A few dolls who are ready for Thanksgiving!

Hi everyone,
I hope you are getting the blog posts without any hiccups! Sarah said it might take a few days for all the glitches to work out… I hope yours straightens out Joy! I didn’t try leaving a comment yet, so I don’t know what happens when you do…

As promised, I told you Linda sent me some Thanksgiving pictures of her girls dressed up! I know you will enjoy seeing them, and that will give me time to figure out “what” or “who” is next! :o)

Let’s see what today holds… Linda is the “narrator!”

Here are Cecile and Kirsten in warm woolen outfits. Cecile is wearing Samantha’s dress and Kirsten is wearing Addy’s school outfit. It suits her pretty well. I don’t have either Samantha or Addy, but have most of their clothes to put on others.

Jeanne, here are Emmy, Ivy and Scarlett dressed in skirts and sweaters, and boots too! It’s cold here!

These are the 40’s Modern girls!

Jeanne, here is another picture of Felicity arriving for Thanksgiving dinner! She is wearing Elizabeth’s riding habit. I wanted all of them to wear wool outfits on this room.

This one is from several years ago, where I had the 40’s girls dressed for a thanksgiving play. Susan is the pilgrim, Molly an Indian and Ruthie a Colonial girl.

Thank you, Linda! Your girls look so beautiful and hungry! Now get them something to eat! :o)

Hope everyone enjoys them!
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Tonight (that is, around 10 Mon. night) I saw I had gotten Both of Monday’s blog emails (wordpress and gmail); the WP one still went to their sign-up page, but the other one went directly to the blog. Hooray!

Linda, thank you for sharing your pictures. I so enjoy them. I think my favorite of this batch is the one with the 40s modern girls. I especially love Betsy’s dress (knitted?), and I remember when that neckline was popular (even into the early 60s, if memory serves). I always thought it was so pretty and feminine, perfect for a party dress or even a wedding gown!

Thank you all for the compliments on my one-handed typing. If you could see it before editing, especially those first few days…🙄 It wasn’t pretty! I’m getting a little faster, thank goodness, but much prefer the “touch method”(with Two hands!) that I learned back in HS!

I had an appt. with my doctor today–my OWN, long-time doctor/ARNP, Laura, in her new clinic. (she “separated from her former one over 6 months ago, quite suddenly) It was her first day at work; I brought her a darling little orchid plant. There were hugs. And I cried. She’s been my doctor longer than anyone else (30 years).

She gave me a couple of gentle stretches I can do to help
keep my elbow from freezing up. It never felt so good to stretch my arm! In a month or so there will be some tests to find out why my dizzy spells (which caused this an at least a couple of previous falls) are getting worse. First my arm, though…

    1. Charlotte, glad you’re on the mend and seeing your original doctor again. The exercises will certainly help for sure. It sounds like you’re doing very well recovering. Yay!

      1. Thank you for the warm welcome back. Glad Charlotte is feeling better. The Christmas dress for Ten Ping is wonderful as are all the beautiful creations you come up with, Jeanne. Love Linda’s pictures, every one.

I agree that your typing has been great , I also agree that the two hand method we learned in high school is preferable.
How comforting to reconnect with your long time doctor! I am sure she was glad to see you too. How awful to suddenly lose a lifetime of patients.
Please let us know about the cause of the dizziness. I am having the same problem but mine started after my second cataract surgery. My eye doctor said it was my brain! Yes doc, the lens you chose messed up my brain. 🤦‍♀️
Have a wonderful holiday, hopefully not do too much.

    3. You sound so chipper Charlotte😉 I hope the arm heals quickly and that dizzy thing gets better too! Tell us what your Dr says about it…you are not the only one that has that problem😳
      Hugs
      Kathie

Per yesterday’s question. My serger is a Babylock Triumph. Its quietness totally amazed me.

Thank you, Jeanne, for showing my pictures! I hope this gives you some time to figure out what is next, and of course, Thanksgiving’s coming up, and you will probably be busy with a turkey, like a lot of us!

Charlotte, a big thank you for your kind words! Yes, Betsy’s dress is a knit from Russia, given to me by a dear friend. I love that neckline too! It goes to a deep “v” in the back. The knit itself is so delicate and precise, plus a pretty blue, which makes it one of my favorites for Betsy.

It was so nice to hear from Susette, and also to hear that so many are now receiving the blog! Good things happening!

    1. Linda, your Thanksgiving pictures of the variety of girls outfits snd scenes are so enjoyable. My favorite is the one with the girls in their sweater outfits, Scarlett’s outfit is my favorite.
      Thank you for sharing!

Thank you, Paula! I started out with the 40’s girls only, but have added to them with different timelines and it never gets boring for me! It makes life interesting learning about the different times.

    2. Barbara in SE Texas

I had just started buying from the Russian ladies who do such beautiful knitting of doll clothes when Etsy took them off their site. I’m still anxiously awaiting the day they come back.

