My Mother’s Day Slide Show for you…

REMINDER: The dress set for the Ruby Red Fashion Friends, “Touch of Teal”, ends this evening (Sat) on Ebay, and if you’d like to take a peek to see if your girl(s) need it, you can click on the picture at the right side bar, or click HERE. There are over 400 hits on this set and 35 watchers so far… :o)

I took my last meal over to Bithar and now I’m able to get back to my sewing… well, not quite as my sewing room is just as messy as it was the last time I showed you. Maybe a little more, as I’ve been digging through things trying to pull out all the things I want to sell.
I’ll be working in there Saturday and hopefully making a dent in things.

I decided for Mother’s Day, instead of sending you a digital bouquet or make up a sappy poem, I’d do a slide show using pictures of doll outfits I’ve made over the years. Someone was talking to me at church Sunday and I realized this coming August, when I turn 66, I will have been sewing for 60 years! Good Grief! Let’s start with that Barbie dress I made by cutting up my pajamas… I have a list of all my dolls on a paper and I’ll pick every fifth doll and find an outfit that I would have made her if she had been my little girl. :o) I’ll try to pick things that I haven’t shown very often.

Here is that Barbie dress I was talking about. I think I did a few Troll clothes before this but this was my “favorite” and I thought at the time it was absolutely wonderful! I still have it, and let me tell you, It’s NOT! But it was my start.

If you want to see the post I wrote about it and a few of my other “works of art” you can see them here.

Blue Barbie Dress

Okay, now every 5th doll on my list…

First up is Song, by Helen Kish. She is a 14″ Kish Chrysalis dolls, articulated and very sweet.

Hope is a 17″ Kaye Wiggs doll. She is similar to my Nyssa doll, but was created in a limited edition and the profits went to help young girls being used in trafficking. She was made to look like an Australian Aboriginal.

American Girl Saige is next on my list. She was my “western girl” and had the most glorious long auburn hair. I sold her to my niece’s little girl, Hannah.

Tulah was an 8″ Helen Kish doll I owned for a while. She was another red head and this was a fun set for her…

Oooo…this one will be hard… American Girl Rebecca has been a very versatile doll for me, modeling everything from the 1900’s to Civil War to Regency.

Next is Cecile, an American Girl doll who was from the 1850’s and living in New Orleans.

I have to show you the details on these sleeves…

Next is Nahji, a Heart for Heart doll and very sweet!

Navi, my tiniest little doll, (6″) (except now she has a friend, Bailey Twinkle) by My Meadow dolls.

…and last up is Sara, my 14.5″ Ruby Red Fashion Friends doll. She (and her sisters) have truly been a joy to sew for… This was her Easter dress last year!

Well, that’s it… Happy (early) Mother’s Day to all the mom’s out there and those who aren’t moms… Have a happy day anyway… because you ARE a mom to someone! :o)

See you Monday,
Blessings, Jeanne

Since I’ve been following your blog for quite some time, I thought maybe I’d seen all your dolls/outfits, but either I haven’t, or I had forgotten (always a possibility as time goes along!). I really like Song and her outfit, and Hope, too, and I don’t recall seeing either of them before (or it’s been long enough ago that, as I said, I’ve forgotten. Such fun to look back at all the lovely outfits you’ve made!!

Speaking of which, I see that Touch of Teal has four bids already! And I am wondering if there might be a bidding war on it. Someone will surely be delighted to have this beautiful ensemble!

Barbara, it would be nice if you could send a little of your heat up our way! We are back down in the lower 50s and a rain pattern again, and looks like it’s with us for a while. About the only thing you can really count on in the Seattle area is rain–if it didn’t rain yesterday, and it’s not raining now, just wait…it’ll probably rain tomorrow (or all three days, or more…!).

Happy Mother’s Day to the sofa sisters. I’ll be taking flowers to the cemetery either tomorrow or Sunday. But I do send Mother’s Day cards to my two former daughters-in-law, and thank them for being such good moms to our grandchildren!

Happy Mother’s Day to All! Love getting up every morning and checking in with you All! I don’t write very often but that doesn’t mean how much I truly love it! Then I go on to Wordle and that may take a bit, but good for this old brain. Get it in 4 most of the time! We have a big day tomorrow celebrating a surprise Birthday as well! Have a great day!

Kind of an interesting morning. I was able to purchase the latest RRFF girl Venus at RubyRedToys. She’s a bohemian girl and wears a lovely dress. She won’t be arriving until sometime in June, but I’m excited.
Nice seeing Jeanne’s flash from the past photos. Sara’s dress is my favorite. Love that dress.
We’re heading down to see the grands tomorrow, but like Charlotte, it isn’t going to be an outdoor type of day.
So, wondering what the next outfit might be? Can’t wait to see. 🙂

Happy Mother’s Day to all the Sofa Mothers (that didn’t work too well — to all the Sofa Sisters who are mothers).

This is our first “warm when I got up” day. Let’s see if I can start the direct-sow part of the garden. Last year I did my best — gardening while using a walker is not easy. This year I can walk (with no grace whatsoever) without the walker, which will make gardening easier. I do have help, but perhaps next year I’ll need less.

Horrible news — my 6 year old great niece was trying to figure out who was the oldest person she knows. Guess what — I’m it. My sister is grateful that I didn’t die 2 1/2 years ago, when my doctors thought I would, because if I had, SHE would be Anna’s oldest person.

By the way, Nahji’s dress in the slideshow belongs to Anna. Her grandmother has kept it for her until she was old enough to take care of it. She’ll probably get it, and her Wellie Wisher, Willa, this summer when she comes to visit. I may be old, but I give good presents.

