My list of things to post from some of my readers has gotten so long I have almost forgotten if I’ve shown them or not. I had to go back and check to see if I hadn’t already shown these pictures of Linda’s dolls dressed for school this year.
My sisters, Cindy and Deb are coming for another visit sometime this week… (they came home right when my hubby was in the hospital, so I never got to spend any time with them!) I’m doing double duty cleaning and working in my sewing room. I haven’t forgotten about Ten Ping!
This is what Linda shared about her wonderful girls… You will enjoy the pictures!
Jeanne, my 40âs girls are all ready to start school Tuesday! They are wearing uniforms and have school bags and lunch boxes filled with goodies! I made sure they each had crayons, papers, notebooks and pencils too! Betsy is wearing her new school outfit and her favorite headband made by Jeanne Marie!
If you click on Linda’s pictures they will enlarge!
Here is the “public school” version of the 40’s girls scene!đ
Jeanne, here is the other picture I have of Josefina in her Dia de Muertos dress from American Girl. Kaya is dressed in her Fancy Shawl outfit. They both look so colorful and make a great scene together. I do have Josefinaâs school desk and outfit, but she is too busy partying to start school this early!đ
Jeanne, I just cannot get the lighting right for this group! They are in a corner and light does not get there well enough for pictures, but this is the best I can do! The girls have a âpreppy lookâ this year with plaid skirts. I have yet to find a cardigan for Emmy. However, she will be a lot more comfortable than the other two in the weather we are currently having! They all have their backpacks and lunchboxes and are ready for the school year. All AG clothes, except for Emmyâs.
Jeanne, me bothering you again! Just want to show you how I have some of my dolls displayed. This was my daughter, Jenniferâs room, when she lived here, but now itâs mine for my dolls! The big doll sitting on the top was my motherâs, and I got it when she passed away. The top shelf is all Snowbabies, and I am done with them, since no more space! The next two shelves are Madame Alexanderâs that I would get at Tuesday Morning when we would go to Branson. I also have a Shirley Temple doll there, and a Betsy McCall that is 8 inches. Then of course, Felicity, Kirsten and Cecile round out that display. The furniture in there, plus the closet is filled with doll clothes, dishes, accessories, you name. It!
Love to you,
Lindađ
Thank you Linda! I’m sorry it took me SO long to get your dolls featured! I hope they will forgive me! They are just the sweetest things! You do such great scenes for us to enjoy!
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
What a treat your pictures were to see, Linda! Lots to look at in each one. I love Betsy’s dress in the second picture–is it smocked? And my lunch box was very much like Molly’s, only, as I recall, gray and blue (I think gray on the top/bottom and blue around the sides) and my brother’s was gray and green, with thermoses to match. In those days the thermoses were “sealed” with a cork, and then a cap screwed on top; mom always folded a napkin and put inside the cap in case the thermos leaked (which it sometimes did!)
Josefina’s dress is really beautiful; actually Josefina is really beautiful! Sometimes I think I should have gotten her, but we can’t have them all….(well, as we saw in yesterday’s video, some people do seem to “have them all”!!).
I remember furniture like what is in your daughter’s room, and wishing for some like that, but of course I didn’t get it. I did have a desk and a chest of drawers, though–and I actually still have the desk, although it’s in the basement at the moment. Your dolls are so nicely displayed on the shelves! Thanks so much for sharing.
Thank you, Jeanne, for showing my pictures!
Charlotte, yes, that dress on Betsy in the second picture is smocked, which is why I obught it in the first place. Someone else here on the sofa has one too, maybe Dorothy in Pa.? I have a “thing” for smocked dresses, and the print was so 40’s, that I had to have it!
I too, love those tin lunchboxes, and also had one, although most of the time I had to buy my lunch. I am the oldest of 4 girls, and my mother didn’t have much time to make us all lunches in the mornings!
Yes, Josefina is truly a beautiful doll and has so many nice things in her collection. You are right, you can’t have them all! That video from yesterday was an eye opener for me! If I didn’t have a “plan”, I would have that much too!
That is my daughter’s room with the yellow Ethan Allen furniture. She also has a 4 poster bed in there not in the picture. I decided to keep that room as it was, but add my own things when she moved out. My son’s old room is where the 40’s girls hang out! I can’t forget the look on his face when he visited from Colorado and saw what I did to it! đ
I love your girlsâ school pictures! Each picture is done so well. I always look forward to seeing your doll pictures and all the other sofa sistersâ pictures of their dolls too.
I hope to do a school staging one of these days myself with my AMG girls. I also have gotten a few of the âMollyâs school jumpers â for my girls to use at their school. I canât wait to do a scene. Not this year though. The summer went by too fast and we fly the coup like snow birds do.
Thank you, Paula! Oh, you donât have to forget yet about school scenes! The year just started and has a long way to go! You can easily do a school scene in all times of the year, with the various clothes fit for the season.
My situation is, I am not home for 8 to 9 months of the year so my time is sometimes limited with enjoying my dolls.
I think the AMG dolls are so much fun because theyâre bigger ( and easier to dress sometimes) and the dollâs age is fun.
I did get to spend time in my doll room- cleaning and organizing.
This year I gave one of my JLY dollâs a remake- she now wears a beautiful long black wig and she has become a girl in Kayaâs era and world. Havenât figured out a name yet.
Oh, I see what you mean now! Not being home through much of the year complicates things! We would love to see your remake JLY sometime!
Dear Linda, your girls are adorable in their outfits. I am sure they are all going to be on the honor roll!
Thank you, Dorothy! After all I do for them, they better be on the honor roll!đ
Jeanne, enjoy visiting with your sisters! Have a great time and hope you three find some interesting places to go to.
