Ten Ping in her new silver dress and pink hat…

Since so many of you liked that simple little silver dress on Ten Ping, I decided to give it a second try and see how I could make it a little more acceptable.

I cut it out like the first one, cut the 2 little holes for her arms, and gathered up the front neckline. Because the fabric doesnt fray, I put some Fray Check around the armholes, to keep them just the way I cut them out. The back was folded under and 2 sets of snaps were sewn on… since the back of the dress was more on the bias when folded under, the pointed ends had to be cut off.

I stitched a few little glass seed beads to the front gathers to make it a little dressier.

She’s pretty sweet looking, isnt she?

Here are a few more of her… we had a nice little photo session…

But wait, I finished a little pink furry hat to go with her coat. It has an elastic strap under her chin and I sewed a white satin bow with the tails dangling down in the middle. I would like to find 2 little white pom poms to go on the ends of the ribbons.

She’s still waiting on her pink coat…actually I’m thinking about taking the white stand collar off and replacing it with just the pink fur. I think it would lay better around her neck.

(This was the start of her pink furry coat, in case you missed it.)

Well, I better get to bed…
See you Monday and have a WONDERFULLY WARM WEEKEND!
Blessings, Jeanne

Jeanne, I usually wait for Charlotte to comment first, and maybe she is doing that now, but oh my goodness, how CUTE that little silver dress and pink furry hat are on Ten Ping! If only that came in Betsy’s size! She reminds me of a little disco dancer in that glittery dress! Everything seems to “click” together in the right way!

I think you are right about taking off the white collar of the coat. It seems too distracting to me, and just looks awkward to me somehow. A simple pink collar will be much better, and the idea of pompoms at the end of the ribbons is a cute one!

As for the snow, we have yet to get mail or have the trash picked up due to the streets not cleared off that well. Michael and I got out yesterday to do the driveway, and he lasted longer than I did, but my excuse was my gloves weren’t working out too well, and my fingers were freezing up. If you have the right outerwear, it is comfortable, unless there is no wind!! Because of the freezing rain we had before the snow, you can’t get to the pavement yet when you shovel. Hopefully the sun will be out again, if we can just shake this horrible cold wave coming from Canada! It’s 10 degrees now, brrrr!

Here I am, Linda! Running a bit behind tonight….

Jeanne, that little dress turned out so cute! I hope you made a pattern for it, so you can replicate it another time in a different knit fabric, too!

I love her little hat, and pompoms would be fun, if you can find the right size–maybe Hobby Lobby? I think the tails of the ribbon are a bit too long for her, though. That’s an easy fix, however.

Yes, I agree with Linda, about the white collar. It’s just not “right” with the pink.

Barbara, I do use my thimble when I’m smocking, even though it’s pretty easy to push that needle thru the fabric. And a thimble can be used in different ways, depending on how/what you are sewing or stitching. For some things, I use the tip of the thimble, and sometimes it works better to push from the side of it.

The little dress is darling. The only thing I would change would be to adjust the pattern to have the center line of the dress to be on the grain line of the fabric, if I’m phrasing that correctly in seamstress terms. Yes to changing the collar. Maybe no collar at all and the fabric of the dress will show at the neckline. Looks like another stay at home and sew day there.

Sorry. The center is straight. It’s just shifted a little when she squirmed on her chair. Ha, ha!

Dear Jeanne, I love the dress. I love its simplicity.

It’s sunny here but cold. I am off to meet friends for tea.

I wonder if you or any of the Sofa Sisters ever watched the series Sanditon on PBS in 2019? It’s returning this year! It’s an adaptation of one of Jane Austen’s unfinished books. I really enjoyed the series and I am looking forward to Part 2.

I think that a pattern should be made for Ten’s dress, but one with facings for the armholes that could be used for a cute summer dress as well as a dancing shift. It’s cute. I’d love the pattern should your Etsy store ever open again.
I thought that white material sticking up at the collar was part of Ten’s undies. Had no idea it belonged to the coat, so yes, a facing with nothing sticking up would be nice on the coat. It’s pretty puffy fabric for petite Ten, but with the cold weather, I’m sure she appreciates it. I think the white ribbon detracts from the cute hat. Maybe a matching shade of pink? or even black. Definitely would like to see some snow pictures of Ten in her new coat. Maybe on a sled?
Hope everyone can dig out if you have had snow. Keep warm.

Back to the hat, maybe use cording to replace the ribbon. It could be tied to the right or left with a smaller bow. I think I’d lop off the long ties and make them just long enough to look nice with the pompoms. With them that long, she might get them caught in a door or something. 🙂

Yes the dress is a big design hit. For myself, er Ishara I mean, little silver beads would be our pick, no white ribbon, maybe pastel pink, or brown, or black, and Jeanne made pink fur pom poms. I also thought the white on the coat picture was a facing or something sticking up. So no collar is our vote, the better to see those sweet cheeks.
    Stay warm all.

  7. The thermometer is reading almost 40 this morning….WHOOPIE! The whole next week is supposed to be in the 40-50 range. Kind of weird but I’ll take it😉
Ten PNG is ready for sub zero weather in her whole darling outfit. I remember having a hat that looks like that as a girl….cute the way it frames her face. Maybe an elastic that just slips under the chin? It wouldn’t show. Yes to removing the collar…no collar is fine since the fur comes right to her neck. Good luck with this auction……dress, coat, hat, shoes, tights…..how perfect!

  8. I saw your comment to me about birds, Jeanne, and yes, we have all those as well, but I was naming just those I saw at the moment. Not as many neighbors feed them as use to, so we who do get a wonderful show. 🙂

The little dress is so cute and simple and the warm furry coat is certainly needed, at least here anyway. I matching pink collar to the coat is my vote as well and little pom poms would be adorable.

The dress is great so simple and quick, I love it. I wasn’t sure what the white on the top of the coat was. I didn’t realise it was the collar. Like others I’m not keen. I’m sure Ten ping can’t wait till she get’s to wear the whole outfit. Mind you there will be “tears before bedtime” as my mother used to say, when Ten realises she doesn’t get to keep it lol.

I checked out the link to the boot making video you sent yesterday. fascinating. I must try and get some tools and have a go. It needs a much sharper knife than I have though. I watched the two that followed as well and found them just as interesting.

The little silver dress just keeps getting better and better. Love the embellishment. And the pink hat is precious. Ten Ping has such an adorable face and the hat just makes it more so. I’m thinking pink ribbon instead of white as some others have said. I have a bag of pom poms of all sizes and colors and if you could find a package like it I think you would have several choices when you wanted to do something with pom poms. I also have pom pom makers. They are several sizes but nothing really small enough for Ten Ping. I plan on using some of the white pom poms as snowballs when I do my winter sports photo shoot. I like the idea of a pink collar on the coat.

The weather here today belongs in a Chamber of Commerce ad campaign. Still in the 30s but sunny and with a gorgeous, cloudless blue sky. After the past few days of nothing but endless clouds and chilling wind it’s very much appreciated.

Love the silver dress. I have read that the poet Elinor Wylie sometimes wore a silver dress for her readings — since that was in the 20s, it might have been similar, but larger.

Joy mentioned Ten Ping getting her pom-poms caught in a door and I pictured her trying to go through a human sized door. Poor tiny Ten Ping. But she’s a lucky girl in all that silver and that soft pink coat.
