June 10th is World Doll Day!!

Did you know today is World Doll Day? You’re not the only one who didn’t know, but thanks to Dorothy, who reminded us, now we all can celebrate!

Every year on the second Saturday in June, “World Doll Day” celebrates the idea of a doll delivering a universal message of love and happiness. The day also encourages you to give someone a doll, especially to a child that does not have one.

I don’t actually have a doll to give to someone, but I hope to spend a little time surrounded by the dolls in my sewing room. Over the weekend, I just might change out those elastic waistbands to “regular” ones. :o)

My hubby had a doctor’s appointment in St. Louis, so I had no time for sewing today, but Linda’s pictures will be perfect for World Doll Day! I’m sure you’ll enjoy them!

Ice Cream Anyone?
Here are my 40’s girls at the ice cream stand. Anybody who has been collecting AG dolls will recognize thes outfits, and Betsy’ is from Tiny Clothesline on Etsy. I just got the Jeni I cream tote too, with the scented cream which is on top of the stand.

Molly’s Memorial Day Table
Here we go with hot dogs, corn on the cob and potato chips(real)! A jello salad, pink lemonade and sundaes finish it off! Yes, that’s a kitchen towel from Silver Dollar City in Branson that I picked up!

Cecile and Kirsten
Here they are out for a stroll. Forgot Cecile’s lacy parasol! Hope she doesn’t burn up in this heat! Kirsten stays cool in Addy’s Flower Picking Dress, and Cecile is in Marie Grace’s dress, the name eludes me!

Felicity!
Felicity is awaiting guests for tea! She does that a lot!😊. She will be serenading whoever shows up with her guitar, while wearing her birthday Pinner gown. I just got the new dolly that covers her table from a friend. Love the lacy look!

The Modern Girls!
You know how it is now with kids, they take lessons on just about everything! Well, my dolls do too! Ivy and little sister Emmy take Judo, or is it karate, together! Ivy is showing Emmy some moves! Scarlett is into ballet, and looks every inch the perfect little ballerina that she is!

Jeanne, this is an outfit I got a year or so ago for Emmy. Same star pattern, and kind of the same idea you are using now. I guess you would call the pants capris, they fit a bit in the middle of her leg. Wish I had a Ten Ping to get the outfit you are making! It would be a cute pair!

Well, it’s been a long day, so I’m heading to bed…
I’ll see you Monday
Blessings, Jeanne

I actually did know about World Doll Day–probably thru UFDC, when I was still a member. But thanks for the reminder!! I may post a few dolly pictures on FB to commemorate it!

Linda, thanks so much for sharing your dolly pictures! That ice cream cart is just too cute!! I’ll have some cookies and cream, please, unless you happen to have peppermint–then it’ll be one scoop of each!

All of your dolls and settings look just wonderful; my favorite, though, is Molly’s kitchen and all the goodies on her table! I, too, have repurposed things like kitchen towels and scarves for dolly use. My Kirsten, for instance, has a lovely plaid flannel shawl for cold winter days…which started out as a scarf from Eddie Bauer, years ago!! She loves it because it’s a pink/blue plaid (she loves pink and blue), and because it’s nice and warm.

Joy, so happy to hear another dolly caper is in the books!! Whew, that was a close one!!

Barbara, regarding spell check and its constantly correcting some words….did you know there is an “add to dictionary” function? You position your cursor anywhere on the word in question, and right click. A small box/menu will appear. Click on “add to dictionary”. It will not automatically “correct” it again!! I discovered that quite by accident one day, and thought it was a pretty neat trick to have in my arsenal of tools.

Thank you Charlotte! I too, love to repurpose little ordinary things for my dolls, and it is surprising how many things you can do that with! I have fun decorating the tables for the dolls, and especially love doing the 40’s things, because that’s what I remember the best! I surely don’t remember Felicity’s time!