Linda, I love your doll displays! The coordination of outfits and all the details of each scene are such a joy. I think I must credit you with my renewed interest in my American Girls. They look great in outfits, brand and handmade, are easy to dress, and feel solid and sturdy in my hands. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you Debbie, for the kind words and I am flattered to think I renewed your interest in AG dolls! Yes, I feel that AG dolls are just the right size to handle and dress easily. I think thatâs why 18 inch dolls are so popular. I feel like itâs Christmas morning every time I change their clothes! Just so much fun for me! (Iâm easy to please)!âșïž
How nice to have your sisters visit. Hope you get to go to some fun places. Any museums around that you haven’t been to? or local state parks? Might be fun.
Absolutely loved seeing Linda’s two school groupings this year. Uniforms or not, the experience appears to be about the same. Oh, those back to school days of yore. đ
I too have Josephina and Kayla, but not the accessories. Josephina’s dress is so lovely. Wish I had that one. Such a wonderful display for fall.
And the girls at the bus stop with their cute skirts and knee socks are adorable too. Really a delightful scene. đ
The decorating in your daughter’s room is over the top. Love it. Is that wallpaper or did you paint the stripes? It looks so nice. What a fabulous place to display some of your wonderful collections. Love it. đ
Thanks so much for sharing Linda and Jeanne.
Managed to get back to some yard work yesterday. More to go, but we’ll get there. Today, it’s off to Trader Joe’s. đ
Thank you, Joy, and yes, I painted the strips in the doll room. We did have wallpaper everywhere in this house long ago, but have since take it off and used paint, except for the living room. And you might know it, wallpaper is now making a comeback!
Is Betsyâs school outfit the same one you have? Or is it Barbara?
Funny about wallpaper. I guess I can just leave the wall full in the kitchen. It’s been there since maybe the 80’s. đ Bad me.
Not me with Betsy’s outfit. Must be Barbara. đ
Lindaâs dolls are always such a treat to see. Trouble is I canât resist having some of the items she shares with us in the pictures. Iâll bet Iâll be keeping an eye out for Betsyâs darling school outfit! All the little details are so much fun! Wish I had at least one more room for doll things. Thanks for sharing.
Have as much fun as you always do with your sisters! đ„°
Thank you, Susette! I canât resist the things I buy either! So glad I can give you ideas!!đ
Hi Linda, I’m running very late getting her today. Had my eye appointment this morning and then to the grocery store to pick up some things. It’s 1:55 and I have things put away and finally time for lunch.
Always a treat to see your dolls with their sweet outfits and accessories. Pleasant Rowland lured me in with all those fabulous historical accessories. If it hasn’t been to those I would have picked maybe two dolls instead of six, a small amount of clothing and been done with it.
Jennifer’s room makes a wonderful doll room and you can fill the closet and drawers with dolly things. That corner cabinet is especially suited to doll displays. Your little MA dolls are so pretty.
Thank you, Laura! Since you are about my daughterâs age, that room could have been yours! Did you collect dolls when younger? And yes, the closet and drawers are FULL of doll clothes and accessories, plus the under the bed containers! The desk is full too, and even under the desk, so I put a chair in front of that, and it looks pretty normal,âŠ..until you pull out the chair! I think I am finished with adding more dolls, what more do I need anyway? I have all my bases covered!
Thank you so much for the sweet words about my dolls and their room!
First I missed yesterday so thanks for all the pictures from Cindy. She has a beautiful booth and everything is so orderly and easy to see. It’s so nice she gets to spend her time doing something she loves.
I always love Linda’s pictures. How clever to show the parochial school setting with the girls in their uniforms and the public school setting with the preppy look. My grandkids are in between. They go to a charter school which is a form of public school but they wear uniforms. I loved the display in Jennifer’s former room. When my children left I took over their rooms. Andrea’s is the guest room because it is next to the bathroom but it also contains all my picture props and my Hello Kitty collection. Seans’ room became my study which sadly has ended up being the catch-all room for things I’m not sure what to do with. Really need to fix that one of these days. The craft room became more a dedicated sewing room for me and also home to my plethora of dolly daughters. I’m not sure I need a bigger house but sure do wish this one had more storage space so everything would not be out so it wouldn’t look like a hoarder lives here.
I’m reading a “Murder, She Wrote” book right now and it takes place in Hawaii. Maui in particular. It was published in 2014. She describes the beauty of the island. It’s a good book but it makes me sad to read it and realize so much is gone.
Can’t wait to hear about all the fun times with your sisters.
.
Thank you Barbara! Did you see my question to Joy above, where I asked about Betsyâs school outfit? I couldnât remember if it was you or her that also had a Betsy with that outfit. It wasnât her, so I guess you. My 2 grandsons also got to a charter school in Denver and wear uniforms. Seems like most charter school do that. It is quite a mess to change the doll clothes, so I make sure I use the school setting for several changes before putting it all away. Makes things easier!
Awfully late to even do anything except read and study Lindaâs awesome pictures but just have to say these pics are so much fun. Not only the dresses but all the accessories too. The new smocked dress is adorable and the uniforms are too. Ours were so plainâŠnavy for grade school and dark green got HS. IckâŠalways envied the Public School girlsđ€
Have fun with your sisters!
Thank you, Kathie! I had fun putting them all together and deciding what the girls would be wearing, I miss the days when my two children were small and all the fun preparations we had getting ready for school at the beginning of the year. Uniforms take away the questions of âwhat to wear tomorrowâ, but yes, a different dress every day was more fun!
Dear Jeanne, how wonderful! Sister time is just what you need right now.
I can’t wait to hear about your adventures.