    3. I wish you could have heard me when I saw that first picture of your girls in three wool dresses…it was an audible”OH!”… and then the next pictures are just as much gun. All your settings are just perfect and so much fun to look at and see all the detail! Thank you for sharing!

      1. Linda in St. Louis

Kathie, I am finding comments all over the place here, and it looks like I must have missed yours! Thank you for the kind words! I’m glad I was able to put a smile on your face with my pictures! I love the woolen dresses, and they are certainly the right things to be wearing now!

Well, unfortunately, I’m only getting one blog, the one that reverts to the WPress set up page. Some time ago, like Charlotte, I used to get two emails. Then, one disappeared and the one I have been getting always has to be clicked to go beyond to the first page to see the side bars etc. Only problem, the main page is now WP. So, today it was very easy to just type in Jeanne Marie and go directly to the blog after it came up on Google. That said, I’m sure there are others out there with the same problem who are no longer seeing the full blog with the side bars etc. and are missing out and can’t comment.
What a Happy Thanksgiving group that Linda has for us today. I love how she is able to mix and match outfits she has collected from different dolls to make the scenes. Cecile and Kirsten are a perfect pair. Love the background as well. The skirts, boots, and sweaters are so sweet and fit right in for a cool fall Turkey Day. Love the colors in the Modern Girls scene. Betsy is so brave trying to pet the turkey and her little knit is so pretty. Felicity is arriving in style for dinner which is so lovely presented with the adorable table setting. 🙂 The Thanksgiving play sure brings back memories. Fun. I so much enjoy seeing the details in Linda’s fab photos. Thanks Linda and Jeanne for sharing. 🙂
Our regular mail did not arrive until around 6:00 and in the dark yesterday. Poor post office people doing double shifts to get the mail out. Fortunately, we left on the light which was also nice for the DHL delivery person who actually rang the bell and made me sign for the delivery from China. Of course, other person was right there, but it was fine because it was a doll I had ordered for grand for Christmas. So, no made up story was necessary. 🙂
Tomorrow, I’ll be working on dishes for the feast. I saw a list of stores that will be closed for Thanksgiving, and it was very long. I think that is great. More will be able to celebrate with family and friends. 🙂

    1. Linda in St. Louis

What can I say to your glowing compliments, Joy? I do appreciate your kind words and love that I can share my dolls with others here on the blog! I do have my dolls share clothes, but within reason! Felicity is never going to wear a soccer uniform!😊

    2. Charlotte Trayer

Joy,you wrote about those “who are no longer seeing the full blog with the side bars etc. and are missing out and can’t comment.”

If that happens, just click on the title of the article you wish to read, and the entire thing will come up, including comments section.

Those pictures put me in the holiday spirit Linda. I love the way you let Kirsten borrow Addy’s warm woolen outfit. The two of them look so right for the season in their era. All your girl look spiffy in their holiday best but Felicity steals my heart in that pink riding outfit. Redheads do look good in pink. I zoomed in on your little Madame Alexander and Betsy McCall sharing the scene with Felicity. I love the pairing of the various sizes and makes of dolls.

I had the great pleasure of visiting with my dearest friend Jan and her extensive doll collection yesterday. She is so creative in her doll pairings around a theme. I suspect she worked on her display all night just for me. Jeanne, she never removes Stella’s “To Market” and she is on permanent display for every season. What a wonderful outfit you created!

Wishing Jeanne and everyone on the sofa a Happy Thanksgiving!

  5. Linda in St. Louis

Debbie, thank you for the compliments! Yes, I think that Kirsten looks good in Addy’s outfit, even though, after reading her store, her parents probably would not have been able to afford such a fancy outfit. She belongs to me now!😉

And O agree, Felicity looks good in pink! Those two little dolls are a few of the ones I keep out on display. They never get their clothes changed, just stand there looking pretty! My Betsy you see with the 40’s girls is a 14 inch one, while this one is a tiny Betsy.

  6. A big thank you to Linda and Jeanne for sharing the photos. They are so much fun and jog the memories. The blue sweater in the 40’s girls reminded me how it was all the rage in the late 60’s to have mohair sweaters and wrap your boyfriends ring with mohair yarn to make it fit. Was that a thing where some of you all lived?
I wish Jeanne would make historical outfits for the Ruby Red Friends, you know for a school play or themed dress up dance, any excuse really. Hint, Hint!

    1. Joy in northern CA

I do remember the mohair, but not on a ring given to me. The girls in junior high with boyfriends brushed that mohair with a toothbrush to make it the largest fluff I’ve ever seen. Memories. 🙂

  7. Well, I guess I spoke too soon. Today I received only the one blog in my Inbox and it sent me to the WordPress page. I had to type “Idream…” into Google to get here.
Linda, your photos are just lovely as usual. I also do the same of having clothing with the matching dolls. I have a great deal of Addy’s and Kirsten’s collections, but they belong to different dolls. of course I love the little kitties and pups that are joining in the fun.
Betsy looks so sweet in her dress with the bateau neckline. I’m almost certain that’s what it is called as I had a couple of dresses and a sweater with that neckline as a teen.
Felicity looks lovely and has a wonderful feast. Your take on the first Thanksgiving to too cute.
Thank you for sharing your sweet scenes.