That is a good suggestion for correcting the words that spell check misses! How would anyone know about that? I wish they would explain things better when any improvement comes along with computers or devices. I feel like I don’t have the time to fool around with things to see how they work!

Thank you Jeanne for showing my pictures!

Dear Jeanne, Happy World Doll Day to you and the Sofa Sisters. I will be off to the tea shortly and yes, I will send pictures.

If folks want to know more about World Doll Day, they can go to the UFDC YouTube Channel called Adventures In Dolls. There is a brief video about it.

I loved Linda’s photos. They are the perfect images for today’s celebration.

    1. Linda in St. Louis

Thank you, Dorothy! I’ll have to check out that YouTube site! Happy Doll Day to everyone!

    2. Linda in St. Louis

Here we go again! My comment I made to Dorothy is awaiting moderation, for whatever reason! I mentioned to Dorothy a thank you and I would check out that YouTube site!

  4. Happy World Doll Day to everyone! There was a group in Tucson that used to put on a special luncheon for this day and anyone attending was supposed to bring a doll to donate. That club, in turn, donated all the dolls to a charity that gave them to children who didn’t have dolls. I think that all went away during Covid, or at least I haven’t heard about it anymore. There is a wonderful website, Dollshow USA, that keeps everyone informed about doll club related events around the country if anyone would like to check it out.
Linda, I really enjoyed the pictures of your dolls! You do such a wonderful job in setting up the scenes! I would like to know more about that little Jeni’s tote bag, it is so cute!

    1. Linda in St. Louis

Thank you, Terri! That Jeni’s tote bag is now sold by American Girl. They have an ice cream truck, tables with umbrellas, a waffle cone maker and this tote bag, which is filled with little cartons of Jeni Ice Cream that you see in the picture.. Since I already had the ice cream cart, I didn’t need a whole lot more, but couldn’t resist the cute tote bag!

      1. Thanks, Linda! I love it all! There used to be an American Girl store in Scottsdale that I went to a couple of times, but it closed.

  5. Susette from Southern California

Linda’s scenes are wonderful! There are so many details with the different dolls, eras, activities and holidays pictured. Great tribute to World Doll Day! Thanks for sharing them.

Joy, we’re having the same months now of overcast days. Hardly ever see the sun.

Thanks, Jeanne, for always coming through with the blog ❤️!

    1. Joy in northern CA

Hi, Susette! Yes, been pretty dreary around here. However, we finally have had some late sun. So wonderful to see it. Since we finally bought an air conditioner, I’m sure the rest of the summer will be mild as well. 🙂

Stopping in to say “Happy World Doll Day”. I am a devoted follower but an infrequent poster here on Jeanne’s daily blog, starting each day with a cup of coffee and Jeanne.
We have settled into our new surroundings but are finding them “quieter” than anywhere we have lived. Rick uses his time teaching himself to play golf and I am happily refining my doll collection. A few more Little Darlings have moved in while most of the Ruby Red’s have moved on to homes where they will be loved.
I have whittled my American Girls to my favorites, Kirsten, Elizabeth, Nellie, Kit, and Blaire (my new stand in for Felicity).
I have tweaked my Madame Alexander’s to a very few 8 inch and found room for several Lissy dolls because they look great in the cabinet with the Little Darling’s.

Linda, as usual I am enchanted and inspired by your displays. Keep them coming!

    Joy, following all dolly capers.

Jeanne, I love every outfit you have created and am drooling over that Singer sewing machine. I “hung up” my thread when my mother’s Singer went to the estate sale.

Offering prayers for all that are brought to mind.

    Debbie

    1. Linda in St. Louis

Thank you Debbie for the nice words. As long as I don’t bore anyone with my pictures, I will send them to Jeanne. After all, who really sees them and appreciates dolls like we do?

