It’s going to be another day with questions… no time for sewing today!
If I don’t do it here, it might not get done… Charlotte, I wanted to tell you I’ve been praying for you and Ron. The decisions you’ve had to make recently cannot have been easy, and as you go home to an empty house, it will be so very hard.
We were walking down a long hall today, going to another doctor appointment for my hubby, and I reached over and took his hand and was thinking of you…
May the Lord be very close to you!!
1. What do you think would be the perfect day?
2. What good or bad traits did you inherit from your parents?
See you,
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh, thank you Jeanne, so very much, for your sweet thoughts and your prayers. We appreciate them so much–and those of the other Sofa Sisters as well.
To answer Joy’s question of yesterday, yes they do have some activities for the residents. This is a small home (4 residents at the moment, I think), so it may not be music groups coming to perform, but definitely some various activities and even the occasional one-on-one outing (such as maybe Ron to the barber shop???). In addition, they are going to try to get some PT for him (the therapist goes there) as he has gotten so very weak.
Today was a long day–I was there 3-1/2 hours!! Paperwork, going over meds, the nurse came and did the assessment, etc. There are still a few more papers to fill out, but I think it’s more personal information about Ron rather than the “nuts and bolts” of the things. When I was going to leave, Elizabeth (the owner) hugged me, and as she hugged me, she prayed for us!! 🥰
Now, your questions: First, the perfect day would be at my aunt and uncle’s house on the shore of Lake Michigan, with Ron and the rest of the family around me. Of course, the house was sold years ago, and many of the family are gone now, but that was about the most perfect day I could think of.
Second, from daddy I got compassion (good) and packrat tendencies (bad). From momma I got my interest in sewing (good) and being opinionated (bad)!! From both I got music–daddy had music as his second minor in college; mom was never able to go to college (she wanted to be a music teacher) but was a pianist, organist, choir director, and soloist–very talented. (No, I’m not That talented, but I do play the piano!)
Dear Charlotte, I am so glad that things are settled and your mind can now be settled knowing that your husband is getting the best care. I am happy that this is a praying facility.
First, Charlotte, I happy to see that things are moving well for Ron’s new “home” and that you feel comfortable with it, which makes things less stressful in a move like this. I hope it continues! Prayers for both of you,
Ok, Jeanne, now the perfect day! First of all, it would be a clear, crisp, fall day, my favorite season! The house would be spic and span, the yard full of flowers and the grass cut! Then, Michael and I would go for a drive to see the fall colors and stop at a few little out of the way places, and maybe a mum stand or two. We would come home, and Michael would start up the grill outside for some barbecue! We would have a nice dinner on the patio, then with fire pit going, make some S’mores, while we would watch the sun go down! Actually, I would just take a nice, clear and crisp fall day anytime!
As for as what I inherited from my parents, I got my father’s talents for drawing and handwriting, although his was a lot better than mine. He loved staying at home and working with flowers, and was on the quiet side. That’s me too!
From my mother I got my love for music, although she was much more talented than I ever was! While I did and do play the piano (sort of), she was a church organist and sang beautifully, plus she loved decorating! They both gave me a wonderful childhood which was always the standard for me in raising my own children.
Maybe you could manage a week of family leave and not have to think up questions. I think I can promise we’ll all be right here when you get back. Just post if you feel like it without the pressure of every weekday. We’re all wishing the best for you and sending prayers for your family. 💐❤️❤️🥰
Dear Jeanne, there are so many wonderful perfect days I can imagine. One would be to take Afternoon Tea with my lovely friends at our favorite tearoom with our dolls as added company. We have one of those days coming up next Saturday. Sumptuous tea, delicious food, sparkling conversation…Pure Bliss!
Glad to hear that Charlotte’s, Ron, will have regular barber visits and some activities as well as physical therapy. All of these things will be helpful for him I think. Good job Charlotte. And please take care of yourself. 🙂
I can’t think of anything except a fun day would be playing with and redressing dolls. 🙂
Today, was another successful day with a doll delivery. Nothing special, but I had knowledge that my Gigi, was to be delivered finally today by USPS. However, mail delivery is something other person always pounces on, so I developed a list of necessities for Safeway. Other person took off with the list. I listened for the mail truck, but was unsuccessful, so I went out and started watering in the backyard. As I finished the upper part, I thought I heard the truck. Turned off the water and headed back inside. Opened the door and yes the mail had arrived. There in front of me on the mat was my awaited Gigi package. Brought her inside and opened the box. Boy that sure was an easy delivery this time. Other person arrived home shortly afterwards, but Gigi, now dressed in Barbi, is already making new dolly friends. 🙂
Dear Joy, another successful caper. I guess the secret is to always have “to-do” lists available (laugh). So glad Gigi is home.
Tea. What a great idea. I had tea at the Savoy, like my dad before me (his was during the war, when he was stationed in England). I had tea in Osaka. I had tea in Loveland, CO, before we went wig shopping before I had chemo. The tea was lovely, the wig seller was nuts and wearing a scent that smelled like eau d’insecticide. No wig for me. I tried, and then we made a fast escape.
What this question brought up was a couple of memories of Paris, where we had less than a day. We walked on the Champs Elysees, had tea and my first and best brioche, and managed a brief visit to the Louvre. Evie wanted me to see the Mona Lisa, and I wanted to see Vermeer’s Lacemaker — we managed both, but the breathtaking thrill was the Winged Victory of Samothrace. As we skidded down the hall, I turned foe some reason, and there was a Y-shaped marble stairway. There was a stairway, a landing, and then the stairs divided. On the landing was the Winged Victory, alone. The divided stairs behind her echoed the shapes of her outstretched wings. Perfection isn’t something you find every day.
Another question you might try would be about an experience we learned from.
Dear Marilyn, taking Afternoon Tea is my absolute favorite thing to do. I am so glad you have been able to enjoy this wonderful indulgence as well! I have taken tea in Paris. That was exquisite.
I too strolled along the Champs Elysees. I visited the Louvre but the Mona Lisa was not on display then. This was many, many years ago. But, of course, one never forgets Paris.