    1. Linda in St. Louis

Laura, I always look forward to what you think of my scenes, since you are so historically correct! Why not have the kitties and pups join in the fun. If I have them? They always add “ something” to the scenes!
Yes, that is a bateau neckline, that I remember too. I also had a sweater with that same neckline when in college. Weren’t we a fashionable duo?😊

      1. Barbara in SE Texas

Bateau as in French for boat. I always loved clothes with a “boat neck” – bateau is so much classier – and I hadn’t thought of that in years.

    2. Joy in northern CA

Ah ha, another person receiving the blog that reverts to dreaded Word Press. Guess we both are fans of Google now. 🙂

  8. Li da in St. Louis

Dorothy L., thank you for the compliments! Yes, I too remember the mohair sweaters and wearing your boyfriend’s rings, but we just used plain string to get it to fit! Some girls melted wax under the ring too. Never did that, but I had Michael’s senior ring and wrapped it with string. (Was I that silly?😊) So yes, we did that in St. Louis! The memories!

I almost had a stressful situation this morning. I clicked on my previous day’s blog and it said I couldn’t connect. Oh no, not again. But then the notice came up that I was not connected. Easy fix and the blog came up. I am getting it in my e-mail now, but I usually click on the day before and refresh to read it and comment.

I always love Linda’s displays. I adore Samantha’s clothes and her dress looks absolutely lovely on Cecile. And Kirsten looks precious in Addy’s school dress. Emmy, Ivy and Scarlett look so cute and warm and cozy in their skirts and sweaters. My favorite winter wear when I was in school and girls could not wear slacks to school. We could wear tights under our skirts and that did keep our legs warmer. The modern 40’s girls look lovely and ready for a festive Thanksgiving holiday dinner. After Betsy’s dress was mentioned, I remembered I could make the pictures larger and get a really good look at it. Absolutely lovely and it looks so good on her. I really wish I had learned how to knit. I see so many beautiful patterns for knit doll sweaters, etc., but I think knitting something that small would not be the best place to start learning. Felicity looks lovely in her beautiful riding outfit and I’m sure got many compliments as she arrived for Thanksgiving dinner. Who are the dolls on the shelf behind the perfectly set table? And is that a Shirley Temple behind Cecile? What size is she? I always love the historical themed Thanksgiving display with the girls dressed in their period costumes. And Susan, Molly and Ruthie are doing a fine job of presentation.

Thanks so much Linda for sharing your pictures and thanks Jeanne for putting them on your blog so we all could see them. Very much appreciated.

Barbara, :, concerning those dolls by Felicity, the one in the purple dress is , Madame Alexander “Meg” from the Little Women Collection. I am the oldest of 4 girls, and one Christmas we each got a corresponding sister from the Little Women story. Meg was the oldest, so I got that one. Next to her is Tiny Betsy, but she stays in that outfit. The one you usually see is 14 inch Betsy. Tiny Betsy is too tiny for me to change her clothes! I do have more Madame Alexander dolls on those shelves, plus a Snow Baby collection, which is finished now, since I ran out of space for more andI refuse to stuff everything on the shelves or store them in boxes. What you see is what I have!

Yes, that is an Ashton Drake Shirley Temple you see by Cecile. She was given
to me by a friend. I really don’t think she looks like Shirley, but her hairdo sure does! She is wearing one of the dresses she wore in one of her movies,

Thank you very much for the compliments!

    1. Barbara in SE Texas

I knew your Shirley looked familiar. I actually have her but she always seemed so fragile I kind of keep her in a special place and don’t change her clothes. Please don’t tell her I forgot about her. She already feels neglected since I don’t sew for her. My other Shirley is an 8″ doll that doesn’t look like Shirley either but she’s my Ginny’s BFF and they can wear the same clothes so she gets more quality time.

Hi, Linda. I am getting on late today, but I wanted to catch your photos today and comment. As ever, your young ladies are ready for the occasion.
Cecile and Kirsten look awesome on those dresses, and besides the animals and the bird in cage, I see the old victrola/gramophone and little rag dolls. You DO have the accessories and furniture. FUN.
The 40’s girls are super, right down to the pearl necklaces.
I need to stop because my iPad and replacement new one are giving me fodder for crankiness. Soon all will be straightened out. But the pictures just warm our heats. Thank you and Jeanne. Tell the girls they have done a great job posing, and I am sure the pageant will be a resounding success. 👏🤗🥰

    1. Linda in St. Louis

Sally, thank you for the compliments! Yes, I always make sure my dolls have the right accessories for their outfits, and decided on pearl necklaces and bracelets.

While I don’t buy every accessory that is available for the dolls, I do get the ones that I feel are the best representatives of their times. With the exception of Kirsten, they all have a piece of their furniture for them to stand by, plus small things that go with the settings I have. Poor Kirsten is my last doll and sadly, there is no more room for any of her furniture. She manages with Cecile though!