    Hurray for World Doll Day!
Well, yesterday morning we decided to skip the walk and do errands. I had a special doll delivery expected, but couldn’t stay home all day awaiting the mail. We were just about to leave when other person saw a mailman on the porch. Not our regular guy. Other person doesn’t like to go out while the mail people are still there, why, I don’t know, so, it gave me seconds to get to the door first. I opened the door, and there was the box right by a planter. Have no idea why other person didn’t see the mail man with the box? Did the old kick with my foot as I pulled the mail from the box. Then, I ducked down low beneath the window so I wouldn’t be seen and pushed the giant box under the bench and pulled down the towel to camouflage. Good thing that I still haven’t removed the towels. Went back inside and gave other person the mail. Anyway, now the package was under the bench covered, sort of, on one side only. But, it was time to leave, so on the way out, I went over to the bench and feigned looking at a plant for a few seconds while OP locked the door. And then, as OP was headed down the steps, I pulled a towel across the front of the bench blocking the view from the street. No way could I bring my latest inside. Too risky. So, off we went to check out more Makita tools. After stopping at a local hardware store, where other person picked up a new cordless sander, for the deck, and a free charger. Then, by Target, so I could get the shampoo I needed. Back by Old Navy to see if they still had more tee shirts. Nope, all gone. Then, on to Costco, where we tried to get a new air conditioner off the shelf unsuccessfully. Finding a person helping someone else, I asked if they would call for someone to help the old people. He said they were swamped up front but he would be over to help us next. Looked at a great outdoor shade structure while waiting that I really would like. Then, the guy came, and by himself got the air conditioner off the high packed shelf and onto the flat for transportation. We figured that we wouldn’t be able to get it out of a cart. Paid for the AC and a couple of hot dogs and wheeled it to the car. Love my CRV as it is just the right height to load into. We were able to tip the AC up from the flat and into the back of the car. Yay. Came home. Dolly still on the porch under the bench. So glad to see that she was still there. Went inside to eat as other person was hungry. Finished up and then, back to the problem of how to get the AC into the house. Dolly still under the bench. The box was 70 pounds plus. I know I can lift 40, but this thing was pretty awkward. OP went down to the garage and while opening the door to get the dolly, I pulled my dolly out from under the bench and brought her inside. Went ahead and took her all the way to the family room. Yay, success! Then, back outside. Other person had the dolly out, but lowering the AC from the car to ground level would have been difficult. I’d probably drop it and throw out my back. So, we decided to lift it and carry it. Slid it mostly out of the back of the CRV, and got handholds underneath. No carrying holes, just a slippery box. Got it out of the car and onto the top of the brick retaining wall. Now what? Other person figured out that he would have to walk backwards. Not me. Well, at least until we were past the car. So, off we trudged. Down the walk and to the dreaded steps. Now, we were both able to go up one step at a time. I told other person to aim for the corner of the brick edged planter half way up those 13 steps, so we could set it down. Made it that far and got a break as my hands were cramping. Then, I ran up the rest of the steps and inside, slid the couch over and pulled the stuff other person had on the upholstered footstool off of it. Propped open the door, back down the steps, and we were ready to proceed. One step at a time, up we climbed. Then, sideways in the door and over to the stool where the AC remains. The box is so attractive. 🙂 I don’t think it is all that heavy, I say that now, but the packing adds a lot of extra weight. Definitely my maximum carrying ability. Very glad to have that done. Now for installation. We’ll get to that later. 🙂
But, my dolly arrived undetected by other person. It’s a good thing!
To unveil the mystery of the contents of my last two successful dolly capers, the latest new girls are Arana, and Xiong Xiong. I’m such a happy camper. 🙂

I’m out of breath just reading about the latest caper and AC delivery. We old folks do usually find a way. I’m thinking of asking a neighbor boy about coming every so often to just move boxes and bags up and down stairs.😉would give him a chance to earn $

    2. Great capers, Joy! You’re two for two. YAY! Arana’s an older one so I was surprised she’ll still available. She’ll perfectly dressed for summer.

