How much are those stockings in the window???

Okay, now go back and sing it to the tune of “How much is that doggie in the window?”

Now add this… “The ones with the shimmery shine!”

How much are those stockings in the window?

I do hope a pair can be mine!

I have been working on some holiday Thigh Highs for some of my (your) dolls. I hope you’ll take a peek at what I have for sale… So far I’ve only done them for the Little Darlings and the Ruby Red Fashion Friends, but I hope to do more for the other dolls I have.

Some how in my mind I pictured it a little differently… I should have done more “thinking” about my “shop” and maybe put up a sign that said “Jeanne’s Boutique” or something like that, but it is what it is…

I had a dream one night about putting my straw bonnets in the same kind of setting… behind the panes of my window on little hat forms and it looked better in my dream then too… *sigh*

Well, I’ll just jump right in here and make the best of things…

First of all, I am better… not quite 100%, but on my way… thanks for thinking of me…

Second, once I realized my girls would be showing off their new thigh highs, I knew I had to have something to cover up their “nakedness!” So I quickly cut pieces from the toes of my little girls tights to make quick undies and strips of stretch elastic for their little bralettes… So now that they are “semi-presentable” let’s take a closer look at them.

The thing I was hoping for the most was you being able to see how shimmery my fabrics are. I concentrated this time on the gold, silver, and a few pink thigh highs. (the pink ones aren’t shimmery)

I made them to fit the Little Darlings and the Ruby Red Fashion Friends dolls. Ten Ping also got a pair from a little silver scrap I had.

They are easy to get on the dolls and slide up nicely…The silver and gold thigh highs are made from the fabric like dance leotards are made from… very thin and have a 4 way stretch.

The pink cable knit thigh highs are a bit thicker but still not what I would call bulky. There are 2 pair that are cable and 2 pair plain.

My girls revolted and said they were sick of trying on every single pair of the thigh highs…

Now… if anyone would like a pair of them, let me know the color you like and for what doll, and I’ll see if I have it. (The Ruby Red Fashion Friends and the Little Darlings CAN wear some of them interchangeably…)

They are $9.00 a pair… for the Little Darlings or the Ruby Red Fashion Friends… and Ten Pings will be $5.00.

Thanks everyone,
Blessings, Jeanne

I’m so glad you are feeling well enough to make some thigh-highs, Jeanne! They are all lovely!

I am thinking seriously about ordering Freida. I just love her–every time I look at her picture, I think maybe I need her….and, of course, my birthday is only a little over a month away….and it’s been a heck of a fall this year!

Ron has his angiogram next Wed. He has to isolate now, so he’s been scurrying, trying to get his Christmas shopping done (he buys for me, I do everything else! LOL), but his heart is so bad, he doesn’t have much energy or stamina any more. I found out today that he’d been to the mall, and that means a fair amount of walking, even if he only goes to one particular store! He was wiped out tonight.

I’m not quite done with shopping. Then it’s on to cards and our Christmas letter. I consider it counts as long as I get them out by Epiphany (Jan. 6)!! LOL

I can’t count how many times I have reminded people Christmas doesn’t end on Christmas Day but on Epiphany to justify my late start getting my Christmas cards and letter out. I started my letter two weeks ago and it still is only half finished.

I love the display idea. Maybe putting some little lights on the floor behind the screen would light it up a bit more? Hats too would be sweet.
    Glad you’re better. Was worried.
Off to the dentist this morning. 🙂

I’m glad you are better. It’s the wrong season to be sick — not that there are any right ones.

Ten Ping’s stockings are definitely the cutest. Is it time for more petticoats too? I just put one of yours under the plaid skirt of the dress with the velvet bodice, and Stacy (#28) looks beautiful in it. Sometimes a dress looks good on everyone but REALLY good on one doll. This time Stacy is the lucky one. The yoke on your petticoats makes all the difference.

So glad you are feeling better Jeanne. Being under the weather can sure slow you down and it’s particularly noticeable at this time of year when there are so many things to do that aren’t on our normal to-do list. It’s good you felt well enough to so some sewing and make the pretty thigh highs.

I have incredible intentions but with so many extra demands on me lately I can’t seem to fulfill them all. Mostly I seem to start reading and responding to the blog, get distracted and never get back to it. So once again I’m a day late and a dollar short but I wanted to tell Laura that her German Christmas items were wonderful and how nice for most of them to come down through the family. I think I’m the last of my family to really appreciate things like that but was never there when they were being distributed so I have no idea where things ended up.

We’ve been more fortunate on David’s side of the family as his mother was great about not only keeping things to hand them down but labeling them as to what they are and who they previously belonged to. And she made sure they got where she wanted them to go years before she passed away because she knew once she passed her daughter would sell everything before we could get there. She gave us the spinet piano that had belonged to her mother (manufactured in 1946) long ago because she knew we wouldn’t sell it. Sure enough shortly before she passed away my sister-in-law was interrogating her as to what happened to the piano. My mother-in-law said she honestly didn’t know what happened to it. She knew, but she was living with my sister-in-law at the time and the woman is a nasty piece of work so playing dumb was the better way to go. But isn’t it sad that she had to do that because of lack of trust.

David has passed his first week after surgery. At the time of the knee replacement on his left knee the doctor manipulated his right knee to get more mobility. Problem is that now David feels he can’t trust either knee. But there is improvement, and he went through his exercises at PT yesterday quickly. Next week they wlll be adding other things to the regimen. We’re taking it day by day.

