How about a compromise on Noel’s new dress set?

Well, if this dress was on trial, and the jury was deliberating, we just might end up with a hung jury…

Some of you liked it the way it was, and some of you thought otherwise…

I was in the camp with liking it the way it was, but I’m not a potential buyer, so I usually try and listen to what the majority says… which was, it’s too colorful, the flowers are too big, take off the red flower, make the buttons all one color, do some of my silk ribbon flowers handiwork, and hem it shorter… I got the point, but it took me all day to decide what to do…

…but once I committed to changing it, now I’m in a new camp… the one where I did a compromise…

Let’s see what I did…

First, I changed the laces in Noel’s boots to a blue waxed thread… it makes the laces tie and grip in place when you tie them, and because they are waxed, you can bend them and make them stay the way you want them too, without them going haywire all over the place.

I also hemmed Noel’s dress about 1/2″ shorter so now you can see her pantalettes better… Good call on that one! :o)

I decided to try out a different wig for Noel too. This was a mohair wig I had on Holly, my other 10″ Boneka doll… I have had it in braids on Holly for probably 2 years, so it’s a little bit wavy, but I like it on Noel… I think she has such a fair complexion, she needed a little bit of color…

You can also see I made a sweet hair bow on a band for her… It has a magnetic clasp in back to make it easy to put on… just wrap it behind her neck and the ends pretty much click together on their own…

I left one of my lights off and I hope these pictures are better…the best picture to see the actual colors of the fabric is this one…

Okay… so what else did I do… I added ALL blue buttons on the one side… and took off the red and yellow flowers, and added a white and pink one. Using green embroidery floss, I added a few tiny leaves around the flowers.

I also made the flowers somewhat 3D, by scrunching up that pink one, so it sort of folds on top of itself.

So how about a few pictures of the whole set…

I found Noel snooping in the Dolly Toy box and I think she found something she liked! :o)

But you’ll have to wait another day to see it…

So does this work better for everyone?

I guess I’ll see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Much better, Jeanne! Although I still like someone’s suggestion of embroidered flowers, the fact that you took off the brighter flowers and added the softer-colored ones (and the pale blue buttons) really makes a difference. Scrunching that pink flower really adds a lot, too!!

In other news….I met our first great-grandchild today!! I went to Eric and Sarah’s apartment, and spent well over an hour. He was sleeping when I first got there, but I had a box of presents for him, sent by one of my college friends, so his mom and dad opened that, and then we chatted a bit until he stirred..and after he was changed, I got to hold Skyler and cuddle him and kiss him and sing to him!! Yes, I have pictures! I will send some to Jeanne in the next day or two. I’m heading off to bed now. (At 10 days old, he is now over 10 pounds! He was 9’14” when he was born!!)

I sure hope he learns to walk early. My sister’s son was a big baby and one day she was holding him while shopping. Obviously she was struggling a little because she was only going to “be a minute” so she left the stroller in her car. A woman came up to her and said why don’t you put that baby down and let him walk. She looked at the woman and said, because he’s only nine months old. The woman was shocked.

    2. How wonderful for you to get to hold Skyler and then sing to him. How precious is that, Charlotte!
I’m glad his mommy is doing well too.

Jeanne, YES, much better! Starting from the top, I really like the darker hair with this outfit! Noel’s hair just didn’t work with the colors in the dress. And the bow is too cute!
Oh, yes, the colors of the flowers make such a difference and the placement is much better. I like that they overlap and that the pink one has a 3-D effect. The blue buttons tie it all together to make it just right!

Much better with the length too, so that those cute pantalettes show!

Now this next thing, her shoes, is not earth shattering, but from that first picture, it looks like the right shoe is on the left foot and vice versa! I’m not sure if it is just the way it is photographed, but it sure looks like it! The blue laces are much better too! All in all, you did a compete turn-around on this set for the better!

Sounds like you had a wonderful day, Charlotte! New babies are such blessings, aren’t they? Looking forward to pictures!