  8. Joy in northern CA

Love Linda’s ice cream cart. The girls look so happy too. Genius to think of using a souvenir towel for a table cloth. Why don’t I ever think of things like that? I think Cecil’s parasol might have scared the adorable kitties. The girls look lovely in their dresses. Love the doily on Felicity’s beautiful table. Great idea. And, I think a Ten Ping would be a cute addition to Linda’s collection. She would be a very cute little cousin for Emmy or Betsy. 🙂 Thanks Linda for sharing your fun scenes. I love them all. And thanks to Jeanne, as well.

  9. Linda in St. Louis

Thank you Joy! Are you trying to sell me something that I really don’t need, like another doll?😊. Where would I even put her? Yes, she is tiny, but she would then need a wardrobe too! I only have so much space and money!!🤣

    1. Joy in northern CA

Ten Ping is old Ginny size. A good reason to order one as they have a special right now, and to pull out that sewing machine. Really easy to make a gathered skirt and one piece top with ribbon ties for summer. Just thinking. 🙂 The joints are really fun for posing too. 🙂

  10. 😍HAPPY WORLD DOLL DAY TO EVERY ONE OF YOU!😍
Linda you did a great job on these latest shots. You pics are so clear too!
What is a Pinner…is it the style of the dress or the name of who made it? Either way it is so sweet!
The pink dressy dress with the three layer skirt is my favorite of all of them today.
Hope everyone has some doll time today.❤️

    1. Linda in St. Louis

Kathie, the dress that Felicity is wearing in that picture is a Pinner dress, which means the top of the apron is supposed to be held up with little pins. I did have them on the dress previously, but since the top part of the apron just stays up on it’s own, and I was constantly pricking my fingers with the little straight pins, I just leave them off. It was a colonial thing, I guess!

I like Cecile’s dress too! One of my favorites for her.

      1. Linda in St. Louis

Kathie, I have to make a correction here about the Pinner gown. Actually that is Felicity’s Summer Gown and Pinner Apron. The apron is the one pinned to the gown, so the apron is called a Pinner, not the dress!

  11. Happy World Doll Day, everyone! How fun to see the next activities your girls are up to, Linda. A visit to the ice cream truck is certainly needed on a hot day. I will have rocky road, macaroon, or pistachio and a couple of tiny scoops of vanilla for the kitties to share. Molly’s picnic lunch is really cute and you can use real potato chips. I could have never done that because definitely the dogs and now probably at least one kitty would make off with them.
Cecile and Kirsten look cool and comfortable. That is Marie-Grace summer dress Cecile is wearing. If it had been in blue I would have hunted it down for my Shiloh (fka Marie-Grace). I need to find a similar pattern.
Felicity has a lovely tea table laid out. The doily looks quite elegant. Your modern girls are certainly keeping busy. Thank you for sharing.

  12. Linda in St. Louis

Thank you, Laura! Yes, that is Marie Grace’s Summer dress, but since I don’t have Marie Grace, I use her clothes for Cecile, who has quite the wardrobe!

Oh, I’m sure real food on the doll table would never work with pet’s around! I could have never done that when I had my kitty either!

The ice cream cart is a life saver on these hot summer days! It stays out while the dolls change to various summer outfits. Next up for them will probably be swim suits!

Thank you so much for your compliments!

  13. Cheryl Mahoney

Thank you, Jeanne, for highlighting World Doll Day! For those who are downsizing collections and have boxed or tagged “new” dolls and stuffies that they’d like to donate, please check with your local churches to see if they’re supporting women’s shelters, flood or wildfire relief efforts and want toy donations for families who have “lost it all”. One of my doll clubs does that and the shelter and church we donate to are very appreciative. We also donate baby dolls to an Alzheimer’s support group. Caring for a “baby” is often instinctive and some patients respond very positively to having a baby – less tendency to wander off and a demonstrated ability to “connect”, even when they’re no longer able to recognize or communicate with family members. Dolls have a very positive effect in many ways! Thank you, Jeanne, for promoting that!!