    1. Thank you so much, Barbara! I’m glad you enjoyed them. I know what you mean about some special things just being sold by family members. My great aunt gave certain things to us years before she died so that her youngest brother wouldn’t sell her treasures. My grandfather (her younger brother) was willed things knowing they would end up with his daughter and me. 🙂 Among the things are a Dresden Blue Onion Coffee service and an Austrian cocoa set. We also have some of her furniture. I’m sure you treasure the spinet piano.
I’m happy to learn David is doing well, but I’m sure you are being run ragged,so take time for yourself

  5. First, I want to thank Debbie and Ingrid for their kind comments on my Christmas decor and doll scenes yesterday.
I’m so glad you’re feeling much better, Jeanne. Yes, you were correct, the little gingerbread boy is a kitty toy that I borrowed briefly for my photo.
Those thigh highs are lovely. i especially like the shimmery gold ones, so perfect for Christmas time. they look so cute hung up in the window for sale.

    Hi, everyone,

Jeanne, great idea to do stockings and hats for your shop. Thigh highs are so much better than tights. Also like Marilyn’s suggestion to keep some slips in there. I wholly agree about the advantage of the yoke on them. How about some underpants, too? So, does this mean your Etsy store is back up or cleared up?

Joy had a good idea of a little string of lights to pu at the base of that window display.

Debbie, good to hear about Samantha and her move, because I was really unimpressed that she did not respond to my emails and both phone number message boxes were full. Perhaps she was in the throes of moving. But you are so right….all delivery people need to be cut a lot of slack especially this season, this year. It’s pretty ugly out there for them all and no fault of their making.

Charlotte, bless your hubby’s sweet heart. My goodness, he sounds like a treasure. Hope the angio goes well.

Barbara, you and David are going through a strenuous process of double healing here in a stressful time of year. Both you and Charlotte need to find a little “you” time and give yourselves a break this year. Lower your expectations for yourself. We women get these bees in our bonnets that we have to do it all, create a perfect holiday or else we are letting others down. It has taken me quite awhile to get to this point myself but I am loving the holidays more because I am not stressed. And as far as I know, nobody in my circle has seemed “let down “!

Been making batches and batches of Chex mix today and hubby has baked 48 dozen cookies for a community Christmas project that we have been involved with for the past several years. It’s fun, but a little heart breaking to know how many kids have never had a homemade cookie. 😔

Have a wonderful day. Keep improving, Jeanne.
    ❤️

Oh how I wish it were only the holidays overwhelming me. I’ve cut way back on that over the years. I do the tree and the village as much for me as anyone else. Shopping is online but I still do have to do the wrapping. But I handle so much of the admin stuff around here and the end of the year is always a pain because for one thing our first half of the Kansas property taxes are due 12/20. Right before Christmas. Seems wrong to me. Forget that date and the whole year is due. I’ve got the bills sitting on my desk waiting for a check for our milo to clear the bank. Then we got a form to renew our Homestead and Over 65 local tax exemption because some changes were made due to proposals passing in the last election. They were a good thing but to catch all the new people qualifying we all had to redo. Seems to me they should have the info they are looking for but the form needs to be in by 12/31 and I have to look up some of the answers. Then there is paperwork for the mobile home park that has to be turned in before the end of the year and also the business license renewal. With all this and David’s surgery I actually forgot to pay the water bills on the due date this month. There are four of them. But it worked out okay because they were due on a Friday so I got them in the night depository before Monday morning and explained why I did not make it in before closing Friday. I just keep telling myself in a few weeks I can make it back into my sewing room again to just enjoy myself. My fortune cookie the other day said “Your hidden creative talents will soon be revealed”. A bit ominous but it is something to look forward to.

        Dear Barbara,
Yikes! This is truly a horror show. I wish you all the best, and try to get enough sleep. Yes, when all this is behind you, that sewing room beckons.
        Sending a hug…wish I could send a fairy godmother.
        ❤️

The thigh highs are cute, Jeanne, and that is a fun way to show them off! I remember when I suggested that you make pantelettes in your Etsy shop, when George was laid up for a time, and Cecile had just came out, so pantelettes were the “thing” back then. Those little items are always needed for the dolls, and lots of times don’t come with the outfits.

I just finished a day of cookie baking, but am not yet done. I just wanted to get done today what I had planned, so have not been on my iPad much at all. Always some kind of disaster happens in the kitchen when I am stuck in there baking. Today a bowl of sugar that I was rolling cookies in fell upside down on the floor, and a few cookies slid off the cookie sheet and fell right on the oven burner! Always something!

    1. Joy in northern CA

I’m glad I’m not the only one with a kitchen disaster. Day before Thanksgiving, when I was making broccoli casserole, I tossed a stick of butter in a glass measuring cup into the microwave to melt it. Shortly after, I heard a “pop” and discovered that the butter in the measuring cup had overheated I guess and popped up and out of the container covering the entire interior and door of the microwave. It was dripping out when I opened the door. It was only to make buttered bread crumbs. Anyway, cleaned up the mess with probably a half roll of paper towels and some cleaner. Got out another stick of butter and back in the microwave. Guess what? It happened yet again. I’ve done the same a million times and never had that happen, but guess I used a larger cup or something. Anyway, had to clean the entire microwave yet again. Ugh. And all for breadcrumbs. 🙁

Dear Jeanne, I am glad you are doing better.

The stockings look so pretty. I am sure that some dollies will happy to parade them around under their holiday frocks.

Is it really only 8 days until Christmas?

  9. Susette from Southern California

You’ll be happy to hear there are only 35 ships off LA and Long Beach Harbors today, down from 83 last week. So Christmas is on the way, ha,ha. At least some more of the gifts are.

The thigh highs are really cute and are no fingernail busters like the panty hose are. Good for you.
