I’m using the name of the fabric for this dress set. I think it’s so pretty!
First, I did a bit checking to see if it’s Winters Song or Winter’s Song (with an apostrophe) and it appears Winter can’t really possess anything, so Winters Song is acceptable. I’m going with what was on the selvage of the fabric… Winters Song. I hope that is acceptable with everyone. :o) Oh the issues we run into with sewing and naming our outfits!
Okay, onto the dress… It’s ALL finished…
The skirt was added…it was hand hemmed… the handwork was all done. I sewed the snaps on the back. I decorated the white lace with glass red and gold seed beads and ran a six strand length of Christmas green floss through the beading on the lace and tied it in a bow.
With the dress finished, I turned my attention to a slip for her… one of my dropped yoke slips to keep it from being too bulky at the waist…
It’s nice and holds out her dress really well, and if you like you can pull it down just a bit and have it peek out from under her skirt.
I used my scalloped scissors to cut the tulle, but it’s not real noticeable.
Next, she HAD to have a new pair of thigh highs, so she got new white ones with pretty flowers on them.
Then I found a pair of black patent leather shoes for her to wear with this. (I LOVE black patent leather shoes with Christmas dresses!)
These won’t come with the dress, but are just to make the set look nice! :o)
So this is what Noel looks like with her dress, slip, thigh highs and some shoes on.
I pulled her mane back to get it out of her face for now…
I laid her down so you could see the whole look better. It was dark in my sewing room with her down so low on my table…
A few more things and this set will be ready for Ebay… If I keep at it, maybe I can make it through my dolly list! :o)
I will see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Noel’s dress is just beautiful, and her entire ensemble is coming along nicely. You really got a lot done today!!
Barbara, I’m glad you found a new church which was open to a choir ministry! That is wonderful. I haven’t sung in a choir in many years, and as I get older and older, my voice seems to get worse and less cooperative. Menopause is not kind to women’s voices, I’m afraid, and unless you use it/practice a Lot, it goes down the tubes quickly after a certain age. At our old church, I was in the handbell choir, and really enjoyed that; I found out that, a few years after we left, they sold the bells, tables, music, etc. to a church somewhere in Texas, and then later got rid of both the piano and the organ so all they have is a “worship band” now. 😔 Not my idea of “church music” at all. Fortunately our current church has both organ and piano, and we sing out of hymnals!! Love it. Except *I* am the piano player, and not the best, by a long shot. Yesterday our organist’s mom (who is a fantastic pianist) and I were talking, and I explained about the difficulties I have with some of the hymns (I have really small hands), and she said, “but you are a confident player, and that’s what matters”. So….I guess that will have to be enough for now, until I get better!!
Tonight at sewing guild I gave a presentation about making doll clothes, and had samples of some of the techniques, etc. to show. Jeanne, I passed along your idea of the three rows of gathering stitches, and had two samples with me, one with three rows and one with just two, so they could see the difference. Thanks for passing along that tip to us here!!
Hi Charlotte,
I DID get a lot done yesterday, didn’t I?
Today I won’t have as much time…so we’ll see what I can accomplish!
I’m sure your church appreciates “however” you play!!!
Thanks for passing along my 3 basting rows tip. I just used it myself on Noel’s slip last night.
Thanks Charlotte,
Blessings, Jeanne
I know what you mean about our voices aging as we get older. That was why I hired a voice teacher a few years ago and worked with her for four years trying to get back some of what I took for granted in my younger days. I told her I used to be a first soprano but can’t seem to reach the higher notes. She herself is a first soprano and told me right off that I still was but that I would have to work with technique since as we get older we don’t have the oomph in our bodies we used to. She was amazing and since I didn’t smoke or scream a lot over the years, I hadn’t lost as much as I thought. But my teacher said a first soprano should never be a belter but soar the notes. Unfortunately with Chorale being sporadic due to COVID and the director’s husband’s heart surgery and no choir to speak of at church I was losing a lot of what I had gained. But with singing more regularly now it is coming back and with it my confidence that I can do it.
When we first joined our previous church we didn’t have an organist and were using “canned” music. We had a choir but they refused to sing harmony so they never did special music. Always being in choirs not singing harmony and doing special music was strange to me but it was better than nothing I guess. Our church now does traditional music but the church Sean and his family are going to is more contemporary so they have a band and sing contemporary Christian music but that is what Sean listens to in his car so he knows those songs and enjoys them.
