A new Blazer for Ten Ping…

Wow… that was the easiest choice I ever gave you all! It was almost unanimous to make the black wool jacket… so I did!

But… I only had time to get the jacket for Ten Ping done today…

But… I so wanted to show it with a white blouse…

But… I didn’t have time to make a white blouse… so this is what you get today! :o)

I’m going to call this my “30 second faux blouse.”

My next dilemma was to make some kind of a crest or badge or feature for the jacket to make it a little more “preppy” or school-like.

I got into my vintage buttons and found a few, but they were so old and worn looking… I wasn’t sure. I could have embroidered something, but I didn’t know what… So I found a button that intrigued me… I reminded me of something you might see on a blazer…

I took it to my hubby and said, “Do you know what I can use to clean off this button?” In 3 seconds he said, ketchup! So I tried it…

The difference was incredible… I better take stock in ketchup as I have lots of those vintage buttons that need cleaning!

Okay, now to the jacket…

I used my scalloped scissors and trimmed the edges so they were the same on both sides… and then the back and the sleeves…
Then I decided to stitch it in red… (using my Featherweight machine… of course!)

I added a little felt flower to the back of the button just enough that the edges showed… kind of like scallops… and some tiny gold buttons…

So with the “faux blouse” and the “vintage crest” this is what Ten Ping looks like wearing it…

Here are two more pictures of her…

Well, what do you think?

I will have something for you on Monday!
Blessings, Jeanne

My goodness, who’d have thought you could clean a metal button with ketchup?! I sure didn’t know that.

That black jacket is turning out really cute; the red stitching is a nice accent. The button for the crest works well, since I imagine it would be nigh onto impossible to find one that small in the sewing world.

No doubt that the jacket would be black, Jeanne! That was the best choice by far, and it works beautifully! The red stitching, the scallops and button make it distinctive and cute as well! This is shaping up to be a darling little school outfit! Loved the 30 second faux blouse too! Something even I could do! 🙂

The wonders of ketchup never cease! Years ago, our cat got “involved” with a skunk, and one of the remedies for that was to rub the cat with ketchup to take away the odor. What a mess that would create! I am not sure if that would work, since I never tired it, even if my cat would have sat still while I rubbed ketchup on him, but it certainly does have it’s various uses besides used as a condiment!

I think she looks pretty nice 🙂
Thank you for sharing the ketchup cleaning trick! I need to put that in my arsenal. My favorite trick is using peanut butter to remove bubble gum from hair 🙂

Is that a brass button? If so, I always use ammonia. Just pour some in a plastic bowl, put in the object, and almost instantly, the tarnish is removed. I sometimes use an old toothbrush to clean tiny spaces. It can also be used for old brass cabinet/dresser handles as well. But, you have to use plastic gloves. The stuff is pretty harsh. It must be the acid in the ketchup that helps with the tarnish removal as well.
I like the scallops on the jacket for TP. Gives it a more feminine look I think. And the red stitching is lovely. I think the button/emblem is too large though. Is it removable? Then the buyer can add what they like.
Well, wouldn’t you know it, I have ended up with two packages arriving today. It has taken quite awhile for both to finally arrive in the US, and one was mailed out a week and a half before the other. And now both are set to arrive together. Have no idea how these are going to be undiscovered by other person who globs onto the mail like an octopus. May be doubly hard as we will likely be out in front continuing to attack the oleander bushes. We’ll see. Need to think of what I can tell other person might be in the boxes. Drawing a blank here.
Have a cool weekend anyone that can.

You definitely have a dilemma coming up. Is OP’s birthday coming up? If so, maybe you could say they’re birthday gifts for him. But I’m not sure how often you could use that without coming up with the actual goods. Must be a man thing about the mail. David always acts like it’s Christmas when the mail comes. Probably because he doesn’t have to deal with it. I’m the one who sorts it. If it’s bills I pay them. If it’s junk mail it goes in recycling. All he does is get it, see if there is anything especially for him and then dump it on my desk.

Dear Joy, yeaaa, that means you will have a caper story to share with us on Monday! I like Barbara’s idea for a reason. You could also say that you were doing a swap with a friend and you don’t know what she is sending you.

I kind of wondered if the emblem might be a little large, too, but thought maybe it was just me.

Oh, boy…well good luck with the double delivery today!! Maybe you will suddenly need something at the store?? We shall find out!!

Ketchup?…who knew☺️ She looks very preppy and ready for school! The little black jacket is so cute and the blouse will be just right…will it have a collar?

Yikes! That’s a lot of potato salad!!! I’ve never been good at making potato salad myself, but I like it a lot. Probably good I’m not good at making it! Lol!

What a cute little outfit. And it will fit Mini Sara too! Lots of bidders for this one. I love the jacket and what a clever emblem. I’ve got to get me some of those scalloped scissors. And thank George for the ketchup idea. Never heard that one before.

I’m having dolly doldrums at the moment. I ordered Betsy’s cousin Linda a few weeks ago. The woman who had the doll asked me if I would be okay with her mailing it at the end of July because she was in the midst of construction and couldn’t get to the box. I said no problem. But then I got a message from eBay saying Linda was on her way (based on the ordering date I guess). She was supposed to arrive yesterday but didn’t. I checked with the seller and she hadn’t mailed her yet but hopes to very soon. Bummer!

Dear Barbara, hello. I had that happen once and here is what the seller told me. She said that etsy sends vendors periodic messages reminding them to send out the items that were ordered. Sometimes vendors check that the items were sent so that they don’t get the messages any longer, especially if there is going to be a delay in shipping. I am not sure if that applies to ebay though.

      1. Barbara in SE Texas

That may be the same for eBay. I ordered an outfit for my Ginger doll and the seller accidentally had not removed it from her site when it was sold so it was no longer available. She contacted me immediately. When I got the notice for feedback I wasn’t sure how to do it because I wanted to praise the seller for being honest with me but it asked me if the product had arrived on time. I was giving feedback on another item when I realized I could just click on positive and give my opinion without clicking on the arrival date.

BEAUTIFUL, Jeanne, just BEAUTIFUL! Little “Ten Ping” was already a LOVELY doll; now, dressed in your FABULOUS creation, she’s just to “DIE” for!!!!!!! (MY “Ten Ping” is “jealous”…! A black felt jacket WAS the BEST choice for this skirt’s plaid coloration; I just hope that the black felt is “non-staining” to the vinyl/plastic arms & neck areas. As a longtime collector of vinyl, plastic, & PVC dolls, this “staining” issue is one of which I ~ sadly ~ always have to be aware.)

    1. designdreamer

Amen! I made some black tights for granddaughter’s WW doll, and forgot about her, months later I went to take them off, and she had black marks all over the place. Fortunately I was able to get rid of all of them with

Have you seen that Ten Ping is getting a boyfriend for her 15th anniversary? He’s Paul, based on the real Ten Ping’s real husband. I think he’s wearing black and white, which would to well with this outfit. I think the outfit is perfect. The skirt is wonderful and the shoes really work with it. Fall is coming. I’m looking forward to more of these shoes.

  9. Debbie in North Carolina

That outfit is cute enough to make me want a Ten Ping.

    Praying for George’s upcoming surgery.

  10. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, the outfit has come together nicely.

I think I am the only one who still says “catsup” but that’s how I learned to say it. However it is pronounced, I am glad that using it worked!