    1. Always love seeing the previous Jeanne dresses!
Happy Mother’s Day to you moms!!

  5. I must get busy planting today…it has been cold until now and today is to be lovely and next week in the 90s. No spring for us this year…just cold to summer🥴 Hope the little plants will survive the drastic temp changes😳
Loved the dresses you chose…such a variety and oh my…the one Cecile is wearing! The piping and style and gathers and all the detail are fantastic. That has to be a top 10. Sara’s is of course a treasure too.
Enjoy your weekend and HAPPY MOTHERS DAY to all the sofa sisters.🥰

Happy Mother’s Day to all the sofa sisters!
Wow, Cecile’s dress is stunning. I love absolutely everything about it!

Dear Jeanne, I love this walk down Fashion Memory Lane! I do not recognize some of the outfits so this is a real treat. My favorites are worn by Navi and Nahji.

Happy Mothers Day to all you and all of the amazing Sofa Sisters! What an incredible group of women you have assembled.

Dorothy, I do seem to have a lot of dolls that were sculpted by Dianna. My first, before I even knew who she was, were my Heartstring dolls. I was looking for clothes for my Tiny Betsy and came upon Jo Flitton’s site and fell in love with the little dolls that Dianna did the sculpt especially for her. Now I have a Little Charming named Jade also a Dianna sculpt. I’m a bit disappointed that the Little Charming site is not taking off as promised but the doll I bought is lovely. I also have the RRFF Dianna sculpts and my three Little Darlings and one on the way.

Well, Jeanne, late to the party, but better late than never! I had a lovely brunch this morning with my daughter, celebrating Mother’s Day early, so she can have her own Mother’s Day tomorrow. It worked out perfectly, beautiful day here, blue skies, not a cloud in sight, warm and sunny! For once!!!!

I do remember all of those dresses, since I have been reading the blog from day one on. I love Saige’s dress! I also love Song’s outfit, and Cecile’s is stunning! My Emmy would have loved that dress you made for Nahji, even Betsy too! Just darling! Marilyn’s great niece will be thrilled!

It’s working in the flowers for me today, while I can. It’s funny, I work for 15 minutes, then sit down and rest for 20-25 minutes! I don’t recall having to rest so often in my younger days, but it is a fact of life now!

Happy Mother’s Day to all of you, mothers of children or dolls!

Linda, I loved your comment yesterday on what to do with my wilderness background. Now I have several ideas in mind thanks to you. I have several 18″ doll backgrounds and I agree that they are harder to use with the bigger dolls. I prefer using them with my 14″ or smaller dolls. It allows for more dolly people to participate in a scene.

I love your fashion shows. They are usually mostly new for me. I love the outfit you did for Song, and my Nahji would have loved that beautiful purple dress. Cecile’s dress blew me away. I thought it was stunning to begin with but the sleeve treatment definitely takes it over the top. Saige’s outfit is adorable, Tulah looks precious and Rebecca looks so cute in her outfit. That doll has the sweetest face. The dress on your 17″ Kaye Wiggs doll is so pretty and what a good cause she was created for. Navi is her cuter than cute usual self and Sara looks lovely in her beautiful floral dress. I have one of your dresses using that fabric in pink.

Hope all my Sofa Sisters have a lovely Mother’s Day tomorrow. Sean’s family and son Jason will be joining David and myself at our usual Hibachi restaurant. Dionne is our social secretary and she handles locating restaurants and making reservations. For years we went to Benihana but it was getting expensive. Dionne found us a hibachi restaurant named Atami and we’ve been going their for Mother’s and Father’s Day now for a few years. It is not only less expensive, which Sean appreciates because of the size of his family, but it is closer to our church and home.

Loved the show Jeanne. I hadn’t seen all of the dresses only some but I have to agree with others that Cecile’s was wonderful

Sam’s husband never encouraged or helped the children when they were little to celebrate Mother’s Day. ‘You’re not my mother’ was his usual response, so when they were old enough they had no concept of what usually happens. I suggested to the two girls they might like to get up and make Mum her breakfast. The only one interested was the 11 yr old so she and I did it together. Jono’s contribution was his orange juice, not that he knows it yet! I feel that I have had my time of being pampered on Mother’s Day and unfortunately Sam hasn’t so I think it was only fair that she has her turn.

Sam hasn’t been well all week and was in contact with a friend on Sunday evening who tested positive on Tuesday. She has tested negative 6 times so far so I think we have escaped it yet again. She was going to pay for my lunch after Church but she isn’t going this morning. However my workroom is in a much worse state than yours Jeanne and she has been helping me clean and sort it. Much more helpful than breakfast in bed! I have fabric everywhere, unfortunately mainly scraps. People on line keep coming up with ways to use even the smallest of scraps and I really can’t bear to throw away into landfill something that can be reused. The problem is getting round to reusing them!!!! To do that you need to have them in some sort of order. We have pulled out all the fabric we can find ready to be sorted. I keep thinking we have found it all till Sam pulls out another box or bag! It is compounded by the weather which is only 3 weeks from the start of winter. We have been very lucky so far, no frost and lots of lovely warm days. However it is still quite cold at night and the caravan Jono is sleeping in has no insulation. The sleepouts won’t be ready to sleep in till middle to end of July so we have to find an alternative. Unfortunately that means my work room behind the garage! Because I did a lot of cake decorating half of the space is a kitchen and that area is where he will have to go. Hopefully no one will want a wedding cake in the next two months. Sam has gutted it and cleaned it so once we have at least made room in the sewing half we will try to put a screen or curtain up dividing the space. He’s not particularly happy about it, he is a night owl and sleeps most of the day and I refuse to not sew for the next 2 months! Especially as we have an exhibition coming up in July and I have things I want to make for it. I see testing times ahead!

    Happy Mother’s day everyone