Just got home from choir practice. We a few but we try hard. we have 9 regulars + our beautiful soprano choir director. 6 of us are in our 80’s or 90’s. My alto wants to become a tenor, but I work at trying to hit notes that used to be easy.
I do not have a great voice but I am able to stay on the pitch, at least.
We started practicing Christmas music tonight, really puts me in the Christmas spirit.
Darling dress, Jeanne, and I love that extra touch of the glass beads on the lace! You always do a little something extra that others seem to omit!
I too was in our church choir as a teen, but that got away from me later on. Our church currently has three choirs and they take turns singing at the masses. My mother was a church organist for over 30 years, my daughter sang in our own choir too, so I am familiar with choirs and organists, plus piano players!
Hi Linda,
Glad you like the glass beads… I wondered if they might make the dress TOO dressy, but when I found those black patent leather shoes I thought they looked better!
Lots of singers in my blog family AND music makers!
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
Linda, what a great musical legacy in your family. A church I attended when I lived in Wilmington, DE, now has not only an adult chancel choir, but a youth, cherub (small children) and madrigal choir. I would love to be part of a madrigal choir but you rarely hear of those anywhere.
Well, internet went out, and there went my post. Ugh.
Looks like we can have a back up group for Taylor Swift around here. 🙂 I too, was in choir as a youngster and preteen.
Tomorrow, I’m cooking some bring along dishes. Hope everyone is getting in the mood for food, friends, and family. 🙂
Hi Joy,
You are way ahead of me… my Thanksgiving dinner is STILL just on paper!
I better get with it!
Have a great day, Joy!
Blessings, Jeanne
When I lived in Wilmington,, DE, and worked for DuPont I sang in the DuPont Chorus for three years. It was an amazing experience with a great many singers. We did our Christmas concert in the DuPont Playhouse downtown and our spring concert on an open-air stage in Longwood Gardens. I moved to Texas and that was the end of that.
When my earlier comment disappeared because of no internet, I had also mentioned how sweet the dress was for Boneka size. Please let Noel know that she is doing a wonderful job modeling. 🙂
Winters Song is the perfect name. I liked it when I saw it on the selvage. Sweet little dress and I agree black patent mary janes are the shoes for Christmas.
Add me to the list of singing in a choir. I sang in our church’s choir as a child and pre-teen and then for awhile time as an adult before the practice time was moved too late in the evening to be feasible with the driving distance. My daughter also sang in our church’s choir as a child/ teen, sometimes singing solos as well as violin solos, especially at Christmas and Easter.
We also sing with hymnals and organ accompaniment.
Thanks Laura,
I think it’s a perfect name for this fabric too!
Add another singer to the list!! What a musical bunch we have here!!!
Thanks Laura
Blessings, Jeanne
Really a perfect Christmas dress. Nothing sweeter than a little girl in a dressy Holiday dress. Your slips are always the perfect touch and it will be interesting to see what else you come up with.
Pecan pies tomorrow and probably lemon meringue too..make everyone’s favorite.
Enjoy making your favorite recipes for Thanksgiving!
Oh…forgot… yes another choir member. I never thought I sang very well but was OK to sing in a group. Choir was always so fun…in church during 7th and 8th grade and Choir in High School. There were always fun chorale contest trips and such fun girls to be friends with. Wonder if singing genes are related sewing and doll lover genes🤪ðŸ¤
My hubby makes cherry and pumpkin pies and Sean usually makes the pecan pies. I don’t know if we’ll have a pecan pie for Thanksgiving or he’ll just wait until Christmas for those.
Hi Kathie,
I have an idea of another piece for this dress… let’s see if I can make it work!
Another singer still yet!!!
I too, was in a Swing Choir in High School… we had a lot of fun singing at places. I am a soprano but can be an alto if need be. :o)
Thanks Kathie!
Blessings, Jeanne
Wow, it looks like I have a lot of fellow musicians as my sofa sisters. Wonderful!
My what a lovely little dress and my dolls already have the black Mary Jane shoes. Can’t wait to see what comes next. The slip is perfect and I love the Christmas fabric of the dress. I love the embellishments on the lace at the waist.
I started out this morning planning to wear something for temps in the high 60s as they have been the past few days, but realized quickly that we were going to be in the 50s all day today and the wind is very nippy. Wardrobe wise this is an interesting time of year.
Dear Jeanne, the dress is adorable. I can’t wait to see what you add.
Oh, dear, another “non” to add to my list. I can’t sing. I really like to and I can sing along with the radio just fine, well, I guess everyone can do that (laugh). Alas, when I start singing around my friends, they just roll their eyes.
