as much as these tiny pinafores. They are going to look adorable in their new frocks but I’m more than ready to move on to something else. I have no trouble making little dresses for them, but these pinafores were a struggle. A lot of detail in a little space.

The shoes are lovely Jeanne. I can’t imagine working on anything that small. Good luck with the auction. I am sure Molly’s outfit will do well.
The gifts you received were lovely and very thoughtful. My grandaughter one year painted a triptych for me, it is very hard to explain, maybe I will send a photo. I just recently had my birthday and we all went out for dinner and I mainly got money for gifts for my trip (Darren gave me $50NZ and a £20 note he had found in a pocket after his last trip to UK lol). Anyway Russel (my youngest) came round on Saturday with a card and a gift, he reckoned he would be too hungover on Sunday! He is the most loving son but worries me to death. Darren and Deborah came round on Sunday with a gift too.
    Have a lovely day everyone
