Colorful Wool Felt Jackets for Ten Ping

I didn’t have much time to spend in my sewing room today, but this evening I did manage to get something colorful done.

But first… do you want to see Ten Ping’s new white knee socks? Her shoes are such a tight fit, I had to use the thinnest knit I could find. I cut a piece of some little girls tights and used that, and added an elastic ruffle at the top. (I know they are lacy, but these tights were less “snaggy” than just the solid white tights I had.) Her shoes will still go on, but they are tight! I have already modified my shoe pattern to make them one stitch longer at the heel section. (next time they should fit perfectly!)

Next, I knew I wanted a wool felt jacket for her, but I have quite a few colors, so I thought I’d show you what I did. I cut out 7 different jackets (I can use the extra ones another time) and will show them on Ten Ping… I’m hoping there is a clear favorite, but if not, I’ll decide.

Here are the jackets I cut out… and I gave them a color name…

First up is a color I’m calling Denim blue… it’s like a faded jeans color and it picks up one of the main threads in the red plaid skirt.

Next up is the Aqua wool felt… it too, looks nice with the skirt…

I’m calling this next color a Royal Blue…

Now this next color gave me fits… I’m calling it Turquoise and it truly is a turquoise, but my camera would not recognize that. I tried all different lighting in my sewing room. I tried editing the color and nothing worked… It’s VERY pretty with the skirt… but the color you’ll probably see on your monitor is NOT the way it looks in person…

Yellow is seen in the skirt as one of the main threads…

This Periwinkle color is one of the main colors in the skirt too… if you look closely you can see it…

Last up is basic Black.

I could decorate each jacket differently and I may use my scalloped scissors and do the edges that way… I guess we’ll see what everyone thinks…

I will see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Definitely the black. It’s one thing to see the colors of threads that are picked up when you view it “up close”, but somehow when viewed at a distance, it’s not always as evident.

My second choice would be yellow, and if you do that, then maybe a little black top to go underneath. I really love black with that plaid! (If you do a black jacket, perhaps you could pick up one of those other colors in a blouse.)

I had a fun fun lunch today, with a friend I hadn’t seen since Halloween 2019!! (She’s the one who, like I do, always brings a doll to our lunches out, and on Halloween we used to dress our dolls in costume and bring them to lunch, usually at the AG Place Bistro that we used to have pre-pandemic.)

I brought along my new Russell (who has a new first name, Nolan; he told me right off that Russell was his middle name!) and she brought her newest AG doll; we exclaimed over the high quality of his clothes, and I think she is about ready to order her first RRFF in the near future!

How wonderful you have a friend to “play dolls” with. I’m not so fortunate. Even my granddaughter is showing little interest these days.

I echo Charlotte in picking the black. I was surprised there was no navy to choose from, but maybe there is no navy in the plaid. The only other color I would pick would be the Royal Blue, nothing else strikes me to go with the red plaid of the skirt. A nice crisp, white blouse would be cute with a black bow tied around the neck and I would finish it off along with a cute little tam. That’s what I would do, so let’s see what others think.

I love this little pleated skirt, such tiny little pleats! I can’t wait to see the completed outfit!
My vote would be the Royal Blue, I think it makes it look like a school uniform, maybe with some kind of emblem on the front?

I’m with Charlotte, Linda, and Karen. Black is my choice. And I agree with Linda on the white blouse. As to the knee socks, I’m not a fan of that ruffle. Maybe put a ruffle on the white blouse? That said, TP, looks so cute in this great back to school outfit. Maybe she needs a school emblem on her jacket or a simple pin, but not flowers. And a little bag would be so cute to carry her school supplies. This is going to be a very popular outfit. 🙂

I loved the royal blue until I scrolled to the black which just jumps out as perfect.
Im sure the blouse you choose will be cute and another book bag too?
Making Hawaiian Delight for our Golf Group tonight. We used to golf and eat…now we just get together to eat🤭😍

I agree with all those above who voted for Black. I’d be curious to see if you had a red to match the skirt and how that would look.
I don’t love the ruffle on the knee socks. It’s too dainty for the shoes and kilt.
Way back when I was a Girl Scout we had “tassels” we wore on our knee socks. It was like a little tab of green or yellow that matched the uniform that we wore on our knee socks. I think the tassel/tab was on elastic which held up the knee socks. I loved them! Maybe something similar would work?
I love how the loafers turned out!

  7. I’m with the consensus on the black. I also like the turquoise because even though the plaid was different I had a red and turquoise plaid skirt that I wore with a turquoise sweater. A shower is moving in and boy do we need relief from the heat and the smoke. A kitty went for a half year check-up this morning and well before nine it was already hot. I ran down to my widower neighbor friend, Bob so we could do a quick outdoor kitty head count and then inside.

Another vote for black here. My second choice was the yellow because it made for a great contrast to the skirt, but if I only have one choice it’s for the black. I like the knee socks, but then that could be because I’ve bought these type socks for several of my dolly girls. They wear them with everything. I too think the jacket should look more like a school blazer. Wish I could see the plaid in person. It’s hard to pick out the colors even enlarging the pictures.

Dear Jeanne, I vote for Royal Blue (sorry Sisters). My second choice is yellow.

Whatever color you choose will work as the outfit is so cute.

    2. Hi Alina,
I’m going to sneak in her and say “Hi” too! I hope you are well and staying busy! We miss hearing from you, really we do! :o)

Nice to hear you remember me sofa girls. I still work professionally and have little free time for hobbies. In February 2023, my third granddaughter Hania was born. In June my daughter Aleksandra got married. Happens. I read Jeanne’s blog regularly, I don’t have time to sew. I knit and crochet clothes. I greet everyone.