Oh, exchanging the yellow/red flowers and multicolored buttons really helps to tie the jacket to the pretty fabric. The green embroidery is lovely as well. I wonder how a pair of white flats would look with the dress? or maybe add a pic of the boots with socks/tights without the pantaloons. Just seems a little busy down there. It is a sweet dress and Noel is such a cutie. Making the other outfit for Ten Ping is perfect timing with RRFF coming out with a little sister TP’s size. 🙂
Can’t wait to see the pics of Charlotte and the baby. Hope mom is taking it as easy as she can.
My Talia showed yesterday, and with other person out mowing the lawn, it made it impossible to pull off a caper. All I could do was watch in disbelief from the window as the UPS guy ran the package up the steps while other person caught a glimpse and followed behind to nab the package. Brought it inside and plunked it down on the kitchen counter. The look I received was classic! Ugh!

Joy. When this type of situation occurs….ie the plunking down of the box complete with “the look,” do not make eye contact, do not acknowledge the box, simply carry on with what you are doing. If a remark is required, something to the effect of, “You’ve known this leopard a very long time, and she isn’t going to be changing her spots at this time in life.” 😁
      Still, unpleasant. Ugh.

Great idea Sally. Mostly what I get is “and still they come”, said with a sigh and obvious annoyance.

    2. Hi Joy, just grin and think about all those you’ve managed to get in undetected. You should have kept a tally sheet. Love Sally’s idea of nonchalantly continuing what you were doing as if you didn’t even notice the package.

Sally, Barbara, and Laura, your ideas are fantastic. I definitely need some new sparks here. Wish I had read this before another little box showed from Sweden today. I had to sign for it. Tried to do a hide, but other person was standing in the window watching. 🙁

Chuckling here. Yesterday I was absolutely speechless when I saw the jacket so….I said nothing. Speechless is saying nothing, for sure! 😆 Today, I say brava, Jeanne, to you and then other sisters who said what needed to be said. What an improvement. This doll is what, 10”? Very sweet and the outfit really fun.

Love it! The new set of flannel flowers (maybe they’re not flannel but I like the way that sounds😍), are very pleasing.

  6. Nice changes Jeanne. Love the darker wig too.
Charlotte…so glad you got to hold that baby boy! Those pictures will be priceless!
    Have a good weekend everyone🤗☃️

I like the darker wig too. My Charlotte is a blonde but Mary-Ellen has darker hair so she would probably be the candidate for the dress because I do like it with the darker hair. I liked the initial look but I like the new one too. Told you I have eclectic tastes. Nearly everything works for me. The new blue laces are definite a change for the better and the shorter length shows the pantalettes well. The bow is really cute. I’m going to have to get me some magnetic clasps. They seem to work for everything.

  8. No comment form me yesterday either. I figured everyone else had said enough.
Now I will give my take. The first jacket was cute if paired with something more casual rather than a dress. 1980’s sweaters did have different colored buttons so that is what I saw especially if the jacket had been in primary tones.
The new jacket is much better for the dress and pantalettes. Personally, I think Noel should be wearing pink flats or MJs rather than boots. I also stand alone in preferring the blond wig.
I need to get some magnetic clasps as well they seem so great.

I saw the tiny RRFF Sara last night. really a cute idea, but with same Ten Ping’s body she has just too many articulation points for my liking. Good thing though.

  9. I think Noel’s outfit looks better with all the changes. The print of her dress is busy and the softer flowers look better in her jacket. I’m not sure unlike the red center on the flower though.
I too, like the blond wig on her.

I too find that red button jarring. Maybe a darker pink or white button? I like the blond wig as well. 🙂

I like the dark wig. I think the metallic clasp is nearly a miracle. I think I’d like to see this outfit with flats, though they might subtract some character, so I might be wrong about that. The new flowers are pretty, but have less energy than the old one, but they might go better with the headband, and everyone loves that. The new laces are winners.

The new baby sounds lovely. Not even a new package from Sweden is as nice as a new baby, but really, new babies turn into really cute kids — the nicest thing is watching them go from one nice stage to another. Back to the package — I hope Joy plans to share.
